A little coffee/patisserie on Yonge north of Lawrence. The home made French style croissants and quiche and Italian coffee are amazing. I love the ham and cheese sandwich and they make a sugar donut that is so rich you should skip lunch. I asked for the secret to the recipes and the chef said it was the butter he brings in from France. The chef's wife runs the cash and serves the cozy tables. 5 Stars. Authentic Viennoise pastries in the French tradition. My former go-to place has sadly declined in quality - not unusual in these tough times. Glad I tried this new place to add to my repertoire. The "French doughnut" here did not in any way resemble the usual greasy overglazed cloyingly sweet diabetes bomb. This tasted far less sweet, airy and not at all greasy. The currant pinwheel/danish was extremely well made. Generous lashings of currants and a perfect glazure on the pastry. The piéce de resistance was the TO DIE FOR apple monkey pastry. Strange name for a luxuriously prepared Viennoise but man it was DIVINE. The almond croissant was excellent but was the Cadillac in the sea of Bentleys. Even their café blanc hit the spot. They have quite the assortment of savoury, mini quiche type offerings mostly prepared with Gruyére cheese and different additions. Very rich and looked divine. It's a cozy little place, frequented by the Housewives of Forest Hill and vicinity. I would definitely recommend. My spouse was very impressed too. Counter service was detached/aloof, not overly warm but this does not matter to me. Folks are doing a job at a difficult time. Give this place a try. read more

One customer, does not a business make... That said, one customer can share stories & experiences. Not long ago, my wife (a fairly frequent Patisserie Sebastien customer) stopped in to the patisserie, to say hello to two customers who had been enjoying a coffee and visit at Sebastien. The owner of the patisserie came up and asked if she was ordering something as well, to which the response was no, she was just in to say hello. The abrupt response from the owner... "We are not a community center" Is this the style of customer experience in France? Would like to think the experience in the Yonge & Lawrence was a little more welcoming. Shameful!!! read more

This happened a while back, but still stands out as one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. I had ordered a cappuccino and sat down on a table to drink it. Beside me, I had placed a small, unopened box of pizza from the pizzeria next door. I was going to take it home. A man, who I assume was the proprietor, marched up to me and hissed in a French accent (yes, hissed), "Excuse me. You can't eat that here!" I looked at him and kept drinking my cappucino, shocked at the vitriol and determined to get out of there as soon as possible. This seemed to infuriate him, and he hissed at me once again, "Did you hear me?!!" At no point did I ever touch the pizza box, much less open it. I finished my drink and quietly got the hell out of the cafe. I had intended to buy a box of pastries, but needless to say, I did not. Nor will I ever set foot in the cafe of the hissing proprietor again. read more

I'd you want a baguette go before 10am as they don't make many and once they're gone there gone. The French donuts are so die for!! Croissants are delicious, pain au chocolat too. The owner is French and does an amazing job with all the baking which is done on site so it's always fresh! read more

Friendly service in pleasant surroundings and fairly good food that's fresh and tasty, the only downside for me was that it's a bit pricy with a coffee quiche and a pastry for two coming out to $64. An upscale alternative to Starbucks and a bit of Paris charm. read more

The Almond Croissants ($2.50) at Patisserie Sebastien are quite flaky and have great almond paste filling... Surprisingly not too sweet... good for me but might not be for some!! My visit to Patisserie Sebastien turned my otherwise dull day on its head. I had the ham & cheese sandwich (on a croissant as they were out of baguette at the time) with salad. The salad was a bit plain (just lettuce with one cherry tomato for decoration) but the dressy was light and maybe mustard-y, which tasted great with the sandwich. I could tell the ingredients were fresh and high quality. The cafe is a little pricey...I think about $15 for the croissant, salad and tea, so it's not somewhere I would go regularly, but I'd definitely go back as a treat to try the little desserts and pastries in the display. read more

Sebastien is the sort of local patisserie you wish existed in your neighborhood. The cafe is named after the son of the couple who bake many of the lovely treats you will find in the shop. You will find a real attention to detail with many of the treats on offer and one can see a certain pride in offering a high quality product. Since being introduced to Sebastien this past summer, my go-to items have been the regular and almond croissant which are always fresh and delicious. The specialty pastries including the pistachio eclair are also recommended. Finally, Seb's offers a fine variety of fancy loose leaf tea that go hand in hand with the flaky French pastries! Overall, in a city with more than its fair share of French patisseries, Sebastien's manages to stand out near the very top. read more

Found this place for the first time today at lunch time. We ordered a French onion soup and French toast (weekends only) Both were absolutely delicious! The service was pleasant and efficient. Coffee refilled without having to ask. The place is quite plain with little ambiance but the case full of delicious looking pastries made up for it. They even had my favourite ...tarte tatin (apple upside-down pastry) in the form of an individual tart. They will make larger sizes on two days notice. If you ever want to demonstrate how much of an American asshole you are walk into a Patisserie and order a croissant by actually pronouncing the "R" in croissant. This is what I did. Luckily the nice french man behind the counter was polite enough not to give me the "you're an American and an asshole" look, at least not to my face. Anyhow onto the goodies; the chocolate croissants are sinful, their rich dark coffee is the finest I tried on all of Yonge and the pastries are miniature magnificent works of art. I was sad that this little Patisserie managed to hide from me until my last day in Toronto because I could have spent days sitting at one of the bistro tables, face buried in a newspaper indulging in delight after delight. It's all about the (lack of) service. A friend and I walked in yesterday and sat at the counter. The woman behind the counter (middle aged, seemed like she could be the owner or manager) completely ignored us. She was preparing other orders in front of us, and serving people at the cash. She didn't say "I'll just be a moment", or "I'll be with you shortly", or "please order at the cash", she just ignored us as we waited and chatted. Nothing beats a well done buttery croissant. I was at the street festival at Yonge and Lawrence over the weekend. I saw this place and immediately started craving a croissant. As soon as you walk in you get a whiff of freshly baked goods. For a bakery on Yonge Street, it's got quite a number of tables to sit down at. Right at the register, there's a glass showcase filled with a number of baked goods. I will be back to try them but I came for a croissant so that was my main focus. We ordered 2 croissants and 2 pops. It was a hot day so we wanted something cold to drink. The croissants were very well made. It wasn't the best one, but a very good one nonetheless. Flaky on the outside and buttery soft on the inside. We gave some to our little one and she loved it. If a bakery does a croissant well, it should do the more complicated things well too. I'll come back for sure to see if that holds true for this place as well. The staff were very friendly. There was a lady at the register, and a young waitress to help out. Both were very friendly and helpful. We needed an extra bowl for our little one and some other concessions and they were met with no problem at all. One thing to note for me, we were charged $2 for each pop. I don't know if it's just the Chinese in me, but $2 for a canned pop is too much. I may be too old school and not understand that this may be the standard price now a days. Still, I don't like paying for things I know are not worth it. All in all, this is a nice little bakery to come in and have a nice little treat. I will be back myself to try some other things I had an eye on my first time. read more

They have the best croissants in town. The butter croissant, almond chocolate croissant, chocolate croissant or the donut are amazing! It is a must if you are in the area. We come here a couple of times a month. It's great for us because of the location and the fact they open early. The food is really good and the place is clean. Despite being there regularly, the staff treat us like it's the first time we are there. As a matter of fact, despite this place being a "local" shop, the staff don't seem to make much effort to befriend any of their patrons. The food selection is quite good and prices are reasonable for the area. Arshawn likes the butter croissants here the best and he typically always finishes it. They only have one high chair for the restaurant and if you come a bit later in the day when it's busy you might not get it. In those circumstances I used the stroller since the place is roomy. There is tons of parking on Yonge street or one of the side streets. We typically come here on weekends shortly after they open and have never had an issue with parking. Enjoy! read more

Looks like an innocuous corner bakery but the asian lady at the counter had a french accent and spoke french :-O Croissants were excellent though the chocolate ones have the typical line of chocolate you have w/ authentic french chocolate croissants. Not a huge croissant but at $1.90 before tax that's acceptable. Rich, smooth americano. Bright, colourfully yellow-painted cafe with the dark brown wood flooring and chairs providing a nice counter balance. A step up from the chains. Lots of fresh pastries I haven't tried. Came to Patisserie Sebastien with my friend on a cold December afternoon for a visit. She had passed by it daily on her commute but never had the opportunity to step inside. We opted to share a couple of the sweets - the tarte framboise and another chocolate one with hazelnut (the name of the sweet escapes me). Both were rather delicious, especially the tarte framboise with the custard. We shared these over a café au lait and an orange pekoe tea.
