This place was a finding a diamond in the Rough of Wisconsin. Jarrod and Issac took care of us. The food was not your typical Wisconsin type cheesehead food. it was actually pretty flavorful and good. they had some really interesting craft cocktails there, in fact some place that creates their own. I prefer this over the type of place that tries to convince you that a basic "lemon drop" is bougie. The dark wood here really gives a rustic but upscale wood cabin. Spectacular atmosphere! Food is great too! First time here. I'll have to say I came here for the Jagerschnitzel but pivoted to the Lemon Caper Salmon. I think I made a good choice! The salmon was cooked perfectly and came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The restaurant has indoor, outdoor and balcony seating. Plus a really cool open room with leather chairs for drinking and talking . I can be a bit loud (traffic noise) when the outdoors area is open. But the contemporary mellow rock music covers it up well. So many beer and wine selections to choose from, but tonight I settled for a refreshing iced tea. The service is absolutely horrific! I give honest reviews, and I need to say that the hostess or the manager was truly a very awful person. We sat and waited for more than 40 minutes after our so called reservation. We were never asked if we wanted to sit upstairs or downstairs, but he was going to put us at a high top with two babies. That makes no sense at all! My neighbors were even there and asked for a downstairs table as they were elderly and couldn't get up the high stairs. They had to wait for almost an hour to get it. Unfortunately, we didn't even get to try the food, because the wait took so long. When I mentioned this to the manager, he literally yelled at us on our way out in front of everyone. What a wonderful memory of this place. He was a JERK. The place is adorable, but I would highly suggest to make sure you ask your customers if they want to sit upstairs or downstairs and their preferences before you decide to book a large group. Along with that, if you have people waiting for so long, at least offer them a water or something while they wait. I also heard from my Neighbors that their French toast was hard., the wait was long, and everything was overpriced for what you got. Great service this time around after the menu refresh! Our server was very friendly and prompt despite having a large table upstairs. The charcuterie board was an excellent choice for a light meal while the kids eat their dinner early. The lemon dessert was light and delicate with a good balance of sweet and tart from the berries. Really cute place and friendly servers. Everything was fantastic. I had the Reuben with truffle fries and it was so good! Highly recommend the truffle fries with the garlic aioli. Also, highly recommend the espresso martini, it's one of the best in the state! Ended the night with a blackberry old fashioned which I remembered to take a picture of. I stopped in to try this place while I was in town. I was torn between the wings and the Grilled Kielbasa. My waitress recommended the Grilled Kielbasa and said I would not be disappointed. I could not agree more with her recommendation. I asked for the Grilled Kielbasa to be a little extra grilled and it came out perfect. The mustard sauce, cherry sauerkraut with the pickled and Kielbasa was a great pairing. The atmosphere was great. Not to loud and not to quite either. Plenty room between tables and ample parking. From the hostess, waitress and runner the service was outstanding. Friendly helpful greeting when you walked in, to friendly tentative waitresses and runner that even asked if everything was ok. The environment was amazing! I can see myself coming back here mid summer after work for some apps and drinks. The apps were delicious! The main course was very filling but did lack a bit of flavor. Additionally our waitress was fantastic. The only reason it's not a 5 star is due to the fact that the restroom had a horrible smell that would ruin anyone's appetite. Looking for a elevated eatery, then you've found your spot! The menu boasts several good eats, but I decided on the salmon with the truffle fries for my main course. The salmon was fresh and had a sweeter taste, likely due to the cherry tomatoes it was paired with. The truffle fries were the chef's kiss *muah* I enjoyed a delirium tremens and a Oktoberfest of our waitress' (maigan) choice. Both were delicious and paired well with my entree. Before I went to grub town on my entree i indulged in a charcuterie board- built with some yummy Wisconsin cheeses- would highly recommend this!! The food here has always been meh, but I see they made some menu changes to elevated bar food. The corn fritters are good, but almost anything deep fried is good. The Reuben is worth trying for sure. But the menu says "fresh ahi poke," which is not at all true. You can't say your fish is fresh when it arrives frozen. read more

I wish they had more variety or a couple "normal" dishes so you don't always have to get something extravagant but that is the theme of the place. I've had both good and bad service here. First off this is a beautiful space. The ambiance and setting is very cool. Lots of indoor space and some outdoor space. My friend and I chose to sit at the bar. I will say it seemed like stuff I get at Aldi for my charcuterie, it was good but I was expecting something that I wouldn't normally get. I ordered the mushroom pasta with shrimp. We have been eating at Tine and Cellar probably once a month for the past few years. They do have great cocktails and their truffle fries are great. The food overall is pretty decent. However, we have been very disappointed with a few things our last few visits. We ordered a mocktail of one of their classic cocktails and we were charged the same price of the normal cocktail. As of recently, they are charging an extra 5% for credit cards??? This is absurd... blatantly they are taking this extra percentage and putting it in their pockets. No credit card company charges as much as 5%. Because of this credit card charge, we paid with cash. Then our waitress gives us $16 back in change, when our change should have been $16.59. It is fine if you are not using coins but a business should round up and not down for their customers. Otherwise our service was pretty decent and the staff we have encountered are generally very nice. We will not be returning anytime soon. read more

I mean I got the mac and cheese with the tofu but they forgot the tofu , it was under salted and I've seen better products made in dorm rooms by people blitzed out their minds. I will start out saying drinks and atmosphere is always outstanding. We have always enjoyed the food in the past, but today it was extremely underwhelming. We got the Caesar Wrap and the Tavern Mac and I feel as I could have made it better in my own kitchen. My wrap was falling apart and 90% lettuce. The Mac had absolutely no flavor and was watery. Very disappointing. We will still be back as we overall really enjoy Tine & Cellar. Maybe it was an off day. read more

Great experience at this restaurant. The beer cheese that comes with the pretzel is outstanding. It is rich so a little goes a long way but it is full of flavor, unfortunately the cherry mustard sauce that also came with the pretzel missed the mark for me. Ordered the bbq chicken which came with 3 sides, German potato salad, coleslaw, and some backed beans with a kick, all were very good with the coleslaw being my favorite. Around 1pm we decided to have lunch here and when you come in there is a sign announcing that they have chicken wrap. We sat down and Sonia S. Was our waiter, we asked for the wrap as it is announced on the entrance and Sonia stated that they were not serving the wrap. So we switched to the burger and I asked if it comes with lettuce and tomate and she answer me it comes with exactly what says there! And I asked can I add cheese, lettuce and tomato? And she did not answer me so when I said I did not what to order anything else then she decided to offer that she can added for an extra charge. Which is what I asked from the beginning. When we got served, we noticed a couple next to us that just order the wraps and they got it?? I could say we were being discriminated, as what they got it and we didn't. Let's clear out that this all happen in less that 30 mins. The food was good but we went there for the wraps, the fact that we were treated this way left an uneasy feeling of coming back. Was so excited to experience my 1st time here as it had high reviews but unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. We were seated in a very odd spot basically under the stairs near chair storage. Everytime someone went up or down the steps dust fell onto our table and food. The menu was filthy needed a wipe down. My husband ordered a mango mule (moscow mule) which was their drink special, waiter returned to tell us they were out of the mango mule. Food had great presentation and the flavors were delicious but unfortunately our entrees were cold. My husband odered the fish tacos for $16 it was just 2 small tacos no sides, no chips or fries. The waiter never returned to fill waters, we waited for the check and finally had to flag down another server for our check. It should be noted we were there on a Saturday afternoon at 145pm this was not a busy time of day we were immediately seated no wait so there was no excuse for the poor service. We overheard the table next to us complaining about their food as well and commenting on it being dissapointing compared to previous visits. Unfortunately for us I don't this there will be another visit for that price we can find much better quality. read more

This is hopefully setting a new trend for the Wausau area. New, trendy, and stylish, Tine and Cellar is a great destination for special events like anniversaries and birthdays, and also more routine outings like brunch and dinner. The drink selection is fantastic with several choices that are sure to encourage a more explorative flavor. The food dishes are also unique, with an emphasis on European styles. I appreciate the outdoor seating with fire tables, and there's also large garage door style openings to bring the outside in on warm summer evenings. I've had lamb and spätzle and a sausage entree here, and both were interesting, well plated, flavorful and of appropriate proportion. The entrees are slightly more eclectic, so I wouldn't bring a picky eater to this establishment. On the drink side, I've had both old fashioneds and their signature drinks (there are numerous choices, I almost enjoy drinking here more than eating). There is an interesting cocktail, Cloche but No Cigar, that is served in a vessel filled with tobacco smoke that was very entertaining and delicious. I'm sure you'll find something you like on their extensive cocktail menu. Definitely give this place a try, I always do my best to stop in when I'm in town. read more

I don't really get the decor, it's an odd mix. There are touches that make it look like a church, a couple of stage lights, a little airplane hangar or upscale garage styling, maybe some 70s Swedish architecture, it doesn't make sense to me. It's new, and clean, so maybe it's just me that doesn't get it. The inside is way too loud, the outdoor space was very nice because the weather was just perfect for dining al fresco. The restaurant is right next to a pretty busy avenue, and yet the outdoor seating is still quieter and more peaceful than inside. The fish fry is okay the appetizers very good. The cheese curds are tasty but one order is too much for four people. The seafood cakes are better. Excellent draught beer selection. Service was spot on. I like that they aren't using plastic or styrofoam for leftovers. read more

We were seated upstairs for dinner and with the unique lighting, it gave us a really amazing view of the main level. Tine & Cellar has a wide variety of craft beers on their beer menu, and also a tantalizing signature cocktail menu. The shareables were so tasty! We had dressed truffle fries and blue cheese & pear crostini. They were large enough that just one would have sufficed, but coming from outside the area it was definitely worth it to splurge and try both. The entrees we selected were the flank steak and wild mushroom linguine. They each had wonderful depth of flavor and we ended up splitting them so neither one of us would miss out on all that deliciousness!! Our only gripe was that the hard chairs will leave you wincing after a while. We'll still go back the next chance we get, but maybe I'll sit on my coat next time. ;) read more

Extremely disappointed in the recent menu adjustment, I have consistently gotten the steak meal with a great sauce, beans, and potatoes and now it's 33$ for a small steak and side of small side of truffle fries over a bed of onion frills that's very oily and unappetizing. Very disappointing in seeing a staple meal being downsized and over simplified to accommodate a kitchen staff that no longer seams up to the challenge of a great meal. Long time customer but without an adjustment I'll stick to the Knowlton house for my dinner experience. read more

We yelped to find this place as we are just passing through on a road trip. It started out a bit shaky as we were seated and apparently forgotten about - tables around us were being seated and attended to. A quick talk to the manager and we got a very apologetic waiter who offered free drinks for the issue. Hubby got the Smoked Manhattan and I got the pseudo margarita. Whoa. Amazing. Everything on the menu looked delicious and it was hard to decide. We ended on cheese curds and truffle fries for apps - but they were out of cheese curds!! But you know what? It was fine because the fries were AMAZING AND ENOUGH FOR FOUR PEOPLE (they should say that on the menu!). Those legit might be my new favorite fries ever. Dinner was the fried fish and jagerschnitzel and both were delicious. Our server was great the whole time. We wish we could be regulars here! read more

Decor is nice, but it seems to be trying a little too hard for a modern approach in a city like Wausau. I have to begin saying service was excellent from beginning to end. I have ZERO bad things to say about our waiter because they were phenomenal- very attentive but not intruding. However, the food was such a disappointment I'm giving them a 1 in regards for the price of what you taste. We ordered the following: Porter mussels: the best dish we ordered. Creamy sauce, accompanied with perfectly toasted toast Truffle fries: they came out room temperature, aioli seemed heavy Roasted Brussels sprouts: not as crispy as I expected, some bites were saltier than others, just average for me Gorgonzola pear flatbread: definitely sweeter than I expected especially being paired with Gorgonzola and onions, needed some balance Kashubian toast: not a fan of pickled things so I stayed away from this And the most disappointing.... Bavette Steak: I felt like they made the cream the star of this dish when really it should've been the cut of meat. Having it sit in the cream made it chewier (and yes I am a fan of medium cooked meats) and less juicer. Pan roasted trout: whatever they stuffed it with was awful! The trout itself was bland.... and they definitely didn't serve it on a purée. It was served on cubed squash. To me, this is an extreme disappointment and a waste of money. read more

Once again, the best meal!!! I had the fish cake salad. The cakes were the perfect topping to a light and fresh dark green salad. Dressed very lightly and served with a slice of toasted multigrain type bread. What I love is the open air option with the window/doors up. It is refreshing to have no mask required option and on their door list places to go that are more covid masked places. They respect people's choices. read more

It is an awesome atmosphere!!! We went with friends who frequent the place and said they love it. We were told 25 min wait but ended up waiting an hour. However, it was busy and we had a seat at the bar so...no problem there. Their drink selection is phenomenal and one of their bartenders was a flair bartender, so it was very easy to wait. We got seated and placed our orders. Again, with drinks and great conversation, it was easy to wait. However, after about 30 mins, we started to notice that people around us who were seated well after we were began getting their main meals, we began to wonder what happened to ours. We hadn't seen our waitress for almost 30 additional minutes until she had our food. It was a total of about 55 additional minutes since our order had been placed that we got our food. It was room temp to colder. I had asked our waitress what had happened to our order and she had said that 2 large parties (16+ people) had come in and at that point, a few of the cook staff had to leave involuntary. That created a large backup and something happened to our order in the shuffle. She apologized a lot and was open an honest with us. Due to the concerns of pandemic, we chose to sit outside on a hot day. Outdoor seatings have no shade so it would be really sizzling if it's sunny out. Anyway... The food was amazing. I had the Zakuski Board which consisted of a small jar of fish roe, generous amount of cold-smoked salmon, lots of whitefish dip, dressed herring and various house-pickled vegetables. That was my lunch. All mine! My husband had the Jäger Schnitzel with mashed potatoes and topped with mushroom cream sauce. He claimed that it was the best schnitzel he has had. The sauce was amazing! Their drink menu was also impressive, with a variety of beers, wine, cocktails and spirits. You can sample their draft before ordering your own pint! We don't live nearby but definitely will make stops every time when we pass through in the future! Maybe... Just maybe, there will be shaded outside seatings in the near future?!
