We came for the Mardi Gras theme party on Tuesday. This is my first time coming here as I always pass this building on my drive. Their parking lot was packed. I didn't want to park in the back as I believe there are homes behind the building. Upon entering, there is a large bar in the center of the restaurant. We were seated rather quickly and we had a lovely waitress who was running around all over the place. I wasn't sure if she was the only waitress working that night but she was great! They had a themed menu and I selected the jambalaya. My table ordered the fat burger with the glazed donut as the bun, the fettuccine and they made a special vegetarian meal for our friend that was not on the mebu. Honestly, that was really super nice and they made sure she was happy with it. Music was great. The band was very good and lively. Was so confused when driving through subdivision New Jersey to get to this restaurant. Obviously a well loved building converted to a restaurant and bar. The wine and beer list was extensive. The amount of vegetarian options were good and the vegetarian chili nachos were very delicious. read more

Vegetable wrap is delicious; so are the roast potatoes. I love the pesto sauce and balsamic glaze in the wrap. I'll definitely order this again. I miss the date/ walnut spread and humus they used to offer as a vegetarian spread trio. I hope they bring that dish back! We heard Karen Payne sing last night and she has such a lovely voice. I can't comment on the food because I didn't have any. went there last night to see a band. the place was so cold that most people kept their coats on. No heat in an establishment when it's 20 outside doesn't make for a good time. Let's move on to the bartender. We sat at the bar with a group of people and she never came by to ask if we wanted another drink. Often I would place my empty glass towards her and she never came over to ask if we wanted another. sorry but having to wait 15 minutes for another drink should never happen. One of the costumers suggested to reach over the bar and grab a beer myself. We all laughed at that. I would have gotten it quicker doing it myself. Mind I tell you, the place WASN'T crowded. Stopped here as we were looking for someplace to eat. We were the only patrons at first. Bartender/waitress was very nice and pleasant. We had the appetizer trio and order the Korean meatballs, mushroom croquets, coconut shrimp. Really can't go wrong with the shrimp, not much of a sauce on it though. The mushroom croquets were different, they were ok and the Korean meatballs were good. I don't like the texture of meatballs that are made by others so for me, it was a no go but I did try them and the flavor was good. Since we had the trio we just ordered a pie with mushrooms and chicken. I'm not a huge fan of pizza but I really did like this one. The sauce is crushed tomatoes and not overly saucey. The chicken was seasoned well. It was very quiet since we were the only ones in the place at first. A few couples came in after us. Also you get 25% off everything during happy hour. This is a pretty good place. We went here a few times a while ago and have been back now twice. The menu is not very big but the food is good. Portions are big and the service is very good. This is a modern day cheers, we went for the band but were pleasantly surprised how nice the regular patrons treated us.

Our hiking group arrived right off the trail. Only a mile from 78 but seems like the middle of corn fields. The muscular bikes, hot cars and 6'6" host/server Andy made me wonder, but he quickly ushered us to the bar for a blackboard full of locals quenching our trail thirst while he pushed tables together in the prime window seating. We shared the unique, delicious Korean meatballs then I had the cooked-to-order medium burger with my requested but surprisingly-mounded veggies. The Joplin-like fronted band's lead shredded plus a surprise-for-rockers Ovation. Thank you for making a memory we'll retell. read more

We really wanted to have a great meal here, we used to love the old place. We stopped in for lunch and had chicken sandwiches that were very good. They were golden brown and quality chicken. We went for dinner and were surprised that the menu was very limited. There were a couple beef dishes, burgers, salads and the chicken sandwich. We didn't want beef, so we ordered the chicken sandwiches and they were very bad. They had very little juice they were overbooked, burnt. Hard alcohol drinks are expensive, well brands, $12.00 each. The beer was good and those prices were very reasonable $5.00 to $7.00. We probably won't go back. read more

For the appetizer we ordered the Wings (Bourbon and Buffalo) which were good. Got a Blue Moon to wash it down with. Then for the entree I got the Amish Chicken which came with potatoes and Napa Cabbage on the side. The next day I was hurting because I got Montezuma's Revenge. Since I did not eat anything else all day, I can only suspect that it came from either a dirty beer line, or the food. Now I know why ONLY BURGERS were coming out of the kitchen. The Pattenburg House is a restaurant and bar that serves decent style bar meals such as Appetizers such as Fried Green Beans, Hand Cut Fries, wings, Funnel Cake Fries, Quesadillas, Burgers,Salads Cheesesteaks, Sandwiches, and Steaks. My favorite two sandwiches are the Chicken Salad with cran raisins and almonds.My other favorite sandwich is the Crispy Chicken Sandwich. I've eaten their burgers and sweet potato fries which I throughly enjoyed. The crispy fried green beans is definitely worth trying. Pattenburg House has a Late Night menu Monday-Saturday 10p and Sunday's 9p. They have a good assortment of beers on tap, some craft that change weekly. Happy Hour- is Monday-Thursday 3-7p and Friday's 3-6p. The staff is extremely friendly,especially the ladies who are bartending. I got the feeling that they love working here, and it shows. A good number of the Pattenburg's clientele all know each other and it seems like one big happy family. People come from everywhere to listen to live bands. The Pattenburg has live bands every weekend and on Sunday afternoon. One of the new owners Joe P is a musician himself and does a wonderful job getting really good bands to play here, and they have a wonderful sound system. His wife Marti does a great job making sure the kitchen runs smoothly This establishment is an institution. It originally was a tavern and an inn dating back to 1872. This place is very low keyed and laid back. They have an outdoor patio with seating. The Pattenburg House has some parking. They gave bar seating and all around are tables and a pool table. I am so glad my friend brought me here. It's my new favorite place when I'm in the area. read more

A nice fall afternoon listening to great live music and eating an amazing pork roll sandwich with what would be called double meat anywhere else and drinking dirty martinis and Bloody Marys. What a great little find! I cannot complain about anything. Well... except nothing but domestic beer on tap. Really want a local beer but I'll find that else where. I'm new to the area and drove just down the road to find this bar. Right there on the side of the road. Walked in and was greeted right away by the bar tender even though they were pretty busy. Live band (who was fantastic btw) playing and got a beer right away. Really glad I came out at this point. Got a menu and ordered as I usually do with enough to come home with for another meal. I'm from the south but still ordered fried pickles. Who doesn't eat fried pickles with a cold beer?! Was not expecting them to be good but they were. A large basket of them came out to the table with this sauce that is not the typical ranch, it was way better. No idea what was in it but wish I could bring a bottle home of that stuff. Then the burger. Cooked perfectly medium with a glob (and I mean glob) of mayo lettuce, tomato, onions, bacon and cheese and a salad which... my inner (and outer) fat self would've loved fries but I figured fried pickles was enough. The salad was tiny but ok. The burger...Oh my! Delicious. The staff was fantastic and took EXCELLENT care of me treating me well. I will come back for sure. read more

Saturday 1/28/23: Came to see my friend's band at around 8pm. Absolutely the craziest parking set up. Every possible nook and cranny was taken. Behind the restaurant/bar are small rental type properties with renters/owners with signs saying that parking in front of those properties is only for house guests. There is also no parking on the street in front, and no parking across the street (the building across the street is a fire house). I drove 4 or 5 times around the restaurant/bar, and waited as well, hoping someone would leave. Noone did. After 15 to 20 minutes, decided to go somewhere else to get a quick bite and come back 30 minutes later. Came back 20 minutes later, and still no parking spaces. At least 2 or 3 other cars were trying to find spaces too. Did a couple more drives around the restaurant/bar... Finally gave up and left. Disappointed that I drive to see my friend's band and couldn't see them. Don't have any advice to anyone else regarding the above either. I guess: on a Saturday night, go 2 hours earlier than the band is supposed to play? Who knows.. Never coming here again, that's for sure. I'll wait to see his band somewhere else. read more

First time here since ownership changed several months ago. Let's go: my utensils were caked with old food grime and clearly not clean. Bartender did not acknowledge or apologize. Meal arrives: zero salt/pepper/ketchup - you know the usual condiments not provided - took 20 minutes into meal to get (regulars get best service apparently), Dozen Wings arrived with zero blue cheese and 2 pieces of dried out celery. Personally, I think the new white wash atmosphere sucks - looks like a cheap chain restaurant style - painted over or covered old wood tavern trim and brick. Sad. Overall, food was slightly above average..worst was unforgivable dirtiness and poor service. One of the worst experiences at Pattenburg for me in 25 years of being a patron - and there were some rough restaurant ownership times along the way.. read more

I first went to the Pattenburg House about a year ago and it was fabulous. Had the Jersey Burger. Yesterday afternoon went there about noon. Ordered the fish and chips and both were completely overcooked especially the fries. The fish i could still eat made palatable with their homemade unremarkable tartar sauce. I really wanted to be happy but no. I think what happened is that both the chef and the only bartender at a full bar was overwhelmed. Such a shame. Never going back. It is hit or miss. read more

Sort of in the middle of no where is this dumpy biker bar - seriously - from the inside this place looks like a shitty dive bar. However, they have this great outdoor patio (of which my dog was welcome to enjoy a beer as well). Probably the most shocking is how good the food is. Twice now I've had these warm soft perfectly salted pretzel appetizer with cheese. I'm not sure I could even go here without ordering it because it was so good. I also got a steak sandwich here as well as was very pleasantly satisfied. People were also pretty cool - met some nice biker guys who were a ton of fun and the Staff was always super nice too. My recommendation is to definitely walk in and try this place but keep walking to the outside area! read more

I used the $20 voucher for $10 and I ordered the south of the border cheesesteak and 2 glasses of beer, the Samuel Adams Red Cherry and Guinness Beer mix, all very good. Our first visit to the Pattenburg House; we stopped in to see Caren Kennedy and Rob Viola perform (AKA "Leather and Lace"); what a fun afternoon it was. Pattenburg House is a comfortable local spot where everybody knows your name (unless you are from out of town). We sat at the bar and were well attended two by the bartender and server in our area. Food was good; my Cheese Steaks in particular was very tasty. The band and the crowd; there to appreciate the band; made the visit very worth while. Props to Pattenburg House for having local artists perform regularly; Props to Caren and Rob for providing a memorable event. read more

UPDATE: 12Dec2015 All the below applies. Server was excellent until I presented an expired Yelp deal, which was originally for $40 but retained its original $20 purchase value. She and the manager refused to honor it, telling me to contact Yelp for a refund. This was contrary to the terms that are clearly stated in the deal (that the deal's original value shall be in effect). No discussion, that was it. After that, her demeanor changed. With family in tow, and it being Saturday night, I opted not to argue. Minus a star until this is resolved; Yelp's been contacted. --------- We trekked here to see a friend's daughter (Alexa Britt) perform on a snowy, nasty night, having never been to the Pattenburg House before. We arrived early, thanks to Symmetrical AWD™ and getting out of the house on time, and were able to have a light dinner and a couple of drinks. FOOD Typical pub fare, with a focus on sandwiches and other finger food. Quality and value were decent, with sandwiches for just under $10 and other fare for slightly more. SERVICE This establishment is in a quasi-rural part of NJ (yes, NJ is not like completely like the opening scenes from The Sopranos), and the staff were accordingly warm and friendly in a "Hey! How ya doin'? Have a seat!" sorta way. AMBIANCE Half the place has a black, fabric ceiling of sorts, to accommodate the performance area (which is a small corner). The other half is more open, with pool tables. This is definitely a jeans place, not that a suit and tie wouldn't be welcomed, but definitely very casual. On this night the crowd ranged from 21 (huge "bouncer" at the door to protect the site's license) to 50+. I must say the sound level is MUCH higher than it needs to be; my ears were ringing by night's end. SUMMARY If I found myself in the area again or there was an act I really liked, I would surely return, but I wouldn't make the half-hour trip for a beer and a burger; this is definitely a place that caters to its geographic area, and that's just fine. read more

After ordering 2 iced teas (non-alcoholic) and asking for menus I was asked for a credit card to start a tab. I told the person we were having diner but she insisted she needed a credit card in advance. I was puzzled but handed her my cc. She appeared to enter data from it into the register/computer but failed to return my card. I flagged her down and asked 'where is my credit card'? On file was her response, to which I responded 'Oh hell no'. I paid for the 2 teas with cash and we left. I don't know what credit card scam this is but I'm not having any part of it. Been going to WWII weekend for a few years and usually stop at Clinton Station Diner on our return, out of convenience, not because of anything special about the food. Decided to see if we could find something else and stumbled upon this place. There were 3 other foodies in my party and we all agreed this place was a keeper. The food is pretty simple fare a few seafood entrees, steak, burgers and other Americana fare. All our meals were served perfectly and delicious. Will definitely return. read more

Great location since the 70s for live music on the weekends, I haven't seen a weak band yet! The menu has something for everyone, vegetarian to meat lovers. Very good craft beer selection on tap and in the bottle. Very nice wine selection also. New ownership has brought the venue up a notch starting last October, usually no cover! read more

My wife and I had a good meal and a nice time. The waitress was extremely pleasant and spent some time speaking with us, she was nice. They have a lot of live music which is really cool. Just make sure you go to dinner on the early side so you can finish eating before the musicians start to play (this is a good thing). It's pretty cool to have such a place in our neighborhood. I can get something good to eat and then hang out to listen to some live music. I honestly can't find much of that in Hunterdon County I'm grateful to have it so close to home. read more

New ownership. Same unattractive facade, located amidst a run down trailer park. After an afternoon up the street at Ironbound Farm we figured we would give this place a shot for dinner. We had always enjoyed the ramshackle appearance inside, and the raucous R&B, blues, and jam bands that seem to go with an old roadhouse. Well, this place has been cleaned up inside. A lot. The stage is adorned with tropical plants, crates of records and drum set. We almost expected to see James Taylor sitting there playing his hits. Although there was no live music while we were there, I have a feeling the rocking juke joint days are gone. Onto the menu. $$$ There are a couple of pub/bar faves, but they seem to be leaning towards a fancier dining experience. For example, my wife had the mushroom croquette (!) appetizer, while I had baked wings, which I found to be borderline undercooked. We both ordered the almost $15 burger as our main. Mine medium rare, hers medium well. They both came out medium, and were nothing special. They had some higher end items (steak, salmon, fancy chicken, Korean meatball) but we weren't about to cross the $24 threshold. They had limited beers on tap, and the mixed drinks we had were a little on the pricey side. Table service was slow, but almost to be expected as they have only been open for 2 weeks. I'm sure we'll be back around Thanksgiving, and hopefully all the bugs will be worked out. It would also be nice to see a reasonably priced bar menu option for those of us that like a more casual dining experience, but we shall see. read more

Odd place. Odd people. Odd scene. There's a dingy trailer park in the back with dirt roads where you can park if there isn't parking up front. (smokers sit/lean on cars out front, so be warned) When they have live music, it is local "musicians" and they turn up the volume way too loud for the small space that they have.
