I would be careful before going forward with an item with Patterson's. My fiancé and I went in to get a wedding band, we wanted it in platinum and were told we would have to go the custom route. In doing so they gave us a verbal estimate of how much it would cost so we could give them $150 to do a drawing and get a more accurate estimate. Before I was willing to go forward and risk my $150 they assured me it would be close to that estimate. Industry standard is a 10% change on verbal estimates. I gave them my $150 and they came back with a quote 50% higher than the number they convinced me into giving them $150. I was wanting to go through Patterson's but they gave me no good explanation on why they would go up 50% of the original estimate. They said there is nothing they could do and I would have to pay the 50% increase or loose out on that $150. This shop was very deceitful and I no longer trust them. Be cautious! read more

I live in Chicago but love going back to Mankato to get my jewelry - whether it's buying, cleaning, or fixing, Patterson does a great job. Everyone that works there is so friendly and helpful. We bought my husband's wedding ring from here (custom created off a ring in the store), sized my wedding band, and also got some great birthday and Christmas presents from here. Throughout the entire process, we had great communication with the staff about what we were looking for and we had all of our questions answered promptly and respectfully. I would not even give Patterson's one star. My fiancé purchased my engagement ring/band at Patterson's but not the diamonds as they do NOT have GIA rated diamonds, meaning that the color and clarity (which you spend those big bucks for) cannot be guaranteed. We later returned to have a custom wedding band made to match. I worked with Abby and the customer service I received was horrible! She gave me one design which I did not like and told me that this was the only ring I could possibly get. She sent me an image and stated she would touch base after she returned from vacation. Almost two months later and no word from Abby, I came up with my own design. She then gave me several other options (funny how initially there was only one design that would work) which I quickly informed her was not what I was looking for. I told her to continue with my design but make a couple of adjustments. I had also asked her to size a couple of rings for me (ie. spending more money there). I was asked for money and I stated that was perfectly understandable but laid out issues we were having with the customer service. Abby became quite defensive and rude! She outright told us to look elsewhere. I called a few hours later to follow up with Kevin Patterson, the owner, on the phone and was stunned by the response I received! Before I could even speak, Kevin stated that I was impossible to please and told us to look elsewhere! I informed him that I did like the ring that I designed and wanted to continue with that. He stated that I received excellent service because I had been sent numerous images (that I did not request nor want). He stated that waiting nearly two months to return an email was "probably not good customer service." He was defensive, rude and did not once apologize. Avoid going to this place. Plenty of other jewelry stores in Mankato. Bought my wife's engagement ring and wedding band here. Thought I had a good deal and the service was great. I was pretty pleased. My wife was very happy with the engagement ring, but noticed that the wedding band had some minor flaws (diamonds in the band not being evenly spaced, some touching, others with gaps). Went in to see what they thought and that is where things went wrong. After discussing the issue with the salesperson whom I had bought the rings and a gentleman who did not even introduce himself and was very defensive from the beginning we decided that we would leave the rings with them and they would take a look and possibly re-work/make the wedding band. We had the rings soldered together previously so had to leave both rings with them. Got a call later that day saying we can come get the engagement ring since they had removed the wedding band and my wife could wear that until the band was finished. Walk in, and the man, whom I believe to be the co-owner named Kevin Patterson, just handed me a check back for the wedding band, said he couldn't meet my wife's expectations. Then proceeded to get angry with my wife, who was shocked and stunned by this move and his attitude. After some poor word choices on his part to my wife, we took the check and left and will be happy to never return and to recommend to everyone searching for a jewelry store in the Mankato to avoid this place. They also have a store in New Ulm, which I would also avoid. Needless to say we are very upset that this individual took away the ring I placed on my wife's finger at our wedding.
