What an absolutely fantastic coffee shop! My BF and I were passing through town looking for a hot breakfast on a Monday. After looking on yelp for recommendations, we decided to cruise through the neighborhood and check out a different place (which also happened to be closed). After talking to a local nearby, they recommended this place so we decided to give it a shot and boy am I glad we did! One hot coffee, and two breakfast sandwiches later, we were so very satisfied with our choice and the location. Quaint, nestled in the middle of a neighborhood, it seems like this is the place that locals go. The service was friendly, accurate, and fast. The coffee was phenomenal. The food was delicious. Honestly, if I was passing through town again, I would put this on my list as a stop. We didn't try any of the pastries, but they all looked delightful! Big fan of the owners, and I stop in the Tioga location pretty regularly. Finally had a chance to make it back to the Haile location, and it was pretty disappointing. I only asked for two things. 1. My daughter wanted chocolate vanilla swirl ice cream. I knew it wasn't soft serve. Also, she's 7 so she really only needs one scoop of ice cream (they're pretty big scoops). I asked if they could do a half scoop of vanilla and a half scoop of chocolate. I was told, "absolutely, no problem." 2. I wanted a bagel with cream cheese. She asked if I wanted it toasted, and I said yes, and asked if they could just put cream cheese on it after toasting it. Again, I was told, "Absolutely, no problem, we can do that." We go to the only empty table (the downstairs one) and it was dirty. So I went and got napkins and wiped it down. Then I hear my name called and it's a different person than took my order, and she hands me a bag (my bagel) and then tells me that she's not allowed to serve half scoops. "Really?" I ask. "yeah, not allowed." No further explanation. I'm with my sick daughter, so I opt not to take things further and just say, "Well I guess just chocolate then." Then I sit down to unwrap my bagel. As you may have guessed, no cream cheese on it. Just a packet tossed into the bag. The second was possibly just an oversight, sure, but definitely not good service. The first is nonsensical. Like, how can you not serve half-scoops of ice cream? At least try to help me out to get ice cream for my daughter. "Well, what I can do is just give you a scoop of each in different cups, and then you can mix it how you want." "Well, it's for inventory purposes, so you'd have to pay for two scoops, and then we'll mix half of them together." There's a lot of ways to handle the situation better than it was, and also, with a better attitude than it was. It was clear that the girl who gave me the bagel and made the ice cream, didn't have a single thought of "So sorry about that" or anything. I live in walking distance of this place and I try to support local businesses... but man it's rough to want to go back. I typically order either just a coffee or milkshake(nothing fancy just regular on both), yet somehow the people behind me who order food and drinks often get their orders before I do. I kinda have to sit there like an idiot and hope the older lady sees me because everyone who works there under the age 30 does not care. - Example 1 -- about a month and a half ago I had to sit for 30 minutes to get a single cup of coffee and watched a group order get taken care of before me, despite the fact I was in line first. - example 2 -- about 3 weeks ago they straight up let the person behind me skip to put in their order, then they messed up my order after making me wait 20 minutes for a regular coffee. - Ex3 -- about a week ago I got in there and, par for the course by now, I order a milkshake and watch as they make the person behind me their milkshake first.... Then I wait for nothing to happen for about 15 minutes before giving the people behind the counter the 'please help' look and finally the older lady got my order again and made it in less than 4 minutes on the spot. I wasn't gonna write a review and kept just saying 'they are busy' or 'accidents happen' but on the third time I decided to write this and go get cheaper better tasting food at CFA. Just don't go here unless you're in a group, they don't care about small solo orders. All I had was an Espresso with whip cream, the espresso machine did most of the work. The espresso shot was ok. The roasted bean flavor reminded me of Nescafe; maybe it was burnt. Cons: subpar coffee to say the least, get your drinks wrong if it's busy, they didn't remake my drink (a $5+ latte) when they messed up the milk, syrup, and the hot option, lots of kids running around (okay this can't be helped, but just bring headphone!) and finally, the workers COMPLAIN so loudly. I usually have my headphones in, but freaking a man! I'm just trying to study and that's negative enough! Pros: open late(r), they have outdoor seating, that pumpkin muffin is to die for, it's a pretty area, prices ain't bad and it's such a great change of scenery for a student that goes to UF. Honestly, I understand issues happen, coffees are made wrong. But from someone who worked in service.... Not refunding a drink that is 1) expensive for the company, 2) relatively cheap for cafe to make, 3) QUICK to make, is a pretty crappy business model. I believe this place has a loyal customer base for good reason... but mostly families. I obviously don't get treated as well as others per the example of wrong drink no refund, but also, the employees don't address customers coming in, leaving, and they're passionless. Again, I get it, there are bad days. Which is why I've gone twice a week before writing this review. Try it out if you just want that muffin or a place to study after 5. I agree with Meena M.'s review because she pretty much covers all I have to say about this place: Friendly [but slow - my experience] service, great coffee, competitively priced, plenty of seating inside and out with nice decor. I recommend their donuts with their Pura Bean coffee. They have a nice selection of pastries if you go early enough and ice cream for the kiddos. The chocolate sprinkles donut and the cheese danish donut were pretty tasty and not too sweet. I spent about $20 here just for two coffees and two donuts so definitely on the pricier side. FYI. Overall, I'm sure the neighborhood loves having this option. They also offer breakfast and lunch menu items. It is an espresso with steam milk and possibly (didn't confirm) a hint of caramelized brown sugar which made it a delicious beverage on a rainy day. We love Patticakes--so much so that we drive from the other side of town to come here on the weekends. We usually order a triple Cafe con Leche each, and its always that perfect Saturday morning pickup, exactly what you need to wander around the Haile Village Farmer's Market in the early morning. It's also a great place to just relax in. They have WiFi, so you can study or work or browse the internet here. They've also got plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. Oh, and the purposeful placement of plants at Patticakes creates a wonderful, relaxed atmosphere. If you're still not convinced, you should know this place nearly always has a line. It moves quick, and it's worth it to wait to support this great local business. They just scooped chocolate ice cream and added milk then charged me over $4 for it. While walking around the farmer's market in Haile Plantation, my friend and I decided to get some delicious muffins (blueberry banana, smores, etc) from Gourmet Muffin and needed coffee on the side. What better place to get coffee than Patticakes! So we walked about 3 minutes or so and passed by to get a drink. Service was great! Staff were friendly and asked where we got our muffins ahaha. I got a iced latte and I think my friend got their iced london fog. We both got it iced because it was humid and terribly hot outside! We sat inside near the window and chilled. However, around 10am, it got pretty busy and crowded so we decided to leave. The interior of Patticakes is so cute as well and I believe it is a great place to sit down and study. This place is so quaint and cute! I've been here to study and meet with friends from church. The staff is sweet. I haven't tried the coffee but I absolutely love their tea. They even made me a latte out of matcha instead of coffee and it was excellent. My friends say they think the coffee tastes good too. The bakery goods are yummy as well and they have interesting healthy recipes. If I'm there longer than I intended, I get myself one of their "fog" drinks. Love visiting Patticakes on the weekends to study! They have plenty of seating and the surrounding area is very scenic. My favorite things to get are their lattes (complete with coffee art if you get it hot) and their cinnamon toast crunch ice cream. Menu items are reasonably priced and the coffee is always made very well. When I get coffee at other places, an issue I often run into is that they make it different every time. But at Patticakes, my orders are always consistent in quality. The atmosphere is also pretty quiet with everyone doing work there, so it's a great place to focus and get things done. I would definitely frequent Patticakes more often if it weren't as far out of the way. read more

This is my new favorite study spot! I came with my friend to study for our final and can't believe I haven't been here sooner. The coffee is excellent. I usually don't like buying coffee because it's cheaper to make it at home myself; but the lattes here are excellent. They even do cute latte art if you ask for it in a cup for here! I also tried their red velvet cupcakes and bacon quiche. Both were top quality and delicious! I'll be coming here once a week now to get some studying done and treat myself. They have a decent amount of seating, plenty of outlets and free WiFi. A bit pricey, but if you are looking for cheap cupcakes what are you doing in Haile Village? But I have mixed feelings about this shop. The cheerful millennials working behind the counter -- bless their sweet hearts -- they don't know how to make change. If you are paying with cash, and especially if you expect change, be ready for a puzzled face and a handful of the wrong coins. And frankly the regular coffee just doesn't taste good. Sorry. I've tried it lots of times and it's always a little bit weak and not particularly high quality. And there is always a slight off-flavor in my coffee here. Maybe they aren't cleaning out the coffee pot. I think it's the creamer. Maybe the creamer is a little bit sour. Are they keeping it in the fridge? Is it old? Maybe they aren't washing out the container between refills. That bad flavor is always there. Of course most of the people who come into the store seem to order very complicated espresso drinks, not regular coffee, and they pay with a swipe of a card. I wasn't feeling coffee today (although my friend's chocolate turtle latte tasted amazing), so I got a mango smoothie. They offered several types of bagels, quiches, and scones. When I lived in Gainesville, this was my home. I literally came here every week to study or relax. Nestled in the quaint community of Haile Plantation, Patticakes is a welcoming shop dedicated to making it's customers happy. They have a wide variety of coffee, tea, cupcakes, ice creams, and snacks. Walking in, you feel completely at ease and relaxed. In the front room where everything is sold, there's a tv where people can relax and have chat with the baristas. In the back room, a sofa sits where groups can congregate and hang out, surrounded by smaller tables. This room was perfect for studying. Patticakes is definitely the shop I miss the most since moving away and I highly recommend this shop to anyone and everyone. read more

Patticakes in the Haile Village center is a great local place for coffee and pastries! The surrounding area is quaint and very nice for a scenic walk. Last time i went I ordered their bacon quiche and also spiced matcha. Both were phenomenal and unique. The bacon quiche was fluffy and not too dense like many other dry quiches I have had in the past. I couldn't have been more please with their spiced matcha, the barista kindly added two teaspoons of honey to make it perfect. I love going here to study. They have a great atmosphere set up for people to come and enjoy their delicious treats. It's a two room store. One room is set up as the bakery/brewery. There are table where you can eat and enjoy your baked goods while listening to their pandora station. The other room has couches where you can relax and play games with friends or catch up with a co-worker. There are also tables set up next to plugs where you can plug in your laptop or phones. The best part is you don't have to pay for the wifi connection like you do at Starbucks. It's free! My first time in Haile Village, I stopped here for an evening snack. They had a breakfast sandwich on the menu -- eggs, cheese, and bacon on an English muffin -- and being a vegetarian, I asked to have the bacon left off the sandwich. To my surprise, spinach could be substituted for the bacon, an offer that I accepted without hesitation (spinach on a sandwich with other rich, flavorful ingredients is basically tasteless; adding it is a way to increase the healthiness of the meal without sacrificing taste). The sandwich was reasonably priced, about $5, and ready in only a few minutes. It was hot, tasty, and something I'd definitely order again. The dining area was comfortable, and a water cooler by the counter allowed me to refill my glass at will (it was nice not to repeatedly have to ask a server for more water, a tiresome routine at most restaurants). Employees were friendly, the bathroom was clean, and I really can't think of anything to complain about. I was there in the early evening, just before sunset, and there was no line at the counter or lack of seating in the dining area. I would recommend this cafe to anyone, and will visit again next time I find myself in the Village. read more
