I constantly crave this place. This is one of my top restaurants in Gainesville, and I take all of my friends here at any given chance just to eat their empanadas. They're truly the best I've ever had, and the wait for them, no matter how long it takes, is always worth it. My friends have tried their arepas as well, and I can say without a doubt this restaurant is incapable of making bad food. The front of house worker/(not sure if he's the owner but maybe owner) is an incredibly kind and sociable man. He always greets me warmly anytime he sees me, and it's always such a pleasure to interact with him. There's plenty of tables to sit, and an easy and approachable order-counter. If you're going (which you should be), I highly recommend the ground beef empanada with their garlic aioli sauce and spicy chili paste. I've never had any of their desserts, but they look amazing too! Love this place. So much. If you're going, please get me an empanada. 10/10, top tier in Gainesville. read more

I liked this place. It was not busy when I was there and got to talk to one of the owners. I was impressed with personal dedication and involvement. They make food from their homeland which is made using family recipes. But I was there to try their ice cream since it used to be an ice cream place. I also wanted to try their crepes. So the obvious choice is an ice cream crepe with banana, strawberry, and a ton of ice cream. It was cooked fresh in front of me (thankfully not one of those cook ahead and reheat places) The crepe was enjoyable but average and a little too crispy. The ice cream was disappointing, average ice cream regional supplier, definitely not home made. I may go back and give the crepes one more try, ice cream nope. I actually gave them a second chance since I had already been there before but when it was just called La Maracucha and they didn't have half the things they offered. I got the Hot Chocolate and the rolled ice cream I choose Matcha Green Tea with Kit Kat and whipped cream. My friend ordered Crepes with cookie (something) and strawberries. My Hot Chocolate was really good although it may taste a bit unsweetened, but you'll need to stir it up every few minutes and it will be good. The Rolled ice cream was delicious and it kept well together. Overall, it was really good and would visit again when I return. Located in the heart of Gainesville, Fl, we parked on the street beside the shop. It was busy, which is always a good thing! I was cold, so I ordered a cappuccino with whipped cream with soy milk and light sugar. It was nice that he asked me about the sugar! Rock n Roll is a small and cute place to have some rolled ice cream and some delicious crepe. Their customer service is absolutely welcoming. We ordered build your own crepe and guess what i ordered. The classic Nutella with strawberries and bananas. And ofcourse some chocolate chip toppings and whipped cream on the side. He was reallllyy generous with the chocolate chip toppings i will tell you that...hahah...not complaining. The only thing i was disappointed was the wooden forks and knives mannn...I couldn't really enjoy my food coz i broke my fork. I highly recommend bring your own forks/knives lol. Besides the wooden forks, this place is amazing for a quick snack. Also it's open till midnight every single dayy!! This was the first ice cream place i've tried since moving to gainesville and overall not a bad experience at all. The walk is about 10-ish minutes from campus, although it can be sketchy at parts. For $5 you get 5 mini ice cream rolls in a cup with 1 mix in and 2 toppings, so not a bad deal on the price aspect. I will definitely say, they are most certainly stingy with the toppings and mixers. You can see them make it in front of you and roll it, and for the mix in they used literally 1 average sized Oreo. I also got a topping of almonds which was fine but for strawberry they also give you quite literally 1 strawberry chopped lengthwise. I do recommend the taro ice cream, as it was very good as far as taro goes (especially for what i expect in a college town). They also have a variety of other flavors, crepes. milkshakes, and chia pudding. Only true complaint is the topping situation but overall, not the worst for the price relative to its proximity to campus. All who know me , know I am not a desert person. With that said, friends talked me into going out for Rock n Roll after dinner. I tried to get out of it but am happy I wasn't able to. My Ice cream roll was absolutely delicious. I had the chocolate roll with peanut butter cups and Oreos. I had never had a ice cream roll before and honestly had no idea what the guy was making, but he seemed nice enough and like he had done this before. The process was odd looking and until he was done I thought what the heck are they doing to my ice cream! They put chocolate drizzle and chocolate chips on top and it did not disappoint! My friend ordered the crepes! It was a blend of warm, and yummy deliciousness. It had bananas and Nutella with chocolate drizzled on top. It was to die for and I don't like Nutella or bananas. I am super happy that this place opened up - compared to the previous business (Mr. Cool), it seems like everything great was kept (the rolled ice cream, spacious sitting area, and proximity to campus) and improved everything that wasn't so great (most importantly, the interior design was taken to a WHOLE new level!!!). On January 3rd, 2023 at approximately 7:45pm I went to this establishment for crepes. As I walk in, there is no one in the lobby but an employee on his personal cell phone. The employee is a heavy set man who later identified himself as the "assistant manager". I greeted the employee because he did not, knowing this I felt he didn't even want to deal with us. So I wait in line until he is finishes on his phone, he is on the phone while we wait, then he just looks up and I begin my order. As I begin my order he stops me and tells me "they were here first" I look to my right and see a party of three waiting in line to order, be in mind this group was in the bathroom before ever waiting in line, so I respond with "but they were not in line". Knowing this employee felt he was right I simply stepped back and let the other group begin the order. I honestly felt discrimination was in place due to the employee not being practical with us. After he finishes the other parties order he then asks me for my order. I question the employee if he felt that was right what he did. He said they were here first. I then asked to speak to the manager or if I can have the contact information of the manager and he replied while stuttering that he's the assistant manager. I then explained to him if he was the manager he would never do what he just did. He responded he can run this establishment however he wants and if I don't like it I can leave. This was the worst experience I've experienced in my lifetime. I simply felt discriminated and drove from lake city florida to simply have a crepe based on Google reviews. Because when ordered here and consumed here, they're excellent. Service on a Saturday night was with two people who were both welcoming, helpful, attentive and professional. Today I went into Rock n Roll expecting another sweets/coffee place but was surprised at the ambiance the space had! The staff was incredibly nice in providing us our crepes and coffee. The owner, Mo, presented himself nicely and told us about all of the future plans they had to bring savory crepes as well to compliment the sweet crepes. The space in the back of the shop is really cool and has a different vibe from the other coffee shops in Gainesville, definitely good for spending some time there. read more

To make a bad situation worse the workers were openly rude and not at all helpful. I highly recommend Rock n Roll. One of my favorite things to do in Gainesville is find cool places for food/desserts and Rock n Roll is just that. We went late at night on a weekend, so it was busy/the wait took a while. However, we were all happy with our orders, and there was ample seating to get comfortable while we waited. I had the peanut butter milkshake and enjoyed it, next time I might get the rolled ice cream (I do remember thinking there weren't that many flavors, but what they do have are crowd-pleasers so most people should be happy). The location is a walking distance from campus but I would recommend going with your friends (especially if it's later at night, just to be safe). Anyways, overall good experience. I called ahead of time to see if they had outside seating so I could bring my dog and the employee told me it was no problem he could set something up for me. When I got there he carried a table and chair right outside the storefront for me and my pup. Ordered a vanilla cappuccino and a banana, strawberry, and Nutella crepe which were both AMAZING. The gentleman even brought out a little cup of water and whipped cream for my dog. Will definitely be back to try the rolled ice cream. P.S.A. If you wanna bring your dog, I'd be sure to call first cause the store front isn't very big (only enough room for 1-2 dogs), and it's right on university so there's a lot of foot traffic and cars rolling by, in case your dog doesn't do well with those things. I'd also advise to bring them in the morning or evening or when it's not very hot out. If it's just you, come by ANYTIME. Plenty of seating inside and as I said earlier, food is great. read more
