I just toured the campus of Mayberry Gardens in Garland and couldn't be more impressed. I was…read moreinvited by the owner, Andy, to come see the space and WOW! Unlike many large Senior Living facilities, Mayberry has individual brick homes with 11 bedrooms in each. Like "The Golden Girls," there is a full kitchen, living area and a laundry room in the homes. The residents don't have to go far to dine - just right down the hall (all meals are cooked on site) and there are activities scheduled in the beautifully decorated main living rooms for the residents like Bingo and special speakers. Andy knows all the residents by name and treats them well, as if he was their son. We visited a few ladies, and they were so happy to see him! That tells me a lot about this place. Andy also treats his workers well; some have been with him for decades. I visited five different assisted living sites while looking for a safe place for my father as he began having issues with balance and his memory. Mayberry Gardens is exactly the kind of place I wanted for him: caring workers, beautiful and clean surroundings, healthy meals prepared for him so he could eat and wouldn't keep losing weight. If your parent (or parents) can no longer live alone, check out Mayberry Gardens.

If you have a parent in need of assisted living I highly recommend Mayberry. The staff is great,…read morethey manage meds, cook 3 squares a day and go above and beyond what you actually sign a contract for.

But the nurses are uncaring and don't want to be bothered with providing care to these folks. My dad almost died due to a lazy butt nurse and DON. They failed to get a small lab test as simple as obtaining urine and getting the order from his doctor. They both told me it was done, a week later he ended up in The Intermediate Care Unit from a deadly bacteria in his bladder that got into his bloodstream. All from being uncaring, none compassionate, selfish acts steaming from being lackadaisical. Dad only required medicine, diaper changes, bathing, and repositioning. Only 4 things!!! He eats from a feeding tube and has a catheter. He can't talk or move. The administrator When I came to inform him of the negligence. He basically stated that they don't listen to family members' concerns because they look up symptoms on Google. Placing everyone in the same boat; prejudging, and failing to apologize for causing harm to my dad. I didn't reach out to the state department instead I contacted my Senator and they investigated on my dad's behalf. If your family member is suffering from the care of their caregivers, and the state department is failing to advocate and protect them. Contact your representatives. Do not place your loved ones here. This is another nightmare facility in the nursing home business.

They wrongly discharged my father and were cited for their maladaptive behaviors. This is the type of business this place is known to become. Grace, who is the Assistant Director of Nursing, is an evil person. The workers do not care about your loved ones. It is merely a job to them. They have great turnover ratings. Always short-staffed when it comes to CNAs, sometimes the residents do not get their lunch until almost three hours before dinner. This is so sad. One day, they will get back what they give to these poor people. Most of the nurses and CNAs do not speak English as their first language is an African dialect. So there is always a difficult time trying to relay what is needed. Although they speak another language does not justify their non-caring, lackadaisical work ethic. This place is a hot mess. You have been warned. There is no type of care from Dr. Sharma; he relies on his nurse practitioners to do his job. He lies and pretends to have seen my family member, but never entered his room. This I know for certain because we had a camera in my loved one's room. This is Insurance Fraud. You have been warned! RUN while your family member is still alive.

The sunday nurse was very helpful. The rest, not so much. At night noone answered Dad's call button. My largest concern is the diet. We have instructed them repeatedly on Dad's dietary restrictions, and still someone has to be there for every meal. They have an issue with the room assignments so that every meal comes to him with someone else's name on it. No idea how they think they can keep up with dietary needs of everyone. We've brought up our own fresh vegetables and fruit so that he has something healthy to eat each meal which has helped alot. His blood sugar is now normal. The last two nights theyve sent Dad to the hospital only to have the hospital return him the same night. Actually, this is the 7th day he's been there and they've sent him to the hospital 3 times. He is definitely in worse shape than when we checked him in. I read other comments on the 'speech therapy'. We had that and dementia screening, too. Something every day. He just wants to use a walker so he can go home. I'll post back. OK, so Dad passed today. He was old and his organs failed him. But. The remington folks ignored Dads DNR. Said it wasnt adequate. And my mom had to watch the Remington 'nurse' beat on Dads chest for 4 minutes until she got a heartbeat so that the ambulance drivers could take him to the hospital where he officially died. Sigh. Long story short. If youre healthy, this place can work for you. If you need nursing care, this nursing home lacks. Severely lacks.
