Patty did a wonderful job on my wedding dress. She was able to give me a few options of how to bustle the dress and was very open to my feedback. She completed all my alterations after just one fitting. After two weeks, I came back for my final fitting, she wanted to change one little thing and did it on the spot so I was able to take the dress home that day. It wasn't cheap, but was within the amount that I thought it would be. For the bustle (10 pick-ups total), getting it hemmed, taken in at the waist, and cups sown in, it was around 450. I truly can't say enough great things about Patty!! I had three appts. with her leading up to my wedding - she is professional, SO knowledgeable, affordable, and super pleasant to work with. I found this place for my bridesmaid dress alterations after my debacle with Amanda's Bridal. The woman who fitted me was efficient, friendly, and eminently reasonable about the price ($45, literally half of some other quotes I got). I walked in in the middle of the day and was out within fifteen minutes. The only problem I had was that she said she would call me when she finished, and she didn't, and I moved to another state, and had to have the bride pick up the dress like 3 weeks later, which could have been a problem, but turned out not to be. I recently got married in Australia on Dec. 18th. Patty took care of me, and my dress! After ordering my dress in May from a bridal shop in North Carolina, I was mistakenly told that I would receive my dress in September. I called the shop to check on the status of my dress, and was told that it would not even get to North Carolina until late October. I called Patty Elliott, as I remembered meeting her at the Boulder Bridal Showcase, and found her to be warm. She spoke with my for over half an hour on the phone, and she reassured me that she had done bridal alterations with much less time. My dress arrived, and I went in for my first fitting in mid-November. The dress would not zip! It did not have side seams, so it couldn't be let out. I was envisioning crazy crash diets and hours in the gym to get into my dress. Patty calmed me down, and I decided to head back to CorePower Yoga to relieve the stress and slim down, rather than crash diet. Two weeks later, the dress zipped, and Patty got to work on my alterations and my bustle. At my final fitting, I could not have been more happy. Patty even helped me pack the dress for the long flight to Australia! I was thrilled with Patty from beginning to end, and will be taking all of my clothes to her for alterations in the future. Patty is an amazing tailor, but even more importantly, she is a great person. I had to buy my bridesmaid dress from David's Bridal. I was really uncomfortable with the style of dress chosen and I felt like it didn't fit right, but didn't know exactly what was wrong. I took it in and Melissa was amazing. She made me feel really comfortable and made the dress fit perfectly. When I picked it up, she showed me how I should pack it (had to fly to the wedding) to keep the fabric nice and what I should do if I needed to spot clean it. The bra strap holders she put in were fantastic! All the other bridesmaids were jealous because my bra was the only one staying in place and they had to keep adjusting their dresses to hide their straps. Patty was recommended to me by Anna Be Bridal Boutique in Denver where I bought my full lace dress. I could not have been more happy with Patty's attention to detail. After Patty's great work altering a rehearsal dinner dress for my own wedding, when a bridesmaid dress for an upcoming wedding did not fit I knew just who to call. 0 stars... i found THE DRESS and not only did it fit perfectly with its corset back and fall to a perfect length, but it already had bustles sewn in. it seemed like everything was good to go, but i knew nothing about wedding dresses so i thought i'd get an expert opinion to look it over just in case. patty elliott had me come in for a quick consultation so she could let me know if anything needed to be done. she said i only needed a single fitting and was willing to work with my crazy schedule as a med student going to school out of state. her store is in a warehouse-looking area and was very difficult to find. it was december and freezing out and the old, dimly-lit store seemed to be just as cold inside as it was outside. patty seemed like she knew what she was talking about as she looked over my dress. she had me change into it and stand in front of her small mirror. i was in my strapless dress, trying to hold in shivers as she slowly inspected my bustles (while wearing at least 3 layers and a jacket). i was still under the impression that this "consultation" wouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes, tops -- especially since i really didn't find anything to be obviously wrong with the dress. after fumbling around for awhile, patty told me that the bustle in my dress was completely wrong. she said that she would have to take it all out and redo it completely. she started pulling fabric up and pinning away. meanwhile, i couldn't see anything that was going on and she didn't bother to explain what she was doing. she complained about how she had injured her hands and it was difficult to move her fingers, so i didn't want to rush her. she also spent 30 min complaining about 'a fitting place,' her previous place of work and how she was underpaid and they were mean to her and how they charge so much more than her... on and on. after i lost all circulation to my feet (wearing my heels), she finally let me take a look. my dress looked completely different. the back had these huge poofy cinderella bustles instead of the orignal subtle pickups. unfortunately, i knew absolutely nothing about bustles at the time because i didn't think they needed fixing. i asked her about the various bustle styles and she told me that what she had pinned up was really the only option that would work with my dress. supposedly, the big poofy folds of fabric in the back were just a consequence of how the dress was designed -- there was no other way she could pin up a bustle. seemed odd to me because the original bustle looked just fine... in fact muchh better. i had allotted ~$50 for minor alterations. i thought maybe i would need to pull the neckline down a tad or fix some other tiny detail. to my surprise, patty told me that she had to put in 5 bustles to hold the train up (while the original bustle system only had 3 bustle points and looked fine). she wrote up an invoice and said it would be $185 for the alterations. i had never heard of bustles costing so much, even at david's bridal, which is notorious for ripping brides off. patty had spent an hour pinning my dress and it really didn't seem like it was an option to walk out of there without paying her... i guess i should have told her at that point that i needed to bring my mom in (or get a 2nd alterations opinion). but she didn't exactly present an option other than leaving the dress with her and paying at least a down payment. being the pushover that i am, i left my dress with her and walked away with a sinking feeling. i told myself that i didn't really have a choice, since it was my last day in town and she was the one person who could work with my schedule. later that day, i still felt iffy about the whole thing, so i asked patty to hold off on doing any sewing until i had a chance to research some bustles and look at examples online. she didn't seem happy about it. i easily found 5-6 examples of french bustles done on the exact dress style i had and they all looked 100x better than the large, flappy, poofy folds she had pinned the train into. she had told me to email the examples to her. 2-3 weeks later, no response, so i emailed her again. this time she replied -- a single sentence along the lines of "yeah i got your email but the pictures and whatever you wrote made no sense." what..? i'm ocd and had labeled everything clearly. it became obvious that she was unwilling to help at all to get the dress to look how i wanted, so i asked her if i could come by and pick the dress up. on the phone and in person, she was very short, insulting, and just all-around rude. even though she hadn't done any work on my dress, i didn't get my $$ back. so much for a free consultation... avoid patty elliott's at all costs, especially for something as important as a wedding dress. i hate to say this, but she is inexperienced and overcharges (yes, even in comparison to 'a fitting place,' which she had ranted about), but most of all, really doesn't seem to care to work with the customer. read more

Patty is a miracle worker! In a nutshell, here is my wedding dress saga and how Patty came to my rescue. For your reference, I am 5' 5" and weigh 114 lbs. I had purchased a brand new, gorgeous, very expensive, strapless, intricate lace, fitted wedding gown with a low V-back. I went to a seamstress recommended by the salon from where I purchased my dress for slight alterations and a bustle. Easy, right? My dress was just a shade too big on me initially, so it needed to be taken in just 1-1.5 inches in the bust and rib cage area. Well, the first seamstress somehow made a big initial mistake in measuring, and accidentally took my dress in about 6 inches too much. The first time I tried it on, it went from being too big, to not even zipping halfway up my back. I was crushed. Four fittings later with my first seamstress, my dress was still unbearably tight, pulling in all the wrong places, and the bustle was half-dragging on the floor which was very impractical. I was so sad and expressed my discomfort to her, but my first seamstress said there was nothing else she could do since she had already cut away the material. That's when I asked for my dress back from her and found Patty. Needless to say, my Mom and I were quite stressed at this point. With only 6 weeks until my wedding day, Patty was able to find different seams to work with in my dress to let it back out so I could breathe. She was then able to create the most beautiful 17-point bustle to get my very long, cathedral-length train off the ground so I could dance without tripping, simultaneously working with me to get the design of my vision just right. It only took 4 fittings. Patty's alterations were not inexpensive (especially for all the bustle points I had), but for her professional expertise and efficient work ethic within a tight deadline, I felt that the cost was well worth it. On my wedding day, I felt glamorous, I was comfortable, I danced the Foxtrot, and I absolutely LOVED my dress and the way it felt. I highly recommend Patty and would trust her with any expensive or intricate garment. She is very knowledgeable, creative at alteration problem-solving, and is an expert in her profession. She thoroughly understands how garments should properly fit the body, and what good craftsmanship and sewing looks like. Throughout the process, she also gave me thoughtful suggestions that I never would have considered with regards to looking my best in my dress on the day-of. Its very rare to find a real seamstress in business, if that's what you are looking for, you have found it. Bridezilla's beware!!!! This is a classic elegant place of business. I found Patty to be refreshing and professional, she was honest and very experienced. When you are fitting yourself for a wedding or special occassion, you need to be sure you are getting the right dress. Keep in mind you can take things in but its more difficult to let them out if they don't fit correctly. If you're wearing a dress thats too tight for you, your seamstress should tell you! For the work and care produced in such a flawless effort to tailor authentic dresses, this is something worth spending the money on. I read these reviews of people complaining that she mentioned needing to lose weight because the dress was snug around the hip area. This is the customers issue not the seamstresses, don't wear a dress that is too tight for you, live in the NOW and get a dress that fits, shes not a miracle worker, and frankly i would trust my tailor to be honest with me rather than me pay for a service to only be uncomfortable in a gown that was not suited for my figure. She was saying she needed 7 bustles which isn't true. She also made her feel bad about her body asking her if she was going to be working out because the dress was tight around her hip area.
