STAY FAR FAR AWAY. 3 weeks before my smallish wedding (older couple/second marriages) I took my gorgeous dress into get it shortened and have an issue fixed where the lining was attached incorrectly and pulling a bit. The lady actually took a razor blade to it and destroyed it. A RAZOR BLADE! (See photos) I should have known when I walked into that sty that is was a mistake. The place is filthy, there is crap everywhere and probably the most unprofessional tailoring shop I have ever been in. So now I have to either find a new dress to get married in in 3 weeks or pay a small fortune to get it repaired somehow. Read the other reviews. These folks are a total disaster. read more

I went in to see if a dress I had could be altered and the woman who was helping me was very nice and helpful. After hearing the price, being 100$ for a dress I had only spent 40$ on, I was very apologetic and decided not to get it altered and leave it as is. The woman was professional about it but one of the other men working yelled at me and said that I had wasted their time (I was in the shop a total of 10 min). This was a very shocking interaction because in my past experiences, it has been the norm to receive a quote and if unhappy with the price be able to choose not to have the service done. So disappointed- read the whole thing! Will not be returning or recommending... I went to Elegant Alterations because I needed a satin dress altered for a wedding. Packing for my trip, I noticed my dress had 3 stains. I had never worn this dress before and it had been hanging in my closet since I picked it up. I decided to take it to Elegant Alterations and politely ask if they knew what happened/what kinds of stains they were and how to get them out. They not only gaslit me, saying that it was MY fault for waiting to the last minute to pack, they ruined it even more when trying to "fix" it. The next day, I was scrambling to find a same day cleaners in LA. Luckily, I found one willing to have it ready 1 hour before the event. Each dry cleaners told me that I should NOT put water on satin/silk garments. When I returned home, I brought the receipt back to them and politely told them what the cleaners told me. They had other customers in their shop and waited until the majority were gone to serve me. As she was angrily writing out the check to reimburse me for my dry cleaning (as they said they would), the older male employee gaslit me, AGAIN, yelling at me that he's "a professional" and that they "did not do this." Once again blaming me. I responded by informing him, again, that I had never worn my dress and did not do anything to it. PS- the receipt from the cleaners was $22.65 and she wrote the check out for only $20. The way they treated me, a paying customer, was completely absurd and disrespectful. I had used this shop in the past and they had provided good service, but something happened and they've gone significantly down hill. I took in several shirts for relatively basic tailoring, and the alterations they supposedly did were almost non-existent. They certainly did not do what I asked, so I took them in again, and again they had done nothing. They asked me to come back in a few days, which I did. I came back, and again took the shirts home expecting that they finally altered the shirts like I had asked. I got home to find they had done nothing. I came in a final time, and the owner of the shop approached me in a hostile way, and when I calmly explained that the shirts had barely been touched, he flew into a rage, Yelled and threatened to call the police. A woman working there tried to intervene and asked how if she could help, but at this point I had been in 4 times, had been yelled at and demeaned, so I decided to cut my losses and take my business elsewhere. The level of unprofessionalism and lack of respect this shop owner exhibited was unbelievable. Not sure what changed with them, or if I had just been lucky the previous two visits, but I would avoid this shop at all cost. read more

Ten days after dropping off 3 pairs of slacks I returned to collect one pair of slacks that were to be hemmed. It was four days after the date they were supposed to be done. After searching for a while ,it was discovered that the slacks weren't hemmed. Why give a date and then miss it by 4 days? Hire more help or estimate a more conservative later date for pick up. I would have been fine with that. This is the second time this has happened here. Owner said give me 20 minutes. After 20 minutes I went to collect the pants and the other 2 slacks that were to be completed later to bring them somewhere else . First Pants weren't being worked on. I asked for a refund for the items since they had been paid in full ahead of time. In the meantime the first pants were hemmed in five minutes. I said I would pay for those pants but owner gave me a full refund. Hence three stars not two. He threw the pants on a chair next to me without an apology. I had not been rude or demanding and in fact was very quiet. Disappointing service. read more

I cannot speak more highly of this sweet woman and her partner! I called in a complete bind. A seamstress I had hired to fix a bridesmaid dress totally botched it. I had less than 24 hours to figure something out. I called Elegant and she told me to come in right away and she would see what she could do. A literal ANGEL. We both laughed at the terrible attempt to fix my dress and she LITERALLY had tons of alterations DONE for me with three hours to spare before the wedding. I can never thank them enough. Absolutely terrible service. I needed a dressed altered for a wedding, came in over a month and a half out from the event. I needed the straps shortened, the dress itself hemmed and a dart put in on the side so it would lay flat because it was too big on the sides. I was blatantly insulted by the seamstress claiming the dress was too small and that's why it didn't lie flat on the sides when I have a picture holding the dress up on either side to show how it was way too big. They shortened the straps but only halfway, the dress itself was too short for the heels I needed to wear (even though I wore them while they pinned me), and the side looked worse than when I initially brought in the dress. Whilst attempting to pick up the dress (now a week away from wedding), I see the alterations are half-assed and the dress still doesn't lay flat. They then tried to get me to come back at a later date in order for them to fix their mistakes, but frankly a three year old with three safety pins could have done a better job. they attempted to pin the dress upon seeing my frustrations with their work which only made it look worse. I decided it would be better for me to take the dress home as is and alter it myself. Not to mention for their sloppy work, I paid 98 dollars. This place was a recommendation from a fellow CU parent, but if you are attempting to have a nice article of clothing altered here, go literally anywhere else. read more

I needed to patch my favorite jacket that I've worn for 10 years. The elbow was completely torn open and I didn't have high expectation that it can be restored to its original look. The owners also told me they can use a black pad but it won't be the same. However, they completely surprised me by finding material that exactly matches that of my jacket and patched it perfectly. I cannot tell that it was patched! They told me they knew I loved this jacket and wanted to make sure that I love the patched one as well so they went the extra mile. Getting married is a stressful experience. It gets even more stressful when you find out you have been measured incorrectly for your dress, the dress itself comes in late, and worst of all, it's a size too small. Needless to say, I was panicking a little by the time I walked into Elegant Tailoring and Alterations. I had a little over a month to my wedding, and I was sure that nobody would be able to get the work done quickly and well. Much to my delight, Yildiz told me they could do it, and quoted me a price that was about half of what I had read was standard for this type of alteration. When I came back three weeks later, one week before my wedding, the dress fit beautifully. She even did a 14-point bustle for me in three days, which is no small feat. At my wedding, I felt beautiful and comfortable in my dress, and that is all thanks to Yildiz and Elegant Tailoring: they saved my big day. A few weeks ago I brought my suit jacket in for alterations (I've lost some weight recently due to my girlfriend forcing me to work out, and now all my clothes are too loose, but that's another story). Anyway, they measured me and told me to come back in a week for a nicely fitted jacket. When I show up the staff has a worried look on their faces. It seems that they can't find my jacket. The tailor remembered that she altered it, but even after they searched the store top to bottom it never turned up. They told me to come back the next day. Surely it was under some pile of cloth somewhere. The next day I come back and the tailors are contrite. It seems that another customer who was in town from Peru had asked for a rush job and somehow ended up walking out the door with both his own nicely fitted suit coat as well as my own. There was no way to contact the customer and my jacket was almost surely enjoying roasted capybara somewhere south of Lima by now. They were distraught. Almost in tears. They said that they hadn't lost an article of clothing in almost seven years. They immediately offered to reimburse me for the replacement cost and tailor any new jacket that needed work. Mistakes happen and it was the right thing to do. Now, I can't say that I'm happy that my coat disappeared, but their customer service was spot on. In some ways this is probably the best gauge of whether a shop is a good one or not--the world is a chaotic place, and not everything goes the way you want it to. However, taking responsibility for an error is truly good business. Additionally, my girlfriend (she still isn't my fiancee, she says I need to stop pressuring her) had three pieces done and they look awesome. I'll give them another chance once I have other things to alter. read more

Hidden Gem! I have really short legs so basically every pair of pants I buy (yesssss, even Petite sizes) need to be altered. I found these guys when I had a one day turn-around to an outfit I needed for an interview and they did a wonderful job on those slacks. I went back this week for a pair of jeans I needed altered and she told me she could have them done in 3 days - woot! When I asked the price, her accent lead me to believe it was "$30." Since I was charged $35 at another place last year I thought, "Ok. I know they do great work and I got the jeans on sale." When I went back, it turns out she meant "Thirteen." Double woot. They are friendly, professional, and I am always attended to immediately when I walk through the door. Why would I go anywhere else?! read more

This business saved the day!! Three weeks ago I went to another alteration business. I picked up my evening dress 2 days ago and was devastated. They told me that they decided to take-in even more fabric on my dress. Consequently, I had a serious muffin top going on in the chest area and no I had not gained weight. Most frustrating part was that they did not think there was anything wrong. So I left and found Elegant Tailors on yelp. I called them during after hours, explained that my dress had been ruined and was flying out in two days. I needed this dress to go with me. They offered to let me come in before business hours the following morning. I was greeted by the sweetest man ever. The staff was very professional and listened to what I wanted. I dropped off my dress yesterday morning and picked up a perfect dress this morning. Only hours before my flight. On top of that they did not charge me extra for rush. This place will get it perfect the first time and within reason will make miracles happen. Do not look any further. read more

Whenever I move to someplace new, one of the first things I try to find is a great tailor. Growing up, my aunt was a fantastic seamstress so I was spoiled whenever I had alterations or mishaps. Luckily, some researching and reading led me to Elegant Tailoring within my first few weeks in Boulder. I've lived here almost 2 years now and whenever I have any tailoring needs, I always and only go to Elegant Tailoring. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with amazing customer service and a genuine passion to deliver top-notch results. Yildiz and her husband were engineers back in their homeland, Turkey. You can see that level of problem-solving and meticulousness transferred over to their business because they will take on requests that most other tailors wouldn't even dare to. I've gone to them with a beautiful J. Crew blazer that just did not fit me right and they turned it into basically a custom/bespoke piece and charged me less than $40 for it! Thanks to them, most of my wardrobe now fits like it was made for me. On top of that, they're some of the nicest and hardest working people that most will ever come across. The level of professionalism, customer service, plus the speed/value/caring, from Elegant Tailoring and Alterations is unmatched in Boulder, and perhaps even Colorado. Took my suit here to get tailored. I was nervous since I have never had any tailoring done and this was a very expensive suit. They were very nice to me and answered all the questions I had. They measured me, gave me a date for pick up and it was all a very pleasant experience. When I went to pick up the suit, I tried it on and it fit perfectly! My hestra glove ripped I was so distraught. I thought I would have to buy a new pair of $170 gloves. Luckily I live near elegant tailoring. They aren't fast and they shouldn't be quality does happen over night. For $7 they told me they would have the glove done 4 days later and I am not disappointed. Which means my shirts are generally way to wide... Which doesn't work under my fitted suit. This husband and wife team did a great job. My shirts came out amazing, and give me that fitted custom dress shirt look I wanted. (Took about two and a half weeks) Their shop is a bit of a mess due to the popularity of their work in the Boulder area. They're busy year-round. I took a few things in - two things to get hemmed, a pair of shorts taken in, and a dress strap fixed. I paid in advance, and left. It's not their policy to call when your orders are finished, but that wasn't a huge deal. I came back in to collect my things, and they tried to charge me again. When I explained that I already paid the lady got very snippy and tried arguing. I didn't have the receipt (it was in a lost wallet), but when I kept insisting that I had already paid she became a little rude. It doesn't appear that there's any bookkeeping system to track whether a customer has paid or not, and thankfully I paid with a credit card so I can prove it. Overall, I thought the quality was good, but I don't think I'll go back considering how I was treated. read more

One month before my wedding, I called Elegant Tailoring to see if they could alter my dress. I had already been by to get updated measurements to send to the designer (she is based in Seattle). On the phone, Yilitz told me it was too soon, that it was impossible. I remained calm. I knew I was asking for a great deal. Then she told me I should come by in the morning, with the dress, and she would take a look at it. The next morning, I went to the shop. And when she discovered that I had no lace, no beadwork, and that the dress didn't need to be hemmed, she started pinning it in on me. When she frowned and pointed out that the designed had used glue to hold parts of the dress together, she said it was what it was and she would do what she could do, and I was so happy and grateful! My dress turned out beautifully. The ladies at Elegant added form into a pretty formless dress and really made it into the beautiful gown I wore on my wedding day. They spoke with me every step of the way, and didn't let me fret when I stopped in unannounced to see how the work was going. Yilitz was calm and calming every time I came by for a fitting or just to check. I am so happy to have them in Boulder! read more

So disappointed in this place. My mom was in town and wanted to make sure that I had a good set of clothes for winter, so we brought in a pair of True Religion jeans (~$300 MSRP) to be taken in at the legs and the waist. Not only was it done not to my request, but the True Religion tag that's visible on the back of the jeans (think Levi's leather patch/tag on rear waist) wasn't even sewn back on all the way! It wasn't finished on time and I barely could get anyone to help me while I was there (help w aforementioned issues) So frustrating. Won't ever be back. read more

Guys, there is no way for me to overstate just how great these folks are. They are fantastic at their work, and coming in to see them is always a pleasure. Longer review: So I'm in the rare position of being able to compare two tailoring/alterations places in an apples to apples situation. I needed to find a regular tailor for routine work (i.e. not wedding dresses) on my everyday clothes. Ready to wear clothing rarely fits anyone perfectly off the rack, and I'm no exception. Most routinely, I need waists taken in, and sometimes hips too. To find my tailor, I picked the two highest-rated tailors in Boulder (A Fitting Place, and Elegant Tailoring and Alterations) and took identical work in to both. The work was pretty simple: take in waist, hips, and thighs of a pair of pants, and hem a simple shirt. Both pairs of pants were identical (size, color, design, and brand), and the shirts were identical in all but color. Results: They did the alterations perfectly the first time around, and at reasonable prices to boot! My review of A Fitting Place goes into more detail on what went wrong there, but in essence, I paid just shy of $100 there and they managed to make both items of clothing unwearable. Elegant Tailoring did the SAME work for $36 and did it perfectly the first time around. The choice between the two was pretty simple for me. Since then, I've had many other items altered here, and their work continues to impress me. Even on simple things like hemming pants, they take the time to do it absolutely perfectly, leaving me with hems that really skim the floor, like they should. Most of my alterations are pretty run of the mill, but there are three I'll discuss in more detail: 1. I bought this awesome denim blazer with really pretty pickstitch detailing on the lapel edge. It fit well in the shoulders, but the rest of it was kind of baggy/boxy on me. I brought it in here, and as soon as I put the blazer on, Yildiz (I hope I have her name correct!) nodded and started pinning the seams and added a few darts in the front and the back. When I got the blazer back, the fit was way more form-fitting and modern. I feel like most of the time I don't even have to explain what I need done, because as soon as I put something on, she instantly knows what's wrong and how to correct it. That's really exactly what I was looking for in a tailor, and I'm so happy to have found it. 2. A Gap Academy blazer with sleeves that were too long (and uneven, as we found out). The problem with shortening the sleeves on this blazer was that they had functional vents with buttons at the ends, which makes the alteration challenging. Because the sleeves were uneven (way to go on the QA, Gap!), the perfect length on one of them actually ended AT a buttonhole. When I got the blazer back, it looked flawless, even if you looked right at the problem area of the vent/buttons. She shortened the sleeves, closed the problem buttonhole, and reattached the buttons on both sides so expertly that you can't even tell that this isn't the way the blazer was designed originally. 3. A pair of pants that needed to have the waist and hips taken in. This was actually a simple alteration, but it was the first time in over a dozen items I've had altered here that something wasn't perfect on the first try. What's really impressive is that I didn't even catch it! I came in to pick up my stuff, tried on each item to make sure the work looked good, and when I tried these pants on, they looked fine to me, but Yildiz looked at them and said that she wasn't happy with the fit on me and that the hips could come in a little bit more. She insisted on fixing it for me right then and there if I was willing to wait fifteen minutes. I did, and she did, and once again, I walked away really happy with the experience. (If you read my review of A Fitting Place, even when the item I was trying on had really obvious problems with the work done on it, the seamstress there tried to tell me that everything was fine. At no point did she identify the problems in her own work without prompting and some arguing from me.) Like I said early on, I just can't overstate how awesome this place is. They'll have my business for as long as I live anywhere within a couple of hours of driving distance to them. If you're trying to choose between tailors, pick these people, they're worth it. I still can't believe my luck at having found a tailor this good! read more
