I had several requests and instead of simply saying "I'm sorry I'm booked" she went through each of my requests and why they were bigger asks than I knew and repeatedly insisted that I needed to be in better touch with the bride at whose request the dresses were being altered. (I had the answers to her questions, she just wasn't listening to me explain my needs.) She finally said something like "How many other ways can I explain this to you?" I had a pretty negative experience. I brought Carmen my mother's wedding dress for some alterations…read moreso that I could wear it on my wedding day. Some of the changes she did beautifully, others were disastrous. I think some of what I was asking for was more complicated than I had appreciated. Like, I wanted to remove a section of the bodice because there was a lot of poof and extra fabric (mom's dress was from the 1980s). Carmen seemed hesitant at first but did agree to the task. The result was a crooked seam through the center of the dress. It was terrible, I was crushed. Please see photo below to appreciate just how bad this was. I had to bring the dress to someone else and have the entire bodice reconstructed. I will say, Carmen did a solid job fixing some of the lining and running boning through the sides so that the dress laid correctly... But would NOT recommend for highly visible or structurally substantial work on a piece that you care about. This whole ordeal was very stressful, upsetting, and expensive.
