I have never had a sub that didn't leave a drop of it's existence on the paper wrap. What does this mean? A prosciutto, fresh mozzarella with roasted peppers sub should be a bit sloppy but only if the contents are sufficient. The prosciutto was good, the bread was good but the fresh mozzarella and roasted red peppers were sparse. The cheese wasn't even a full slice? The roasted peppers were small sliced pieces scattered on the sandwich. My photo is of my second half. When I asked for napkins expecting my sandwich to be a bit messy I was told in my bag. So I am unbagging my purchase and there is one napkin, just one. I unwrapped my sandwich with high expectations of being just what I was craving- bam! Disappointed at the least, it was dry even with the olive oil on it. Opened up the second half and saw why! This is considered a gourmet Italian deli. That one napkin, if I used half of it was a lot! Lovely groumet deli with a very large menu and a lot of specialty products like fancy Irish potato chips, which I didn't even know that was a thing! We had Italian sandwiches which were really good, and they even put my fellas pork and broccoli rabe sandwich as wrap, so extra points for that. First time our Italian hogie and chicken salad sandwich were wonderful- 5 stars, second time phone order and when we got home it was all wrong, even though the person was new not sure how the order was so wrong . I was recently in Lewis, DE this past Monday for my Aunt's Funeral and was searching for a company to cater a luncheon we were hosting afterwards in her home. I emailed Patty's Deli and I received a call back from Patty within minutes. She mentioned she was closed Sunday and Monday but she would call her staff to see if they could help us out. Well, not only did they provide the most delicious wraps, homemade salads, and a variety of scrumptious desserts, she delivered it all and set it up for us while we were at the Funeral. I'm embarrassed that I never paid attention to this spot...it's a hidden treasure of goodies. They carry standard and more gourmet salads like basic tuna and chicken, but also have chicken salad with apples and currants (tasty, mild, I may add s&p). They carry homemade potato salad (heavy mustard flavor, delicious), black bean salsa (very flavorful!), fusilli green pea/asparagus salad (a little too mild for me), an Asian radish salad, etc. They sell sandwiches, cheesesteaks, & I will be trying their roasted pork & broccoli rabe hoagie! They sell fancier bottled drinks and have a soda fountain. Hands down the best sub/sandwiches in the Lewes area I would give a 9 out of 10. My husband got the steak cheesesteak and I got the chicken cheesesteak both were amazing. when you need to go to DMV . 1. Go to Patty's site: www.pattysdeli.net (hit on menu ), move to bottom of screen and you will find Patty's daily specials , or go to Facebook. 2. Call your order in because at lunch it's a 20 minute wait . 3. You know there's nowhere to sit and eat so it's always to go. I got the Composed salad for $12.99 , a composed salad basically means it's arranged rather than tossed. The salad was AWESOME house greens with grilled tenderloin of beef, roasted red skin potatoes, blue cheese crumble, grilled red onions, and tomatoes. Thankfully the house vinaigrette was on the side and thankfully they forgot to put carrots in., the special sheets description, mentioned carrots ( high carbs which consist mostly of sugar) in the salad but they weren't there. The vinaigrette wasn't nice it lacked any flavor and not sure of the quality of oil and vinegar used. A vinaigrette is a very basic dressing. Perhaps fresh herbs, tahini honey, lemon , orange or mustard added to the vinaigrette., in order to balance the acidity add something sweet honey/syrup. Just saying . The best sandwich spot in Delaware. Coming from Philly I was skeptical of any place offering a cheesesteak in Sussex County but after tasting the breakfast cheesesteak I honestly prefer Patty's over any Philly spot. The panini of the day never fails and my favorite non cheesesteak item is Ted's Italian. Also if your lucky enough to visit while they have chicken pot pie I'd buy as many as you can. The pasta salad and everything else in their deli case won't disappoint either. Patty and her crew are so nice and always there making sure everything you have is delicious. Truest one bite review I can give: "yea I'm going back to this place" So this place caught my eye for one thing on the menu, and I went for one thing only: Hot Roast pork with broccoli rabe. The sandwich if done right is the best sandwich you can ever have, and being so far from a famous spot in Philly it can be hard to find yourself a good one in Southern Delaware. Well fear not folks, Patty's Has done this sandwich right. A solid seeded baguette does the job of soaking in the meat juices from the pork, which is pulled very nicely. The sharp provolone is melted perfectly to the meat, and the broccoli rabe still has a nice crunch. Now that I think about it, roast pork sandwiches may be the only time in my life I've eaten broccoli rabe. There was a great spice to the sandwich, that was unexpected, but worked really well. One bite in I wish I ordered two, but in all honesty the sandwich is a perfectly good size. So the deli is a small deli, with picnic table outside for eating, and very nice and friendly atmosphere. They have daily specials, a nice selection of salads, and a wonderful selection of cheeses, which my wife will send me back for. Now while I have only had the Roast Pork, if anything else they serve comes close to that level, this is a place that everyone should frequent, A LOT! Service was good, the food was prepared fresh and quick, and everything was tasty. I like that they have a nice little shop of local honeys, flavored salts, pretzels, and a few other odds and ends. They have an excellent variety of cheeses, too. It has a very artisinal vibe. As much as I hate to say it, I was not wowed by the food. I had one of the daily specials; a roast beef panini. While flavorful, I can't put my finger on it but it felt like it was missing something. I don't see myself going out of my way to get it again. My honey had the chili, which--again--while good, was nothing to write home about. Still, the food is better and most likely healthier and prepared with fresher ingredients than what you would get at a fast food joint. I appreciate what they provide, and I wouldn't say no to eating here again, but I would not plan my route around it. We have sampled Patty's food on more than one occasion. Each time we have it, we are more and more impressed. Today, I had the hot roast pork sub with sharp provolone and brocolli rab. She had a roast beef sub with boursin cheese lettuce and tomato. We also purchased two different soft cheeses, the port wine and the almond cheddar and a piece of Tellegio. Best Italian sub you can find since Frankie's on Union St in Wilmington closed. The roll and the meats that they use are phenomenal. On Thursdays, order early and get their cheeseburger. Every Thursday it seems they sell out by 12-1230 and these are some of the best burgers. Recently I had the chicken salad wrap and that too was good. A liquor store, oak creek I believe, does a wine tasting every Friday and Pattys cheese and some of their foods will be there as a snack. What a great discovery. This is the type of place we love to find just driving through an area. We were on a food tour jumping over from Cape May to Lewes DE and on our way to VA beach when we drove right by 16 Mile brewery (another great find) just up the road from here. They had a little promo card for this place and their cheeses on the bar. The bartender thought they might be closed already (it was past 5 pm) but we were delighted to see the OPEN light on in the window as we approached. We didn't have sandwiches as we had just eaten but picked up a variety of snacks, home make cookies and cheeses for the remainder of our travels. Just an amazing selection of cheeses and the woman who helped us was quick to offer a taste of whatever we wanted to try, to make great selections for something similar to what we liked and to just make us feel totally at home. Cheeses like this can be quite expensive (up to $28/lb) but worth it to get some very unusual tastes like lemon or mango infused goat cheese, etc. We left there questioning how they can make a go of the business in such a remote area and then questioning our own prejudices about the willingness of people everywhere to pay for a quality product. Driving through southern Delaware is not something our family does very often, and when we eat, we like to make it an experience. Needless to say, Patty's was quite the experience. The food is gourmet casual with flavor combinations both traditional and creative. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food, from the eight-year old to the parents. When I arrived with my co-worker, I noticed this was more of a take-out place. We are on the road, so needed a place to sit but happily, there is a picnic table outside and nice weather. I was very disappointed when I went inside and was told there was no bathroom! Patrons can't be expected to eat without at least washing their hands!!
