What I learned from Paul is that hair is not a one size fits all. There are different hair types and textures that are not handled the same. Hair has a history that needs to be known by the stylist to assist in moving forward. I've always been the absolute worst at haircuts. I don't know what I like, I never remember to book an appointment until my hair is all scraggly, and I'm never quite happy with the result. My experience with Paul completely changed all of that. Well, at least the last part. I'm still terrible at knowing what I like and remembering to make appointments, but it doesn't really matter; Paul has me and my weird hair all figured out and his cuts are so great that I can go an extra month without a haircut and it doesn't really matter. And for a shorter haircut, that's really saying something. Oh, and yes, his cuts do take longer than your average salon so I'd be sure to factor in enough time. In my mind, spending an extra hour in the salon is way worth it. For the same price as cuts elsewhere, you get phenomenal service from someone who really cares about making you look your best. I stumbled across the Paul Chambers Salon over a month ago. This salon is a complete game changer for my hair. The staff is friendly. The products that Paul creates and uses are incredible. I've had the unfortunate experience of being fired by my previous stylist of 26 years...lol, I was terrified having to go out and find a new Stylist. I researched the Chicagoland Salons and I decided to give Paul Chambers a try. Wendy is my stylist and she's wonderful. The products she uses on my hair are amazing. I have natural hair which I wanted to wear blown out for a special event. The service was great, the stylist was prompt, the price was reasonable, and I loved my hair. I received many compliments at the event. The only reason I am giving this 3 stars is due to time. My blowout took 3 hours and 15 minutes. I have been a client at this salon when it was formerly known as Kuttin Ege, about 5 years now. Paul and his staff are very professional and believe in catering to their clients. I wear my hair natural so I only visit every 3-4 months for a trim and color. I've never experienced any damage from receiving color nor have I ever had any heat damage from my blow outs. I was just out walking and was struck by the beauty of the building and his Salon. Paul is in a Historic building that is stunning. His Salon transports you to another world. I was in Chicago visiting and looking for a place to get my haircut. I searched around on Google and found this place called Kuttin' Ege that had great reviews. When I clicked on google's link for that salon's website, Paul Chambers Salon came up. I was confused by the different name, but that is the site that came up, so I just assumed the two places were the same. I called the Paul Chambers Salon and asked if they took walk-ins or if they had any appointments for the day (Monday). I was told yes, and I went there about 3:30pm. No one else was there except the person who answered the phone. He was also the stylist. Though now that I've looked up the salon on Google to write a review, I see that the salon is listed as being closed on Mondays!! I'm not sure why someone was there answering the phone, or why I was encouraged to come in and get a cut. I wish I had just been told that the regular stylists were out for the day. Anyway, I wasn't told any of that, and I went to the salon. I have (had!!) really long hair, down to my waste, and I just wanted my hair trimmed --no more than 3-4 inches. I told the stylist that I would be happy to have one or two layers in the back in a sort of v shape --the way my hair had been cut before-- but that it wasn't necessary. The old layers were still in my hair, and the stylist should have been able to see them and see the cut I had, even though it had grown long and needed to be cleaned up. The cut I had is actually quite common, so it should not have been difficult to figure out. But I really just wanted the split ends cut off, and said I didn't need the layers if that was not doable. The stylist clearly did not understand what I said and clearly was not able to look at my hair and see the layers/ know the hair style I had had previously. He SAID he knew what I was saying, though, so I let him cut it. He cut my hair completely differently than it was cut. This would have been fine, had he only cut 3-4 inches off. But he cut about 6-7+ inches off. Now my hair is only down to the middle of my chest. I am really bothered that I went to this place. And I am really bothered to see that they were supposed to have been closed today. I'm also bothered that they are not even associated with Kuttin' Ege, but that google links this salon's website to Kuttin Ege. That last part is obviously not the salon's fault, but all of the rest is. On the positive side (if there is one), the stylist was super nice, though it took him about 2 hours to cut my hair (and, as mentioned, he did it in a way that actually does not have any layers in it at all but is more than half a foot shorter than what I said I wanted). I sort of wish I had just cut my hair myself. The stylist gave me a discount, I guess, as he only charged me $40, rather than the $65+ listed on the site. I would have rather paid more to have what I want, though. Finally, the stylist sort of tried to justify cutting more than twice what I was willing to have him cut, claiming that the style demanded it. I didn't ask for/want a new style, just a trim. I will never go there again, ever. read more
