This review is long over due. Dr. Ching gets my award for best dentist. I switched to Dr. Ching after being overcharged by a previous dentist. I was referred to Dr. Ching by a friend. The best referral ever! Dr. Ching is the first dentist that truly cared about my dental health. I have never learned so much about preventative dental care. No dentist has ever taken the time to counsel me on how I could personally prevent getting cavities. Since I have started going to Dr. Ching I have not had one cavity! He is caring, honest, genuine, funny, and takes the time to explains things to you! Heck, I actually look forward to going to the dentist! I cant forget about his great team as well. The hygienist are just as fantastic. You can tell they are all very knowledgeable and trained well. They give me good tips without it coming off as a lecture. They are welcoming, friendly. Dr. Paul Ching runs a great practice! He promotes preventative maintenance over procrastination with your pearly whites, and you will get the sense that he knows what he is doing. The dental hygienists and all the assistants are always genuinely kind and friendly to my ohana and I. We always have an extremely positive experience when we go there to get cleaning or services done. They have great operating hours and can even accommodate a Saturday appointment (however, I believe they are booked through April '22 for Saturday appointments). They have validated parking and are conveniently located in Liliha, at the St. Francis Medical Center. Of course, as with everything else, COVID-19 has forced businesses to change their policies. I say this to inform you that you may have to take extra precautions to keep yourself and others safe (i.e. sanitizing hands, wearing face masks, arriving to the office by yourself, etc.). This office is amazing and you get treated as if you were part of their ohana. I recommend this place if you are looking for an awesome office to make your go-to for dental services. read more

Made an appointment with this dentist to get my tooth fixed, I gave my insurance card even though they could see I had the coverage to have my cavity done which I was in pain said they would need to verify it and they couldn't get a hold of insurance because there in the east cost.why did they even set up the appointment if they were going to have me come back another day, wasted my day, sounds like they're more concerned about your money than helping you.wont be coming back to this dentist. read more

If you're looking for a dentist, LOOK NO FURTHER. I'm the kind of person that's always been terrified and traumatized by past dentist visits. Even going to the cleanings frighten me cause I don't like the discomfort on my teeth. But Dr. Ching is informative, funny, and just generally cares. He can't keep treating cavities without fixing the underlying cause which are my bad habits (I don't floss everyday) so we're working towards improving that. I've never felt the urge to take care of my teeth as good as I do now after seeing him. Past dentists just basically told me "You HAVE to floss so you don't have to keep coming back- bye." But Dr. Ching will sit down and talk to you. He'll ask you questions that'll help him better understand your situation, concerns, and habits. What I enjoy is that he gives you OPTIONS. He doesn't tell you one way to do things and you have no choice but to do that. He'll inform you of different routes you can take and it's up to you how you wanna do it so you can find out what works best for you. I love that I get text reminders too cause I'm horrible at remembering. The whole staff is so kind and I get the feeling they generally love their jobs. They made me feel so comfortable in an environment of my worst nightmares. No forced kindness here that you get at other places. And I don't feel as if I'm a burden for having fucked up teeth. Past dentists seemed very tired of seeing me all the time they looked genuinely tired and stressed when I walked in LOL. Other patients also seemed to enjoy their time there too. I also love that they give you the break down of the expenses beforehand. I have a print out of how much my insurance covers and what I'll be paying out of pocket after all my visits. Their technology also seems very advanced too. Which I like. Better technology, better service, less discomfort. Today was my first visit/cleaning. I left feeling great (which I never do after leaving the dentist). I didn't have that left over gross taste in my mouth with the left over crunchiness that I always felt at other dentists. The nurse cleaning my teeth was very prompt. She didn't let me drown in my saliva like other places do. My appointment was at 11:40 but I got there a little earlier so they took me in sooner (I didn't even sit down in my chair yet). OH. And I liked that he gave me the option of opting out from using the safety glasses. I have eyelash extensions and he told me I didn't have to use the glasses in case it messes my lashes up. Other places will just throw em on you without even asking. So I liked that he took my lashes into consideration- I ended up choosing to wearing em. Safety first before beauty. I have no complaints. And I'm surprisingly looking forward to my next visit. You'd be missing out if you passed up on Dr. Ching. I promise you that. read more

Highly recommend! One of the most high tech dentist I have been to. Dr. Ching is really good and makes sure your comfortable. Took his time explaining things and giving educational videos about products he recommended. Very detailed too, he not only did X-rays but took actually pictures of the inside of my mouth which really helped me understand what I need to get fixed. The staff is very friendly as well and works will with making sure you get scheduled with what works best for you. I had been looking for a dentist since I had finally got insurance, I wish I reached out to them first as they responded fast to my request to get an appointment, but super glad I didn't stick to my first choice, may have not had the same experience as I did today. read more

Marie, Jamie & Dr Ching are such amazingly wonderful people. I honestly can't say enough good words about them!!! Marie is extremely friendly, sweet, and does most of the front desk work. She's the first and last person you speak to before you enter and leave the office. And let me tell you...She really knows how to send you off with good vibes. Also, I appreciate the fact that she sends out text confirmations/reminders about your appointments bc sometimes I can be so forgetful. Jamie is very energetic and pleasant! She was always very polite to me and on-it when Dr.Ching needed her to do something. Granted it's her job, but she did it with such grace. I've had experiences before where the assistant was very much sassy and seemed to hate their duties, but Jamie was very easy to work with. Dr. Ching is a humorous, intelligent, and really delightful man. I've had horrible experiences with my previous dentist on Maui and I've never gone back since. After wanting to correct my teeth and check-up on my oral health (yeaaaaars later), I decided to get a consultation with an orthodontist before I saw Dr.Ching. I had told him about this and he immediately knew what to start doing as far as the steps to take before getting braces - cleaning treatments, checked to see if I had gum disease, and cavaties. What I admire most about him is the fact that he's considerate of what Dr. Tan (Ortho) might be doing to my teeth in regards to braces. He didn't want to pull teeth and make it hard for the ortho. So the fact that he's working with her to figure out a plan on what he should do is HIGHLY admirable! Also, he was VERY upfront with me about everything and I appreciate that so much! He has given me wise advice and is full of common sense. Not to mention, he spoke in a way that I would understand. I didn't feel flustered nor did I feel unsure/untrustworthy of him at all! To back himself up, he also has a screen with your x-rays etc., that you can look at. I felt like I was in school and learning new things. You know when a teacher is explaining step by step on a projector screen about something? That's what it felt like when he explained everything to me. It was fascinating! The office is not too big and definitely not too small. They have lots of reading material if you need to kill time while you wait to be called in. They're also not crowded, which is always a pleasure bc I'm not a fan of crowds. But that doesn't mean that they don't have patients, bc they definitely do. Cost: I am uninsured. Every payment comes out of my pocket. Their prices are fortunately and thankfully very affordable!! They give a 20% kamaaina discount and believe me, it makes a huge difference! For dental work in excess of $200, payment plans are optional but that's only upon request. I'm not sure what sort of payment plans they have available, but just ask them (if it's absolutely necessary & if it meets the requirements). My overall experience was one to remember. Marie was able to book me another appointment that worked with my schedule. She was also fast and efficient in assisting Dr.Ching with whatever info he needed from Dr.Tan (Ortho). They also made me feel extremely comfortable and less self conscious about my teeth. I walked out of those doors feeling hopeful and confident in myself and in them. Growing up, I was always told no Dentist could fix my teeth. Sadly I believed it too. But this amazing staff give me hope. --I'm super stoked and am looking forward to my dental cleaning this Wednesday!! I'll continue to update my post as I do with any major/important procedure/work that I get done. But with that being said, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place to you! I am so glad that I found Dr. Ching. I hadn't been to the dentist in a long time. Partly due to changing jobs and insurance and always forgetting to make an appointment. You always hear horror stories of a bad dentist experience so i wanted to make sure I found someone I could trust. My insurance recommended Dr Ching since he was in network. I went straight to Yelp to see the reviews and I was pleased to see so many positive experiences, and all the reviews were right! Dr. Ching and his staff have been so amazing. They are very thorough in their explanations. They did not make me feel bad for waiting so long since the last time I had seen a dentist. They took their time in evaluating the health of my teeth and gums to put a plan in place for me. The other thing that I was impressed with is Marie knowing that I would potentially had some issues, they worked me in a week sooner so that if I needed work done I had an appt on the books I could use. Also I had cracked off one of my fillings the day of my appt, so I was able to get that fixed right away. They did a great job cleaning my teeth. My mouth felt healthier right away. The next day I went back to fix my filling and I was shocked with how quick, easy, and painless it was. And Dr. Ching did a great job ensuring that it was shaped correctly so that my bite was in tact and the edges were smooth without me having to tell him! Also love that they validate parking completely bc I've been to other doctors and still was responsible for half the parking charges. All in all a fantastic dentist with an amazing staff! I had an unfortunate circumstance of a crown falling out (it's been about 18 years since it's been placed in, probably just old). Due to a COVID-19, i had hard time getting an appointment with other dental professionals in the area. Dr Paul G Ching, DDS was my 3rd call. And I'm glad it was! I have been looking for a good, long-term dentist since my childhood was horrible. After many years of avoiding the dentist, I tried another clinic last year before finding Dr. Ching. Staff was kind, location is convenient, Dr. Ching explains things very well and he didn't try to force any procedures on me to make more money. I also appreciated that he didn't make me feel bad when I shared that I don't regularly floss (my childhood dentist was very condescending). I'm already looking forward to my next appointment and hope that I can continue coming to Dr. Ching for many years to come. Just FYI for new patients: GPS tells you to turn left into some random lane about a block before the entrance. You have to turn left into St. Francis Hospital and park in the structure. OFFICE: Very easy to find in the St. Francis Medical plaza, and ample parking make coming to the dentist a breeze, just take a ticket on the large parking garage and they validate. Clean, no weird smells, or cramped spaces. STAFF: All of the staff are friendly, knowledgeable,and helpful. They actually answer the phone A+++! MAKING AN APPOINTMENT: They have slots available, and when I needed to get in to get a previous dentist's filling fixed, they got me an appointment in a timely manner. They actually ask you how you want to be contacted for reminders. I can rarely answer the phone and despise checking voicemail, so being able to get an email, or check my texts is a huge bonus. DENTIST: Professional, yet kind. From the very beginning he starts collecting data on your face and mouth to build a lasting patient/doctor relationship, he isn't just herding people in and out and fleecing them for their cash. Explains everything up front, and works with what will work best for your mouth and your budget. Impeccable service. BILLING: Reasonable rates, knowledge about procedure costs, worked with me on fixing a filling. Most importantly him and the staff are able to tell you UP FRONT before the procedure so that you can know what you are getting into. My old dentist retired and I needed to find a dentist for a tooth ache. I was referred by a close friend of mind, and Dr. Ching is by far the best dentist I ever had. He is the only dentist that is extremely thorough in his exams and took the time to explain to me about my teeth and gums. His technique when he was giving me an injection, was pain free. I couldn't feel the needle penetrating, and the filling that he did not give me any problems...His office is up to date with technology, no more of that cardboard like X-rays that use to dig into my mouth, which I always use to dread having yearly, it's all digital X-rays, hallelujah to that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Staff is always friendly and accommodating, Marie the office manager and Neelam front office personnel, along with his staff are so friendly and accommodating. My family and I have been seeing Dr. Ching for more than 20 years are he is the best dentist you could ever hope for. He is always so very patient and kind with all of your concerns, and is also amazingly generous with his time if and when your dental needs get complicated. His staff couldn't be sweeter and when I got married almost four years ago I convinced my future husband to change over to Dr. Ching which he still agrees was a great decision. To say "I'm terrified of dentists" is an understatement! I don't usually like to see them! I had unpleasant experiences in the past! But not with Dr. Paul Ching. Let me start with his staff. They are all very polite, pleasant, respectful, and know their job so well. Then there comes the office it's not cluttered and they respect your privacy. Then of course Dr. Paul Ching just the first site of him while I was still in the waiting room and he was in the staff's area I already felt comfortable! My first impression was "I'll be in good hands". He just has this very reassuring face. I was actually embarrassed with how ugly my teeth were but he and his staff were not condescending! I had a very thorough examination and it was not painful the whole time! After that he explained to me what happened to my teeth. He spent a long time discussing my dental problems providing me with very good patient education! I learned a lot from him. He is very smart, professional, very knowledgeable but most of all he makes you feel at ease and makes your dental experience not too scary after all! Before I came to Dr. Ching my fear of dentists was more than 10/10 now it's 0/10 for Dr. Ching! I will definitely recommend him to all of you especially those who had unpleasant experience with dentists in the past and who are looking for The Good ONE! He is referring me to an Endodontist for a root canal. I asked him to just do it but he said I had to see this specialist so my fears are up there somewhere again but he reassured me with this specialist and told me if I have problems with this other one to tell him right away!
