My experience with this real estate company is one full of red flags, from the get-go! As a cash paying customer, I proceeded along the usual application process, and seemed very happy and confidant about my new purchase. For me, the final inspection was the biggest disappointment, in that, nails were showing halfway out of the shingled roof, which, to me, would eventually require replacing the roof relatively shortly, and after the one year warranty had expired. The dishwasher was leaking onto the floor, the microwave oven door wouldn't shut, the sliding glass doors would not latch. There were multiple hook-up deficiencies with the outdoor faucets, and the vent system did not properly clear the roof. Needless to say, the inspection failed, badly, and I cancelled the contract. I was deeply offended by this group for having months to prepare this home for me, and they didn't even take the time to enter the premises to pre-inspect. Please take my advice, and steer clear of this company! read more

My husband and I recently worked with the Paul Kaplan group and had an absolutely miserable experience. The agent, Will, started off super strong. Then about a week into the process, it became abundantly clear that he was much more so on the side of the buyer than ours, as the sellers. The agency repped the buyers as well as us and for whatever reason, we wound up feeling like the hated stepkids throughout the entire selling process once we approved their offer. We couldn't believe the attitude we were given on a daily basis by the agent and had multiple uncomfortable, arguments with him during the process whereby I found myself repeatedly asking: "Whose side are you on? Ours or theirs?" I got the feeling that he was being pressured by his boss to just 'get the deal done' so they could collect the commission from both parties which is exactly what wound up happening. My husband and I are still convinced he undervalued our house and cost us thousands of dollars lost on the purchase of our furnishings - which were also sold as part of the sale of the house. All in all a horrible experience and I'd NEVER ever recommend this agency to anyone. I have no idea how they have 41 positive reviews - I can only help but think they were written by people whose deals weren't negotiated by Will, or where the Paul Kaplan Group didn't rep both the buyer and seller. This 5 star review on Michael Slate is well deserved and long over due! My husband and I ran into Michael when he was relatively new to the real estate world and also moon lighting as a server at Tropical. We exchanged small talk as he asked if we were locals or visitors. We were visitors at the time and explained that we hoped to move here in 4 - 5 years. Michael gave us his card and said if we ever needed a realtor to keep him mind. The 4 - 5 years was ramped up and happened in about 3 years. During that 3 year period, we would frequently come down to Palm Springs for an extended weekend or a longer vacation. Each time that we came down we would be in touch with Michael in advance of coming down. He would take us to various open houses on the market at the time all over the valley so that it would help us narrow down where we wanted to land for our retirement home. Though we have always been the type that we will do much of our research on line in advance of working with a realtor, we still needed Michaels input and wisdom which is stellar for the Coachella Valley. We used Michael's services for both our retirement home and to relocate my mom from the Northwest. Though we were able to actually locate both homes on our own, we still used Michael and his team for the entire process. Michael is extremely knowledgeable of the market in the area. He is very upbeat with energy and passion for his work that shows with every form of interaction during the process. For both transactions, Michael was there for every step of the way, going out of the way to take pictures and videos of our new home that was being built and then sending them to us as we were putting closure to our full time jobs in the Bay Area. My wife Sheri and I vacation in Palm Springs about 4 or 5 times a year. On our way back to Los Angeles, where we live, we stopped by the office to get some flyers on properties. We just pick them up to look at the fine mid-century properties that are in the surrounding area. We planned to eventually retire to the area, but not for a while. She was looking at the flyers outside of the office and Michael Slate came out, introduced himself, and they spoke for about 10 minutes. He said that if we were ever interested in buying a property, to contact him. Well, to make a long story short, my wife always feels a little bit sad every time we leave Palm Springs. I suggested we look at a condo as a nice retreat and as an income source. She called Michael and he promptly set up some listings for us to look at. Since we are about a 2 hour drive away, Michael scheduled them for a Saturday and we made a day trip out there. About four days later, I saw a listing for a unit not far from one we had just seen, called Michael and he checked it out. His report back was instrumental in us deciding on this unit, as he knew what we wanted to every last detail. We actually placed the offer before seeing the unit, came down and toured the property, and confirmed our choice. Once escrow began, Michael showed us what a fantastic realtor he is with his attention to detail, and always staying in touch with us via e-mail or text. After months of emailing, where Kris was very responsive, and patient with my ADD-ish style of real estate search, I came down to PS for a weekend to see some properties. In the heat of the summer, Kris stuck with me to see 12 properties in a weekend! She was honest when I saw a property on MLS which looked good to me but was not a good deal - she provides good reasons for properties she does not recommend, and provides detailed information when she makes a recommendation. Kris went above and beyond the call of duty when she went and took video of a house we almost bid on sight unseen to help me see what it looked like - and she got to know my style so well, that I ended up making an offer on a place without seeing it and am in Escrow now, based solely on Kris' recommendation. We worked with Will Paine on purchasing a condo in Palm Springs. He definitely had his work cut out for him with what we were looking for and he took our very specific wants and needs and helped us find the exact right place we were hoping for. As we were in escrow, we found the unit had a major leak (two leaks actually) and he was really a hero in coordinating the repairs with the listing agent and the HOA. COVID will not be a license to use as an excuse to continue to behave dishonorably. These people are greedy and operate selfishly and dishonorably. Please stop giving them your business. It's time for a behavior change and this money over morals and ethics mentality needs to end. I called left a msg of course someone called me back. It was Molly, I told her I had an agent currently but she wasn't local and I thought that might be some of the reason it wasn't selling. I told her I was also considering upgrading the floors to help, but that I wanted her to see it. Molly quickly agreed that my agent not being local was a contributing factor. She stated that she couldn't look until the contract was canceled. No problem, we end the call with a definitive plan for her to call me Sunday at 5pm. That day and time comes and no call from Molly. I wait a few hrs and txted her that we had a plan to speak and asked what happened. She responds w/excuses based on lies. All of a sudden I was supposed to call her, seriously the ease with which the excuses and lies came makes her a natural. She proceeds to explain how unfortunately she can't take the listing because she took on 2 more listings this weekend, AFTER we talked. Completely selfish and dishonorable. I called and left a msg and of course this time no one called me back. They don't deserve their success if this is how they do business, stop giving it to them. Shame on you guys read more
