Horrendous office staff. It took months to schedule an epidural as referred by my spine surgeon because "Dr Kim still hasn't reviewed the referral". I finally got the appointment after calling the office about a dozen times over many months. I finally got the epidural, and at the pointless follow up appointment somebody other than Dr Kim came in the room and rudely barked a bunch of questions at me and then left the room without making eye contact or introducing himself, or telling me that I'm free to go, that was the whole appointment. I still don't know who he was or what the point of the follow-up was, I never saw Dr Kim again. They sent me the wrong bill 6 months ago and I tried contacting their biller many times to speak to them about the bill. I can't get ahold of them on the phone, and I get zero responses to emails. They continue to send me the wrong bill every couple of months, and every time I try to contact them with no response. Finally after 6 months and many attempts at contacting them, I got a response saying: We're working on it and every time you contact us you get bumped to the back of the line so stop contacting us. But they keep sending me the wrong bill! The procedure occurred nearly a year ago and this is still not resolved. read more

BEWARE OF THIS PLACE! Dr. Insun Lee will lie and prolong your recovery especially if your dealing with a workers compensation case. She will make her own opinions and assumptions even if your stating to her your having certain pain in a certain area she will not listen and lie to get you discharged. Excessive pressure to schedule procedures, notes received are not matching up to what was discussed during visit, and then to be gas lit by a provider on top of it. Had a horrible situation after my 2nd opinion by this surgeon. Scare tactic and hi pressure forced me to rush for surgery at a hospital he recommended. We rushed there in a few hrs after meeting him and was assigned another surgeon, we were waiting for many hrs and that surgeon never called us or showed up at all! We asked the ER at the emergency where we were supposed to meet and they had NO RECORD of that person they told us. We then checked out and cancelled this humiliating situation and found much better care nd surgeon with UCSD that had integrity instead of this non serious surgeon with questionable integrity. I was referred Dr Kim by an orthopedist I highly respect. I fell and fractured my spine while traveling outside the US and had emergency surgery in Dubai. After 3 weeks in the hospital there receiving excellent care I needed follow up care when I was able to return home. It took 2 weeks to get an appointment. Meanwhile, I continued to do the PT exercises I was given in Dubai. When I saw him, I had a list of questions that I never got to ask, He basically just told me to stop doing any PT - - I was expecting to get a recommendation to a physical therapist here. He told me he was going to have to operate to take the rods out within the next six months, and that I wasn't to do any physical exercise at all except walk and possibly swim - - however, my incisions were not totally healed at the time so I didn't feel comfortable trying to go into a swimming pool. He made an appointment for a month away. After I was six weeks out of surgery. I started slowly doing a little bit of exercise-- basically the PT that I was given in Dubai,, but nothing crazy just to try to keep my body moving a little bit so that I could continue to function. I felt I was continuing to improve, however, slowly I began to notice there was a tingling in my left hip and leg, and eventually that turned into pain that in about a week's time got so intense that on a Saturday night that I called the office number and got another doctor that was On Call who put me on a steroid which did not help. That Monday I called the office and they put me on gabapentin. My appointment was on Tuesday, and at that point the pain was so intense that I couldn't even sit in the waiting room. I had to lay on the bench that was there. I saw the PA not the doctor, and she said she would prescribe hydrocodone. She also said she would order an MRI, but it would take quite a long while because it had to go through the insurance company and then it had to be scheduled. I was worried that something had gone wrong with the back surgery. We said we were willing to pay upfront for the MRI, but they had their system and I would have to wait. She made an appointment for two weeks later I waited all afternoon and called the pharmacy, and they had not received the prescription, so that evening I called back again for the on-call doctor and was able to get the prescription sent before the pharmacy closed. I took it for several days, but it was making me dizzy, shaky, and blurring my vision and a few days later, the pain was so intense that again we called at night and I spoke with Dr. Kim who sent me to the emergency room. It's sharp Grossmont. I was at least able to get the MRI done there, but it was a horrendous experience, and I would never want to go back. The MRI showed that there was no new damage because of the surgery, but no one was interested in trying to find out why I was in such intense pain. I was told to call Dr. Kim's office the next morning, which I did. Ended up, leaving a voicemail, and when I didn't get a call back, I called back later in the afternoon. Finally I got a call back from the PA in the evening by then my pain was so intense. I was in tears, and her only recommendation was to go back to the emergency room. She basically confessed that they had too many patients and they couldn't take care of all of them. Right now I'm searching for another doctor. I don't feel that I've gotten the care I need from them or that they had the time or the interest to try to find out why I'm in such extreme pain. My conclusion is, they have too many patients, and they don't have the time to deal with them . read more

I saw Dr. Insun Lee at Meta Sports and Pain Management (Dr. Paul Kim's Clinic). She was wonderful. My issue is with the staff at the Clairemont office. Rude and incompetent. At my first appointment, they asked for my insurance cards, which I provided and watched them photocopy - primary (Medicare) and secondary (Blue Shield) and I put them both on my intake form. After a month I started receiving bills and when I could not find any claims submitted to my secondary insurance, I asked the billing person about it. She said I didn't notify them of a secondary insurance. Then they started submitting duplicate claims to my secondary. But the worst part is the receptionist. She is just rude and seems very distracted with her phone and socializing with the other administrative staff - she treats patients like interruptions. When a very painful procedure to relieve chronic back pain failed, the doctor told me to call her as soon as I had an MRI done. I called to verify they had received my MRI results, the receptionist said they didn't have them. She didn't make any offer to follow-up. I called the imaging center who told me not only the date but the TIME when they were sent two days earlier. The imaging center sent them again without me even asking - great patient service. I called the doctor's office again and asked to have the doctor call me but was told that wasn't an option and I would need to wait the 2 weeks for the video follow up appt . When I insisted because the doctor had told me to call her and I was in a lot of pain, she put me on hold. Later the doctor called me and discussed another procedure. The Receptionist called me to schedule it for 5 days later and basically hung up on me as soon as I committed to the appointment. When I arrived for the 8:30 appointment at 8:00, AS INSTRUCTED, the only words that came out of the Receptionist's mouth were "It's going to be a while. I just want you to know that." So after an hour and a half of sitting in excruciating pain and watching other patients come and go, I asked her how much longer it would be, she said "a while". I asked if a while meant another 15 minutes or another hour, she told me that she had double booked me and would be seen when the doctor was done with her other patients. So basically I was being treated as a walk-in, which I had not been told. I thought TO MYSELF, So what was the point of having me show up 30 minutes early for an "8:30 appointment", when I basically didn't have an appointment? I thought about it for a minute an told her I was leaving and that she had been very rude. For someone who is dealing with people in pain, I experienced a surprising lack of empathy, respect and professionalism. read more

I'm sure Dr. Lee is a good physician, but I would never know as the staff who answer the phone does not seem to care about new patients. I was referred by my spine surgeon for an injection, but the first call made over a week ago was met with, (we haven't received your referral. Once we do we will call you". Ok, i get it. A week later I called and was told "still haven't received the authorization" Given I had the auth I faxed a copy and was told they'd call to schedule. 48 hours later no call so I called again... and they verified receiving the fax and I was told they hadn't processed it internally and I could expect a call "mid-to late next week". Really?? I should point out auth was granted over a week prior in the Sharp system. At this point given the run around I responded with this was unacceptable and I'd be seeking treatment elsewhere. Seems the front office staff do not care about potential new patients... nor ones that run medical practices in their own right and will be vocal about the sub-par treatment. Again, I'm sure Dr. Lee is very good but if you never get to see you, how would anyone know? Management and physicians should be aware their staff impact how they are perceived. read more

I never made it in the office.. got my referral- called to make an appt.. the girl who answered the phone seemed annoyed and said it takes about 3-5 days for referrals to be processed. I reluctantly accepted.. called back 7 days later only to be told by the same girl it would be another 7-10 days before they could schedule me as my referral was "pending". Meanwhile I was able to secure another referral from my doctor to another place- and they were able to get me in the next day and were A LOT more friendlier to deal with.. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!! I was weary about this place after reading the reviews but I was willing to give them a shot. I was completely baffled by what happened here... I called ahead to book an appointment due to an injury that took place from a car accident last year. I've been dealing with the pain for so long and finally had the courage to deal with it. The phone call to book the appointment was horrible on its own. Yes, I have phone anxiety but the receptionist that answered was very unprofessional. If you don't like your job that much, quit!! When my friend and I actually made it in for the appointment, Rebecca was horribly rude and told us to go "back to Mexico" because my friend's English wasn't perfect. I'm not a confrontational person but it took everything in me to not lash out and smack the lady. What in the actual frick? She works in the medical field and has this demeanor?? Best pain management in San Diego. I started as a person injury patient but once my case closed I became a cash patient. Their receptionist and medical assistants are so nice. I couldn't be more pleased with my care with Dr.kim. He and his staff not only have helped me scheduling my acupuncture/physical therapy appointments but helped me work with my Insurance to keep all procedures in office, saving me a lot of money.Their office manager Lynette was very helpful with my referral and was able to process my insurance information the same day. I was in so much lower back and right leg pain and numbness for a long time. After MRI my L3-L4-L5 had bulging discs. I was referred here and what great service. Had my appointment scheduled quickly and was recommended for the epidural shot in my lower back. Dr. Kim and his team explained everything very thoroughly and made you feel very comfortable and at ease. I came in the very next day for the shot and wow what success in just one day. The pain was almost gone and just a little numbness around the knee, but that all went away after a week. I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Kim's office. The admin staff emailed me the paperwork ahead of time and I was able to fill it out ahead of time. I didn't have any problems finding his office. I didn't have to wait long, and the front desk staff was very friendly.. Dr. Kim was very through in explaining what would happen during the procedure and answered my questions. You can really tell by the comments which ones Paul Kim had posted vs actual patient reviews here. My name is Bianca Petruzzella, and I was a brief patient of this so called Dr. Kim in 2013. I've been suffering from an incurable condition called idiopathic intracranial hypertension, aka psuedotumor ceribri. You may have heard this on tv with more and more class action suits of this condition being caused by more and more drugs. The FDA has warned doctors of using these drugs but doctors like Kim disregard the warnings and continue to use these drugs risking people's lives! But my case is not "idiopathic" as is was caused by Kims frivolous use of a steroid called kenalog that was warned against spinal use. Not only that, but he missed the target and shot this drug into my spinal fluid where it made it's way to my brain. Someplace this steroid is not supposed to go because of his incompetance. I have lost severe vision loss, hearing loss, suffer from all the same symptoms of a brain tumor, cognitive issues and nerve damage from his mistakes. Most people dont think to ask what drugs exactly are used in epidural steroid injection especially when you have a doctors playing off that the procedure is nothing to fear and so ordinary. My biggest mistake other than trusting Kim. I was never warned that my life as I knew it would be murdered! He took away the life as I knew it! I was put on disability for this debilitating condition at a young age of 36 years old. The trauma is indescribable on how it is to cope with having your life taken away as Kim took mine from me. And never one was he even sorry for what he has done to another human being that trusted their life in his hands. I have been fighting for justice in this matter since 2013 and never once has Kim cared about taking responsibility for his frivolous actions. Never once has he cared to own up! Just like another review stated he "ran never to be seen again", the same thing happened to me. He has a track record of this behavior. He wouldn't even respond to phone calls when I was having seizures every 20 minutes on the clock 1 week after the procedure. Kim is nothing but a monster and falls beyond short of a caring human being nor is he a professional in any manner. His office is dirty with what looks like blood dripping down the cabinets. And most of all he is nothing but a typical personal injury lawyer that does unnecessary procedures to fulfill his lawyer friends wishes. As other have stated, he alters medical records and lies on his records. He needs to be stopped! I have hard copy proof of all my claims. I had an unfortunate failure of an attorney who fought for me for 4 years until he was suspended temporarily from practicing law where he abruptly ha to withdraw from my case leaving me to fend for myself with no representation. I made the heartfelt decision to refuse a settlement offer from Kim's attorney requesting my silence in return for a waiver of legal costs. I will not go silent and will risk all lawsuits Kim is threatening me with. That's who this doctor is! Someone who is frivolous, is not competant, lies and then threatens to when he does you wrong. He has not once shown an ounce of responsibility in this matter not even when I was crying on his procedure table where he ran away or any call begging for help when the symptoms of his failed acts happened so fast and severe. This is THE BEST unprofessional medical office I have ever been to. Zero star?? Nope!!! Not even worthy. Wish they could have negative star. The most reason that make me so frustrated is the way they work and treat me. No respect, no honest and care. I know you are a surgeon and I just have a little disc bulge, but not because that is just little bulge, it's considered as idiopathic and I have been treated with lacking of cared and attention from you doctor Kim!! Great Doctor, I went to Dr. Kim to have a steroid injection in my lower back, I had a slipped disc in my back and the injection was supposed to help, well the disc was cracked and fragmented, the injection did not work on my back, but then Dr. Kim immediately requested a MRI for my lower back which lead to my latest back operation. Thanks to Dr. Kim I am out of my wheelchair. I would still be in a wheelchair if it was not for the greatest Doctor in San Diego. My surgeon is also fantastic. But this review is about Doctor Kim. This is the most unprofessional medical office I have ever been to. The staff members are very young woman, very unprofessional Takes a long time for them to get your insurance authorization and then longer to get an appointment. When you are in pain, that is intolerable. The injections into my spine - 3 at different places - were done with almost no interaction with the doctor who is extremely impersonal. Only one shot helped. Then I never got any bills but had a collection agency start harassing me to pay them. We sent a check through our bank, which then notified us that it had never been cashed. I called and was told by one of the office girls that sometimes Dr. Kim picks the checks up and doesn't always remember to document them or put them in the bank. I finally resorted to giving a credit card number over the phone just to stop the harassment, but feel that was not the safest way to go. Do NOT use this pain management office! You hardly ever see Dr. Kim, it is almost always the nurse. Everyone there is treated like cattle. In and out of his office in 5 minutes or less. The only thing he ever did was fill my prescriptions which did not even manage my pain. I am at another Dr. now, who seems interested and concerned, and is working with me to try injections in my back. My biggest complaint is the staff! They are rude, and they constantly mess up with paperwork and billing. My referral to them ran out, but they did not tell me, and they did not try to turn it into my insurance for 4 months. They continued to let me come in for appointments without telling me that I was not covered by my insurance. Now they are billing me a ton of money, and refuse to see they are in the wrong. dont waste your time here at all. i went there a few times, you dont get to him , only the nurse most time. They kept messing up the paperwork and the medication. The doctor and his nurse only wants to hear what he wants to hear and wrote down what he wants to write instead of the accuracy. The doctor bedside manner is polite at least. my pain was not properly managed whatsoever. i have gone elsewhere and it is much better. this practice could improve on: accuracy on documents, face time with doctors and options of treatments and explanations. i did not get an choice on treatment options or the pros and cons on each. i have seen better doctors that managed my pain better elsewhere. i hope by now he is better with patients. read more

This may be one of the worst physicians in San Diego County. If you are a patient who experiences any amount of pain or chronic pain, please heed this as a warning and choose another physician for your care. First and foremost, dr. Paul Kim is not qualified to treat or evaluate patients with pain. On your first visit, if he does even take the time to enter the room to see you, it will only be for a period of five minutes and no more. There is no physical exam and you will only be seen either by a nurse or his PA. In the. Of minutes that you do have a face-to-face encounter with him, he will try to sell you or lead you into non-essential procedures -i.e.- spinal cord stimulators, etc. He will make these recommendations without ever viewing your chart, doing a physical examination, reviewing any recent Imaging or having your full medical history in his possession. He's basically doing this to line his pockets with as much money as he possibly can and charging either you or your insurance twice as much as what he would normally get from a patient visit. The staff, receptionist, billing is also a complete nightmare. They are Unprofessional, and their billing should be deemed as not only immoral, unethical, but illegal! They will charge you, double charge you and bill you for unnecessary procedures, visits and for procedures that never even occurred. Magically, documents and bills will magically disappear when they are confronted about it. They will have no recollection of ever sending those bills and they disappear from your file. Dr. Paul Kim is not up to par and lacks training in regards to opioid prescriptions. His staff will make every attempt to force you into taking what are unconstitutional drug screening urine tests. Again, you will billed with re-bill with hefty fees for these tests. These are tests that the ACLU has deemed as unconstitutional and violates a patient's Fourth Amendment rights. If this office or dr. Kim or his staff makes any attempt to force you into taking these tests without reason or suspicion, contact an attorney and the ACLU. This is illegal! If you are a patient who suffers from pain or chronic pain, this is not the physician that you need for your care. I was expecting a call from his office to schedule an injection, but after 3 days, I heard nothing. So I called and left a message with a very rude receptionist who told me I had to talk to Rozy. She then said that Rozy wasn't there, but would have her call me back. Next day, I still hadn't heard from anyone about scheduling my injection, so I called again. Finally I scheduled my consultation. I showed up early, with my new client paperwork in hand. 30 minutes after my appt time I was still waiting. I was then told I had more paperwork to sign, I especially LOVED the Worker's Comp Lien they wanted me to sign with NOTHING filled in, not even my name! After waiting even longer, only to have the office manager tell me I had to sign or I wouldn't be seen, I signed against my will. I ended up getting the injection that day, after waiting more of course. And when I left, not a single person said goodbye, not the doctor when I walked by his office or any of the delightful front staff. I admit I was kind of a witch by the time I had to sign paperwork I wasn't comfortable with signing, but still... I wish I had rescheduled with a different office. Dr Kim was ok, but I think any doctor could have done the injection, without the hassle of an inconsiderate staff. The MA that assisted was nice though. GO ELSEWHERE read more

Patients see the PA more than the Dr. I'm a Work comp/ pain pt & when I had questions about the neurostimulator he was forcing me to get in my neck. He fired me as a pt. I asked for better communication between us, that must have really pissed him off! read more

I disagree with some prior posts; Dr. Kim and PA are both very caring and good. They are more than willing to do whatever paperwork is necessary to get treatment plans approved. OK, it's a busy practice and things fall through the cracks like all practices, and those in pain are probably more sensitive, but it gets done. Maybe the big office staff could use a bit of PR training and follow through on calls... I'm sure Pain mgmt is a difficult field for Dr. and those not getting "what they want" is not a reason to ding Dr. For doing his job responsibly. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Kim's for over 10 years. During that time, my pain, etc. has gone up, and down. I used to see Dr Kim for all of my appointments. However, the past couple of years, I see the P.A. If there is ever a question, the P.A. goes to check with Dr. Kim. For the past year, I have been getting injections. All of the paperwork is handled, I just have to show up. Everyone in the office is very helpful. I feel that they go way out of their way to help Dr. Kim's patients. There have been times, years ago, where the wait time was too long. However, Dr. Kim recognized the issue and fixed it. There might be a 5-10 minute wait, but I know at times my Appt. can go longer, so it all works out. Dr. Kim is professional, polite, knowledgeable and able to relate different medical options if necessary. It is wonderful to know that every month, when I visit Dr. Kim, I am greeted with a smile. Dr. Kim also provides email statements of each appointment. Dr. Kim can also be reached through this email system. I highly recommended Dr. Kim. I feel 100% confident that he has my best interests in mind when a medication is changed or the course of treatment is changed. My Attorney sent me to this doctor a few years ago.The first time I went to this doctor Dr.Kim was supposed to see me. But I saw his P.A Kevin who is not very friendly.Note my first appointment they were six hours late getting me in.They took my case but can't seem to fill out RFA's as per the work comp law.Each time I've went to the office I ask them to send them to my adjuster.I was told they have been sending them in. But my attorney found out they did not send one in since December of last year.This caused all medications to be denied.Because of this it sent me to the ER to get help.So today Dr Kim said to me he is not a paper work administrator. He told me that I would have to find another pain management doctor. He also said if the adjuster denies my medication I would be on my own. Stay away from this office and tell your attorney to find someone else.This doctor knew how much paper work was needed to be done. He WILL NOT FIGHT FOR YOU.RUN RUN FAR AWAY FROM HIM. I have spoken with other doctors about him and this is his M O !!!!! Because of him medication keep being denied because of his lack of professionalism ! read more
