After a good wash and dry by Rolly to look presentable and get the product out of my hair.

I struggle with how to review this, because after all it is a school. However being a school, I expected more involvement from the instructors. Lesson learned do NOT make appointments for Fridays. My first appointment was on a Friday and the instructor NEVER came to check on the student. The only time the instructor got involved was when I asked after things went horribly wrong. After nearly 7 hours and 3 attempts at processing my hair... I left with green hair. That being said, the front desk staff were understanding and helped make arrangements to correct the issue. I came back the following Wednesday to get it fixed. This time 3 instructors consulted to ensure we fixed the green without damaging my hair any further. The instructors also checked in every step of the way. Roxanne was attentive and ensured I knew exactly what she was doing.

I still can't believe that for $38, I got a haircut AND color AND highlights. I usually spend $35 at Scissorhands just to get a haircut alone. What a deal! And the catch? Well, this is a training school. Key is to get a good referral so thanks to Tulie L and Katrina D, I made a reservation with Julie Barnes. I am very happy with the results - and I highly recommend her :) Set your expectations this is a training school so allot a few hours if you want highlights and/or color. For me, it took about 2 hrs for highlights, 1 hr for color (if you need to cover up the white hairs like me), and another 1 hr for haircut & blow dry. I didn't mind the waiting - it was kinda entertaining to watch the other students practice cutting hair on the "heads on a stick". There is definitely a range of levels so again, you'd probably want to get a recommendation rather than just go with anyone. Check out the attached photo which has prices current as of 8/4/09. And bring cash for tipping!!

Ok, so here's the thing.......... My hair dresser in LA is TITS, SHUT UP! SO GOOD(See my SalonPURE LA review for the down and dirty details)! With such high expectations, you might wonder why I decided to head to a student-y training type facility to have my locks cut..... Well, my hair dresser in LA was educated at a PMTS in LA and advised me that when I was looking for a hair dresser here that I could probably find a student to hook me up. After speaking with the receptionist and telling her my needs in a "future professional" she picked the perfect student for my needs. I keep my hair short in the back, and long in the front, I have thick hair so I need someone who isn't afraid to get IN IT, while she was a bit timid at first, under the watchful eye of her instructor she was able to finally get in and make the hair cut hers. The wash was fantastic, the style was wonderful, and I think I was able to find a stylist who will be able to handle my needs, and my attitude, and my jokes. The school is what you can expect, all mod and minimal, the hipster version of salons, but the service is wonderful. I have even been able to wrangle my father, and difficult guy friends into a chair. And the general consensus is that for under 20 bucks, its an awesome haircut, especially with all the fine ass around. Shut up. So good, do it.

Back of my head. Subtle highlights, like I wanted.

Mary O'Shea did my highlights and I highly recommend her. (She graduates in Nov. 2019, so get her before she goes!) For a grand total of $40 ($30 + tip), I walked away with exactly what I asked for: subtle, beautiful highlights on my brunette hair. Assuming you get a colorist as good as Mary, this place is a balancing act between cost and time. My appointment was at 12:30; I didn't leave until 5:30. Fortunately, I had a free afternoon and needed to finish a book I'd been procrastinating on. Mary is delightful, communicative and meticulous, and her supervisor, Mary Alex, was the same.

Why is this location so hard to find? Where exactly is it?

Agreed; it is hard to find based on street address. Helps to know that it's located in the King Plow Arts Center. If you approach from the south, take the first (right) turn into the center, drive just a few feet directly toward the salon, then turn…

They have maybe 2 students that can do them but I haven't been able to catch them in the Saturdays I go. The barber side definitely need improvement. Everytime my husband go get his hair cut the instructor have to cut it because no one knows how to cut. I do understand that this is a school and it's a learning process for us all but usually when you start attending a beauty school is the enhance your skills and add more, these people seems to just say I want to go to a school and but not learning what the instructors teach. I found out about this student from a client think that this would be the perfect start for me to get my license but when I say I was WRONG. The communication is horrible once you pay Ms Dee her communication stop if it's something important you have to hound her dog and even then she makes you feel like your a bother. I had text her about the zoom link for orientation multiple times nothing luckily I knew someone who got the link and she sent it me. My first week of class YOU won't start from chapter 1 you start where ever they last left off. YOUR teaching yourself the book because ms Tish doesn't teach book work, she very RUDE when it comes to us self taught nail tech & looks down at you. I paid $175 for a kit and it didn't even look like it was worth $50, the nail glue was dried up, I got 1nail file, 1 buffer, a cheap ass while that broke the first day I tried to use it. I end up still having to go to the store and buying my own stuff which I might add was $100 over what I spent for the kit. If the school is going on a field trip or having any type of activity outside of school hours you have to pay (okay cool) but if you do decide to do anything with you understand that your paying for your hours with is legal. I shouldn't be paying $30 for a SPA DAY for two family or friend member and in return you give me 25 credit hours. If you look Deedria Chauntee on the state board site her license is expired HOW you teaching classes with license. If you look up the school it's not even in names and it's ONLY 3 instructors have their license and that was cosmetology (2) & and a barber. So MS TISH talking about she been in the nail 30 plus years where is your license ms ma'am !!!!! I understand it's cheap and it looks good on PAPER but babbbbbbyyyyyy PLEASE DO NOT go to this school. State-board really need to shut this school down NOTHING is up to code. And when you say something to her instead of her trying to fit or address the issue she kicks you out of school for NO REASON at all

I frequent beauty schools not for discounted services, but because I value education, innovation, and seeing the next generation of professionals develop. However, my experience at Empire Beauty School at Northlake on Henderson Mill Rd. in Atlanta raises serious concerns about leadership, training culture, and professional standards. In a nutshell, it's a total mess over there! From the front desk to several instructors, there is a noticeable lack of accountability, communication, and customer service. The only professional and solution-oriented educator I encountered was Jasmine, who immediately addressed an issue and took corrective action when no one else would. She was the only positive point in this experience. My concerns largely stem from, and are centered with the transgender instructor at this location (the only one there, and therefore clearly identifiable to management). To be clear, my issue is not their identity, but their conduct which was unprofessional and far below the standards expected in a training institution. The behavior of this particular instructor is deeply concerning and in my opinion, warrants IMMEDIATE corrective action. I booked my first appointment for makeup a month in advance. Upon arrival, this same instructor said "I should have called again" to confirm staffing, which is a requirement that was never communicated to me. And instead of being accommodated, I was turned away, despite the error being on the school. No effort to problem-solve was made. When I returned for the rescheduled appointment, there were last minute changes to products and timing. Despite arriving late, but within the window they required, it became clear that time was limited. I conceded to just getting my lashes done, but CeCe was willing to work quickly. She had clear concerns with the products, but she worked around it. Later that evening, she texted me asking for a tip to which I provided. We exchanged text communications regarding product use and I booked another session to give her more time to use the schools products for additional practice. However, I then received an unexpected call from that same teacher telling me my appointment would not be honored, citing an issue that was never communicated by the student nor noticed during our previous interactions. It felt disorganized, inconsistent, and quite frankly, unprofessional. While CeCe initially appeared professional, the inconsistency between what she communicated to me versus what her instructor claimed is concerning. It comes across as vacillating and potentially a bait-and-switch situation. I wholeheartedly believe Empire should consider modifying student selection and training processes. Revenue is important but immaturity is expensive. I wouldn't roll the dice on liability. Additionally, there were hygiene lapses by the instructor during a lash application demonstration. In a licensed traing institution, proper sanitation is non-negotiable. Hygiene should never be an afterthought. This instructor's hands were dirty and I could smell them! The school urgently needs stronger leadership. The director sets the tone for training, talent development and service standards. Right now, the environment lacks structure, consistency, and professionalism. With appropriate oversight and truly professional educators, this school could operate at the level the industry requires. As it stands, it does not.

Here is my experience with LS Acting Studio's Lucky 7 Convention…read more I want to start by saying that the acting instructors were kind, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful. The classes themselves were informative. However, with only one two-hour class per week and a large number of students, there wasn't enough time to receive meaningful individual coaching. At the convention, Louis even acknowledged that one class a week wasn't much time before encouraging students to purchase additional classes at a discounted rate. That left me feeling like the limited schedule encouraged students to continue spending more money. In my experience, Louis became visibly upset whenever something went wrong or wasn't done exactly the way he wanted. I and several other students felt as though we were treated like children. We were often provided with candy and junk food rather than meals that felt appropriate for adults attending a professional convention. There would be moments when he would ask us to join him in prayer, and then, moments later, he would be snapping at the group or singling out an individual, sometimes using profanity because he disagreed with something someone said or did. For someone who preached so much about kindness and respect, I found this behavior to be very contradictory. It also seemed that he wanted to control every aspect of the program. Students didn't appear to be encouraged to disagree or voice concerns. Instead of addressing issues privately to better understand a situation or clear up possible misunderstandings, he often addressed students publicly. I watched him call out multiple students in front of everyone, putting them on the spot. It made many people, including myself, uncomfortable, and even some staff members appeared visibly uncomfortable with how those situations were handled. Another thing that stood out to me was that staff members would sometimes report students' concerns, comments, or observations about their demeanor, and those students would later be called out publicly. It created an environment where it felt like you couldn't openly express concerns without worrying they would be repeated or addressed in front of everyone without having the opportunity to explain your perspective. After criticizing students' reactions to who did and didn't receive callbacks, he then turned around and announced that everyone had received a callback. I found that confusing and emotionally unnecessary. Not everyone processes disappointment the same way. Just because someone isn't outwardly celebrating another person's success doesn't mean they're jealous or unsupportive. Sometimes people are simply processing their own disappointment after investing so much time, money, and effort. I also struggled to reconcile the message of encouragement with the way some students were treated. Louis commended everyone for making it to the Lucky 7 Convention despite the obstacles each person may have overcome to get there, yet the atmosphere often felt more critical than supportive. Regardless of a student's experience or background, everyone deserves to be treated with respect. Overall, I left feeling that the environment relied more on public criticism than constructive coaching. While I appreciated the instructors, I personally don't feel the overall experience justified the cost. In my opinion, much of what the program offers can be learned through other acting classes, self-study, and consistent practice without experiencing that type of treatment.
