I was told my hair was thin and limp, and could not stand up

So here's the thing. I went to Najha three times. My hair never looked good, it never looked anywhere near what it look like in her videos and the whole experience was just incredibly disappointing. I decided to wait to leave a review to see if maybe we just started on the wrong foot but after 3 visits im done. So here's what happened. I waited almost a year to get an appointment with her because she wasn't accepting new clients when she called me and told me I could come in, I was thrilled. Appointment #1 I arrived 15 minutes early and then sat there for 45 additional minutes before she started my hair. No apology know nothing. I just sat there silently for 45 minutes waiting. One of the things I don't like is when a stylist puts me under the dryer for too long and dries my hair out. My hair was dry 20 minutes before the dryer turned off and then I sat there for another 30 minutes waiting for her. By the time I left I'd been there for three hours and 15 minutes. I missed my second appointment and my hair looked horrible. She informed me that my hair was thin and fine. My hair is not thin and it's not fine. Here's a picture of what my hair looks like at my previous stylist and how my hair looked with Najah. She put tons of hairspray in it which cause it to be dry. I told her I did not want sheen because it makes my hair flat. She put it in my hair anyway. I literally don't need anything on my hair but she insisted I did, and this is what I got. I told her I did not want the top of my haircut because I was trying to let it grow out and she cut it quite short. I told her not to cut the gray streak in the front, she cut it . I don't even know what the $50 consult was for. Appointment #2. This time I told her don't put ANYTHING at all of my hair no matter what and don't flip it up. Instead style down so that way she could just see that my hair did not need product. I thought that was the easiest thing in the world and if she knew what she was doing then my hair would look beautiful. It looked better but nothing at all like those videos. Honestly, it looks like a grandma. I've been to my previous stylist at least 50 times and it looked beautiful and bouncy every time. Not with Najha Appointment # 3. First she called me the day before my third appointment and rescheduled it for the following week because of some clerical error. Then she called me the day before the rescheduled appointment and asked me to come in an hour later. I tried to be totally flexible so I told her I had an appointment in Acworth at 1 o'clock so I had to be out of her salon no later than 12:15 so as long as she committed to do that then I could come at 10:15 per her request. I arrived at 10:14 for my 1015 appointment and she strolled in at 10:45 with no apologies. I was immediately stressed. She didn't even try to comfort me and say "don't worry I'm gonna get you out on time. At noon I was still sitting in the chair waiting to be curled. I went to her and I said I really have to get out of here and she was like "I know I'm almost there" or something. Bottom line is I miss my appointment. She did apologize but immediately blamed it on her doctor. THEN She was like that'll be $135. She didn't even ask me if she cost me any money but we have an a missed that appointment. She didn't appear to care. The bottom line is this she doesn't really seem to be passionate about what she does. This is clearly just a job. That happy, smiling person in the videos creating beautiful hair.....I never met that person. The customers are not first, the customer service is bad. There was one other girl there, who was leaving her station constantly to answer the phone. She was very helpful and washed me while Najha was late. But they clearly need a receptionist. I don't know what's up with those videos, but I also noticed that a few of the really dope haircuts from the videos are also on her wall, so I don't know if they're a fluke or from 10 years ago or what. Clearly, she knows how to cut hair but my hair is very easy to do. I can make it bouncy and fluffy myself. I can make it stand up with a tight curl, and I can put hold on it to keep it that way, but for some reason she wasn't able to do any of that. Plus she's really over priced. She had no respect for me, my business or my time. The days of me sitting in a salon for an hour waiting on somebody to show up or being there. Three hours and my hair looking average went out of style 20 years ago. I gave it a shot, but this was definitely a waste of time. On the only positive note, she didn't gossip and wasn't negative like some hairstylist. And the other girl who works there seems really sweet and it's clean and the music was nice but as for the hair, none of it was worth my time.

You will not find a better place to get your hair done. Your appointment starts as scheduled. Everyone is super friendly. The stylist are the best in their field. Christina (my stylist) is a phenomenal colorist.

I'm not ecstatic about this "cut" or better yet trim. Back to the Bay I go.

I'm visiting from Cali (Bay Area) I just got a relaxer and cut a week ago. Saw this place on IG and I only wanted a wash and style. The atmosphere is nice (2 stars), the stylist greets me and we discuss my hair style (1 star) and the young lady who shampoo'd & wrapped my hair was great (2 stars). I sat under the dryer for a while. My stylist (Shoshanna) came and took the wrap strips off and I sat under for a few minutes until the dryer cut off.....I was under there waiting for every bit of 15 minutes. She comes to get me and we go to her chair. She says she'll trim a little off bc it's a bit lifeless. Which I understand bc my hair is like that with a relaxer it thickens up in about 2 weeks. I'm like cool, she's cutting and cutting. I'm thinking there's not much to cut bc I just got a cut last week. She tells me whoever cut my hair did it in a man's cut. Not feminine and cut off too much in the back. I agreed with the back and was a lil ehhh with the feminine part. Nonetheless when she finished I wasn't like ahhhhh haaaa. It was like oh okay. It looks okay. When I called last week for an appointment, I was informed it was $60 for a wash and style. The receptionist says $100 for a cut and style. (- 3 stars) I'm like what? A cut? Maybe a trim and that's reaching. I'm not happy with the price and services rendered. I almost want to call my bank bc I feel ripped off. She didn't "cut" much especially not $40 worth. I'll call my bank for the charges. If I come back, I'll only come for the owner and the shampoo lady with the cute blonde hair.

First time customer and I absolutely adore my haircut! Dani, did an amazing job! She was knowledgeable, attentive and made me feel so comfortable with my 1st haircut! Dani has gained a new client and the overall appearance, vibe and customer service was stellar! I'll definitely recommend and be returning to Like the River!

Absolutely love this place! The atmosphere is inviting, and service is top notch. Never had typical urban salon issues here: talking on the phone while styling, loud, double-booking appointments causing you to be here all day, etc... One problem: Appointments! If you do not book at least one week in advance, you will not be able to book an appointment with anyone. They are super busy, and all stylist slots fill up fast! However if you are looking for a stylist in particular, Tameka is great! She is very knowledgeable and can cut hair like no other.

Like the River Salon is more than just a salon. It's a place to enjoy good company with very professional and courteous service. The atmosphere is very nice and the stylists are so good at styling hair that it is never a second thought about returning. Regina has been my hair stylist at the salon for a year and I always look forward to seeing her. She is professional, polite, timely, and my hair cut/style is always a head turner each week. In a city like Atlanta where there are hundreds of stylists and therefore numerous options, its a pleasure to be a part of a salon that is a front runner in the business! Kisha H.

Hair by Toitti I promise this picture doesn't do the style any justice.

I really like this salon and I didn't want to start the search all over. The handoff was seamless. Great decision. Please understand that what I'm about to say is overwhelming positive: this wonderful woman is a BEAST in the hair game. Full of life. Great communicator and hair educator. Wonderful with her hospitality. Treated me with gentility but also with confident hands. She did multitask on another client during my appointment, but I was A-OK with that given that I wasn't her original client and it didn't really burden my appointment's timeline. I appreciated the thoroughness and attention to detail nonetheless. LOVE the cut. I wish it didn't happen the way that it did, but I'm SURELY satisfied with her as my stylist moving forward. Extra perks: delicious and hot green tea served by Heather upon entry, a buzzy salon environment that doesn't get too loud yet also plays good music, complimentary WiFi, toilet seat covers with a clean restroom, a changing room with clean smocks.... WOW.

He's super friendly and is so great at conversation without being overwhelming. I've vented about a bunch of random problems and he's so insightful about everything. I really enjoy those conversations. Graham has an intern named Juniper who is also amazing. She'll typically be the one to blow out my hair after highlights. She is so sweet and fun to talk to. And you can tell that she really cares about doing a good job. And she does do a good job. And shoutout to Rob at the Midtown location for giving me bangs. I don't think I would love them so much if he weren't the one who cut them. They have free bangs trimmings here, so whenever I get my highlights done, I ask Rob to trim my bangs, and he does. He's very thoughtful about cutting hair. Especially with bangs. He will ask for pictures, and if you can't find any, he will pull up his own pictures on his iPad to help you figure out what you want. He also is an artistic genius and will recommend things that work with your facial structure better. I thought I wanted curtain bangs but he recommended a more straight cut of bangs, and I am so thankful he did. If you want a good haircut that makes you look like you can afford the best of the best (aka Rob), you need to see Rob. Even when my hair isn't blow dried or straightened or whatever, it looks amazing when I wake up and go to sleep. He gave me layers once and, if you'll believe it, it changed my social life for the better. Also he's very good at getting people to talk about their lives. Inquisitive and talented. If you have your own strong preferences and he recommends otherwise, you can still tell him what you prefer and he'll happily do it, but he knows so much about what looks good on different people, so I'd definitely listen to him. He's done my little teenage brothers' hair before and they appreciate him a lot too, which says a lot because they're picky teenage boys. They come home from the appointments with their heads held a little higher in confidence. I don't think it's possible to leave Van Michael Salon without your head held a little higher.

I hadn't considered that everyone has a different cutting technique and the description of the haircut that you've been getting consistently with one stylist may not be interpreted the same way by another stylist :( After the initial cut, one side was about 1-2 inches shorter than the other side. So then the end result was my hair being much shorter than I wanted in the first place. Much of it was dry cutting which can be so hit or miss depending on the stylist, and some texturing at the ends (which to me just made it worse... I prefer thick sharp ends) Love the color and I kept saying that but haircut wise, the more I look at it the worse I feel about it and it just complete takes away from the color since I will prob keep it up until it grows out. I've had the unfortunate experience of hair nightmares when I first moved to other cities. Somehow, the trend always seems to be that the second salon I try ends up being the perfect one for me...and Atlanta has been no exception to this. I first tried another salon nearby, which left me totally unhappy. They charged me a TON of money for serious roots and the tiniest of trims...which altogether took well over 3 hours even though my hair is barely past my ears?! Yikes. Anyhow, you get the point. I would have to return to hunting for another salon. In a fit of desperation, I did try a box dye to fix my roots but...it did not end well. I called around town, but stylists were either full up for the weekend or unwilling to book me until they scheduled a separate color-correction consult session. I then came across Urban Evolution, and it seemed to fit the bill: a local salon, all the cut-color-smoothing services that I like to use, reasonable pricing, quality products, and a range of stylists to pick from. Best of all: I was able to snag an appointment the next day with Erin! I later discovered that she was the salon owner. She did an amazing job! I never felt judged, rushed, or not listened to. She asked a lot of excellent questions, taking the time to really understand my hair and styling preferences. She was very easy to talk to throughout the appointment. I left feeling like myself again (only with better hair)! I can breathe a sigh relief knowing that I've found "my" salon here in Atlanta. I highly recommend Urban Evolution to anyone, and also definitely recommend Erin! I'm a very happy client. To close out my review, here are some of the pros and cons of Urban Evolution... PROS: They have online booking, which was a huge plus for me as I work a very busy job and don't always have time to call during business hours. I also like that their website has a "match" quiz to help our you with a stylist, which I've never seen before but very much appreciated. A very cool feature! The salon itself is beautiful, and the staff are professional and super friendly. I can tell that everyone goes the extra mile to make clients as comfortable and cared for as possible. They always offer me a beverage, for example. At my last visit, I was bemoaning how I could never figure out how to style my hair wavy. Not only did Erin show me, but she had another staff member film her doing it on a few sections of my hair, all the while explaining each step, and then texted me the video so I can use it to guide me at home. They use and sell quality products. They have Oribe and Davines, both of which are fantastic lines. I've started using Oribe Silverati shampoo/conditioner at Erin's suggestion and I'm now obsessed - it's really helped to improve the health of my hair (I do a lot of coloring and heat styling). The salon schedule allows for evening and weekend appointments, which is very helpful for folks who may work busy jobs and not be able to come in during traditional 9-5 weekday hours. The salon is situated on a street with a lot of yummy restaurants and cafes, so you could always come meet a friend before or after for brunch, lunch, or cocktails! I've tried several at the recommendation of Erin and other salon staff, and all have been excellent. I love supporting local business, so I see this as a "pro." CONS: I'd you've read this far and you're still not convinced, I guess I could say that the only potential "con" is maybe the parking. They have street parking, or for a few bucks you can use the parking lot for the woodworking shop across the street. But even then, to me this is a pretty weak "con" because I've never had any trouble finding a spot (I've literally parked right in front of the salon the last several times that I've been there). Go try Urban Evolution...like me, you won't regret it!
