You will not find a better place to get your hair done. Your appointment starts as scheduled. Everyone is super friendly. The stylist are the best in their field. Christina (my stylist) is a phenomenal colorist.

I'm not ecstatic about this "cut" or better yet trim. Back to the Bay I go.

I'm visiting from Cali (Bay Area) I just got a relaxer and cut a week ago. Saw this place on IG and I only wanted a wash and style. The atmosphere is nice (2 stars), the stylist greets me and we discuss my hair style (1 star) and the young lady who shampoo'd & wrapped my hair was great (2 stars). I sat under the dryer for a while. My stylist (Shoshanna) came and took the wrap strips off and I sat under for a few minutes until the dryer cut off.....I was under there waiting for every bit of 15 minutes. She comes to get me and we go to her chair. She says she'll trim a little off bc it's a bit lifeless. Which I understand bc my hair is like that with a relaxer it thickens up in about 2 weeks. I'm like cool, she's cutting and cutting. I'm thinking there's not much to cut bc I just got a cut last week. She tells me whoever cut my hair did it in a man's cut. Not feminine and cut off too much in the back. I agreed with the back and was a lil ehhh with the feminine part. Nonetheless when she finished I wasn't like ahhhhh haaaa. It was like oh okay. It looks okay. When I called last week for an appointment, I was informed it was $60 for a wash and style. The receptionist says $100 for a cut and style. (- 3 stars) I'm like what? A cut? Maybe a trim and that's reaching. I'm not happy with the price and services rendered. I almost want to call my bank bc I feel ripped off. She didn't "cut" much especially not $40 worth. I'll call my bank for the charges. If I come back, I'll only come for the owner and the shampoo lady with the cute blonde hair.

First time customer and I absolutely adore my haircut! Dani, did an amazing job! She was knowledgeable, attentive and made me feel so comfortable with my 1st haircut! Dani has gained a new client and the overall appearance, vibe and customer service was stellar! I'll definitely recommend and be returning to Like the River!

Absolutely love this place! The atmosphere is inviting, and service is top notch. Never had typical urban salon issues here: talking on the phone while styling, loud, double-booking appointments causing you to be here all day, etc... One problem: Appointments! If you do not book at least one week in advance, you will not be able to book an appointment with anyone. They are super busy, and all stylist slots fill up fast! However if you are looking for a stylist in particular, Tameka is great! She is very knowledgeable and can cut hair like no other.

Like the River Salon is more than just a salon. It's a place to enjoy good company with very professional and courteous service. The atmosphere is very nice and the stylists are so good at styling hair that it is never a second thought about returning. Regina has been my hair stylist at the salon for a year and I always look forward to seeing her. She is professional, polite, timely, and my hair cut/style is always a head turner each week. In a city like Atlanta where there are hundreds of stylists and therefore numerous options, its a pleasure to be a part of a salon that is a front runner in the business! Kisha H.

Hair by Toitti I promise this picture doesn't do the style any justice.

I'm now on week 3 with my tape-ins, and they are still holding strong. What impressed me the most is how my hair has stayed straight all this time. I'm coming off of a 7-month stretch between a chemical relaxer due to being mishandled and quite frankly traumatized by my last stylist (AVOID SP HairCare: decent results, with terrible professionalism). Thank God I like to maintain my own hair so I didn't walk into the studio necessarily in shambles. But I don't play around with strong chemicals and it was beyond time to go see a REAL professional. For some reason, there is a belief that Black/African-American hair can't be done at texturally diverse salons... WRONG!!! The experience started off wonderfully with a greeting from the host desk and an offering of tea, coffee, or water. I was relieved to see that the environment was neutrally colored, clean and organized (including the product display). The green wall behind the hostess stand is a beautiful touch. I was even more relieved to see that the bathroom was SPOTLESS. Junko is a medium-sized salon. There's only three wash stations and about 12-15ish stylist stations (iirc) neatly but closely arranged in the space. The stations are minimalist in nature and products/tools are brought out gradually on trays to minimize clutter -- I liked that. I came in at opening (10AM) on a Friday and I wasn't the only one. This place is probably packed during the weekend, but luckily they operate smoothly through a very efficient scheduling system. Deposits are required, non-refundable and are 30% of your estimated total. Payment was easy. Now let me tell you about Sharell. She is a multidisciplinary hair artist and master cosmetologist who used to own her own salon. Her passion for hair brought her out of retirement and into Junko. She has a calm, caring energy that makes you feel HELD. She can do any and everything -- I've seen the results! But she's especially passionate about given Black women better than what the "natural" salon industry has recently normalized (aesthetics over health). She loved that I asked questions and wanted to see me be knowledgeable about my own hair. We casually talked the entire time about life, but it wasn't forced. She also didn't forcefully upsell products or appointments, but the way she educates around hair prompts you to want more and better for yourself through gentle recommendations. Hair health IS a priority with her. She even apologized on behalf of the last stylist who did me dirty and didn't have to at all. AND she complimented me on how well I took care of my hair, instead of trying to manipulate me into wildly unnecessary services (*cough* SP HairCare). I left this salon feeling like a million bucks. I felt so relaxed and happy... which I realize is how you're supposed to feel! Other clients were also raving about their services during my appointment and it was nice seeing people and other staff so joyful. Now it did cost a pretty penny, but you have to be willing to invest in something as precious as your crown. I'm so so so excited to book again with Sharell and be back in the salon.

She told me I'd be meeting with Hannah, and gave me a cup of coffee and led me to the chair. First off, Hannah made me feel super comfy, as I hadn't been to a salon in over 3 years. I have fine curly/coily hair I hacked while in lockdown, and Hannah fixed me riiiiight up. Quickly. With ease. Us curly folks already know the fears of salons, but Hannah was confident, super super sweet, and so good at what she does. The owner was there too, which I thought was really cool. Overall, I was made so welcome (even though I called literally 20 minutes before I came in), the salon was so cute and cozy, and I left feeling like a million bucks! I would still recommend this place for color, and the products they use are the best. With that said, this review is strictly for the haircut (3/5) and the color is still a (5/5) Do your research on haircuts. I hadn't considered that everyone has a different cutting technique and the description of the haircut that you've been getting consistently with one stylist may not be interpreted the same way by another stylist :( After the initial cut, one side was about 1-2 inches shorter than the other side. So then the end result was my hair being much shorter than I wanted in the first place. Much of it was dry cutting which can be so hit or miss depending on the stylist, and some texturing at the ends (which to me just made it worse... I prefer thick sharp ends) Love the color and I kept saying that but haircut wise, the more I look at it the worse I feel about it and it just complete takes away from the color since I will prob keep it up until it grows out. In my opinion, It's shaggy and just does not look sleek like after past haircuts. Also peep the long forgotten piece of hair in the back (but the front is the shaggy part I don't like)

I've had the unfortunate experience of hair nightmares when I first moved to other cities. Somehow, the trend always seems to be that the second salon I try ends up being the perfect one for me...and Atlanta has been no exception to this. I first tried another salon nearby, which left me totally unhappy. They charged me a TON of money for serious roots and the tiniest of trims...which altogether took well over 3 hours even though my hair is barely past my ears?! Yikes. Anyhow, you get the point. I would have to return to hunting for another salon. In a fit of desperation, I did try a box dye to fix my roots but...it did not end well. I called around town, but stylists were either full up for the weekend or unwilling to book me until they scheduled a separate color-correction consult session. I then came across Urban Evolution, and it seemed to fit the bill: a local salon, all the cut-color-smoothing services that I like to use, reasonable pricing, quality products, and a range of stylists to pick from. Best of all: I was able to snag an appointment the next day with Erin! I later discovered that she was the salon owner. She did an amazing job! I never felt judged, rushed, or not listened to. She asked a lot of excellent questions, taking the time to really understand my hair and styling preferences. She was very easy to talk to throughout the appointment. I left feeling like myself again (only with better hair)! I can breathe a sigh relief knowing that I've found "my" salon here in Atlanta. I highly recommend Urban Evolution to anyone, and also definitely recommend Erin! I'm a very happy client. To close out my review, here are some of the pros and cons of Urban Evolution... PROS: They have online booking, which was a huge plus for me as I work a very busy job and don't always have time to call during business hours. I also like that their website has a "match" quiz to help our you with a stylist, which I've never seen before but very much appreciated. A very cool feature! The salon itself is beautiful, and the staff are professional and super friendly. I can tell that everyone goes the extra mile to make clients as comfortable and cared for as possible. They always offer me a beverage, for example. At my last visit, I was bemoaning how I could never figure out how to style my hair wavy. Not only did Erin show me, but she had another staff member film her doing it on a few sections of my hair, all the while explaining each step, and then texted me the video so I can use it to guide me at home. They use and sell quality products. They have Oribe and Davines, both of which are fantastic lines. I've started using Oribe Silverati shampoo/conditioner at Erin's suggestion and I'm now obsessed - it's really helped to improve the health of my hair (I do a lot of coloring and heat styling). The salon schedule allows for evening and weekend appointments, which is very helpful for folks who may work busy jobs and not be able to come in during traditional 9-5 weekday hours. The salon is situated on a street with a lot of yummy restaurants and cafes, so you could always come meet a friend before or after for brunch, lunch, or cocktails! I've tried several at the recommendation of Erin and other salon staff, and all have been excellent. I love supporting local business, so I see this as a "pro." CONS: I'd you've read this far and you're still not convinced, I guess I could say that the only potential "con" is maybe the parking. They have street parking, or for a few bucks you can use the parking lot for the woodworking shop across the street. But even then, to me this is a pretty weak "con" because I've never had any trouble finding a spot (I've literally parked right in front of the salon the last several times that I've been there). Go try Urban Evolution...like me, you won't regret it!
