I had an appointment June 16th. I brought in photos of what I wanted. I have the same colors 3 times previously in Greenville SC. The teacher Lea said no problem. The student who was graduating thr next month started working. Another student started on the other side. After all the color was out the teacher came over and said to put a rise on it. After that I got a 5 min haircut. The teach said if I didn't like it to call her and I could come back. My hair looked nothing like the blond high lights I requested. I tried calling for weeks after to no avail. My hair is dry and brittle and the cut is so bad. Becareful of this salon. I am out $120 and can't fix the mess until it grows out​ read more

I went to visit a friend that is currently in school here so of course you're going to get discounted rate, but everyone is so nice like all of the students were willing to help and all had really nice things to say overall. I will say that there is a lot of people here that come and go of course because this is a school and they are still learning that sometimes it takes a little bit longer and I'm OK with that just because I knew that it is going in I understand some people don't want to wait or they don't like it when it takes longer or when the students have questions but that is really what those places and to be honest I don't understand if people that are giving us a negative review if you go in with the mindset of like what happens happens, then you'll totally be fine I asked for a magenta halo that would peekaboo with my real hair and that's exactly what I got. I had a great experience here! I needed a trim. Most salons don't have just a trim option, and instead charge $50+ for a haircut. This seemed so silly to me as I only needed an inch or two off. I will admit, I was a little nervous coming into the appointment. Everyone hears horror stories of hair school. I thought to myself, the only way they can become experts is if they have clients and learn! Being a student myself, I wanted to give someone experience. My hair ended up being exactly what I wanted. Two inches off, in a blunt style. The price comes with a washing, and styling. My stylist, Sarah, did a phenomenal job. She curled it so nice! And did I mention, IT'S $18!!!!!! Such a steal. Avoid at All Costs! If I could give this place ZERO stars, I would. Paul Mitchell The School Cincinnati is an absolute disaster from top to bottom. The staff is unprofessional, disorganized, and completely indifferent to the needs of both students and clients. First off, the instructors are barely present, and when they are, they seem more interested in gossiping than actually teaching. The students are thrown onto the floor with minimal training, leading to some of the worst haircuts and color jobs I've ever seen. If you're a paying client, don't expect quality service--you're essentially a guinea pig for students who have no clue what they're doing. And good luck getting help if something goes wrong because the instructors rarely step in to fix their messes. As for the administration? An absolute joke. They're unresponsive, rude, and seem more interested in taking your money than providing any real education or service. If you're considering enrolling as a student--RUN. This school does not prepare you for a real career in cosmetology. They prioritize making money over actually teaching, and you'll be lucky if you graduate with the skills you need to pass state boards. Do yourself a favor--go somewhere else. Beware: this is an excruciatingly detailed recount of my time at Paul Mitchell. If you want the short version, I sat in a chair for four hours to get the wrong color dye slopped in my hair, on my skin, and on my clothes; my hair looked like a child cut it; and the employees didn't know how to do anything. Absolutely atrocious, the Paul Mitchell school provided the worst customer service experience of my life. I had read all of the negative reviews for this place, but I decided to go ahead and get my hair done because I thought it would be pretty hard to mess up dyeing my light brown hair a couple shades darker, and I wanted my same-length hair trimmed by an inch or two. I was wrong. I went in with a Groupon for a $16 dollar basic color and was assigned to Kim. I have thick hair that was about chest length when we started, so I expected to pay more for dye. The stylist and her lead came over to discuss what color I wanted my hair. They both emphasized the violet color they would be adding to the dye, even though I picked a reddish brown sample swatch, showed a picture, and discussed it with them. After spending half an hour trying to figure out how to get my hair to the desired color. I was informed that my total cost would be $47 after my Groupon. After consulting a learning leader and mixing the dye she began to apply it to my hair. It started off as a very slow process, and I started to get nervous as the dye on one side of my head had been sitting for quite a while before she started on the other side. Early on, she asked for someone to help apply the dye to my hair so it wouldn't take so long, which was thoughtful of her. I became less comfortable while she and the woman assisting her began complaining about their instructor, and made comments about how they would have chosen a different color for me WHILE THEY ARE DYEING IT. They did engage me some, and they were pleasant enough to talk to, but many of the things they said were wildly unprofessional. I noticed some dye on my arm as well at this point. Overall, the left side of my hair ended up covered in dye for over half an hour longer than the right side - the dye was supposed to only be in my hair 35 minutes total. The entire process of applying dye to my hair took well over two hours between the two students. She had me walk over to the sinks, where I had to wait in line because they were all in use. I ended up with dye and water splashed on me, and she was unable to put a towel on my hair to keep it from dripping. She ended up setting it on top of my head and telling me to just hold it there. Next came the haircut. The picture will tell you all you need to know. By now, I have been in a chair for over three hours, and I was anxious to go as I had plans in another hour. Twenty minutes into the haircut, I asked her how much longer I would be there. Keep in mind my hair was already one length, and I asked her to cut it about two inches and keep it all one length. I was told an ADDITIONAL 40 minutes would be necessary. I was clearly unhappy at this point, and I asked her to forgo blow drying and straightening my hair so I could leave sooner. She began to work a little faster at this point, and when she was nearing completion, she called over her learning leader to sign off on everything she had done. The leader then cut a little more of my hair to "even it out." In other words, the picture below was deemed acceptable after TWO people checked it. My mistake was, instead of looking at it then, I threw my hair into a bun and bolted to the front desk so I could pay and leave. By the time she finished cutting my hair, it has already begun to dry. Instead of brown, my hair was so dark purple it was nearly black. Fortunately I don't hate the color, but it's somewhat uneven and nothing close to what my stylist and her lead discussed with me. When I got to the front desk, the girl working there didn't know how to ring me up. The stylist only ended up using 4 of the 5 bowls of dye she expected to need, so my cost went down to $34. Since I skipped the services at the end, it also became a little cheaper. She tried to charge me over $50 because she couldn't figure out how to use the computer. I told her that was incorrect, and she got help. This took a while to rectify, and finally she figured out how to ring it up, my total came to $28. While I was waiting for them to figure out how to ring up my total, someone (not an employee) informed me that my stylist had spilled dye all over my neck and the back of my shirt, which she neglected to tell me. By this point I was furious and asked to speak to her supervisor, something I have never done before and plan to never do again. Her supervisor comped me for the bowl of dye she spilled, which required her to get ANOTHER girl to help her with the computer. I left after this, then went to Great Clips fix it. read more

Before my appointment, I received a reminder text 4 days prior, 2 days prior and even a reminder text the morning of my appointment. I arrived 5 minutes early, signed in & waited. After waiting 30 minutes, I began to wonder why I rushed to get there early. I was informed that the students come back from lunch at 12:30 & it takes a little time to get situated. DON'T MAKE A 12:30 APPOINTMENT! Once a student came to get me, things started looking up. She massaged tea tree oil into my hair before shampooing - smelled wonderful! She asked me how I wanted my hair cut & styled and then proceeded to do just that. The Paul Mitchell products used on my hair were great & the soothing indulgence treatment was fantastic. I'm extremely disappointed with the Paul Mitchell school. I had an appointment this morning for 9:30, and driver about 45 minutes to get here to find out they are operating on a 2 hour delay. I never received a text, phone call, or email informing me of the delay and the change in my appointment. I just moved to the area about a month ago from Florida. If you know anything about moving one of the most nerve wracking things about moving is finding a new stylist. I saw mixed reviews of Paul Mitchell School, but they were highly recommended by a sales associate in Kenwood Mall. I had put off getting my hair done for as long as I could stand it, and with a bundle of nerves, I bit the bullet and made the appointment. When I arrived, I was greeted, asked to sign in, and invited to sit down as it may take a moment because everyone was just getting back from lunch. When the girl assigned to do my hair (Erica) took me back she was very sweet and understanding of my nervousness. I told her what I normally do (blue black base color, partial foil, highlights covered by purple) and explained if she wasn't comfortable with it, that we could just go with a solid color. She assured me she was fine with it. And you could tell she was very excited, which not only boosted my confidence in her, but made me happy that she could take pride in this project once completed. We went over what concerns I have with my hair, how I like it cut, etc. She recommended product for me. A "learning leader" came to sign off on the consult and explained pricing to me (a good thing to do with someone like me, who has enough hair for five people that is also pretty long). People who have given negative reviews based on time management should be taken with a grain of salt. It needs to be understood that this place is a school! These young men and women are learning and with that should come patience and understanding. This is not the place to go to get a quick trim on your lunch break! Having said that, it's not uncommon for me to sit in a chair for several hours for a cut, color, highlight, and sometimes a keratin treatment. I have had salon days that took eight hours at other salons. So, six hours for my standard cut, color, and highlight wasn't a big deal to me. I prefer someone (especially a student) cutting my hair for the first time take their time, do a good job, and take pride in the result! The pricing was great! Even at $8 per extra bowl of color (she used eight to ten on my boat load of locks), I walked out of there with refreshed, vibrant hair and product (shampoo & conditioner) spending a little over $100 plus tip! I have been known to spend $500+ on some of my salon days. I returned with my partner so he could get his mane tamed, and intend on following Erica once she graduates and moves on to another salon. I would recommend anyone looking for a new stylist to consider this place though I understand not all stylists are created equal, I am very happy with my results. read more

First time I have ever left a hair salon in tears! It is The Worst Haircut I've ever had. Where to begin? In a nutshell, it took over two hours for her to botch my hair. But here are the details. Yes I know it's a school not a salon. I've had haircuts at other schools many times and never had such an (awful) experience. First , I specifically asked for someone who was rather quick as I didn't have a lot of time to spend. TWO HOURS later she was still hacking away. Second, I instructed that I only want a trim as I'm growing my hair out and I like it long. The student, teacher and i all agreed that no more than hald inch needed to be cut. I was in complete shock when I saw a two inch piece fall on the floor. Third, the student seemed very professional and I felt confident since she was a higher level and about to graduate. Oh my, she was clueless how to trim long layers (hence the chopping that ensued) and had to call the teacher for help. It was too late for that. I will say that the student and teacher were very nice, especially compared to the other students and front desk staff I observed. They dressed poorly, were dancing around, screaming jokes and acting like fools. Yes, again, I know it's a school, but that is not appropriate behavior in front of customers. It's been several days and I am still devastated. I cannot believe all my hair is gone and I am stuck with this heinous haircut that looks like a grown out mullet. I go to this school every time for my hair color and I've have always had a wonderful experience. I'm naturally a dark brown color and when I decided to go blonde (the first time a very honey blonde, now it's full of bright sun kissed blonde highlights) I was extremely nervous about the damage it would do to my hair, the level of up keep it would require and the horror stories I had heard of green or orange-ish blondes being the result of going so light. The team leaders and the student made me feel comfortable in trusting them with my hair, and I have not once regretted my color change! I get complements constantly on how good the color looks with my complexion and I've been blonde for over a year and a half now! Like I said I go every time I need a root touch up or for more highlights and most of the time I also get a hair cut. I would highly recommend to any one who doesn't mind spending the day at the salon, as they tend to take longer than typical salons because they are still just students. read more

Horrible experience, i went in today and wasted about 2 hours and also came out with wet hair. Girls over there don't respect the hair you have. there girl doing my hair didn't even shampoo properly and then started conditioning. when i told her that you didnt shampoo any of my hair in the back she is like - "OH i didnt knew if u would like that" - REALLY? She poured some shampoo on top of conditioner (what a mess) She didnt do it right at all. When we came back to the seat - she started drying the hair without putting any products or heat protectant. I called the supervisor and expressed my concern stating that i am not comfortable with my stylish doing my hair without any care. She was kind enough to change the styler but again the girl started ripping my hair with brush. I was so concerned that i didnt even bother to do my hair there. dont go there. I've been here twice and both times my hair turned out orange! First visit i got highlights with level one stylist l that turned out orange and then a couple months later went for a root touch up with level two stylist which also was orange! My hair is blonde or was blonde my whole life until they screwed it up! Not to mention both were 530 appointments and I left shortly before 10 both times! Took 4 plus hours! What a waste of time! The supervisors who are supposed to make sure clients get a great cut after a student cuts a client's hair is what yielded the two stars. 5 or 6 years ago, it used to be that Jen and Tyler checked the layers of every cut. This week, I experienced a new supervisor who gave a visual cursory "look over". Square layer blending of my previous round layers was not even really blending. I watched as my stylist took 1 mm off of some strands and nothing off of others. She stated that the supervisor probably did not check the layers be cause she (the stylist) "really didn't do anything" (I agree, she really didn't) I'll try one more time and will give an update. Worst manicure ever! Do not go there for a manicure! The girls were nice but even admitted they don't many manicures. They had to set up a portable table for them. I have been going to this school on and off for color and an occasional cut for over 8 years. It's a school and yes they take a long time but weigh that against what you pay at a saloon and I'll take the wait! Recently I have started going for low lights and highlights and this was the ONLY place that put the exact color and amount of color I wanted in my hair (I'd been to 4 different salons that couldn't accomplish this). I've had 3 different stylists and have been completely happy every time. I like to experience with color in my hair and am not afraid to go crazy with it (and I'm 53 years old!) and this place does what I ask. I'd end up paying over $200 for what they do and I'm only paying $50-$70 and I'm getting what I want. All I can say is expect to sit for a long time - they're learning!, and make sure you speak up and TALK to who's doing your hair so they do what YOU want - not necessarily what the instructor told them to do especially when it come to cutting your hair. read more

On the 13th of February, I came in and received a cut and color by a student. Obviously the student didn't care about her learning experience. She was very unprofessional. She would stop doing my hair just to talk to one of her friends. Her friends would come over and take her supplies that she just used on me to use on someone else, which is a HUGE no no!!! She would watch the educator do her thing then do the exact opposite. She didn't even listen to anything the educator said. At one point the educator told her not to get rid of a bowl of color so she got rid of it and they charged me for an extra bowl!! Not to mention I was there for about 6 hours. And the educator let her hack up my hair and then the educator hacked my hair up as well. Overall I came out with a great color but thee shittiest haircut I've ever had. I understand that she's learning, I went to cosmetology school once too. I'm not mad at the girl who did my hair so much as I am with the educator!! It's the educators job to teach them and be there when they mess up. The educator just showed her how to do something real quick then leave. When she came back and saw that my hair was hacked up she let it go!!! I'm mad at her for letting it go! It's your job to teach, critique and fix it if it's wrong!!!!!!!
