I have gotten my hair done several times at a Paul Mitchell location in another state. Never had an issue. I love going there because I'm not picky and I like for people to learn. I was in CT for a bit so decided to make an appointment while I was around. I got a full head of highlights. My hairdresser was quiet but nice. I found it odd I wasn't asked how light I wanted to go, especially when the instructor came over and asked her if I wanted dimensions or not. I was waiting to see what her answer was cause she didn't ask me! I answered myself. Anyways, the coloring came out very well. I like it, I get lots of compliments. I have never encountered anyone before who is so aggressive with hair. I have thick hair, it tangles but nothing crazy. My hair wasn't brushed before the bleach. The teasing of my hair was a bit rough but when it came time to washing the bleach out of my hair and brushing it I have never been on so much pain. I had unintentional tears coming out of my eyes, and was gripping my chair. My hair was being ripped from my head. The blow drying with the brush was also very painful, almost walked out with my wet hair. Never have I ever experienced anyone this aggressive with my hair. My scalp was sore for 2 days after. I went for a haircut the other day. I said I like the length. The girl cut 3-4 inches off the back of my hair. She did nothing as to my request of what I wanted. It will take me more than 6 months to grow it back. It's also cut unevenly and straight across the back. I went there not because of money. Do not recommend this school at all. I went for the skin program and it was terrible. Half of the time we did not have products. No towels, no facial products, no wax, no lash products, no water for steamers, sheets/towels were disgusting and stained, brow products is cheap and barely works. I can go on and on. You would think a school with so much money would have materials for paying students. Learning leaders don't know what they're doing. One "teacher" tells us one thing, next one tells us another, the only teacher that fought for the skin program and taught well and actually cared about our education was Ms.Guadalupe. Thank you. Our class was basically self-taught, we learned off each other because learning leaders were literally useless. Skin program is also dragged out, spent my last 2 months of school doing literally nothing, just sitting there because there was no material left to learn. We never had a set agenda. Learning leaders would constantly switch it up, we never had a syllabus of what we were going to learn, learning material was always pushed back. First 4 months of school were straight facials and back facials, we would do the same thing over and over because as I mentioned learning leaders would constantly push back learning material. Staff is also very strange. Ms. franchesca was waiting for a classmate outside the bathroom and accused her of vaping. Almost all the colored girls in a class were terminated. I don't recommend anyone go to Paul Mitchell for a facial. Dishes/brushes are never sanitized properly, towels are absolutely gross, smocks for clients old and linty, bowls are dirty and old, wax sits there for weeks. The laundry room is also filthy. Machines are old and does not wash sheets properly. It's sad honestly because Paul Mitchell is supposed to be one of the best beauty schools in the country. As I mentioned, they make so much money off of millions of students but don't bother to give us a proper education or supplies. The school also promises you they will help you find employment post-graduation .. nope. They could care less. All they care about is if your tuition is payed off. By worse school I have ever attended! I attended the skin program. We had multiple learning leaders teaching us incorrectly. Our class literally depended on each other to learn the material because the teachers were all over the place and wouldn't last in the school. Going on half of the program we got a great teacher. Even though she had to back track in a lot of the material we should of had learned, she made sure we understood everything and did not give up until we learned it. I will forever be grateful for her. Thank you Miss A Management sucks. They only care about money. They really didn't care about the students. As long as they were getting there money they didn't care if we learned or not. I was falsely accuse of having covid when I didn't. I was getting my last service with Kat getting my hair done ( i love her btw)and after that i went back upstairs with my classmates. The next day Fransheska called me telling me i couldn't go to school because i was in close contact with the person that came up positive. (which wasn't true, that teacher wasn't no where around me and i had my mask at all times) Then they called my classmates telling them someone in our class came up positive meaning (me) which wasn't true. First time being there and it was very welcoming! The student handling my hair was very receptive to the advice being given by the leaders and she did an amazing job! For those that are worried that they won't leave with the hair they wanted, students check in with their leaders often so no worries at all. I would not recommend going here for coloring. I had virgin black hair and wanted an ashy brown balayage. I had to go back two more times following my initial 8 hour appointment. After the first visit, my hair was streaky brown with a straight line between my black hair and the dark brown color. After the second visit for "correction" I left with the back of my hair half blonde half black on the other side. None of the hair stylists pointed this out. At the third visit (to correct the half blonde/half black, the employees were rude and rough with my head. I was extremely extremely uncomfortable. Overall, a stressful and expensive visit. I had an appointment for two weeks from now I had a little time on my hands yesterday, so I called to see if they had any cancellations.They said they had time for a trim and a cut but not the toner I had scheduled two weeks from now.I said yes to a Trim & Cut,.The receptionist told me the price would be $24 because she is phase 2.I was ok with that (I had $50 on my card) and $7 cash with me for a tip:). When I got there, the woman made it seem like she may only need to trim my hair to get it to how I liked it .She mentioned the word fringe.So I thought ,cool, there might be time leftover for a toner.Not realizing yet at that point that they put me with someone who leaves at 730pm and my appointment started a little after 6( had I known that at that point , I would have never asked for an additional service ). I said to the girl ,toners at the other school I went to are $25, it's $25, correct ? She said yes" Maybe she did not hear me or thought I said something else , I don't know.All I knew is I did the math in my head $25,24 equals $49.i got $50 , perfect ! I can do this.I thought they were going to allow me to select a swatch ( every other school I gone to let me pick a swatch to show them the shade of the color I want I want to achieve.The learning leader said there is no time for that.We are just going to make our own formula , but don't worry, the red will be gone.When I asked the student while she was blow-drying my hair what formula they wound up going with , she said green , because green cancels red , plus a little brown .Had they told me that, I would have opt out , the girl at the previous school tried that and it didn't work, my hair was recently processed, I was going to need to go darker.The learning leader came over and she said we decided to put a little green in your hair with a little brown and it may or may not cancel the red you are getting rid of .We were not sure.Again ,had they told me that , I would not have done this ,if I knew their method .I told them I wanted to go browner from the beginning.This was also a color correction and on the price list , color correction was not listed , and require a consultation which means the learning leader should have told me the price before starting the service and she did not, I was not aware it cost $45 until it was time to pay.They told me they charged me for a full color.Never I all the years I been attending these schools have I ever been charged the price of a full color for someone with a partial foil .I only had highlights in front .When the student was blow-drying my hair I didn't see a difference, she said when it's fully dry I will see. The lighting was not the usual lighting ,I didn't realize until I got to my car and in front of mirror at home that my hair still had red in it ( I paid a service to get rid of the red , they did not accomplish that).if they didn't have the time to give me the full service they give someone getting a toner that includes selecting a swatch, they should have recommended ( due to my student having to leave in less then an hour at that point ) they should have recommended I save that service for the next visit .not just select one for me , throw a little green in it , and call it a day.Especially when that barely works on recently processed hair .In all the years highlighting and toning , I always always had to go darker whenever my hair was recently processed.if she wasn't going to go big and go darker brown , then it's best she didn't waste my time at all.it was not going to work.Been there done that I was not fully heard .then the surprise came $45 ...not $25.boy was I suprised .I would have never ok a full color to cover up a few strands ..I have short hair and a partial subtle foil in front , no way Now I owe the school $20 .I have a paper check coming to me for work last week that won't get there until Tuesday due to the holiday when I thought my direct deposit would kick in this week but payroll didn't set it up yet for my new account.they want their $20 extra but i feel in all fairness they were not clear when I was in that chair .I still have to pay someone else to put in another darker toner to get rid of the red.They were insisting I give them $69 at first yesterday, there was no way I was paying my bank a $35 overdraft fee, that would have wound up costing $104 for a service u thought was going to be $49 and I d have no red ..mission accomplished.they didn't let me select my own color They didn't listen to the fact my hair was just processed two weeks prior.They should know green method doesn't work on recently processed hair I said that 4 times that I can't believe I have to go back to weeks later because I didn't like the color now I have to go all brown to get rid of the red because a light or medium brown isn't going to be enough to do it ..did they do that no ? You get what you pay for. I understand it's a school but there is a reason there are supervisors- they're supposed to check you before you leave to help correct errors. I couldn't get an appointment with my salon so in a pinch I tried this. Instead of the toner and trim I asked for, they talked me into lowlights. Fair enough, I'll try something new. The student missed large sections of my hair so it was patchy and uneven and I had to ask them to fix it. After that there are no lowlights except for uneven pateches and my hair is now all one shade of orange with a tinge of green. I cant even go to work it's so bad. The cut is even worse- choppy, all different lengths, completely uneven. To make it worse, nobody ever came to check on my hair, I asked why and was told they already signed off on it and didnt need to. The teacher was already gone before my hair was finished, nobody was going to check anything and there is no quality control. So after 3.5 hours and $90, my hair looks like a 5 year old did it and I'm going to have to go BACK and waste more time letting them do God knows what to "fix" it. In the end, I should have just spent the extra $100 and waited the 2 weeks for my actual hairdresser since it is going to cost several hundred dollars to fix this. They should be embarrassed to have anyone walk out looking like I did The icing on the cake is the wait- I had an appointment for 515, wasnt taken until just before 6 and didnt get to leave until after 9. read more

I have read the reviews here and I have to differ from the bad GREATLY. This is a school people. These are students. Some are good, some are great, and some need some work. That is what SCHOOL is for. They take longer than a salon and are imperfect but that is why they offer discounted rates. They are under instructor supervision. They have things they have to do, like have their work checked. Whenever I have gone there the students were friendly, did a great job for where they were in their education and I have been completely satisfied. Well worth the price. Paul Mitchell "The School" is a mixed bag. As others have mentioned, this is a school and not an actual salon. Yes, you get what you pay for---usually, it means that you will walk out of the school feeling relatively good. My color has often been wonderful. Only once did I find inexplicable red streaks on top of my head when I came home, but I just grimaced and reminded myself that there are potential risks in their educational environment. However, the "future professional" who colored my hair was supposedly an advanced student who must have seen those streaks and decided to say nothing about her faux pas. Not cool. It's true that some of the newer students are timid, but they're usually enthusiastic and eager to learn. Their "learning leaders" (professional stylists who work as mentors at the school) will always assist in this case if necessary. My complaint in this scenario would be the amount of time spent in the chair with some of the newer students. Because of chronic pain problems, I really can't sit for three or four hours. But I find that it's the exception and not the rule. Many of the advanced students need absolutely no assistance, and you will be amazed at their confidence and tenacity. At times you'll also find two students, usually advanced, working on you concurrently because it might be a slower day with fewer customers. It's a soothing experience, and you'll be done within 1 1/2 hours if you're getting a color and blow dry. Incidentally, there *are* a number of advanced students in Phase 1. Just specifically ask the front desk for any of the advanced students in Phase 1 when scheduling an appointment. Now for a few other personal drawbacks: Both the novices and even the advanced students seem extremely nervous about cutting hair, which is why I don't request that service anymore. I have a simple style with bangs and long layers, but they don't cut the bangs properly and to my specifications (shear straight across my forehead, touch the top of the brows and then texturize the hair). After asking for a bang trim on a few occasions, I finally said never mind! Sometimes I opt for waxing services, and the students are adequate. However, there's still some hesitation about shaping and cleaning my thick, arched brows. Apparently, it's a bit daunting but you can coax them into applying additional attention to your requested services. Some final details of dubious distinction: The front desk folks are infamous for not returning calls requesting appointments, hence I would not suggest leaving any messages. Just contact them during business hours. Moreover, ask them to clarify any information you need regarding their schedules for appointments, pricing and in which Phase they scheduled you. They also have a continually bad habit of trying to extort extra dollars from customers in an underhanded sense. Example: They kept scheduling me for Phase 2 and I never requested it! Also, don't allow anyone to bully you into buying products or accepting extra services. If you're changing color, you do not need any additional solutions or applications. For the record, I procured that last iota of advice from a Paul Mitchell graduate. read more

I know, it's a learning experience for the students. I know, the prices are really inexpensive because of that fact. But it's inexcusable to have someone not know how to pull off a basic trim. A trim. No layers. Just a simple trim to clean up some split ends. It's inexcusable to not have someone pull off a basic blow out and adjust the temperature to the blow dryer so I don't come away with a sore and possibly burnt scalp. I have been going to beauty schools for a very long time because bleach and tones are really expensive and they are hard to keep up. Schools are easy alternative ways. I used to love when I would go to this school maybe a year and a half ago, now I never want to go back. From the moment I sat down by the window I immediately notice how freezing it is like, ok I understand it's 10am but I literally have goosebumbs under my sweatshirt. After speaking up multiple times nothing was done and when everyone (students included) complained it was still in the 40s. Now to the actual hair......we were going on 4 HOURS of having bleach on my hair. I was so scared for the damage they were doing to it that I wanted a deep condition. When the time was going by so slow sitting there freezing with bleach on my head I was so done I didn't even want a blow dry let alone a deep condition. When I went home and dried my hair they didn't leave the toner on long enough and I have YELLOW BRASSY HAIR. I tried fixing myself with at home toner but nothing has been effective. I asked my 'future professional' to give me something fresh for my long hair. It DOES take a while to get your hair done as they have to have their "learning leader" sign off and make sure they've done it correctly. I'd rather sit in and it done right, help someone complete their education, and get a good cut. I LOVED my cut and for $12 who can complain? I really don't know what others expectas all of these people are at different stages of their learning. If you're going to get furious at someone for learning how to cut hair (and volunteering yourself) then you should be getting angry with yourself. Spend your precious money somewhere else. We've all had to work at something to get good at it and these people need practice. No one is forcing you to go there. I say that this is a fantastic place. All of those working were very nice, very well-meaning people. I scheduled my six-week appointment without hesitation (with the same girl!). I asked her if they get credit for repeat customers and they do keep track. If you expect perfection, proceed with caution. I have 2 relatives who have attended school here. While they did learn and are doing well in their profession, the school is a SCAM. They scalped them out of thousands of extra dollars claiming they missed classes and training hours. In reality the school's time clock would frequently break. The school also makes up rules and changes them on a day-to-day basis without informing the students- therefore telling them they owe more money or they can't graduate. DO NOT GO TO SCHOOL HERE. First off: I made an apt for 5:15pm, and I sat and waited and waited and waited until it was almost 6pm and I just told them forget it..... They asked me to stay so I did..... I had 50% so I said screw it. Well I left there with half blonde half orange hair and NOT balayage highlights..... the bottom of my hair is just blonde. So it's an ombré. The owner is discourteous, belligerent, unprofessional, and lacks common knowledge of running a business. She puts down other students, and it is clear that is due to her own insecurities. The school has no structure, consistency, or discipline, and there is nothing but negative energy in this building. It is staggering that they practice a "be nice or else culture" yet, it is very hypocritical the way the staff and owners' behavior is. I really should have read the other reviews here on Yelp before booking an appointment at the Paul Mitchell School, but hopefully I can deter others! This is a long review, so bottom line: 4 hours of hell, hair hardly trimmed at all, had to cut out highlights they were done so badly. I have been to two different Aveda Institutes and had great experiences. Usually the haircuts take a bit longer, but I've always been pleased with the results. So when I moved to CT and learned that there was a similar training salon in North Haven, I was happy to give it a try. Well, here's how my experience went: I booked a level 1 cut and partial highlight. The day before my appointment I got a call from the salon asking if I'd like to participate in their highlight testing. I said sure, because it would be on the same day, only cost $9, and instead of having a level 1 stylist cut my hair, I would have a level 2 student do it. Additionally, I was told they would be timed and have to have the highlights done in an hour and a half. That sounded reasonable to me--a more experienced student and a time limit! Boy was I wrong. I got there 15 min early, just in case they needed me to fill out any paperwork or anything. I then waited around a half an hour before anyone took me back to a chair. My stylist then waited another 20 minutes before he got the go ahead to start the highlight. Then it took him TWO HOURS to highlight and wash my hair. He obviously had no idea what he was doing, because he had to keep stopping to ask his instructor what to do and she kept gently explaining how he was doing it wrong. And then he would argue with her about how he thought he had done it correctly. So not only was he bad, he was also rude. At one point, he noticed that the first foils he had put in were already done so he rushed to get them out and ended up dragging a towel through my hair to get the dye out. Well, this just pulled my hair out and gave me a huge rats nest. So, we're in hour 3 when he finally starts to cut my hair. I just asked that he take an inch off my already layered hair, and to just follow the style I already had. Not too hard, right? Well, he couldn't even cut a straight line on the bottom layer so his instructor had to finish the haircut. And they didn't even cut off an inch, more like a quarter of an inch, so all my split ends are still in tact. We're now onto hour 4, when all he has to do is blowdry my hair. This had to be the most painful of my 4 hour ordeal. He didn't even know how to blowdry! He spent about 5 minutes per one inch section of my hair combing it out and separating it without even putting the dryer to it. After about 20 minutes of this and about 3 inches of my hair dry, I finally asked him if he could speed it up because I needed to be gone. I asked him to just dry it and not worry about styling. Well, that didn't really work as he kept separating small sections over and over again and not actually blowdrying them. And finally a second instructor came over and dried my hair in about 5 minutes. Then, when I got home and got a mirror out to really look at the highlights, I noticed that they all had about a half an inch root before they started, and some of them were orange! I had to actually cut some sections out because I'd rather be bald than keep the highlights! UGH. I guess you get what you pay for for $9. Can't stay away from this place! First of all this is a school...be aware that if you choose a phase one student you'll have students working on you who have been in school for between 2-10 months approx. Some of them will be very confident and adept in their chosen career path and others will still be learning the ropes as well as tying to get their confidence level up. If you want to guarantee you get a student with killer confidence you'll have to pay for a phase 2 student...these students are near the end of their schooling and are considered "honors" students. The first time I came here I got a phase 2 student...slightly pricier but the prices aren't expensive anyway. I got a deep condition and flat iron (which they call smoothing) They also offer free hand paraffin with the phase 2 students ((you'll pay 5.00 for this in phase 1) the girl was extremely efficient and I don't believe this service took any longer then had I gone to a professional. My hair felt so silky and amazing afterward and stayed straight for about a week (I have very thick curly coarse ethnic hair) . I think I paid about 37.00 dollars plus tip This most recent visit I opted for a phase 1 student to save a couple bucks. I got a very drastic haircut. This time the student had only been in school a few months...and she was WONDERFUL she's officially my go to until she graduates in 2015...everyone I highly recommend Crystal Crespo! Can't wait to see how great she gets over the course of her year at school. My haircut did take longer then if I'd gone to a salon but it's a school so no complaints...the learning leader came over every step of the way and did an awesome job tending to students and clients. I really couldn't be happier with my visit. Loved chatting with the girls and they did a fantastic job executing everything they've learned so far in school. My haircut was only 12.00 which normally includes was,cut,and style. But since they wanted to cut my hair straight I also got a free flat iron :) I already made my next appointment (with Crystal) Maybe in a few months I'll get some color done by her. I've always wanted to be a hairdresser. Going to this school, I thought was going to be the greatest experience of my life. I was told all of the things I would be learning to becoming the best hairdresser I could be. Shortly after starting, I realized it was all a scam. All they wanted was money. After keeping up with payments, I was told I had no more. A year went on and I was preparing for graduation when I was told I owed a good chunk of money. Out of nowhere. If I didn't pay that chunk before the owner got back from her (many) vacations, I was not able to graduate. All she cares about is taking everyones money. It then took exactly a year and four months until I was able to receive my copy of my license due to the fact that no one filed that I had graduated. All of the instructors and staff members did not do their partake in what their roles were at the school. There was no asking for extra help without the instructors making you look and feel like a failure. On top of that, they played favorites with the students. If you were not one of their favorites, you were on your own. The owner didn't care about anyone but herself, which she made very clear to the students, staff and clients. There's a select few good-hearted people in that school. Before starting, everyone made it seem like it was such a great environment to be in everyday, when in all reality, they made it a living nightmare. No one cared about you, as a person. Terrible. A scam. Even with a Groupon they overcharge. You go in for one thing and they charge you double??? That doesn't make sense. A color job that should have lasted 1 1/2- 2 hours tops lasted almost 6 hours??!!! How the hell do you explain that? On top of that you get charged double for a specific service you asked for, without them even telling you about it, till the end. FRAUDS!!! NEVER GO THERE!!. The place has no repect for students, customers and of course their emploees. I did my research and honestly i do not understand why people pay money to go to this place to learn or to use their services. They also make their new employees do a presentation on a Be Nice Or Else culture that sounds very nice at the beginning but they dont follow it at all. while I have no experience with this school, I will say the reviews scared me. Nightmares I don't need. All I want is a simple hair cut nothing fancy or glamerous.No dying,streaking, perming nothing. How sad I still have to cut my own hair and I don't do a good job either. I was there yesterday. The staff is quite inefficient. I had a 6:00 appt and they did not take me in until almost 7:00. I was there until 9:30. The student clearly had no idea what she was doing. She really did not even have a basic knowledge of the products. There was a man in the chair next to me. He wanted color to cover his grays. His student "future professional" was Stephanie. She colored his hair orange! I really mean ORANGE.. I am not sure how many of you recall Bozo the clown but this was as close as you can possibly get to that look. Stay away from this place! I would have given them zero stars if it were possible. The owner is a rude witch. I went online and checked and I believe that this woman and her husband (the dean) do not actually have college degrees. They are "teaching" cosmetology. Students pay $24,000to attend the school. From what I could see there is a constant change of "teachers". Do not offer her any suggestions. It will not help as she apparently knows everything! This school works by appointment--not walkins as at the other schools. An "appointment" apparently means nothing. If you get there and the student is not there you are supposed to sit there and wait for up to an hour. In the past they would call you to let you know that your student would not be there. They have discontinued this policy. They really do not respect you or your time. I would avoid this drama filled hair school. read more

I highly recommend this school! It's not only a beautiful school that provides a great education, but it's also state of the art. The instructors truly care about the quality of education that the student receive. I am currently having some "challenges" I would like to address. My first issue is that I feel that this school is more focused on raising money than education. I think the fund-raising has gone a completely overboard. Giving boxes for selling pies and/or making donations is giving credit for something we never actually did. We're told that the State of Connecticut requires that we do a certain amount of cuts, perms (which I have yet to do), colors etc. These requirements are getting completed by us donating money, getting someone else to donate money, or selling something like pies/coffee/body shop products/candles to raise money. Also giving donations for hours is or should be illegal, and quite frankly its unfair to students who don't want to donate or simply can't. We have students who are struggling to make ends meet, and they want us to donate money for every little thing. Second, there is an issue with hours. If a student doesn't hand in their worksheet on time, they don't give the hours to them even though the student is clocked in. I don't know where they come up with these ridiculous rules but myself and other students pay close to $20,000 or more to go to school here and we deserve the hours we put in. $20,000 may be pocket change to them, but to us, it isn't, and they clearly take our money for granted. Along with the above paragraph, taking swipe cards is also pointless..needless to say. I don't want to have to chase "learning leaders" down for weeks on end to get my card to get my hours. That's what I'm paying for. Third, they waste a lot of our valuable time. It's unnecessary to have "home room" for an hour or more. "Pow wow" is also to long. I understand if you need to tell us things and what's going on but we don't care to hear or tell "victories". Fourth, another problem students have is when we need to get our boxes signed, the learning leaders always give us attitude. If they don't want to be bothered then get rid of our worksheets, other schools don't have them. We don't want to bother them as much as they don't want us to. Come up with a better way. Hey, how about they actually track what we do? Maybe even grade a hair cut or two on the floor? Fifth, their main focus on the floor seems to be that they are more concerned in us selling products then giving a great haircut. They make quotas for us to sell X amount of bottles and if we don't they raise it. That's absurd! If we aren't selling 2 what makes them think we will hit 4? Sixth, teaching us that we are going to make loads of money when we graduate is not accurate. Some Paul Mitchell students can't even get jobs because all we know is Paul Mitchell, and no one wants to take the time to retrain us. We don't pay to be "coached" on how much money we will make. I won't make anything if I'm not being taught. Seventh, I haven't had a specialty classes in I don't know how long, its been that long. I want to learn something, please!!!! Eighth, I want to say, that I think its ludicrous how they have all of these "extra" classes to be certified for in our school, and we actually have to pay for them in addition to our tuition. What is the $20,000 for? I would love to know. This school was only number 1 last year because they raised money NOT because they have a 100% passing rate and a low percentage rate on drop outs and transfers. They actually have the highest percentage rate on that. The school really isn't as great as the owners and their followers make it, and the saying goes both ways, "you can't judge a book by its cover". Paul Mitchell may look like a great school, but is it???? I don't think so. read more

I really liked my haircut here. It is a school and they are required to ask their instructors to do initial cuts, in between check ins, and final look overs. It isnt a good place if you need something done quick but i have seen many people come out looking great. They are learning and it isnt fair to bash them for being awful when it could be their first or second day on the floor. I got a wash house and it was amazing and relaxing. The front desk people are nice and the instructors do what they can around the floor since there are so many students. I think it is a great institution and I will definitely book again. read more

People if you're expecting a perfect haircut and color go to a salon this is a SCHOOL which means their still learning you get what you pay for so that's why it's CHEAP but they do a fine job. And if you dislike it they have teachers on the floor who can fix it or if you phone like or trust what a student is doing then ask them to get their teacher for a second opinion and yes it's going to take longer for them to do your hair you don't realize how much actually goes into a "basic trim" angles and perfect parting making sure your shears are straight etc these STUDENTS are new at this give them a break. And remember they don't want you walking out upset! read more

If you are looking for a cosmetology school I highly advise you invest your money elsewhere. As an attending student at this school I honestly don't have anything positive to say about this institution. I'm not sure where the $23,000 you pay to go here goes. The learning leaders at this school typically last about two months at max unless they have what is takes to have no skill whatsoever, ruin the students self confidence, and constantly make everyone around them miserable. The owner however frequently visits Italy about every other month and still has no idea how to pronounce my name. I'm glad the money I've invested in this school has gone absolutely no where except into the owners brand new Masserrati parked out front. I've had nothing but great experiences at Paul Mitchell the School North Haven! At my first visit I didn't know what I really wanted and they convinced me to go red and I haven't looked back since! They got the hair color to complement my skin color perfectly and often people think it's my real color! As far as my haircuts go, granted they haven't been real complicated -- I used to have a semi-graduated bob and now I have long layers, but it always looks great. I feel confident with the students and if there's ever a question, a learning leader is always around to give guidance or touch things up. One thing to expect is that services take much longer than in a "real" salon because let's face it -- they're students -- and the learning leaders basically check things every step of the way, which takes time and is a good thing, if you ask me. I've been going there for about 2 years now, and I've seen a lot of other clients get good cuts and color as well. Bottom line: Services there for me have been as good as or better than I've had in "real" salons (don't even get me started on Astor Hair in NYC!) Save yourself some money and look great! read more
