When I sought help with our taxes, I noticed that Paula had a near perfect score on yelp. There was only one negative review, which interpreted correctly was positive and neutral: Paula has a family business, owns a dog, and isn't up to some guy's attractiveness standards. I scrutinized all the other reviews, made a list of questions, and started an email exchange with her. She was prompt, straightforward, patient, and I was convinced she would do an excellent job handling our taxes remotely. If you live anywhere in California with a high cost of living, take a look at what EAs charge in different areas before hiring a local EA. I was living in the bay area at the time, and the EAs there charge far more than they are worth. Paula is the opposite - her service is worth more than she charges. It's been 5 years now and Paula has been fantastic this entire time. Other people promised me she would be knowledgeable, efficient/fast/timely, professional, secure, honest/trustworthy, thorough. I don't know if 5 stars is good enough? Currently residing in Orange County, you would think Paula couldn't cater to you. Lies! I'm one who didn't even want to think about the hassle my taxes would be and immediately found Paula to be well liked on Yelp (albeit for businesses, but hey, as an individual, that means my taxes would be easy. Right? That's how it works? idk.) and decided to see if she could take care of me. Turns out, distance was not an issue, Paula was super accommodating to my needs and kept in contact digitally via phone and email. Very nice! She's digitally hep. Oh and did I mention she was fast? Like, crazy fast. She texted me letting me know that my tax return was on it's way and it showed up via Priority Mail the NEXT DAY. What!! My documents were packaged beautifully too. I wish I took a picture of it! She had the works - copy of my tax return, copy of our agreement, handy little post-it arrows letting me know where to sign my money away, pre-addressed envelopes and a fancy, schmancy folder to stick it all in (looks like quality, thick cardstock-ish folder guys. This gal knows what's up). Extremely professional! Per the previous reviews, this gal is thorough. She caught money that I didn't even know existed (...even though it was for the IRS - sigh). She also gave me tips, letting me know how I got into the position I was in. Communication is not a problem for her, and because of that, my taxes were done AND FILED in what I'm pretty sure was the equivalent to one business day. read more

Paula is a wonderful EA. I personally been using her for my taxes since I first started filing. She I have found is trustworthy and honest, both of which are strong values for someone your trusting with your finances. She is very fast and through with her tax returns and bookkeeping. Paula has managed to work with my horrible organization and file keeping. If you need a good bookkeeper, tax preparer or any other accounting type labor I would highly recommend her for all of it. My wife was recently audited from a return a few years back and we'd obviously made a mistake on her tax return. I found Paula on Yelp and I'm so thankful I did. Not did Paula only school me up on our mistake but she found errors in the IRS complaint. The IRS wanted $5,000 from us but after Paula found their mistake we only owed $200. She only charged me $50 to write the letter to the IRS showing their mistake. Paula also returned all her copies of our applicable forms and the IRS decision after the matter was resolved. My wife and I used the same accountant to file taxes every year since we moved to Bakersfield in 2011. This year she decided to retire and we were forced to look for someone new. Of course like the procrastinators we are, we waited until late March to even look. None of our friends were able to refer us to anyone we approved of and so we took to Yelp and started reading reviews. All the reviews we found on Paula were positive, save for one. That one negative review made us a little hesitant to work with Paula. HOWEVER, we are so glad that we decided to go ahead and contact her in spite on our hesitation. Paula was absolutely wonderful to work with. She was quick to get back to us to schedule an appointment. She made sure to let us know everything we were supposed to bring and when we forgot several documents she was happy to do all the work she could without them and waited to file until we got her the documentation we were missing. She let us in on some information our former accountant never bothered to mention to us that allowed us to better plan for the coming year. My wife had been going through some medical issues and Paula let us know what expenses pertaining to that could be deducted. In addition she gave us advice on some better record keeping techniques in order to protect ourselves in case of any audits we may have to deal with in the future. We had a couple financial issues this last year that led us to believe we were going to end up owing money at the end of the year, but to our surprise Paula was able to get us money back from both the State and Federal government. I can honestly say that we have every intention of returning to Paula for the foreseeable future when it comes to getting our taxes done. Additionally we will be happy to refer any of our friends who are looking for an EA or are unhappy with their current accountant. Her husband does share an office with her and her son is the receptionist, but both were very personable and welcoming to my wife and I. They did have two dogs in the office at the time but both were incredibly friendly and being dog people ourselves my wife and I were happy to have them there as a bit of a distraction while we dealt with what we assumed was going to be a painful process. The entire office is in no way unprofessional, but rather just casual. Some people may be looking for a specific environment when dealing with their finances but I have never been one to judge by appearances; rather I judge by the quality of their work. I normally do my own taxes on Turbo Tax but with a house in 2013, I decided to seek the help of an actual accountant. So I checked out Yelp to see who is out there in Bakersfield and came across Paula Lang. She is very professional and friendly, and also ORGANIZED. (How would you feel if your accountant's office is messy with papers everywhere, right?). She got my taxes done within an hour (my stuff is pretty straightforward), and also gave me some tips on what can and cannot be deducted. Her price is reasonable, only a little bit more than what I would have spent for Turbo Tax (she said she's running a special right now though so I don't know how much it would be in the future). read more

Be warned!!! Paula may sound friendly on the phone, but you would NOT want to do business with her if you saw her operations. SUPER unprofessional. Her secretary staff looks to be her son and husband, and if you walk in the door you can catch them playing video games on the computer. (Shooter game). There's a dog crammed in the small office and Paula herself has repulsive hygiene and horrible smoker voice. She also talks with a very aggressive stern voice in an attempt to intimidate. I'm NOT joking here guys. I walked in and couldn't wait to leave, she will not be receiving my business. Interesting that all the positive feedback she has is over the phone customers.
