The adoption process is lengthy and thorough, as it should be, to ensure that animals in their care are placed in homes that are all that they claim to be. This process includes a home visit which allows them to get a better idea of how safe & suitable a prospective forever home could be as well as discuss any potential barriers to the adoption process.

During…read morea personal crisis, I tried to work with an agent to tind a temporary safe place for my two dogs until I could have someone pick them up. Instead of help, I was met with threats of felony charges and a complete refusal to discuss boarding or any other options because the agent "wasn't working the weekend." I was forced to surrender my dogs under extreme duress. The agent was cold, rude, and showed zero compassion for the fact that I was losing my family. This experience has left me devastated. They need to seriously re-evaluate their staff's ethics and how they handle people in vulnerable situations.

But I didn't need to worry. They were volunteers with A Purrfect Start animal rescue in Grove City. On their own time and dime, they were picking up strays to be spayed and neutered and then were returning them to the area, left ear clipped to show they'd been taken in. Purrfect Start has been helping homeless animals, both domestic and feral with food, shelter, fostering, adoptions and also spaying and neutering since the summer of 2008. Kudos to these special folks for doing the right thing. In addition, I recently adopted in one of the kittens they returned to the area. She's a sweetheart named Tawney. but I just call her Ton-Ton. 5 Stars.

My wife and I visited Colony Cats, Cat Welfare, and Cozy Cat Cottage to name a few. With all of the wonderful potential fur kids we saw we didn't see the one that we just connected with. We decided to go to Pets Without Parents as it was a rescue that we had not been to before and it was just down Indianola from our house. We had no expectations when we went to PWP other than we knew that they were a smaller rescue that was located in an older house. When we walked in we were pleasantly greeted by a volunteer and showed where the hand sanitizer (so that we could clean our hands between kitties). The individual who greeted us was figuratively knee deep in cleaning dog cages but, she was friendly and responsive when we had questions. There, in the center cage on the bottom was this beautiful kitten! Both of our hearts melted when we saw him, as he was nearly the spitting image of the cat we had just lost. The individual working the shelter that day let us know that those two kittens were meant to be picked up today by the person that was adopting them. Our hearts collectively dropped as then we knew that of the cats at PWP, these were the ones that we shouldn't get attached. We petted all the cats that we could, well save the brand new box of feral kittens! I am sure that in no time they'll be adoptable little fluffs! Despite not seeing a cat/kitten we connected to we decided to put in an application. The application was very similar to others you might see when adoption a new animals. Asked for references, job information, current pet information, veterinary contact, as well as things the adopter's view on declawing. Much to my surprise I received a call the very next day from the PWP shelter manager! I thought that the call may have been to clarify the application we had submitted but, it was not. The adoption on the beautiful kitten (that was meant to go home the day before) had fallen through. They wanted to know if we would like to come meet the little we had seen the day before. We quickly (and gleefully) went back to PWP to officially meet & pet this kitten. Cat carrier in tow, of course, just in case! If you adopt through PWP you get a wellness check up card for use at the vet where the animal has received their vaccines & spay/neuter. We took this offer so that we could get our new little friend checked out before we established him at our vet. This was great as he had a cold (that they were treating him for) and we were able to proceed to the next step in treatment, an antibiotic shot to help knock out the remainder of the kitty cold. The adoption contract at PWP is more heavily worded than others might be. There is a provision in it where if the contract is broken that PWP can seek money from the adopter who has broken the contract. It seems to me that this is included to bring home the gravity that is the responsibility of adopting a furkid. Oh, and I can verify that the folks at PWP do check references, which is great since they are working to place pets in well suited homes. P.S. Pets Without Parents is loud. With the pupsters looking for a new home in the adjacent room, any kitten/cat adopted from these guys will likely be a-okay with loud sounds and barking dogs. Train tracks also run right next door to the rescue. P.P.S. Our new kitten is fitting in purrfectly at home.

They made every effort to place Alice in our home and she has worked out wonderfully with our other dog (Ethel). This humane society is located just outside of Columbus, Ohio across the Madison County Line; literally in a corn field. When we were there we noticed the dogs all had food and water and the pens were clean. We have visited other shelters and can not say the same but this place really cares about the animals and the conditions in which they live. If you live in the Columbus area I would highly recommend a trip to Madison County.

Unfortunately, there are way too many strays and neglected animals in Columbus- but lucky for them,…read morethere are organizations such as Pet Promise to help in good, little ways with this big, ugly situation. Pet Promise is part of a national non-profit organization that has been around since 1996 and run by volunteers. This no-kill animal welfare organization does not support euthanasia, especially as a method of population control. Like so many rescue organizations, Pet Promise does not have a physical shelter. Money is being raised secure a no-kill sanctuary where rescues will be sheltered until they are found homes. Until then, but rescues are cared for in generous foster homes until they are permanently adopted. Some of the services they provide are to rescue stray animals from the streets and from animal shelters where they will be euthanized; they provide medical care to neglected, abused and injured animals; and they rehabilitate hard-to-adopt animals due to age, medical condition, or breed. I take personal interest in cats and really appreciate the efforts Pet Promise makes to provide spay and neuter services for feral cats. If you have or know of regular strays in your area, Pet Promise will provide the traps, if you are willing to catch them and take them to a designated vet. Pet promise picks up the tab for the spay or neuter. All you have to do is trap them and re-release them in the same place after the surgery. This helps to drastically reduce the number of unwanted animals in our community - and every cat counts! Pet Promise also provides financially strapped pet owners with food, medical care, and other assistance, so struggling people do not have to give up their four legged family members. I've done volunteer work for Pet promise, and will vouch that they are good group of people who care tremendously for the well-being of Columbus's furry friends.

It's crucial to note that not having a cat spayed is not a crime--especially since this was a stray The elderly took in. I told Cynthia that I like to look forward not backwards and asked if she could help with the kittens or not! Nothing about helping the Kitten was even mentioned again from her initial reply. P After that, communication stopped completely. I also checked other reviews, and it's clear this is a pattern--poor communication and no follow-through. If people are donating to this organization, they need to be held accountable, as their promise fell flat. I do not recommend them."
