This market is about 5-miles west of Green Bay, but well worth the trip whether you are a first-time local or making a Packer Pilgrimage.

When we got our packages of tenderloins we were shocked at how small they were. The largest one was 3.5oz. The total of the whole tenderloin was 2.6 lbs. When I questioned it their response was that it was a small animal and after trimming, that's what they got. Not much to trim on a tenderloin. I find it very hard to believe since we have had many venison tenderloins much larger than this. If you get an animal processed and you are getting tenderloins, I suggest you ask for the entire loin not cut.

Under Otto's leadership, this establishment sold high-quality sausages and other meats. While the quality of the products has not diminished greatly, the quality of the service has suffered. Relying on gimmicks like "Free Item Friday," instead of focusing on customer interactions and relations, I often both enter and leave disappointed. Take today, for example. It's a quiet morning. The front counter is staffed, but the employee has her back to me as I enter, I can hear her phone on speaker, and the employee didn't even acknowledge me as I entered. At first, I thought maybe she was on the phone with another customer, so I didn't think too much of it. But, when I completed my product selection and brought my items to the cash register, this woman still kept her back to me. Then I noticed she was taking a personal call. When she finally turned about to face me, she didn't even say a word to me; she just started working her scale and cash register. It was very rude and unprofessional conduct. Furthermore, she didn't thank me or anything else. It was the worst interaction with Otto's staff I have ever had. As for the availability of product, products which were normally well-stocked have been out-of-stock. This has been due, in part, to the scaling-up of operations engaged in by the owners; they're expanding their building, and production capacity, which has drawn focus away from keeping high-demand items in stock (e.g., various smoked items, hams). While most items have remained true to Otto's recipes, I have noticed a difference with some items (e.g., breakfast ham). When Otto ran the place, I never encountered bone fragments in my ground meat products - whether beef or pork. Under the new owners, too often I have found bone fragments in ground pork products. In fact, I chipped a tooth while eating a bratwurst patty because there was a large bone fragment there. This, coupled with sloppy cutting of bacon, has caused me to reduce, and in many cases cease, buying many items. Now, as for prices, they have increased dramatically since the new owners have taken over. Five years ago bacon was five dollars a pound, now it is eight and a half dollars; ground pork was three dollars a pound, now it is five; lard has doubled in price; and all other items have risen in price much, much higher than their grocery store equivalents. I tried to take the changes with a grain of salt, as they say, but I have reduced my purchases by at least two-thirds, if not three-quarters, over the last twelve months or so. As I said earlier, Otto's Meats is a sad story. P.S. I hope Otto Knoche is very much enjoying his well-deserved retirement!

We finally stopped in. You can smell the smoker going from the parking lot. There is absolutely nothing fancy about the store. 2 chest freezers and a meat counter. The attendant obviously works in the back making sausages and comes out to the store when a customer comes in. There are several varieties of bratwurst, ring bologna, beef sticks and other sausages.. There are pork chops, bacon and ham. I bought more wieners, summer sausage which is very good, and some bacon I will try tomorrow morning. The prices are higher than you might find on name brands or at big chain stores, but the quality is superior. I will continue to get sausages at Salmon's when we pass through Luxemburg going to Green Bay.

She was condescending and snarky, but thought that calling me ma'am made it okay. I told him that I made a trip out there based on the promise that a receipt didn't matter and I would get a refund. They told me the man who told me that didn't have a right to because he wasn't a manager. Well when I called that is who they had me talk to. Shouldn't they have put me through to a manager? I had told that lady "You can see it is one of your products . The plastic box it is in has the store name on. And you can see that most of the dip is still there." She said there is too much of it gone. I had told her that what was gone was what I dished onto the chips (which I also bought there) in my fridge. She ignored that I explained that, and repeated the same thing to her manager. So I had to re-explain that it was on the chips, and in order to get it back I would have to scrape it off the chips. And trust me, most of the dip was still in the plastic box thingie. I had already told the male manager that I was a regular customer who was always satisfied with the guacamole dip until now. It tasted rotten This time. I already explained this. It then he said "Why did you buy it if you don't like it?" Like I knew ahead of time it was going bad. And the female manager still was interjecting, and when I interjected he kept saying "She can if she wants." She still kept tacking on ma'am to make it appear she was polite. People were watching. But the managers didn't seem to care, as they kept the argument going. Even if I was a difficult customer-and I was in the right-the onus is on the store employees to calm the issue down and be the ones to give in. I told them that I know how customer service is supposed to be. I worked in it my entire life, and I am almost 60 years old. He said something contrary. No matter what I said, they had to have the last word, even as I walked away. I said something, he said something back, and I think I let him have the last word. I had an eerily similar experience there years ago. Otherwise most of the employees are nice. There is one woman employee there when this took place. I always liked her. There was a male employee who witnessed it, and I hope he doesn't go along with their peer pressure to please them, if they tell the owner their version. And when I bought the dip, I also bought two bags of tostadas which I now have no use for, and two plastic trays of deviled eggs. I spent a fair amount of money. The eggs were good. I sure hope they have a network of friends who will put good reviews here, to offset mine. Usually people don't waste their time putting reviews if they are satisfied, so the little praises are suspect to me.
