DeRusso's is a solid B/B+ eatery near Fort DeSoto Park. Spending the day at the beach and stopping at DeRusso's is a good combination. Pleasant wait staff and a broad menu of Italian choices. Cozy dining area and bar decorated with old New York license plates adds local color for the many New Yorkers wintering in the area. The Caesar salad was fresh iceberg lettuce with a very bland dressing. Skip it. The eggplant Parmesan entry was excellently prepared...recommended. The side dish of ziti was over cooked and the red sauce was watery with too much pepper. The pizza looked good and seemed the go to item for many folks eating in. The pizza was fairly good. The turkey sub I ordered was not. The meat was finely-sliced processed turkey, the kind that looks so shiny it seems as though it were lacquered. Slimy and tasteless, just univeral meat-like biomass. If you every got a turkey sub from 7-Eleven, or maybe a CVS on the Las Vegas strip late at night when every restaurant was closed, that's what I am talking about. I hate half of it and took the rest home to throw to some racoons that have been hanging around. I know, you are not supposed to feed them, but there is a hungry mom and about 4 kids that are so desperate for an easy lunch that I just did it. Tierra Verde, not far from St. Pete's beach and Ft. Desoto, has been our recent winter hangout and we love the area and its charm. We'll include DeRusso's as part of the charm. First of all, it's a tiny place with minimal table and bar seating, so timing is everything should you want to dine-in. With bar seating the only spots available we grabbed a couple stools and our bartender/server was pleasant and attentive. My meatball, pepperoni and onion, pizza was outstanding and I loved every bite. My wife's baked Zitti was simply to die for. We couldn't decide who ordered the better meal! The generous portions meant we both left with food. We'll soon return with visiting family and likely arrive early to ensure we find an open table. Well done DeRusso's!!! read more

Got the Veggie Stromboli packed with veggies and cheese. No skimping on the veggies like other places. Big enough for two meals. Side sauce is tasty. So we were looking to get pizza and watch the sunset from Tierra Verde but Tony n Nellos was closed due to the virus. We had seen DeRusso's passing by one time and they were open for takeout during corona. So here we are. 5 stars for being open but the food was really good too! We got some wings, antipasto salad and a DeRusso's pie. The wings were cooked perfectly and tasted awesome! Antipasto salad was huge and the dressing was delicious! DeRusso's pie was really good. Whenever we go to Ft. DeSoto beach, we stop by this small cafe for pizza. usually we take out the pizza but this time we decided to dine in. It was Sunday around 1pm and we just beat the lunch rush- fortunately. There is 1 person in the kitchen cooking for maybe 6 tables and some seats by the bar. So the sudden appearance of 15 people resulted in a 30 minute wait for our pizza. The Margherita with onions pizza does not disappoint- just be prepared to wait or call ahead for your meal. House salad was fresh and cold, dressing made in house. Other customers were enjoying very large hot Italian sandwiches. Plenty of parking out front of this small strip mall. read more

Finding good pizza in Florida is a never ending quest. Particularly if you're from NJ which has some really spectacular pizza joints. DeRusso's is from NY, so they know a good pie. It's a little bit thicker than I like, but it's got good flavor and they don't use crappy ingredients. Sauce is always nice and a little bit sweet. Cheese is of good quality as well. Derusso's is hands down the best pizza in St Pete! My boyfriend order from here on our "cheat" days, which have been more frequent as of late. The Marco's Deluxe pizza is their specialty and it is legit. Loaded with veggies and cheese with a perfect crust. All the pizzas I have trued from Derusso's have been awesome. You typically wouldn't think a pizza place would have good wings, but the 518 Trio Wings are insanely good! And I am a wing snob. I contacted DeRussos and was told if I wanted a refund I would have to call Doordash! Really stinks because they used to have the best pizza and wings around, especially on Isla del Sol. We stopped at DeRusso's pizza following an evening at the beach. We arrived at approximately 8:45 PM. They have a small dining room but we were able to sit immediately. There were 6 of us split up to two different tables. We ordered 1 Marcos deluxe and 2 white pizzas. . Food was served quickly. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. Both pizzas were very good. The crust is superb. I was not a big fan of the large tomatoes on the white pizza but that is my only complaint. This will be a go to for us when we visit Ft De Soto. read more
