Paul's Fruit Markets is a locally-owned grocery, deli, produce store with a history dating to the 1890's, when the founder trucked his locally farmed fruits and vegetables to the local open-air market. There are 4 Paul's Markets in Louisville, and I am fortunate to live very close to the Middletown location, which opened in 1996. Every summer the outdoor area is chock full of beautiful flowering plants, both annual and perennial varieties. The plants today were lush, healthy, and absolutely stunning. They were priced in line with the local nursery that we most frequent, which is a bit higher than the big box stores. However, as with most things, you get what you pay for. The grocery has a wonderful deli that includes a hot bar and a wide variety of prepared sandwiches, pastas dishes, salads, and deserts. The salad selection was extensive. I opted for a cobb salad that included chicken, bacon, egg, tomatoes, lettuce, blue cheese crumbles and dressing! It was a steal for only $6.99 and absolutely delicious. I chose the honey mustard dressing and it was a chef's kiss! Throughout the grocery area one will find a lot of specialty items such as several types of gluten-free breads, seasonal fruits, regional candies, and much, much more. So my baby wanted these mango cream cups I make for her and she loves roasted pears.. so had to pick up the fruit. It was very good. Minus how much trouble the mango pits gave me. Hell they gave me hell lol freeze the strawberries and grate them and blend with ice the. The rest is just putting into the cored mango skins. Paul's fruit market is a gem of a place located off Shelbyville Rd in Middletown, KY. The open air portion of Paul's features racks and rows of seasonal plants of countless varieties and colors. Although the prices are a bit spendy, the quality is far superior to national chain stores. Indoors is a cornucopia of fresh fruits, vegetables, meats and prepared cuisines (both hot and cold dinner/lunches). They match and are comparable in price to the larger chain grocery stores and far more fresh and appealing. My wife and I opted for prepared salads I chose the Asian one and it was great. The dressing in particular was to die for.The store is exceptionally clean but rather small and difficult to navigate in such tight quarters. Rumor has it they plan to expand the facility. Parking can also be a beast so it is best to find a spot in the adjacent strip mall near the UPS store. It is so worth it though. read more

Parking lot can be kind of hectic during busy hours but other than that, I honestly haven't been in to a Paul's I didn't like. Fresh produce & a lot of healthy options made easy. I mostly use this location for the deli sandwiches but really enjoy the brief time waiting for my sandwich to peruse the shelves . Great merch. The kiosk to order a sandwich, wrap or burrito is easy to use, and the sandwiches are made to order very quickly and packaged neatly. Service with a smile at the deli and the cashier. read more

Had fruit, veggie and dessert tray delivered today, along with macaroni salad and they do not disappoint!!! As usual everything is extremely fresh and delicious! We have moved around alot and ordered trays from many different places and Paul's is hands down the best! We will continue to order trays online and their market will remain our go to for fresh meat etc..... oh and the the folks that work there are just amazing, nicest people you could ever meet!! read more

I go to Paul's Fruit Market at least 3 times per week. I love the service and the selection of food. I usually get the cranberry chicken salad which I love. Lately, I've noticed there is twice as much celery in the salad and fewer cranberries. I honestly wish they would make the chicken salad with and without celery. The celery chunks are so big. I pick them out before eating the salad. This chicken salad is expensive, but I want to continue buying it, but I wish they would put a reasonable amount of cranberries in the salad and less celery chunks. read more

Love this place, apparently a Louisville staple. Lots packed in a small store, full produce section, prepared foods, salads numerous dressings, oils, cooking needs etc. they have a full deli as well as a butcher area where you can get steaks and other. Definitely plan on 15 minutes to wander around the store to check it out the first time you go. Produce was very good the day I went. They have seasonal flowers and Holiday items as well. read more

Paul's is one of the Louisville mainstays that I'm surprised I hadn't reviewed before but what's there to say? It's Paul's. Everyone in town knows Paul's. I caveat: everyone in town knows Paul's but not everyone in town knows it as a market. For me and my crew, Paul's is synonymous with fruit baskets, fundraisers, centerpieces, and the holidays. You can't Christmastime in Louisville without Paul's. And so, for the first time in my adult life and not conscripted into service by band/orchestra/choir, I partook of Sam's fruit basket goodies for holiday gifts. I wasn't venturing out much and wanted something that was local, thoughtful, useful, and delicious. Paul's. But I veered off the usual path and went for a box rather than a basket. What can I say? I'm a rebel. The box was well-apportioned and well-received. Packed full of the typical good Paul's fruit goodies, it also came with cookies, crackers, cheese (!), and those little strawberry candies no one likes but are everywhere you turn. I liked that the cheese was local and paired well with the crackers (not all cheeses are for all crackers; it's a fact). I was a satisfied giver. My giftee was a satisfied recipient. Paul's is what we all know Paul's to be. Crazy thing about all this: despite being a native, I don't know that I've ever stepped foot in one of their locations. Maybe I need to fix that. Flowers drew me in. Periodically people in online plant groups mention Paul's, but I was disappointed in what they had available. Prices were high and plants were not as healthy looking as I'd hoped. Inside is a small grocery and deli. I appreciate how you will find local or Kentucky Proud items getting shelf space. That, along with their homemade refrigerated items (queso, hummus, guacamole, etc), make Paul's unique. You're going to pay higher dollar for the items here so be picky. One employee was outright hostile when I asked her not to mix chicken with beef when bagging. I tried to be polite and she got really snippy with me. And then she pursued me out into the parking lot. They need to get rid of her. I work too hard for my money to have my groceries be cross contaminated. read more

Currently sitting in their parking lot eating lunch (got a sandwich, Arnold Palmer, and a slice of banana hummingbird cake and I had to stop eating my slice to make this review bc this is the best piece of cake I have ever had in my life. When I say it is so full of flavor and it's so soft it falls apart like it is like eating a cloud. Sandwich is also great and it's also one of the best Arnold palmers I've drank. They have lots of specialty items which I love including bakery items like cookies, cake and pies! Their fruit is always fresh and many times you can taste them before you buy them. They have dried fruits and candies by the pound too. Their prices are reasonable too considering they are a small fruit market. From the outside this place looks like a small nursery.. and I was intrigued... And while they do have a fair amount of flowers and plants and herbs and such out front, I was absolutely taken aback once I walked inside. Its a little Hippie Grocery Store! I ordered a ham sandwich at the deli and their ordering system is odd. They have a small tablet but before I saw it the guy at the corner asked me what I wanted as it wasn't super busy. After ordering my sister and I shopped for groceries and afterwards went to grab my sandwich. A woman asked what I needed and I mentioned I was waiting on a sandwich and she just said ok. Another woman asked me the same thing (both were working in the deli) and when I responded she told me they did not have any sandwiches made it being made. Then a young guy asked me what I wanted. I told him I ordered 10-15 minutes ago but was told there was no sandwich for me. He asked again and I told him his coworker just told me there were no sandwiches and I'll just move on, no big deal. But he became quite rude and so apparently he must've hid the sandwich because he knew where it was while the others did not. It was not well organized and it was a misunderstanding with his coworker but he was incredibly rude, but sandwich was good. They could do some serious customer service training! read more

I have supported Pauls Market for a decade. Then I found out that their veggies and fruits aren't locally grown and not organic or natural. Very disappointed since they are expensive. Also, Pauls Markets does not hire people of color. I had my well-educated son apply for a job with his two white friends and both white friends got hired, not my black son. I have never seen a black person work at both Pauls market over a 15 year period and the customer service isn't good. The workers are cold. I Shop at Garden Gate on Breckenridge Lane. Never again. The lack of professionalism of their staff is off the charts bad and even after writing their management about the sexist and racist comments made during a recent customer experience, there has been no response.
