We tried Paul's because we read excellent reviews before booking our reservation/ everything was true. Our Saturday night schnitzel meal was so good ( we split/ huge portions!) that we came back for Sunday brunch. On Saturday night, the schnitzel was accompanied by the best spatzle I have ever tasted! Plus a lovely small salad with fresh ingredients and a delicious dressing. For Sunday brunch we both had Egg Benedict's, one with spinach the other with ham, on a potatoe pancake. Paul's delivers such quality food and service, we ate dinner here three times on our almost 2 week trip. German is not typically a cuisine I'd seek out, so I'm happy I researched Paul's ahead of time and gave it a shot. The first time we went, the only other people in the dining room ended up being an uncle, aunt and cousin my husband had not met yet - true story! Small towns, lol. During my three visits I had the chicken cordon bleu, hunter schnitzel and the cafe de paris schnitzel. Every bite was fantastic. Hot, made to order, and fresh. Entrees come with a fresh and delicious salad. If the potato salad is a special, get it! The only downfall to Paul's is that they do not serve alcohol. You can, however, bring your own beer or wine for a small corkage fee. Paul's has a dining room as well as a large patio that overlooks Main St. It's located in a renovated house with tons of character. There is plenty of parking across the street. My very picky father in law loved Paul's. In fact, I've never seen him eat so much food in the 20+ years I've known him. If I'm ever in Liverpool again, I'll eat here. Someone in the kitchen here loves me; and that someone is Chef Hans. My goodness, what good food. From time to time Hans comes out with the wait-staff carrying a plate of his meticulously prepared deliciousness. Our biggest regret is that we are only traveling through and cannot come back again and again to try each and every dish. read more

There was only one server covering the entire restaurant so things were a bit frazzled and slow. She was a good server, just too much to do! But I still give it five stars because the food was phenomenal! My wife's Liverpool: eggs, German potatoes, sausage and bacon were fantastic! It comes out in a very unique high handled skillet! My cauliflower bowl was unique and unbelievably delicious! So cheesy and scrumptious!! If I lived nearby, this would be my go-to place!!! If you like really good food, come! Who would have thought you'd find German restaurant in Liverpool? They serve breakfast until 4PM but I decided to go with the wurst sausage. The dish comes with a really tasty salad in a cup? and some of the yummiest fries. Now the sausage was a bit disappointing actually but I tried a piece of my friend's pizza(it's something else on the menu but it looks like pizza) and it was really delicious. Got so full at the end did't even have space for dessert. I even think Paul came out a couple of times to ask us how was the food. The restaurant also has a nice patio to sit outside on a sunny day. I think the place is awesome cause everything seems to be home cooked right there. read more

Oh my.... The place to eat!!! We came to experience to East Coast and eat seafood.... which was amazing and I never thought I would say I might need a break but I am so glad I did. Home made bread and home made German sausage had a nice smokey flavour. The jams are also home made here too. I've gone here at least 20 times in the last 4 years. Food tastes rich and the portion sizes are giant. What else is giant? The shit you'll be taking afterwards. I had breakfast here today and shit 7 times at work tonight, nearly 5-6 hours of nonstop pain. This isn't the first time I've had diarrhea from this place. It's EVERY TIME no miss. We popped in here for breakfast on a Friday morning. My husband and I both thought it was one of the best breakfasts we'd had in a LONG time. Nothing fancy but homemade and delicious. We decided to split the Liverpool Breakfast after seeing another order come out and realizing how huge it is. We added a second piece of bread (worth doing, as it's homemade). The strawberry jam was the best I've ever had. Decor is very quirky but food was delicious and price was super reasonable. Will definitely be back when we're in the area again! read more

Came for lunch based on the few but positive Yelp reviews. Wife had a version of German flatbread pizza and I had a sausage with sauce, German potatoes and a side salad of corn Mobley's, peppers and feta cheese. Both were substantial but not excessive size portions of good quality and taste. Service is progressional and prompt and the seating on the front deck on a wonderful day very pleasant. Main shortcoming is lack of beer or wine for a German-themed restaurant - just pop, tea/coffee and juices which were the only menu items that were rather steeply priced. If the beverage situation was fixed, I would have scored a 5. If you don't drink, Paul's is already a solid choice. read more

I lived in Germany for 5 years & have visited a number of times, the last being this past MAY/JUNE. I've never seen curry on a German restaurant menu. Street food, but not restaurant food. We asked for sauerkraut, for my schnitzel, to liven up the very flat taste of everything but your waitress said you had none! Belittling bad reviews kind of reenforces my thought that many of the positive reviews were written by you, friends, or employees. There couldn't possibly have been that many people with no taste. Your breakfast may be good, stick to that, 'cuz your dinners are lacking. (Your nixing & belittling my comments on FB prompted me to elaborate here, on yelp, where it stays & counts.). Homely, unpretentious atmosphere. It feels like you're at a relative's home (lots of decorations and collectibles). The venue is unlicensed but that's okay. Paul, the proprietor, greeted us with glasses of holiday spiced gluhwein. The salad, served in glass mugs, was well dressed and delicious. The currywurst was great. The potatoes, cooked with bacon and lots of fat, were top notch (still thinking about them a day later). Finally, the "Cafe de Paris" (schnitzel with mushroom gravy) was incredibly rich and perfectly seasoned. Highly recommend that one. All freshly made (you could hear the pounding of the meat tenderizer). Oh, and a very good cranberry cream cake which was made earlier that day. On our drive down to Liverpool, knowing we'd get in around lunchtime, we scanned to Internet for well reviewed restaurants - settling on Pauls. Entering the place was...rustic, but I'm a fan of rustic, and we sat as two other tables sat. Our matronly waitress was very pleasant but clearly overwhelmed by having 3 tables at once (should have been our first clue). Fairly simple menues(one breakfasts German) the other a variety of schnitzels. Ordering took awhile - should have been out second clue - and the we settled in to wait, and wait,and wait. Finally, over an hour after we sat 2 of our four meals came - my schnitzel and my sons breakfast skillet. After 5 minutes we started to tuck in, going slowly and sharing our dishes with my wife and daughter. Food was amazing. 1/2 hour later, other dishes still not here (and after searching for our waitress) we decide were done. Food arrives as my family leaves and I wait for the bill. Chef owner comes out, no apology and demands that I pay for the entire order, despite the fact that they left, then threatens to call the police when I tell him I'm only paying for what was delivered and consumed. I worked in restaurants for close to 10 years and am a regular purveyor of a meal eaten out. While the food was great (this side of awesome and a 4) - the attitude and service (0-1) ruined the whole experience. read more

Were skeptical of traditional German food, but growing up with it and travelling to Germany many times, I must say this place is a GEM! It should be a destination because true authentic anything is hard to find in these parts. We had the Currywurst and potatoes, which were to die for! Curry sauce impeccable.,,better than some I had in Germany. Sausages, homemade! Tasty, fresh and bit of spice. Hubby had Liverpool Breakfast which was marvelous! Breads fresh made, potatoes, the BEST in the Maritimes. Jams and jellies also homemade and super. Coffee, superb. Can't wait until they get their license because with my Currywurst, I was sooo craving a glass of Riesling. This is NOT fast food. We wandered into Paul's looking for lunch one rainy day while shopping n Liverpool. Decorated in European fashion, with lots of interesting knick knacks, we were warmly greeted and told to sit where we wanted. Paul is the chef, and his wife handles the customers and service. Looking over the menu, it was hard to decide because it all looked good. We ordered the club sandwich and curry sausage. Wow! What a lovely surprise. The sandwich was huge, on homemade perfectly toasted bread, with bacon, turkey and "salad" with a secret sauce. My husband had the sausage, which came with perfectly browned potatoes. He also got some type of side salad, which seemed to include cucumbers in a mayo sauce. It was all so excellent! Paul came out and personally checked on us during the meal. I had the blueberry cream cake for dessert, even though I was stuffed from the sandwich. Had to try it! Lovely creamy filling with blueberries in a light sponge cake. We really hope Pauls stays part of this community! Will definitely be going back for dinner. read more
