Seafood Chowder
David R.

Nice cozy restaurant tucked away in an Inn. I had dinner here at the recommendation of my hotel employee. Lane's has a couple of vegetarian options. I started with a Hell Bay English Ale, locally brewed, and very hopsy. I was tempted by the Seafood Feast, but knew tonight was not a good night to order a lot of food. I was drawn to the Quinoa, Kale & Blueberry Salad. And it was very good. Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. For the main course I opted for the seafood chowder. It was loaded. Great flavors and chunks of lobster, scallops and haddock. Great quality food!

Cup of seafood chowder just loaded with fish and scallops and lobster.

Wow what a surprise we had when we started eating. Sooo yummmy! I ordered the beet salad and the seafood chowder. The salad was loaded with cashews, goat cheese and beets and came with a thick uber rich balsamic reduction vinaigrette. Wow lip smacking, literally!! I loved it so much the server brought me a lid for the container to take it home. The seafood chowder is loaded with fish, scallops and lobster and came with a freshly baked mini scone biscuit. So tender. Hubby ordered fish n chips and he got 2 huge servings of fish very lightly breaded just enough to have a crispy coating and the French fries were cooked to the perfect ratio of crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Overall we would highly recommend this little spot. The views of the River from restaurant are so romantic and every other Friday they play live Irish toe stomping tunes! I hope you enjoy this little hide away as much as we did!

Great food, great ambiance, great beer and cider selections. Lovely pit stop if traveling south shore in NS. Service is good, too.

The Naked Oyster - The Captain's Chowder- amazing!

The Naked Oyster is only about a year old, located in a great space along Mahone Bay's main drag,…read morewith a open and inviting atmosphere and a great patio overlooking the bay. Service was excellent, professional and quick. Maybe too quick, our appetizers arrived before our drinks. The menu is innovative but still traditional. Fish and Chips, mussels, oysters, chowder along with burgers and sandwiches, including a lobster roll on a locally made croissant. But also Pad Thai and a Bulgogi Rice Bowl. All of our dishes were wonderful. But what most impressed me is the extensive gluten free menu, complete with a fryer and gf batter for the fish & chips and fish tacos.

Fortunately, the owner of our Inn told us that The Naked Oyster recently opened and is a sister restaurant to Rebecca's. What a beautiful experience it was! It was very busy but there are several places to sit comfortably outside. The Adirondack chairs were very nice, with a view of Mahone Harbor. After a bit of a wait, we were seated. The service was excellent. I can't imagine I'll ever experience a more delicious chowder than their Captain's Chowder, a creamy clam broth with generous portions of scallops, mussels and haddock. We also had a half dozen local oysters that were perfect. High marks for the Caesar Salad too. I would put this on the "can't miss" list for the area.
