As someone who prides herself as having tasted a variety of native flavors from Chicago to New Orleans as well as several authentic international cuisines, it is sometimes disappointing to come to a smaller place like Kankakee and have a serious flavor crisis! So, when I was finally introduced to "Paul's Place", I really did not expect too much. But this place has rendered this skeptic into a believer. I have visited this place 2 more times since my first visit (because I feared that my initial low expectation led me to set a low bar for their food). But I am very excited to admit that this place is legit in terms of deliciousness. I was seriously surprised by the inclusion of alfalfa sprouts in the Paul's burger but they definitely know what they're doing. It is a good pairing for the 1000 island dressing and the bacon. I highly recommend this burger. Also, if they give you a choice between battered or crinkly cut fries, get the battered....delish! Your heart may grumble but your palate with forever be in your debt! Their chicken wing dinner seems to be a customer fave, I think.....the chicken is not spiced or anything but the batter is pretty tasty. It is simply seasoned, I believe, but having had several simply spiced chicken out there, the size of their wings is chosen well which allows them to be perfectly battered and cooked. So even when you're tasting plain chicken, every bite of the accompanying batter gives it a nice flavor and crispiness. Their garlic shrimp is not too overpowering either. It is not the best I've had but it is pretty good! I would also recommend the triple chocolate cheesecake if they have it. I don't think it was made in house, but it is good nonetheless (whatever vendor it is from). Also, they have a wide beer selection available in this area, I believe. All in all, a very pleasant experience. I highly recommend this place. With its very affordable price range, huge portions, and good flavors, I would recommend putting it on your speed dial! It'll come in handy any time you want to go out for some casual breakfast/lunch/dinner or just want to order for pick-up because it is a lazy day for cooking.

Can't beat the Beer selection here

In the years since its demise, the building has housed several restaurants. Perhaps the most notorious replacement was Piggies(or something like that name). The owner in the 1980's painted the building pink as an act of defiance against the village. Later, the owner took it one step further and set fire to the building to gather Insurance proceeds. He was convicted of arson in local circuit court. Well, as I said, a few months ago, I decided to try the new restaurant occupying this classic downtown space on Broadway. I was relatively optimistic as I entered the restaurant with a friend. We selected a booth with an excellent view of the then operating dry cleaner across the street. I chose as my meal a basic breakfast staple: French toast... So, nothing fancy, like Eggs Benedict. When my French toast arrived, at first, I thought the waitress had brought the plate to the wrong table, because I did not really recognize the food on my plate as French toast. Well, when questioned, the waitress admitted that the plate she brought to my table was in fact the order I had placed. So, I settled in and began to eat the food on my plate. It resembled in some ways French toast, I suppose. But, in critical ways, related to texture and taste what I tried to eat was not French toast. Rather, it was somebody's idea of a concoction that built upon the concept of French toast. Perhaps that was a good artistic idea, but it did not satisfy my need for French toast. I have not been back.

I would give a ZERO star if I could!…read more I went to Lori's for the first time yesterday and will never go back. My daughter and i went there for breakfast. My coffee cup had lipstick on it that i thoroughly wiped away and wiped it with alcohol wipes from my car. Already, my initial thoughts were negative. As we sat in our booth near the front door we looked around. Their booths are very aged and in horrible condition with ripped seat covers. We then got our food. It tasted 'ok' to say the most. About an hour and a half later our stomachs started hurting and cramping very bad. We were on our way home about 45 miles south of kankakee and I had to use the bathroom. My daughter waited for me in the car for about 20 minutes while I dealt with explosive diarrhea. I will NEVER return to this place and i recommend you think about it too before you just go there. As of typing this review I am waiting for labs to come back. If it comes back as food poisoning I will be filing a lawsuit against the establishment for both negligence AND breach of warranty.
