I consider this one of the best breakfast spots in Illinois in its price range. I believe Gordan Ramsey would give Yolks and Berries a great review. Somehow, Someway, they make simple items like scrambled eggs and (buttery) hash browns taste better than the other guys. For the hungry man, I recommend the butcher's omelet or the meat lover's skillet. Deservedly so, this joint is usually busy, but the tableside atmosphere is relaxed. Food is delivered promptly, and your coffee cup will be refilled. The service is outstanding and competent. One reason is that many employees have worked there for over 10 years, and many for over 15. I am now a regular and visit once or twice a week. P.S. If I could give less stars I would. We arrived as a party of 9 and were asked to wait 20 min. 20 turned to 40. When I went to check in I noticed new groups were being seated. I don't know the logic behind putting in others instead of setting up a table for the bigger group with longest wait. I offered to break the group into two and was offered a singles booth and a round table seating four. Great math! Doesn't add up. When served we got wet eggs (not cooked all the way) and frozen hash brown- no literally it was not cooked under the nicely looked top layer. When order was being taken the server was RUDE. I stay in Kankakee ever so often to visit family and when I do. I like to eat at Yokes and Berries. My experience was very bad this last time because of the manager. We had several issues with our food. My pancakes were cold and skillet was warm not hot. The waitress took the food back right away to fix the situation. As we were eating, my brother-in-law bit down on a burn piece of egg. He lifted the crambled eggs and they were completely burned on the bottom, Burned, I mean black. I have never seen burnt scrambled eggs. We showed our waitress and she was shocked as well. She took the eggs back and you could see she was telling the cook sternly about the food. While she was fixing the situation, my stepson could not break his omelet with the fork because they were burned on the bottom as well. BURNED! When the waitress returned we told her and she took them back as well. My family was looking at me because I picked this place. She returned with the food and we finished dining. The manager never came once to address anything that was happening at our table. We were not offered anything for the multiple issues we were subjected to. We did not ask for anything. We finished our food. I ate very little of my skillet because I filled up on pancakes and ham while I waited for my skillet. This caused me to box my skillet to go. The skillet comes with gravy and I ate a bit of it. I asked if I could have the gravy topped off, which is literally no more than a tablespoon. The waitress said sure but when she returned they told her no and I would have to pay for the extra gravy. That was the straw, are you kidding after all we had been through. I asked for the manager, I mean, COLD AND BURNT FOOD, I was not offered any comp or anything but I had to pay for an extra tablespoon of gravy. The waitress went back and returned with more gravy but the manager was not able to come because he was BUSY. I insisted and then the host came, we explained the situation. She returned with a $10 comp and offered us 2 mugs of which we declined. I do not want a reminder of this situation by looking at these mugs. We waited and still no manager. The manager never came to address our issues. I don't want to think it was because we were black regardless to the fact that we were 2 of the tables that had black patrons. I am a manager as well and I have to deal with conflict with customers. If you can not deal with customers, then maybe he should not have went into management. I was not loud, I did not use bad language but I wanted our concerns heard. I have never heard of a manager ignoring customers like that. I will never return to Yokes and Berry. read more

Stopped by on a Sunday around noon. The parking lot was full so we expected a wait, but we seated immediately! Food came out quick after our order was taken within a few minutes of sitting down. The mimosas were generous and fairly priced at $6.99 each. The waffle was $9.99 and my friend said it was basically perfect, 5/5. My crepes were perfectly cooked. I feel like there was something missing to the hollandaise sauce and I would have loved more mushrooms, but it was still a good choice. Despite being very busy, it was quiet yet lively inside the restaurant. You do pay at a check out counter and that line was pretty long but moved efficiently enough. Rather it's for a family outing, solo or a quick in and out meal. Nice setting and casual atmosphere. I've dine in a few times but this specific time I ordered take out. On a nice Friday morning, my fiancé and I wanted to treat ourselves with a nice breakfast. Even though the restaurant was as busy, the hostess and serving staff busted their butts with smiles still on their faces !! Started the morning with a mimosa and it was very tasty, and large! Our server Tara is super kind and energetic. She really made the experience more enjoyable!! The restaurant itself is not loud, it's casual, and very cute. You can tell it's a family owned place that is kept with love and care. Our food took about 10 minutes to get made and arrive at our table. So not long at all! I've been coming to this place for years and sadly I've had an experience here with the host Mary P. that was very disappointing and publicly embarrassing. Not just that! I have been a loyal customer for over 15 Years that comes to about 720 visits with not one complaint and and today I had the a terrible sandwich. I also paid $36 for 2 sandwiches and 2 drinks. My waitress wasn't feeling well and it showed in her service. For that amount of money for a meal, please give her a paid day off so we can enjoy a good meal, truly i understand back pain. I'm so disappointed in you as a business. I talked to the owners partner, she should have taken sandwich off bill. I always...ALWAYS tell them what a great meal and service we have had. The service, was horrible!!!! I ordered a steak skillet which came with pancakes. My guest only order toast however I received the steak skillet but the guest did not receive anything until my pancakes came 20 minutes later then it took another 10 to 15 minutes before I receive the syrup and the butter for the pancakes by this time, the pancakes were cold. I asked for new pancakes. The waitress brought me warmed up pancakes that have been 15 minutes. I didn't eat the pancakes I asked for a manager. After waiting for five minutes for Manager, I stopped a different waitress and she went to go get the manager and was told by the son's owner who was managing the restaurant that day that he didn't have time to come over and speak to me. It was not a thought for the waitress to come any of the food, even though she knew that this was not professional service. Therefore, I went up to the desk after she gave me my full bill and spoke with owner's son who did not find anything wrong with the information I had just provided him with in regards to my experience he didn't offer to comp any of the bill however, I made it clear that I was not paying that entire bill which of course angered him. He asked me. How much did I want off the bill though I should've asked for the entire meal to be comped. I only asked for two dollars off which of course he obliged then and only then did he apologize for the experience I had. I feel if I had been the same races he was I would not have experienced this type of behavior. And last, but not least the cost for this teeny tiny skillet was overpriced and the food taste horrible there was no flavor just steak, sitting on top of hashbrowns and egg sitting on top of the steak no flavor in any part of that meal . read more

This place was super busy on a later Sunday morning, rightfully deserved! Everything was perfect from the service to the food. The besties and I went here because the previous breakfast establishment we frequented is quite problematic, so we will not be supporting them anymore. On to more important topics, this place was simply immaculate. I got oatmeal with bananas, strawberries, blueberries, and granola. I even added a good-sized glob of my own peanut butter because I wanted to add some protein and every morning I incorporate some form of peanut butter into my oatmeal anyway. They even added a tiny cup of brown sugar and milk on the side in case you wanted to make it even sweeter/creamier. The other besties got heartier meals than me. I tried french toast, an egg scramble, and some pancakes from the bestie's plates. I don't know how they make their pancakes but they were super delicious! I love when things are doughy and there was a small small part of one pancake that had that consistency and I fell in love right then and there. Also, the service was exceptional too.
