I wanna start off by saying I've never really been dissatisfied with the results of the haircuts I've had there. Quite the opposite. However, four times in the last year I have been called within an hour of my appointment only to be told at the stylist wouldn't be able to make it in, and they would need to reschedule, and they would not be able to accommodate for a cut that day. I understand that people have personal lives, and once or twice if someone can't make it in, I certainly understand. But four times is a trend that I just can no longer ignore. Again, the service is fine, but if you rely, like I do, on being able to count on a haircut at a certain time, then I'm afraid that they may fall short. If you can afford to be a little more flexible with your time this might not be an issue, but just take it under consideration. Now I'm off to Sport Clips. Wish me luck. read more

This is definitely the worst cut I've ever had, its HORRIBLE. The ends are uneven and jagged and I have this huge chunk missing on the back of my head. I didn't realize how bad it was until I got home and looked in the mirror. I will now have to pay for another haircut (SOMEWHERE ELSE) to try and fix the damage that was done. Pavo eventually offered a credit for another haircut which I declined. I'm not confident that they could fix the damage and that it may get worse. I received several rude messages essentially saying that this never happens at Pavo and they stand by their work. Erin! I've never loved a hair cut so much! She cut my mid-back length hair with such finesse to take the weight out without creating choppy and visible layers. I love the subtle movement and smooth flow. And love that I can put it in a light braid with almost no pieces sticking out. Erin was sweet and friendly and the Aveda treatments were so lovely. The atmosphere of this salon is professional and relaxing. I'm so pleased and will 100% be returning to her! Returned several months later and have to take off at least two stars for this experience :( My stylist graciously asked if I minded not getting a wash and blow dry because there was a scheduling error with the next client. I said it was fine because I didn't want her to be rushed cutting... but I wish she had done so because my hair was wavy and textured from a day-old style... one side ended up longer than the other... there are awkward choppy layers, not subtle and blended as I requested, as she did so beautifully for me several months ago... I asked for 2 maybe 3 inches off my elbow length hair...and now have tons of stringy unblended pieces falling out of my ponytail... Pretty disappointed in the lack of attention to detail this time. read more

The young and inexperienced front staff did not attempt to reschedule me with anyone else. Phone calls only go to a call center who are unhelpful and send your calls to voicemails. I never really make a point to write reviews but it's well deserved this time. Today I put complete trust in my stylist, Mary Cullen, to take my hair from "middle of my back" drab to an "in-with-the-times", below the chin bob. I just told her, "Do whatever you think will look the best." It was to the point where I was about to do the unthinkable and cut it myself, so she understood how desperate I was to have a positive change. She got busy and took as many steps as she needed to make sure it turned out just right. First, she just cut off about 8 inches, then washed it, then cut a bit more while it was wet, then dried it, then straightened it with a straight iron (after politely asking if that was okay with me), and finally cut a bit more of it while it was dry. She spent more than my allotted time (thank goodness there was nobody scheduled directly after me) and I know it's because she genuinely wanted it to be as close to perfect as possible. This was a drastic change and I feel like the best version of myself, thanks to her. I even had to give her a hug. I would 100% recommend Mary to all of my friends and family. She's just awesome all around. read more

Had my haircut here this morning by Kaitlyn. She was previously at a different salon so I was new to Pavo. The building is beautiful and staff is friendly. It is pretty typical for an Aveda salon. I've spent the past four years since I moved to Memphis bouncing around from salon to salon, and I've inevitavly left each one feeling somewhere on the "meh" to "just don't cry" spectrum. I've tried friends' recommendations, accosted women with great hair in the street, pored over Insta and Yelp reviews, even done zip code searches for salons in ritzy areas (there's a Lulu AND an Apple store there? It must be good, right? Wrong. So wrong.). Go figure, the place--and stylist--I'd been searching for was right in my backyard. I picked Pavo on a whim, literally sitting in my car in a parking lot and dejectedly picking at my split ends, telling myself that I had to get a damn haircut before my vacation, and sincerely considering Googling Great Clips rather than suffer the anticipation of trying a new stylist. I picked Pavo because I kind of wanted to try their shampoo. Truth. I called and they had an opening for the next day. Great sign, right? Actually - YES. In fact, hell to the yes. When I tell you that the universe aligned and the heavens opened up when Merideth walked into the waiting area, I am not kidding. She was fun and bright and bouyant and laser-focused on my hair--how did I wear it most often, how did it react in humidity, how did it like its eggs in the morning--and gave recommendations and tips and honest feedback with the ease and grace of a physician ballerina who also happens to be your best friend. The products she chose were magic, her tips invaluable, and the cut stellar. I'm obviously a huge fan, and can't recommend this place highly enough. read more

I've been to Pavo a few times and had decent experiences. It's clean and cute and for most people probably a good experience. However, I will not be going back. I did my research, and I was really excited to see Meredith. A lot of looks on her instagram were similar to what I wanted to go for. In our consultation, I had a few directions I was thinking about going, and for most of what I was asking for she basically said those were not cool anymore and/or would specifically look bad on me. I felt really vulnerable and shut down which must have shown because toward the end she told me to relax and be less uptight. It was not a bad haircut in the end, but in no way was it what I asked for. I felt talked down to for asking to try something new, and I still feel really insecure about the whole visit. So she does good work but I would avoid her if you want to find a welcoming stylist who will collaborate with you and encourage you. read more

I made a last minute appointment with Meredith after not having a trim in almost a year. I've never had a haircut when I walked out without thinking, "oh well.. it will grow back and I'll try someone else." I always keep my hair super long and never get my hair styled due to it always being so frizzy and unruly, and multiple stylists insisted I never get layers in my hair because they simply wouldn't work out. However, when I came in I explained all of this to Meredith and she said she would love to give me layers. I told her the length I wanted it and the whole time she asked me details about my hair and gave so many great tips. She even took the time to show me how to style it. My hair has never been cut so beautifully and she framed it perfectly around my face. She literally put life back into my hair and the Aveda products she suggested for my hair have completely eliminated the frizz and heaviness. My hair has never looked so good! I was recommended by a friend. My first appt was canceled due to the stylist being sick which is understandable. During the time I could get a new appointment I received a full head of highlights from another stylist. I loved the results just needed to tone down the front with a few low lights. Day of visit discussed service with stylist for the low lights and some toner to blend in the color. Love the low lights but the towner he used covered all of my fresh highlights that were not a month old. I expressed by concern with the stylist and he was not at all phased by by unhappiness. He did not say he would fix his mistake he only suggested I make an appointment to have my highlights done. To pay for a service again that I had just received less than a month ago. not gong to happen. I called the shop back to ask him how can this be fixed he suggestion thru the receptionist to me was to come in to the shop and purchase their products to try and remove the toner. I was also told he would call me to discuss and I have not heard form him. Very disappointed in the customer service/concern for how he removed all my highlights. I was so excited about my hair and loving my full head of highlights. The low lights he provided in the front were great but that s all the color I have. The rest f my hair is just black. I'm BEYOND happy I made the decision to go to Pavo. Meredith did my hair and she was amazing. She listened to my concerns and asked so many questions about my hair and answered thoughtfully. HORRIBLE!!! I can't even give a star. Waste of time and $250 to leave looking like my hair wasn't even TOUCHED with color. Additionally, when I had to call the salon five days later to talk to the manager (who had been given a note to call me), all she did was make excuses for the stylist (I won't mention his name). EVERY thing I mentioned that went wrong, she made an excuse. She said they had planned to correct my hair for free as I initially had made an appointment for the next week, but I had been told I would have to pay again (she said this wouldn't have been the case). I found another GREAT salon the next day (Gould's in downtown) where the girl did EXACTLY what I wanted. Given that I had showed her the SAME photos I showed at Pavo, this is evidence they would have NOT fixed my hair to how I had wanted it as they couldn't do it the first time yet Gould's did. Finally, the stylist apparently lied to his manager because she told me I was told all the costs DURING the appointment, which was NOT the case. I was only told the cost of one product I planned to buy, and that is because I asked. No other costs were mentioned to me until I was finished and at the register. My hair was MORE blonde and balayage BEFORE Pavo's touched my hair, and I walked out like nothing was done to it. read more

I moved to Memphis about one and half years ago and was struggling to find someone to do my hair the way I like it. I've tried multiple salons many very expensive and highly recommended. No one had been able to provide me the hair color I was really looking for. I came to Pavo and Grace was my stylist/color specialist. She was polite, professional and very kind. Although we spoke briefly about what I wanted, I didn't communicate it clearly and the initial finished product although very nice was not exactly what I wanted. I rescheduled and returned to the Salon about 1 week later. She was very gracious and I communicated more clearly the second time. She not only met my expectations but far exceeded them. MY HAIR WAS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED.. EVEN BETTER THAN I IMAGINED!! She did her best and had a wonderful attitude. I also spoke with one of the owners who personally called me and took his time to find out exactly how i wanted my hair prior to my 2nd appointment. I am beyond impressed with the professionalism, excellence and kindness of the people who work at Pavo. I have finally found a salon and hair colorist who not only meet, but exceed my expectations. If you are looking for a pleasant salon focused on excellence and guest satisfaction, and want a color specialist who will surpass your expectations. I recommend Grace Mills at Pavo Salon.
