Dabbles is the best! The building is a cute house in Overton Square that was remodeled inside. There's plenty of parking and an accessible ramp in the front. Once you walk in, the waiting room and place is great inside. They have cool art on the walls and plenty to look at and talk about. They even had a stack of books for sale in the front by a local author/artist that were alphabet picture books of local Memphis spots. They embody supporting local. Their service is amazing. I've never spent a bunch of time waiting. Everyone there is super friendly. I tend to have some awkward silences when getting haircuts but everyone there is so kind and welcoming that's never been a problem. I've also gotten the best looking cuts of my life there and they've been consistent. I've seen a few stylists and they're all great. They're also super affordable for men's cuts. This place has transformed something I hate doing (getting a haircut) into something I look forward to. I can't recommend them enough. read more

I started coming here because many people from my job really love this place. Once you walk inside you will feel like you will never be quite as cool as everyone and you probably never will. However, they are all very nice and welcoming and they really know how to cut hair. Getting my haircut is an unnecessarily stressful experience for me but they always do a great job. It's been about 2-3 weeks since I went to Stephanie at Dabbles to get my hair colored and styled and every time I look in the mirror I feel a little wave of satisfaction at finally finding an awesome stylist. Stephanie really took the time to understand the direction I wanted to take my hair, and she was upfront about what the costs would be. I wasn't too worried about the expense on this particular trip, but since I've experienced sticker shock at other salons, I really appreciated it. She kept me informed about each step she was taking and even though my appointment ran over, she went way above and beyond to work me in between her other clients. I went here awhile back- I was treating my mother and me to a haircut for her birthday. We arrived about 10 minutes late due to some traffic issues. When I came in I was given alot of attitude regarding being late. I don't think anyone has ever cut/washed my hair faster. My mother opted to not get a wash (most likely for the best) as I was taken from the dryer chair after 15 mimutes with super wet hair and sent on my way home. I've been coming to this place for 2 years now, always for haircuts only, but I always wear it short and I always have compliments on my hairstyles. I normally have my appointments with Barbara, she is awesome, but I also had some with Ariel, and she is really good to. Two times I had my son come in with me and had his hair cut from a guy that works there and he was amazing, now he likes to go with daddy to another place. Prices are very reasonable, $25 plus tip. In my case this place is a gem because I struggled for 3 years with having horrible haircuts, awful, and having it so short (pixie style) you have no option to disguise a bad haircut. Everyone is really friendly in this place, they stick to the time of the appointment, they are pretty good with tips to help you maintain the style you ask for and on whether is a good or not so good haircut to get for your type of face, hair and routine. Sarah cut my hair and she did a great job. I was walking through midtown about to get some lunch and I knew I needed a haircut- his place had a big sign that said WALK-INS WELCOME so I wandered in. The owner Debbie was super friendly and I only had to wait 15 minutes for a stylist. The place is so neat looking inside- lots of space, well decorated, CLEAN, and so midtown.. They offered soft drinks coffee and water which was great customer service. The hairwash is included in the price. My haircut was $25 which was more than reasonable for the service and quality. They washed my hair with a great smelling tobacco honey shampoo/body wash which smelled great- I got a bottle of that too. She even trimmed my beard and lined if up for me. I absolutely LOVED my experience here today. I'm new to the area and was nervous about finding a new stylist, but I'm fully converted now! To begin, the receptionist was incredibly helpful when I called, directing me to a stylist that would work well with my curly hair. And she was also able to fit me into the schedule the following day due to a cancellation. The décor of the salon itself is funky and colorful and really enjoyable. But the highest praises belong to my new stylist, Bree. Not only is she absolutely gorgeous, but she did a fantastic job with my cut/color/style. She advised me on the best avenues to take when picking out the best red for me and I fully trusted her initiative, leaving in streaks of my old color to add dimension (which I'd never thought of!) She was friendly and knowledgeable and I felt completely comfortable handing over the reins and knowing she would make me look my best. I just moved here from California and was looking for a new salon. I made an appointment but the stylist I got didn't give me the cut I wanted. It was more for girls much younger than me. I called the next day and they had me come in. This time June cut my hair and I just love it. It is perfect and easy to style. Everyone there is so nice. Dabble's is actually a really great salon in midtown Memphis. A little pricey, but no more than any other upscale salon. I see Barbara and she does great things with my hair! The atmosphere is really funky and modern which makes for a cool experience. I got a Brazilian wax there and it wasn't nearly as painful as I had expected. The girl who did it was very gentle and very experienced. My boyfriend even gets his hair cut there, and loves it! I highly recommend this place if you want a cut, style, color, or wax done. This is the only salon I'll get my hair cut at. They know they're way around curly hair and edgy cuts, and the price is reasonable for the good service they give. For me, they were always transparent, no hidden or surprise fees like a few others said. The lady at the front desk is always nice and always soothes my nerves, and the stylists make an effort to talk to you. Most recently, I got a faux hawk (my stylist was Abygail). She talked to me quit a bit and told me she wouldn't let me leave without a bad haircut. Afterwards, she gave me a free sample of pomade and her number in case anything was wrong or I needed help. Terrible. I had to pay another hair stylist at another business to fix the cut the next day. My bangs had a notch cut out of them that will only be fixed by growing more hair and long stray pieces that weren't cut at all. Layers were added to the back despite my request that I not receive layers. The crooked layers were over an inch longer on one side of the back of my head than the other. Stylist used a flat iron to curl my hair for which I paid another $25. I think the worst hair cut I've ever gotten. read more

I have been going to a Ouidad salon in Nashville for years, and moved to Memphis 2 years ago but was still going back to Nashville for hair appointments because everytime I tried someone here-- they screwed up my cut and I paid an arm and leg for them to (don't go to UpCity unless you're prepared to pay over $300-- this isn't NYC people!). I went in- told Bree I need a curly cut and debulking-- and she nailed it! I liked her so much-- I may give a try for my color. I've been struggling to find a decent hairstylist since I've moved out to midtown. I did some research, priced other places, checked reviews, and finally arrived at Dabbles. I read some good reviews about Barbara, so I made an appointment with her to get a haircut. I wanted about 2 inches trimmed and some side bangs cut. I have to say, I am incredibly pleased with her work. I only made a cut appointment, but she let me go ahead and get a lip and brow wax as well. She actually listened to what I was asking for, and made it happen. After she blew it out, she used her wand to give me the cutest waves, which I didn't ask for but loved! All said and done, I got a cut & blow dry, and a brow & lip wax for $50. I've been through quite a few stylists here. I'd say at least four. But despite the frequent turnover, I've never had a bad hair cut here. In fact, Jeni just chopped eight inches off my hair and it might be the best cut I've ever had. One thing I absolutely hate is that you cannot add a tip to your debit or credit card receipt. As someone who rarely carries cash, I have to drive to an ATM before my appointment just so I can tip my stylist. It's not a big deal, but still kind of a pain in the ass. read more

I had the best experience with Stephanie at Dabbles. I called at 9 a.m., asking if they could fit me in and was offered an appointment just a few hours later. I've normally had shoulder-length hair or shorter but had been growing it out over the past couple of years and just wasn't happy. Stephanie took the time to talk to me about what I didn't like about my longer hair and what I was looking for in a hairdo. I showed her a few pictures and she talked me through what we'd do, asking exactly what I wanted. She asked for feedback the whole time and adjusted as we went, and then talked to me about good products for my hair type and styled it in a way I've never done before, giving me tips on how to replicate the style myself. I recently got my hair done here for a wedding that I was in. I wanted a messy, braided updo, not the typical southern prom hair that you see a lot around this area. I chose Dabbles because they have a funkier vibe than some of the salons in Germantown and East Memphis. I had Stephanie and she was awesome!!! Not only did she do a fantastic job, but she was very easy to talk to and really listened to me when I was explaining what I wanted. Throughout the whole appointment she kept having me check her progress and she would make any alterations that I asked for. I was pretty open to different plays on the braided updo so she tried different things as we went along. It was kind if like a collaboration session. Stephanie was extremely nice and easy going and had such great ideas. I gave her some creative license and we ended up with a pin curl, braided updo that was perfectly messy and absolutely beautiful. Exactly what I was looking for and I didn't even know it! I got tons of compliments on my hair. I can't say it enough - Stephanie was great! The staff at the front desk was also very welcoming and my appointment was right on schedule. And the price was awesome!
