It is the BEST haircut I have ever received! In the process, she and her shop filled my heart, mind, and soul with beauty. This is probably the best haircut I've ever gotten for two reasons: 1. She cut it exactly how I wanted. I wanted long layers and she was so careful and quick with the haircut, and I have long hair. She triple checked it after she was done to make sure it was how she wanted it to fall. 2. The cost is unbeatable. Even with a tip it is still the cheapest haircut I've had in over 5 years. She truly knows what she's doing! I couldn't have asked for a better experience, she's very pleasant and easy to talk to. read more

This is a small one chair barbershop. But she gives the best haircuts in Memphis, and charges about half what you'd pay anywhere else. She is personable, funny and friendly, and incredibly generous. I am not one that writes very many reviews but I couldn't wait to write this one. I was in town for meetings and needed a hair cut so I looked on Yelp to find something local and decided to try Vi Vi. That is where I met the owner Mao Lin. She is one of the kindest people I have ever met and so very thoughtful. Meeting her made my trip! She gave me a great haircut, she was funny, and so very kind. I was her last appointment of the day and was standing there looking at Uber/Lyft apps to get a ride back to the hotel. When she realized what I was doing she insisted on taking me back to hotel herself and was very adamant that I was not to pay her anything extra for doing it. She just told me that we have to be nice and kind to people and that I can just pass it on if I feel like I need to pay something. Miss Mao Lin, I assure you that your kindness will be paid forward and multiplied. If I lived in Memphis, I would be a customer for life. Just moved here from LA, and my husband and I were loooong overdue for a haircut but avoided the search for a new stylist after the move. Found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a shot. As someone who changes her hair with the seasons, I've had my share of experiences spending way too much at high-end salons frequented by people of the Los Angeles scene with varying degrees of satisfaction. We are THRILLED to have found Vy Vy and have officially found our Memphis hair stylist! The whole experience was great. Rushed there after work to make it before closing, and even though there were quite a few people in line ahead of us, she took her time to give each person a quality cut and was happy to take us after hours. She stopped a few times throughout to talk through her process and make sure we liked where she was going with her cuts. She got the style of my husband's preferred cut perfect, and she helped tame my thick wild Asian hair that isn't adjusting well to the southern humidity. The value of her work is incredible... quite the steal for skilled work. The waiting area is large and cozy, and it felt like we were visiting someone's home. I really like this hair salon. It is primarily run by only one lady (owner). This is very popular among all the Asians and Indians. It is really a wonderful place to go for various reasons: 1) As there will be only one person to cut your hairs everytime, your hair style remains consistent everytime. You don't have to explain her what kind of cut do you want as she remembers you after your couple of visits. 2) There is always a big waiting line, which justifies her popularity. She is a very kind and friendly person. 3) The price is only $10 for men's haircut and $8 for side-cuts. At other popular places like Fantastic Sams, you eventually end up spending $20 with tip and you always don't necessarily get same the person to cut your hairs. With $10 you can go every 3-4 weeks if you want and get the same job done. 4) There is a good sitting place, a television with netflix movies on it, good hygiene, a private parking lot. Drawbacks: The area seems ghetto, but I have been visiting this place since 3 years for now but I never had a problem. Sometimes I go on my bike and stand my bike unlocked, but fortunately nothing has gone wrong so far. She only takes cash and no credit cards. You should definitely try going here once and get your hair cut done. I have also seen many women coming here for haircut, but I honestly do not know anything about their experiences. read more

Really liked my first visit. The salon is run by a nice Vietnamese lady--very friendly and definitely experienced. I walked in this morning and there were two customs before me already. Not big deal waiting at all. There is a free wifi access and a TV. The waiting area is comfortable (several sofas and benches for kids). The lady was popular since when she was doing my hair, there was a family stopping by. She showed me how to blow my hairs and how to play with my hair too. I had fun learning from her too! Today I went and got a body wave permanent. It was great and I liked the experience. I called the owner the previous day and she gave very helpful information and advice. I'll second what Newton L. said. "Great place for a haircut for a great price." (Though it's gone up slightly to $12.) And it is cash only. But I came by bus so it was good for me that she takes walk ins. I went about 10 am and was second in line. (But I brought a book and will next time too.) There's only one hair cutter so you get the same person every time. And she was very pleasant and helpful. I had more than shoulder length hair and wanted it much shorter. My boyfriend was actually the one who received the service but I accompanied him to Vy's. The service was quick and she was excellent. She made it a personal goal to make you feel as comfortable as possible during your stay. She provided a TV and remote to Netflix as well as free WiFi. Great place to get a haircut for a great price ($10.) The hairstylist works alone but she takes walk-ins. Be prepared to wait if it's busy (possibly up to a half hour) but she does a great job and has a seemingly instinctive knack for cutting hair. read more

Went to Vy Vy for the first time this afternoon and received excellent service for an incredible price! The proprietor was very attentive both to my comfort during my wait, and to the quality of my haircut. She did a great job, and I will certainly be returning next time I need a trim! She spent a fair amount of time after the initial cut was done making sure everything looked perfect, and clearly took pride in her work. Mao Lin at Vy Vy is a talented, knowledgeable and kind proprietor and hair stylist. Based off my experience there, I can highly recommend her to men who are looking for a great hair cut at an affordable price ($10). I went to Vy Vy because I am new to Memphis and so far had difficulty finding a place to get my hair cut that was close to downtown and wouldn't cost me over $20. I can't speak on more complicated styles, but if you're a guy who wants to look neat and fresh, Mao Lin can hook you up and it won't cost you a fortune. read more
