Poor baby, not feeling well hiding in the closet.

My daughter adopted a cat from p.a.w.s expecting the cat was healthy. After bringing the cat home she notice the cat had labored breathing. She took the cat to her vet and with a standard exam revealed a herniated diaphragm. She then contacted p.a.w.s, they became defensive and stated "to have found this issue it would have been necessary to cut the cat open."which is inaccurate according to multiple vets. These vets informed us that this would be obvious in any basic health exam. We are now being told it will cost in upwards of 7 thousand dollars to save this otherwise beautiful member of our family. When we contacted p.a.w.s with this information, they offered no help, no support, and no solutions. In fact they were unprofessional and otherwise rude. I highly recommend you consider another adoption agency for all future adoptions.

The cats are super friendly! I went in not to adopt but just to pet the cats and to keep them company :)

    Bangor Dog Park

    Bangor Dog Park

We were very glad to find this dog park during our visit to Bangor. It has lots of parking and…read moremultiple dog areas. There is also a trail you can take your pup on. Unfortunately for us when we arrived there were only large dogs and the play areas are separated by size. I took our dog out to walk her around a bed and was approached by a small child, maybe 7 years old asking to pet my dog. She asked my dog's name and pet her for a few minutes before heading into the large dog enclosure. There were four or five women in the enclosure and maybe maybe 8 large dogs. I assumed the little girl belonged to one of them. After a few more minutes, I decided to walk my small dog over to the exterior of the large dog area. Sometimes people don't mind mixing and matching sizes as long as you check in with them and we didn't bring our dog to the dog park to sit alone in an enclosure. However, when I got close to the large dog enclosure, I could tell that the women were upset with the child that came in to play with their dogs. They were asking where her parents were and telling her that she shouldn't be inside the enclosure if she doesn't like being jumped on and things of that nature. I allowed my dog to sniff around the outside of the enclosure and tried to greet some of the womento ask if it would be okay if I could bring her in. It was clear they were frustrated with the situation with the little girl and the overall mood was just bad so we decided to walk around outside instead. We did see some teenagers come over to the enclosure later and they apparently were the ones responsible for the small child so they were getting in the earful from the ladies inside as we were leaving. While the park didn't exactly work out for us and we didn't feel very welcome or comfortable, it's very possible that was a unique circumstance. The park itself seems to be a good one, especially if you have a large dog and it's definitely worth a stop to see if your pup can have a better time than ours did.

Agility area is in disrepair. Gates are hard to open or don't even close. Littered with broken dog toys. The poop is the fault of dog owners, clearly. I don't understand going to the effort of bringing your dog somewhere and then being that irresponsible. I won't be going back. The trails right there would be more enjoyable.

Fort Knox and Penobscot Narrows Observatory

Not to be confused with the Fort Knox that holds the gold. This was a cool side trip…read more Located on the west bank of the Penobscot River in Prospect, Maine, in an area known as the Penobscot Narrows. Fort Knox is one of the best-preserved military fortifications on the New England seacoast. The fort has many unique architectural features and a rich history behind its walls. It is America's first fort named after Major General Henry Knox. During the country's infancy, Maine was repeatedly involved in northeast border disputes with British Canada. In fact, the area between Castine and the rich lumber city of Bangor was invaded and occupied by the British during the American Revolution and the War of 1812. Fort Knox was established in 1844 to protect the Penobscot River Valley against a possible future British naval incursion. It was designed by Chief Engineer Joseph Totten, with a number of other engineers serving as superintendents of construction from 1844 - 1869, among them Isaac Ingalls Stevens and Thomas L. Casey. The fort was named for Major General Henry Knox, America's first Secretary of War, who was born in Boston but retired to Thomaston, Maine, in 1796. The fort garrisoned its first troops from 1863 to 1866. These troops were mostly volunteers undergoing training before being sent to their active posts and included members of the celebrated 20th Maine. Troops were briefly stationed at the fort during the Spanish-American war in 1898 but never saw military action. If you're in the area and enjoy history, especially military history it's worth your time to tour.

Saw a beautiful bridge and signs for "Fort Knox" observatory and headed toward that direction. Admission to the Fort alone is about $6.50 for out-of-state visitors and combined with the bridge observatory (recommended) is about $9.50. After paying the fees at the gate, you can either head to explore the fort or down toward the bridge's observatory deck. There is a separate parking area for the bridge observatory. Once there, you head down along the path to the bridge's tower entrance. You then take an elevator up to the top. From there, there are two short flights of stairs to get to the top/observatory section. The views there are spectacular...more than worth the nominal price of admission. The elevator operators/greeters were both super nice and very informative. The fort itself is also great with lots of area to explore on multiple levels. The top and bottom levels offer some great view of the Penobscot River. The gift shop there is also nice...lots of souvenir and snack options. All staff we encountered were very nice and helpful.
