Anyway, we are in the process of expanding our living space and will need a few additional sticks of furniture, so we drove to Bangor to check it out as part of our periodic trip to "the big city." Their items are in one large warehouse-looking space. They had a good variety of items: furniture, housewares, tools and building supplies, and so on. They had a lot of new tools and painting supplies. Not sure why - items they didn't use for one of their house builds, maybe? The tables and bureaus we checked out looked a bit knocked about for the prices they were asking, but we are used to thrift store or similar sources, and prices are higher everywhere these days in our current economy. We will probably check back at some point if we don't fill our needs elsewhere. We bought a few smaller items, however, with prices that were more in line with what we expected. The "unfair" reasons I mentioned for almost rating it lower was twofold. We lived in Florida for several years by mistake (because of the hot summers and the local politics), but there was a ReStore we really like there and went to often. There was a showroom area made up of several rooms containing separate types of items. There was also a partially covered outside area where there was more furniture and building materials. With no snow or frigid temperatures they can get away with that. The second reason I was less impressed had to do with the entire strip mall. There is no restroom in any of the ten or so businesses in this strip mall. So if it takes you an hour or more to get there like it does for us, you may need to stop somewhere else first if you need a pit stop. But it is all for a good cause and certainly worth a return trip if we need to.

They also gave me a 15% off coupon to the Loyal Biscuit. My only complaint is: how they have things scheduled is hard for me because of my work Schedule. Friday's and Saturday's are the best days for me to be able to drive down and do everything I need to there, unfortunately, they don't do anything on those days and I have to try and take time off work to do those things. But over all, I had a great experience and we absolutely love our new family member.

I would not recommend them, I don't know if they are too busy or just don't value the small jobs.

Their store is well stocked, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Their dog wash is first come, first served, no reservations, so make sure to give them a call so you won't have to wait. It's a convenient location next to Hannafords, so the wife kept busy while I did the dirty deed. There's even a Dunkin Donuts across the street if someone else needs to keep occupied. I chose these groomers after another local grooming facility left a 2 inch gash in my 3 pound poodle and did not even notify me of it. I saw it after bringing her home. I called and was given excuses but not not any type of apology. My dogs never returned to that facility. My only concern is that the time they are going to be there is not consistent, ranging from 4 hrs to 6 or 7. However I do understand that there are many reasons it would be difficult to keep a consistent schedule. This concern however does not deter me from taking them there. We have 2 mini goldendoodles and because there are not many groomers in Bar Harbor Maine we had to wait quite a while to get an appointment. The front desk staff was very friendly and efficient. I was checked in quickly and they said they would give me a call when they were finished. I dropped them off around 8:30am and was able to pick them up around 1:30pm. They listened to what I was looking for and did a great job with their hair. They could have went a little bit shorter on the head but overall they looked great! Would absolutely come back when we visit the area again!

I am very happy with this business and the holiday took care of my dog. Turning off the main road onto a quasi-maintained graveled road, you've got about a mile's drive of this to get to the Maine Forest and Logging Museum. (Personally, we're "off-roaders," so the drive was not challenging at all. However, perhaps those with a delicate nature might find it hostile.) ;) Anyway, much like the B-52 crash site museum in Greenville, this "museum" is outdoors and requires a lot of walking, as it's spread over considerable acreage -- some of it a bit rough-'n'-tumble. It's a really awesome spread! Kinda like a life-sized "Little House on the Prairie" diorama of life back when. Buildings, sheds, homes, staged like little "sets" depicting the typical life of a rural community of those times. (When we visited, everything was closed down. There was no signage stating that; however, it didn't take a rocket scientist to see the place was closed for the season. That said, being the only two there was pretty awesome. The tranquility was immense. Just hiking around the entire property leisurely with no interruptions, and from what you could see through various buildings' windows (to catch interiors and such), were totally worth the visit! The solitude was particularly invigorating! The entire experience was so worth the drive to Bradley! I can't recommend the Maine Forest and Logging Museum enough!!

Since 2016, Alan Toothaker was the veterinarian for our sweet, beautiful golden retriever Sophie…read moreduring the months each year that we have spent in Maine. In November 2024, he examined Sophie and drew labs. He told us, "she's fine," "just adjusting to her medications." Without much change in her symptoms until the last hours, she died 2 weeks later as we were finally taking her to an emergency room. On 2/26/26 the Maine Board of Veterinary Medicine disciplined Dr. Toothaker for poor record-keeping and violating practice standards in his care of Sophie, and separately regarding another complaint that alleged he mistreated animals and staff. You can read the details of these two cases -- AND THE 4 PREVIOUS ACTIONS -- on the State of Maine web page for his license [https://bit.ly/ToothakerMaineLicensePage]. This includes for my case the specific consent agreement that Dr. Toothaker chose to sign to avoid going to court (administrative hearing). You will also see there that he was still on probation for previous infractions when he treated Sophie. Beyond these state actions, Dr. Toothaker also paid $145,360 to resolve complaints by the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) about his mishandling of controlled substances in 2023 [https://bit.ly/DEA_ToothakerFine]. As a (human) doctor, after Sophie died, I requested from Dr. Toothaker's clinic, her complete medical record, and I was appalled. We had brought Sophie in because she had not been eating well, but the medical note said she was "eating and drinking well," the kind of text one has in a default note template that's supposed to be changed in the real note, but he didn't. The lab results had numerous red flags that Dr. Toothaker ignored. When I presented to another veterinarian (without giving away the subsequent events) the data that Dr. Toothaker had before him at Sophie's last visit, and asked whether going with "she's fine" seemed right, that vet said "I would not choose to ride for a few weeks on 'she's fine.' I think you would be better served to go see an internal medicine specialist." We would certainly have taken her to a specialist -- driven that night to Portland if needed -- in line with the extensive medical care we have gotten for her over her life. Unfortunately, Dr. Toothaker did not suggest taking her to a specialist, so we didn't do it, and now Sophie is dead, 3 days after her 9th birthday. She had a complicated medical history which Dr. Toothaker knew about but ignored. Equally worrisome in a different way, namely, his trustworthiness, after he received my complaint from the Board, he reported that he -- oops! -- had failed to include in the "complete medical record" that he had sent me, more complete medical ("SOAP") notes maintained "in a separate module" of his electronic medical record. This conveniently discovered note contains at least one statement that I know to be false, and many others that are highly implausible. My impression, though unproven, is that he fabricated these notes in response to my complaint. Dr. Toothaker still claims that he did not do anything wrong medically, but the veterinary board thinks he did, and so do I. I noted in my complaint that Dr. Toothaker is friendly and affable, but that does not make up for his being cavalier and irresponsible about the actual medical care of animals. Before letting Dr. Toothaker care for your pet, I highly recommend you read his disciplinary actions and look at the medical notes that he has previously written for your pet. Sophie died quietly on the floor of our vehicle. I didn't get to say goodbye to her.
