When researching options to get vital medical care for our neighborhood stray, my first impression of the ultra organized process for getting animals neutered at Paws would be mechanical or impersonal. My experience was so far from this first impression. My husband and I found a stay kitty in our neighborhood right before the temperature was about to drop. We started calling him Mortimer (Morty for shorty). We didn't have the heart to put him out, but he had a pretty nasty respiratory infection, and we didn't know what else might be wrong, so we set him up in our breezeway and made some appointments. (Much longer story, cut to getting him neutered at Paws....) As soon as Morty's cold cleared up, I went through the phone request process with Paws as they are the most affordable and one of our other kitties was treated there before adoption. The call was easy, wait for 9am on Monday, make the call, wait for your turn, leave a message, and hope you were fast enough to get a call back to schedule for the next week. All of the standard stuff went the standard way, but we added on Combo Testing and Morty tested positive for both FIV and FeLV. I got a call on the day of his surgery to give me a heads up before I came to pick him up and my heart sank. I was grateful that we kept him quarantined from our other three cats, but we had him for a few weeks at this point and had grown very fond of his sweet and playful personality. I was visibly upset when I got there for pickup and the staff at Paws were so compassionate and helped me through the process of getting him the necessary confirmation tests to get him placement with a sanctuary for cats with FeLV. The wait for the sanctuary was difficult as every day Morty is with us he has grown on our hearts, but we got a call last week that he has a spot and we're driving him there tomorrow, just in time for Christmas! Thank you Paws, for having a huge heart for these animals and for the humans that do their best to keep them safe, warm, fed, and happy. For those concerned, Morty has a regressive (dormant) from of the virus and could not have passed it to our cats, but there was no guarantee that it wouldn't become active one day. He was never in the same room, let alone sharing food bowls, litter boxes, or grooming. read more

Extremely Disappointed and Heartbroken - Beware Before Taking Your Pet Here On March 31st, I took my 2-year-old dog to Paws Clinic in Taylor, Michigan for a routine neutering. I followed every single post-op instruction to the letter. I stayed home from work to monitor him 24/7, kept him in his cone at all times, administered sedatives, and only took him out on a short, supervised leash. Despite all of this, within just 6 days, his incision split open and began bleeding. There were no visible sutures, and his regular vet confirmed the incision had almost completely reopened. He had to be re-sedated and restitched at a significant cost. When I called the clinic to explain what had happened, they completely dismissed my concern, blaming it on "licking" even though the records also note "trauma" as a possible cause. They refused to take any accountability or offer any help with the vet bill--even after I explained how careful I had been, and that my dog was never out of his cone. The day after being restitched by his regular vet, my dog was walking normally again--with no pain or discomfort, unlike the full week after the original neutering. That alone raises red flags. I feel the clinic either botched the procedure or used low-quality sutures that didn't hold. Either way, this should have never happened. They showed zero compassion and made no effort to make things right. This isn't just about money--it's about accountability and the of our pets. I would never recommend this place to anyone who truly loves their animal. They put my dog through unnecessary pain and stress and then turned their back when something clearly went wrong. read more

They are great. I've had several cats neutered here and it's a great service to those who can't afford neutering via their regular vet. Just took two ferals I adopted a few months back and I was pleased with the outcome. They even did a brief exam and told me my cats have gingivitis, which I really appreciated. I took one of my dogs here to get neutered. This is a non profit so the cost is really reasonable $95. They use licensed vets so don't think the reduction in cost means less quality care. Things I liked: They call, email, and text you reminders for your appointment. They explain everything to you The surgery went perfectly Cost of surgery Pick up process was better than drop off, we were given numbers for our turns Things I didn't like: Drop off process, everyone shows up at same time and they didnt give clear directions on where to stand or what to do. The extra costs, the surgery itself was reasonable, but they charge you a fee for using a credit card, they charge you for pain medication to take home. Overall a really good affordable option if you need to get your dog or cat fixed. read more

I took my newly adopted dog here to get neutered and I'm very happy with the care the staff provided and the efficiency of the clinic! The check in was a little longer than I'd hoped for, but they give you a fair warning that it may take up to an hour so I was prepared to wait. Check out was much easier and less time consuming. The price was cheap and they offer lots of add ons for post op care such as more pain meds for your dog which is fantastic. I called every shelter, clinic and vet in the area and Paws was the first to get me in (the other wait times were end of March all the way until July). Very happy with the service here! On December 7 we took our 2 year old rottweiler in to be neutered here. The staff, check in procedure and the surgical procedure all appeared to have gone very well. But as days passed myself and our family all noticed a horrible stinch coming from our dog and we were trying to determine where this foul odor was coming from. We knew that we had never smelled it before and that it was not normal. We were instructed that he needed to keep the cone in place for 7-10 days to allow proper healing of operated area without any tampering by our dog. On day 8 I contacted the clinic and asked them how long the cone needed to be worn and the smell that we thought was coming from the cone. I was instructed to make sure the area was completely healed or he could possibly cause damage. After inspecting the area of surgery and checking him out I as Mom made the executive decision to remove the cone. Thank God I did! Unbeknownst to us the cone was fitted so incredibly tight to his neck digging into his skin leaving our sweet boy with pus oozing from several areas around his neck obviously infected at this point. I immediately contacted the clinic they told me that this had never happened before and asked if I would like to bring him in for an exam. Well on today December 20 we took him in for a follow up visit for this issue. When I initially brought him in he was fine absolutely no health problems or wounds. I explained that this problem was definitely due to the cone they fitted improperly on him When the Dr. came outside to discuss with me there was absolutely no ownership taken on behalf of the negligence of the clinic. Instead she tried to gaslight me into thinking the issue was caused by us and the type of training collar he wears and stated that the problem which they caused was due to either our collar choice or moisture in the cone. This explains his consistently panting and vomitting his food up approximately 4 times over the 7 day healing period. Unable to properly eat and rest due to the pain of the cone cutting into his airway and skin. I highly recommend this place, very friendly and affordable, I had just recently adopted my cat from Romulas animal shelter the week before I took her in for her first series of shots, I didn't have to wait long for appointment they called me back with in two days, and they called back to check up on my cat a few days later. As the other review stated, the costs are low but ala carte. Even with the "add-ons" it was less expensive then our vet, cost a few gallons of gas and a few hours outside of work. Great low cost for services but the extra fees take you quickly from $45 to over $100. The front staff are very friendly during drop off when you pay up front but at pick up time they are rude at best. Admittedly I was 7 minutes late for pickup and their group instructions. I have been through the process before and was early for pickup so I had no idea what I needed to do being late. I stepped up to the counter and had to interrupt because they had already begun the check in for their 8:00am new drop offs. Note: It was 7:37am. I was told to take a seat and wait. I did and watched 5 more drop offs enter the line after I took my seat. When the next drop off entered I went back to the counter to ask for clearer instructions and to see if they expected me to wait until after every single drop off that came in up to 8:00am finished. They then gave me my papers and discharge instructions. This criticism is specifically referring to the ladies taking the money and giving discharge paperwork NOT the techs bringing your animal out to you! In trying to express my dissatisfaction of unclear instructions the one girl who was least helpful walked past and quipped at me. I told her I didn't appreciate her comments and that I wasn't talking to her and that she was proving my point by rudely interjecting into a conversation and that In doing so she escalated the problem. The staff member I was addressing laughed and said "that's the second time I've heard that this week". Again displaying exactly the unprofessional behavior I was referring too and proving it's a regular occurrence. You really need some customer service training. read more

Dear staff members - my name is Maxine and you condemned me to DEATH today. My owner had the heart to take me in off the street last September. She saved her money for months to bring me to you for shots, pain meds and surgery. But, you turned me away, saying that I was too old, too fat and my teeth are bad. My owner walks me 4 times a day, feeds me a balanced diet and loves me even though I don't play like a puppy. We live in an apartment complex where all animals must be up to date on their shots and be spayed or neutered. The landlord was kind enough to give my owner time to save the money to do that, but now I will have to be surrendered to the pound. It would cost my owner $350 to have me spayed at the Humane Society and she doesn't have the time or the money for that. And you KNOW that no one will adopt me, so I will be off to the Rainbow Bridge - thanks for nothing! I should have known though - to look at me, you know I have never caught a break in my life.
