I ended up shopping at Walmart for a bit and the went back. It was all set! The phone works great. The only negative thing I can say is that there credit card machine was down so he asked if I had any cash. Fortunately I did, but then he didn't offer a receipt . It was a huge hassle with Xfinity to add me to the Xfinity account plus then they want you to send the phone to Assurant for repair or replacement.. that takes a couple few days.. thought well for $150 this guy says he can replace the screen in 20 minutes. Great worth the convenience. Well no this is start of possible nightmare. Non apple parts not recognized and makes trade in a big problem. Face ID now doesn't work, which for me is a huge problem as all my apps are set up with that only. Can't reset my Apple ID on it etc..and only solution is to drive 1-1/2 hours to maybe get it done same day.. or mail it and hope it doesn't take many days.. and you still will end up with non OEM phone parts and this gets logged in the service history. The guy there is nice enough even said they send your old screen parts to make new aftermarket parts in NJ. Perhaps the harvest to make more valuable parts is the point of this place. Maybe not as will see what happens tomorrow as he's going to call owner and find out what he can do to help fix this terrible situation. He will See if going to try and charge me more to fix Face ID with non OEM parts in far off location. My life is all messed up bc of this decision. Will update once resolved

After doing a little research, I decided to call a few other computer shops. Russ at First in Service was incredibly friendly, thorough, and helpful in explaining his recovery process while also explaining that there was no guarantee that he could recover the data. I decided it would be worth the 25 mile drive to have Russ look at it. He called a few hours later, shortly before closing on a Friday just to say, "I wanted you to be able to enjoy your weekend knowing that it looks like I can successfully recover everything." A few days later, he had copied all my data onto a new hard drive that is working perfectly. If I run into any computer problems in the future, Russ will be the first person I call!

Service is well priced and billing for services rendered always aligned with what was quoted for that service and any necessary replacement. Can be tough to get that in this space, and similar, like a good car mechanic.
