My son's desktop computer stopped turning on, and I brought it to PCW Computer on New Britain Ave. in West Hartford, CT. They said it was not working anymore and I asked them if they had a replacement computer for sale. He sold me one on August 25th, 2024 and said it was equivalent to the one that stopped working. As time passed, I noticed the computer was not able to play games that I was playing on my previous one. I brought it back and asked them why it was not working right, and they explained to me that I needed a graphics card to play the games I was describing. So there is the first issue, he told me he sold me an equivalent computer to my previous one, but it was not. After some discussion, I decided to purchase a graphics card, which was more than the original computer. On December 5th, 2024, I purchased a NVIDIA card for $446.67 with installation. I brought it home and it was working, but after a couple days, the computer stopped turning on, and I noticed that none of the lights were working on the inside of the computer. I unscrewed the wall and made sure all the connections were tight. All of a sudden, the computer turned on again. Time went on and I would have to continue to unscrew the wall and tighten connections in order to turn the computer on. Until it stopped turning on, which was January 19th, which was only approximately 40 days since installation. I was not able to take it back to PCW until January 29th for them to look at it. I received a phone call on January 31st, and the owner said it was the motherboard and it needed to be replaced. I told him you sold this to me in August, and it has only been 5 months. He said some parts do not last long. I was furious and raised my voice in disbelief. I told him I wanted a refund for the entire computer, because it has been nothing but trouble since I purchased it. He said he would not do that. I told him it worked when I brought it in for the graphics card installation, and that they must have damaged the motherboard when they were installing the graphics card. Overall, my experience with this small business has been infuriating. Never have I felt like my money was well spent. The owner's empathy to the issue of being sold a lame computer was non-existent. In summary, he sold me a computer that was not equivalent to my old one, recommended a graphics card that was worth more than the computer itself, and broke my motherboard while installing the graphics card and suggested I buy another motherboard. My recommendation to anyone who contemplates walking into this business would be to walk by and pretend it does not exist. You will save yourself from a stressful situation that walking through their door will inevitably lead to. read more

I only came here once. Bought an iMac in 2013 that crapped out randomly in 2018, lost buncha work. Brought it to PCW just to see if anything could be done. It cost several hundred dollars and was honestly a little iffy going thru the process with them HOWEVER, it is now late 2021 and I still use that iMac every day. I put it thru the ringer on processing video and music editing. And it still holds up without even lag. Essentially I paid probably $300ish dollars to bring my iMac back to life for at a minimum 4-5 additional years and for that I'd recommend fully. read more

Brought my PS3 in,due to it over heating, I wanted it fixed...so I can get my pictures and video I had saved on the hard drive,a week goes by,and the PS3 couldn't be repaired. And they erased the hard drive without a phone call to inform me,that by resetting the PS3,that it would wipe my hard drive... this is the second time, I had an issue with them. Having recently lived in R.I., I was used to taking my computer to a great shop for ultra fast service and fair pricing. Providence was very competative with a computer repair place on every corner just like McDonalds. I wasn't in the mood to drive my PC to RI (although I should have). My computer had been hit with an encryption virus, which basically froze everything and wiped out existing programs Took it to PCW (Elmwood) on a quickie recommendation. I explained the problem my PC was experiencing and how everything was now encrypted. He exclaimed that he has eradicated every known virus and not to worry about this one either. There wasn't a virus made that he had not dealt with. The computer held my hundreds of documents, thousands of pics and 30 some odd programs. He told me it would be ready by Saturday (I brought it in on a Thursday) and he will call me. Some time around Monday I called them and they were like "Oh yeah, come get it." I paid them 84.00 plus for the wonderful service performed on my PC. When I got it home, not a single document, file or picture would open. They were still encrypted. Not a single program on the computer worked anymore. I was livid. Plus they added software I didn't want. I brought it back to PCW and they said they would look at it again. Days went by and I once again had to call them. They said it was ready. Drove back down there yet again and this time they sang a different tune. "Ah, you see sir, this virus holds everything for ransom and you have to pay the bad guys 300-500.00 and maybe then, (just maybe) they will release your data. I said "You guys knew this from the beginning and you said nothing". The employees at PCW were just shuffling around, avoiding eye contact, occasionally croaking a garbled response. The Walking Dead. AWFUL! Now I am stuck with a useless computer that will not allow me to reinstall programs or open a single damn picture. PCW does not check their work obviously. Since this horrible experience, I drove it up to Providence and had it back the same day. I actually waited for it. They went through everything with me, reinstalled all programs, took off the junk PCW put on and sent me on my very merry way. They also removed remnants of the virus that would've reinfected my computer (hello again PCW). read more

I shattered the screen on my iPhone, and after visits to the Apple and AT&T stores left me in tears (so rude), I decided to check this place out. I walked in at 6pm, and they fixed my screen perfectly in 20 minutes (even though they typically ask for an hour and closed at 6:30, they squeezed me in) for a fraction of the cost I would have had to pay for basically a new phone. I dropped my iPhone 6 and the screen was shattered. Since I work only seconds from PCW, I decided to go there rather than the apple store in the interest of supporting a local business and for the convenience. I also assumed the price would be a tad cheaper since it wasn't officially "apple". I dropped the phone, they said "no problem" and it would be an hour. I returned an hour later and picked up the phone. I was charged a whopping $130.00. It was what I expected to pay, not cheaper, I was slightly disappointed, but happy to have my fixed phone. When I got home, I received a call, and the person calling me couldn't hear my voice. For the next few days, I had to make all calls on speakerphone or headphones. I returned to the store and explained what happened. They said they'd take care of it. I returned for the phone and they said it was fixed. I got home and made a call, but now the sensor that makes the screen black, so you don't press a thousand buttons with your face was broken. I returned a few days later and told them what happened. They said it was probably because I dropped the phone. (THEY BLAMED ME) I left the phone again for the morning and they said it would be fixed by the afternoon. I returned to the store for the 4th time and they said they couldn't fix it. I was frustrated. I said, "When I brought the phone to you, it had a cracked screen, nothing else was wrong. You broke my phone, and now you're telling me you can't fix it." "We didn't break your phone. Sometimes this happens when you crack your screen." They were cold and un apologetic. Staff averted eye contact and responsibility. They told me I should put the broken screen back on my phone and take it to apple to fix it. I explained that was I upset, tired, and disappointed. They handed me back the phone and I told them I would return the next day to do the exchange for the broken screen. As I was leaving, I looked down and the new screen was cracked! They broke the new screen, while it was in their care. Finally, I returned and got a full refund and went to apple. APPLE FIXED MY PHONE FOR $30 LESS IN A HALF HOUR NO INTERNAL PROBLEMS AT ALL! CONCLUSION: PCW has the worst customer service I've ever encountered. They are bad at their jobs, THEY BROKE MY PHONE. They overcharge (PCW:$130 APPLE:$109). They don't take responsibility for their actions, and they are a nightmare. Do yourself a favor and don't bother with taking your electronics here. You will lose money, time, and energy. read more

My wife broke the screen for her iPhone 6. Took it in first thing in the morning and they had it fixed by noon the same day. Service was fast and friendly and seemed to be a reasonable price ($130). Repair looked good and everything is working fine. read more

For those of you who don't feel like reading the whole thing: TL;DR - They're overpriced, don't call you back or pick up the phone, they do things with your computer without your permission, they broke my computer in a different (albeit easily fixable) way, and they almost lost my computer. I'm never using them again. For those of you who want a more in-depth look as to why I gave them the rating I did: As for customer service, I could give them a 3. They were absolutely polite... when they actually got back to me. The issue is that they don't have an answering machine, so you can't leave a message, and they tend to ignore phone calls. Plus, they don't actually ever call you about your computer until a few days after it's finished. However, when they actually talked to me they were extremely polite and nice, hence my 3 star rating. As for fixing my problem, I'd definitely give them a 2 or 3 star rating. I came in and told them what I thought was wrong. They had an issue diagnosing it (it ended up being that all the switches on my motherboard had to be reset), so they sent my computer to the Orange store (which is apparently their main store). But they fixed it beautifully. Mostly. Apparently they didn't put everything back well enough and now I have to force the charger in and use as much pressure as I can muster to actually get it to register. I'm calling them about it tomorrow (they're closed Sundays). As for prices, they charged me $73 to reset the switches on my motherboard and didn't even put it back together right (see the end of the previous paragraph). I feel that's a little overpriced, but whatever. That's about a 3 star rating because it's not RIDICULOUSLY overpriced, and most their other prices are extremely reasonable. As for everything else, I would give them a 1 or less star. When they couldn't figure out what was wrong with my computer, they sent it to the Orange store WITHOUT CALLING ME AND ASKING FIRST. They did not get my permission to send it out to another store to fix it there. They didn't even tell me that they were going to do that. That is not okay. When I gave them my computer they said it would take about three days because they were "really backed up at the moment." and they'd call me when they have a diagnosis. I said to take their time, I wasn't in a rush. I needed the computer for school, but it didn't start for two weeks. A week later, still no phone call. So I call them and, after the third time trying, they finally pick up. Long story short, it ended with them promising they'd call me back as soon as they contacted the person they were trying to call (this happened five times, twice it was the orange store, and twice it was the driver which you'll hear about in the next paragraph) several times, then me calling THEM back after an hour of waiting because I heard nothing back. Ridiculous. They also, apparently, do not have any computer systems linking their different store locations. When they have to send computers to and from each store they just give them to a driver and have him/her take the computer(s) with a little sheet indicating what work was done, if it's fixed or not, and how much it costs to whatever store they indicate. They don't call the store and say "we're sending these x# of computers back," they don't E-mail the store this information, and they don't even have a system that's updated about what's going on with the computers. They don't even have an INVENTORY of them, as in they don't have a check in/out list. They honestly thought they'd lost my computer because it wasn't at the West Hartford store, the Orange store, or with any of the drivers. Good news is they found it, but still. That's the end of my review. I'm never going there ever again for any of my computer needs. read more

Absolutely AWFUL! Brought my iPad for a screen fix, was told it was done but wouldn't boot up, came in to pick it up & my iPad was in pieces! No screen! Told me the battery was swollen so they couldn't close it. Looks like they used my iPad for parts! Don't recommend this Location at all. I would've given no star. Hope they get shut down! read more

Not somewhere I typically visit since my husband can fix most computer issues but our Xbox 360 ended up with a fated red ring of death so this was our last chance before buying a new unit. PCW advertises that they repair this for about $80-90 so we tried it out. It took a week or so for the repair to happen since they don't do this in house but when we got it back, it worked like a champ. When I picked up the unit, the tech said that the repair doesn't always work on the first shot so we may have to return the unit to have it redone. Well, the system ran great for about a month and a half and, sure enough, the red ring came back. We returned it to the store and found out that they are no longer offering the service due to an extremely high failure rate. They gave us a partial refund minus the diagnostic fee. I appreciate the honesty of PCW here and that they offered the refund without any hesitation. I will definitely be back if I have any tricky repairs like iPhones, tablets, gaming systems, etc. read more

Awful. The desk people at PCW know absolutely nothing about service. They kept my PS3 for over a month and didn't fix it. My entire family had to ride them, calling several times, for updates about the status of the repair. They never returned any of our calls. We finally went to the store and demanded that they give us the PS3 back. Stay away. read more

My experience with PCW in West Harford was not pleasant at all. They had replaced a screen on an IPAD mini for $200. 24 hours later the home button was not working properly. So I brought the PAD back in for repair. After a couple days I received a call saying that the charging input needed to be replaced and that it would take a week. Four days later I picked up the device...two days later the home button was jarred again. When I took it back down for them to fix it...I was told that the IPAD was bent and that they would not fix it. My response..."if the IPAD was bent you guys (PCW Technical staff) did it when you replaced the charging section of the IPAD. I was then told that this repair never happened. Okay...now we're back to why I had to bring it back to you in the first place. You never repaired the home button right the first time. Needless to say nothing was done to fix my home button.....it was all my fault!.... according to them! BTW - How could I bend the back of the IPAD outward if I form the outside...one would need to be inside the device to bend the back panel outward...."Food for thought"!! read more

They are buying products on eBay for their customer's replacement or repair and then claiming the products don't work and then shipping wrong product back, and then using stolen merchandise for their customers laptop repair and claiming that they have returned product that they have purchased on eBay even though it is completely wrong product which they return. Stay far away from fraudulent company, because they will steal from you too. read more

I initially brought my computer here for a cracked screen. They broke my computer even further and my computer now had a fuzzy screen. They had me come back three times to a broken computer. I thought they finally fixed it. A month later I pick up my computer and the screen cracks and back comes the fuzzy screen. I came here hoping that they would fix my ps4 but all they did was have it for one whole month and then they said they couldn't fix it not to mention they did call me and tell me it can be fixed in about 4 more days. Although they didn't charge me they did tell me that it would be 3-5 days to only give it back to me 3-5 WEEKS later. Once again DO NOT COME TO THIS PLACE, you will regret it. A complete waste of $30. I went there because my MacBook had a failing wifi card (most of the time when I'd turn my computer on it would say no wifi hardware installed, or it'd work for a bit and then turn the wifi and Bluetooth off and wouldn't turn back on) I explained to the technician what I had done to fix it including resetting the NVRAM and SMC,and what led me to believe it was a hardware problem. The person at the front desk agreed that was the case. My computer is also dented where the wifi card is located. After their diagnostic which they said was simply them watching a 10 hour YouTube video on my laptop they told me there was no problem with it because my computer connected to the wifi when they used it. They concluded the issue was the wifi I was attempting to connect to despite me sharing with them that my computer usually says that I have no wifi card installed. This computer repair place has purchased laptop motherboard from me on ebay which was in working condition and then when they received the motherboard, they opened return case in ebay to return the motherboard for refund which I accepted and I wrote to them to make sure to ship back the motherboard which was in the ebay listing back to me because my technicians will check serial numbers to make sure that customer returned the correct board. I didn't get any reply from PCW Computer at all. Two weeks later, I received motherboard for refund, but when I checked serial numbers, PCW Computer returned completely wrong board to me with completely different serial numbers. I contacted ebay management and explained to them that the buyer returned wrong motherboard to me and I opened claim on ebay in which I specifically described what happened and even posted motherboard images of my motherboard from the ebay listing and the motherboard that customer returned for refund. Ebay refunded PCW Computer only on a claim that they have shown tracking number that motherboard was returned and after my numerous calls and explanations, ebay said that I have to contact the buyer directly and resolve this issue, because they can't help me. I contacted PCW Computer numerous times explaining the situation that they have returned wrong motherboard to me and I want to resolve this issue in normal manner. The person I spoke with on the phone first time was very rude and didn't believe me even though I e-mailed photos to him which had motherboard that they purchased from me and the motherboard which they have returned to me and they were entirely different. During one of the calls, he said that their customer may have this motherboard, but he can't bring it back to them, on other occasions he was saying that his tech was claiming it is the correct motherboard, which was a total lie. Then after promising on the phone that they will somehow reimburse me, they just started to ignore my calls and messages. This company has fraudulent business practices and they will steal your parts and then give you wrong parts, so make sure to check if they replace something and return the product which belongs to you without stealing it. I lost over $200.00 for my motherboard. Make sure to check all serial numbers on your products when you take it to them for repair or replacement, so that they will not give something back to you which is not yours. This is not the way to run the business by stealing someone's products and returning back products which don't belong to them and then claiming that they returned correct product. read more
