My son got referred to PDI for some extractions and I was super nervous being this would be his first time under general anesthesia. The process was very smooth and easy once I had everything ready that they required for him to be seen. We were scheduled very fast and the front staff ladies were so sweet and helpful and very informative of everything that would need to be done. Meeting the Doctor (Dr. Hagele) on the day of the appointment who was very informative of the process and the anesthesiologist that would be working on my child and being able to ask questions made my nerves feel calmer and at ease. My son did such a great job after the treatment was done. Recovery nurses were so nice and helpful to us. We couldn't have asked for a better place to have his dental work done. read more

Kind, expert-care for my special needs 20 year old son. We need regular (every 2 years) sedated cleanings for my adult son with limited language and a big aversion to medical/dental procedures. PDI's team has twice now, been exceptionally supportive, thorough, and understanding of our whole family's needs. Highly recommend them. Once you are able to get ahold of someone to schedule an appointment, everything else is as good as I could ever ask for in these circumstances. The check-in is fairly quick and straightforward. Receptionist was kind, quick and efficient. The lobby is clean and has some activities for the kiddos. They also have free WiFi for guests. The initial part of the process where the children get their vitals taken was for the most part fairly simple. The nurses here do a phenomenal job with making your child feel as comfortable as possible. They offer stuffed animals, toys, and even a tablet to distract them from what's going on. They are so understanding and kind with the kids. I really can't say enough good things about the way the nurses go about handling the children. My partner was with my son while they sedated him, which is a scary situation for parents but the doctors know what they're doing and the process was quick. I did think they performed an excess amount of stuff but I'm assuming it was preventative measures to keep my kiddos baby teeth as healthy as possible. The dentist could have been a little kinder to the parents. We are already in a hard spot but, I get it. My child waking up from the anesthesia was the hardest part for me but the nurse was so sweet and supportive. It's not the happiest place to bring your child but the staff here tries to make it as smooth as possible for the babies. In the end, I would recommend this place for smaller children who need dental work done but hope we all avoid it by practicing proper hygiene with our little ones. Safe to say big brother ruined it for little brother when it comes to sweets!! read more

I had an appointment for my 2 year old to get crowns on her front teeth. I had an incredible amount of anxiety, but the staff was so kind and answered any question I had. We were able to meet with the anesthesiologist as well as the dentist before signing any of the consent forms. They called us back to show us her treatment plan while she was under general anesthesia and getting a cleaning and X-rays. They let us know she was doing well, and allowed us back into recovery before she awoke and explained everything to us. It was a smooth experience and should my child have any more issues I would definitely come back to PDI. read more

Our 2 year old needed a tooth abstraction due to an infection and abscess on her gum. We were very weary to put her under bc she is so young. But, we did, and everything went well! PARENTS BE WARNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY WANT YOU TO CONSENT A TREATMENT PLAN BEFORE KNOWING EXACTLY WHAT THE TREATMENT PLAN WILL BE. We got kicked out of our 3 year old son's appointment this morning, 7/11/24, that they have rescheduled 3 times since we first were reffered in October 2023, because they were trying to force us to give consent to pulling out all 4 front top teeth BEFORE she even LOOKED in our son's mouth and knew for sure they needed to be pulled. She said we had to blindly consent to everything before knowing, or else we have to leave. They would not look in his mouth first. The reffering dentist only referred us because she could not get a good look in his mouth due to extreme anxiety, something this place boasts about being equipped to deal with. It even states so on the website. Apparently, that is SEVERE false advertising. There was staining on the front teeth that the reffering dentist wanted to get a better looked at. She said this place would be able to do that while under anesthesia. The dentist here at PDI made it VERY clear they can NOT. Parents be warned. They DO NOT put that you need to consent to ALL work BEFORE they KNOW EXACTLY what they need to do in the packets like the dentist claimed. Make sure to review EVERYTHING on the packet, the website, and ALL review websites, including those for the individual dentists themselves, before taking your child here. The dentist herself needs to review the wording in the packet material they send out to parents before making an untrue/condescending claim to another unsuspecting vulnerable parent who didn't properly read everything. The dentist also said that if they were to pull out all 4 top teeth, my son would be forced to have a big gap, because they do NOT offer anything for kids to be able to take proper bites until adult teeth grow in. Apparently, only molars, even though the website states otherwise. They first took us to a small pre-op room that has books, toys, an ipad, and assorted stuff for kids. My son was excited and wanted to play with the things in that room while we waited for the doctor. Until one of the nurses came in and told us she was moving us to another room. She told another woman at the desk it was because they had a 5 year old about to come in, and they wanted that room for the older kid. Of course, upon being taken out of the fun room and put into a boring curtained off section behind the reception desk, my son had an absolute inconsolable MELTDOWN. There was absolutely nothing for kids in that sectioned off part other than an ipad they grabbed, which does not help with kids who don't have screentime. He wanted the books, colors, and to sit in the small chair. All the things in the fun room they first put us in. Hard to believe and appalled to learn that a medical office is pushing screens on kids. When I asked the dentist why she couldn't look in his mouth before telling me for sure if they needed to be pulled or not, she motioned towards my son, who was extremely upset that they ripped him away from the suff they just said he could play with and were forcing to stay in a boring gray curtain section, and made a comment about his behavior. Isn't this place supposed to be able to handle kids like that? Isn't this place SPECIFICALLY for kids who don't do well at normal dentists office or who need extensive work? There was absolutely no sympathy or attempts from the dentist to work with my son, it was like she was unexperienced with kids who are anything but calm and cooperative. This place does NOT work with the parents. The dentist will gaslight you and will become VERY condescending if you call it out. We traveled over 2 hours one way, leaving at 5am to be there by 7am, after waiting 9 months through multiple reschedules on their end, only to show up and be told we have to agree to everything or they won't do anything. THAT IS NOT SPECIFICALLY STATED IN THE PACKET ANYWHERE. THE DENTIST NEEDS TO REVIEW HER OWN SOURCE MATERIAL BEFORE SPOUTING LIES. read more

We had an apt for our daugther at 10am, we had to wait until 12pm to be seen by a nurse and until 1 to be seen by the dentist. My daugther is 5 and hadn't had anything to eat or drink since 7:30pm the night before, she was feeling dizzy and faint. What's the point of an appointment if we have to sit and wait for 3 hours??? The Dr. finally comes in, takes a quick look at her mouth and says she would be extracting both front teeth, we expected 1 to be extracted due to an impact injury, the xrays didn't justify extracting both. She also said she would probably be doing some root canals, pupectomies, silver crowns, fillings etc and would be putting silver crowns on her top eye teeth. This assessment was without having a complete xrays, which wouldn't be done until she was sedated. We were pretty overwhelmed and said that seemed like a lot of work, we said we would pay extra for tooth colored crowns for her front teeth, she said we don't do that, only silver crowns for eye teeth and molars. We asked for them to do all the other work except the crowns on the eye teeth, she said it was ALL or NOTHING in a very impatient and rude tone and asked if we recieved the info packet that said this. (they never sent us). Then she said they were an all or nothing center-no parental input or exclusions allowed. Either you agree to everything they want to do or they do nothing, including removing a dead and absessed tooth that is causing my daugther pain and discomfort. I asked if tooth colored crowns were available somewhere else, she said yes, but our insurance wouldn't cover them. Needless to say we left, we are getting another opinion, and if needed purchasing another dental insurance plan that will help offset the costs. Having my poor daugther start kindergarden with two missing front teeth and a mouth full of silver isn't happening; it is such a tender time in their lives and they are developing either a healthy or unhealthy self-esteem right now thatvwill follow them for life. To those who think why did we let our kid develop such bad problems, we didn't, she has a genetic enamel deficiency that makes her more prone to cavities . We brush her teeth with a sonicare and floss regularly, minimze her sugar intake, no juice, dried fruit etc.... PARENTS and CAREGIVERS, if you don't feel comfortable with something, don't ignore this feeling and think this is your only option. You can always find another way to accomplish something with some creative thinking, planning, and asking friends and loved ones for help if needed, your child is worth it! read more

My son suffers from anxiety and we were referred to PDI. I worried about my son going under anesthesia and was very concerned until the appointment day. The staff was absolutely amazing! I would have broken down but the staff was absolutely amazing! They made me feel comfortable and I met with everyone working with my son and explained their role. I admit, I started reading reviews on my way down to Windsor (from eureka) and I got major anxiety. Someone said the reviews were paid to be good- this is a lie!! The staff was AMAZING! They made sure every ounce of fear and anxiety my 6 year old had was eased. She went in to the procedure with 100% confidence and bravery. I can't stress how amazing they were. The waiting room was clean and well kept, we didn't have any wait time at all- they actually called us an hour before her appointment to let us know we could come in whenever. We were some of the first appointments after the shelter in place in March and I couldn't be happier with the cleanliness and their caution when seeing us. The procedure went smoothly, there were a few additional things added to her care plan and they were very transparent about the changes and went over them in great detail before I signed consent. She had one tooth extracted, 7 fillings and 3 crowns. They even made a tooth fairy certificate for the tooth they pulled since it was her first tooth and we couldn't take it home. I'm mad that people left 1 star reviews, but if you are reading this, I sure hope you take it to heart. After her procedure, she got to pick out a stuffed animal and they even packed up a giant bag of fresh produce, eggs and some pantry items for us to take home. 100% would recommend this clinic and I would take 3.5hr drive any time! They took teeth to prevent FUTURE problems but left absolutely no bite anywhere in his mouth, he keeps choking and crying. I will never understand leaving a child DISABLED because he may have future problems, with teeth he is supposed to lose one by one soon anyway ( he is almost 6). I trusted they would make his mouth better, they did not. He can not eat solid foods for months/years. read more

They did very good with my 6 year old and followed my wishes. They did give her ibuprofen without letting me know but obviously they wanted to give her something for pain and swelling. It would have been nice to have been discussed first, but what a little complaint. They called a few days later and checked on her. And they let me send pictures via text when I was worried about swelling. She also was very comfortable up until she started feeling the gas which they assured me was common. I had read previous reviews and became a bit nervous for my sons visit. However, we had a good experience. Yes the wait was long, and of course they fall behind schedule because they are working on young children and things don't always go as planned. Even though the wait was long & he was very hungry( we all were since we promised him we would wait to eat until he was able to) & tired, the staff was amazing, informative, friendly & did everything they could to make us all comfortable & help him to not be afraid. My daughter and I brought my two year old granddaughter in for extensive dental work. It was hard to have all of the work done in one day but it is done under general anesthetic. I was surprised when we were called in and told by an assistant that breast milk is thick, sugary and bad for children's teeth. It was recommended she be switched to cows milk which has 9 grams of sugar per cup. Breast milk does contain fructose but it is not deemed unhealthy for the kiddos. Overall it was fine and we are so greatful our little one is happy again and out of pain. read more

My five year old son needed a fair amount of dental work and they were very professional and did a great job of fixing his teeth. We were referred from his normal dentist because he had a molar with fairly bad decay that his dentist said would need to either be extracted or potentially could be fixed with a root canal and cap. He also mentioned four other cavities that needed to be filled as well, and recommended we go here so that they could do all of the work at once. When we got here and they did their own inspection, it turned out the bad tooth needed to be extracted, plus we needed three root canals and caps and a couple fillings. I was surprised because we brush twice a day and floss at least a few times a month, but they went over teeth care and recommended flossing daily with regular floss not the floss sticks, and also changing his snacks to less crackers and carbs. As far as the surgery itself and the staff, everyone was wonderful and very professional. We did end up waiting longer than expected (we experienced a two hour delay) but they had toys, books, and an iPad station to keep the kids busy, and I brought my laptop, so we stayed occupied while we waited. My son feels great today and I'm really happy that his teeth are all fixed. read more

We took our 6yr old daughter here today at the recommendation if our pediatric dentist. She had to have several baby root canals and other work done where she needed to be put under anesthesia. Needless to say we were nervous parents. The staff at this surgery center was top notch at every step of the way. We are Berkeley residents and were glad to have driven all this way to receive the care at this facility. The staff was on top of clearing procedures through insurance, carefully supported and explained all the details of the procedure, and administered the procedure smoothly. We were in and out in no time. Our daughter bounced back from the surgery so quickly that we wouldn't have even thought that she was ever even there. I almost let the bad reviews detour me to another dentist but i decided to give it a shot and I'm actually really happy with the work the dentist did. He restored all of my daughters cavities with composite fillings not silver and did not just cap them off like some of the other reviews I read. The staff was super nice and I feel made a huge effort in making my daughter feel comfortable. Me as a parent ended up being more stressed out about the situation lol if either of my children need fillings again in the future I'll be bringing them here. read more

Our 17-year-old autistic son had dental surgery today at PDI because he's too hyper-sensitive to have dental work done without anesthesia. In today's crazy world of poor service and uncaring employees, our experience with PDI was amazingly positive. All the staff - Nazareli the receptionist; Sandy, the intake nurse; Dr. Shaw, the dental surgeon; Dr. Zuckerman, the anesthesiologist; Patty, the nurse in recovery; as well as all other personnel - were kind, compassionate, helpful and patient. Tobiah struggled getting in the dental chair, but nobody panicked and we were able to get him seated comfortably before administering the anesthetic. During recovery, once Tobiah was awake, he wanted to go home now. The staff were flexible and allowed us to take him home when he was ready. Thanks to the whole team for a wonderful experience that will make it all that much easier for our son when he returns next year for another cleaning. We highly recommend PDI Surgery Center to anyone. You couldn't find a better center for your child's dental needs. read more

All I know is PDI staff went above and beyond to accomodate me as a stressful parent about to have a 5 year old undergo general anesthesia procedure. Within 3 weeks of the appointment i must of called minimum five times and every time i talked to a RN or staff they really gave detailed advice and comforted me as a stressed out parent. When i arrived the day of the procedure it was no different they were wonderful with my son. They were very informative and even the following day did a follow up. long story short, my son ended up with only 4 top teeth. The dentist pulled two additional teeth that we had no knowledge of and did not consent to. It seems that pulling teeth is quicker and easier for them than to try to save them. If you have any other means, then avoid this place. There is a serious lack of communication between parents, staff, and dentist. We left the facility with a child screaming in pain, a mouth full of blood, traumatized, and no dentist to be seen. We believe the dentist began treatment before the treatment plan was discussed with us. We later found out that the dentist is not even a pediatric dentist. We now are paying out of pocket to have a pediatric partial put in so our son can chew food. All the dentist had to say to me is "sorry you were mislead" and "your son can eat anything if he wants it bad enough". read more

This place is a joke. What is the point of having an appointment if they don't even honor it? Why not just call it first come first serve. Their explanation for having to keep your child from eating anything and then sitting in the waiting room for two plus hours is "it's just one day". Well I would like to see one of them not eat all day and sit in a boring room while listening to other kids scream and cry and remain calm. My son and I attended this office and I have to say it was the worst experience ever! The staff seem to be trained to make you feel nice and comfortable. My son was taken to the room for a medical history update. After, we were taken to the room. NO PRIOR EXAM was performed before putting him to sleep. Once he was on nitrous the staff asked for me to leave. I stepped out moments later I was called up and was presented a treatment plan with no explanation. asked for me to sign and since I work at dental office I looked at treatment plan and the treatment was very intense. I asked for his xrays and they hesitated to show me. Once I took a look at the xrays I'm not a doctor but am very familiar with looking at xrays and working with dentist all day for a minor cavity they were suggesting to place crowns. I said no I do not agree to treatment so as I disagreed they brought another doctor which by the way was very rude. He threaten me and said if I didn't do work they would call cps. after sending xrays to my doctor he also agreed not to do extensive treatment that PDI was recommending. especially for a 4 year old to do so much treatment on one day was crazy! I asked for them to wake up my son by this time they had already started treatment without my consent!!!! At any medical office they should always give you a treatment plan and an explanation of what they are doing and sign to give your consent not give their recommendations and just GO FORWARD WITH TREATMENT. I was really upset and do not recommend anybody to this office. With medical or dental office they get paid capitation it's not fair just because they want to get as much as they can from insurance not truly treatment needed! NEED TO BE VERY CAREFUL OF THIS OFFICE!!! read more
