Having another bout of insomnia on a day off. After laying around for three or four hours without…read morebeing able to go back to sleep, I decided to go out for a bite to eat. This is in my neighborhood and something I've been wanting to try. The place is sparse with Univision news on the television. I like it because I try to pick up what little spanish I can and try to follow the news stories. I loved the grandfather clock in the corner of this cute little shop. Sitting down I had waited about 10-15 minutes. A gentleman had come in, went in the back. The proprietor must have been in the back because soon she was out taking my order. I got a pizza pastel and cheese pastel (although I was trying to order some cheese balls, or Pao de Queijo, because I have had them at Peabody Bread Company and they're delicious and wanted to try these. But my pronunciation was severely lacking apparently!) with a cup of coffee. Coffee was good, and the pastels were piping hot and delicious. The pizza pastel is a little misleading, diced tomatoes/ham with cheese and seasoned with pepper for the filling. Still delightful and filling in the morning.

This casual spot looks inviting which is order & pay at the counter with painted murals, a few finished tree stump tables and more table seating in the Best Bagel area (they close up much earlier than Acailand). I stopped by Acailand for an acai bowl. Their touchscreen kiosk was not working properly, but it gave me ideas of topping choices I could add to my bowl. The acai bowls are priced from $13 (small 1-2 people) to $17 (medium) $19 (large 4 people) with up to 8 choices of toppings. I decided on a Small American Classic Acai Bowl ($13 plus tax) which has acai, strawberry, blueberry, granola, honey, and cashews and I customized with additions of mango, kiwi, and coconut flakes. My bowl was made to order quickly and packed up well, over the top with plenty of toppings over the rim of the plastic bowl. I drove down the road to a coffee place and enjoyed my very sweet acai bowl with some black coffee. They essentially made my acai bowl the way I liked it with plenty of fresh fruits, nuts, and honey. I couldn't finish this in one sitting and stuck it in the freezer to enjoy the next day. I would definitely stop by again if I happen to be driving by and need a sweet fruity dessert.

I would tell anyone that doesn't like incredibly fatty meat, or that likes their food cooked beyond medium rare to dine elsewhere. The hostess was friendly, we told her we had never been to the restaurant before, she quickly walked us thru the menu. Our waiter came by, we told him we had never been there before. We ordered various dishes, and plates of meat were dropped off. No explanation whatsoever. As he turned to leave, I said again, we'd never been there before. No insight into how best/long to cook anything. Every meat dish was incredibly fatty, like, 2/3rds fat. I placed meat on the grill, it cooked very slowly. I asked him to turn up the temperature as we liked our meats cooked well, so he turned the heat up. At one point he said he was going to swap out the grill-pan, and turned the heat down, while meats were still cooking. This was incredibly frustrating, I felt like food was taking forever to cook, and the longer I sat there staring at the meat, the more annoyed I got. It was all you can eat. We didn't finish our first order of 5 dishes we were so annoyed. It was not worth the money, it was an unejoyable experience. I've only been to a few self-cook Korean restaurants previously, and generally liked them. I think the staff needs to be more aware when someone asks for guidance, that they should try to be more engaged. I left angry, and still hungry.
