My mom, sister and I came for dinner a couple of nights ago. This is a local favorite, with a friendly staff and a casual atmosphere. My mom and sister both got burgers, which they really enjoyed. I opted for a chicken parmigiana sandwich with onion rings. The sandwich was tasty and I was happy it came with a side of sauce as it was a bit dry. The onion rings were crispy and hot. The restaurant has been there for a very long time. Old style menu but good not fancy but a just a comfort type restaurant . Good drinks and a wide variety of menu selections. Tonight (Saturday, Dec. 20), my husband and I tried another old-school, family-owned, local hangout-type restaurant called Wadhurst in Peabody, and it was busy but very uninteresting. The holiday decor was lame, lighting was so bright, the bartender was nice but extremely busy-didn't have time to chit-chat, and the ceiling vent above us (we sat at the bar) was caked with dust; it was disgusting. The potato skins and Buffalo tenders appetizers were delicious, plentiful, and affordable. So were their specialty drinks. But overall, it's one and done for me. I'm glad I tried it, but it totally lacked appeal, and I highly doubt I'll dine here again. read more

Great bar, especially Maria who runs the bar if you want to drink see Maria any complaints about your drink she'll fix it for you. She's that good and very polite and easy on the Eyes. My husband I went to this bar this evening to grab dinner and drinks however tonight was not the night. It took about 15 minutes for just drink order to be taken and another 30 for menus to be brought over. Both bartenders seemed so overwhelmed with orders from the dining room we decided to pay our tab as quickly as possible and go to a take out place next door for dinner. Been here multiple times over the years. There used to be a reason it used to be crowded most of the time and you have to wait for a table. Meatloaf dinner is awesome. I'll start by saying this was one of the best Greek dining experiences, the traditional Greek salad with a very large piece of exceptional quality feta cheese had the most glorious Greek salad dressing imaginable, totally over the top. And the main course seasoned lamb chops are something you hope to find in any good Greek restaurant. I am so disappointed with the new menu. They have removed everything I went there for. No more Greek lamb shanks, no Greek sampler platter, no more shrimp scampi. These were all the things they were famous for. Now it's pizza, burgers and chicken. Limited seafood. I would go to a Pizza parlor if I wanted this type of food. A friend recommended the Wardhurst, so my wife and I tried it last night. We were greeted right away and shown to a booth. The waitress was very busy, but she came over pretty quickly. The menu has a little bit of everything. I had the chicken parm, which was a good-sized piece of chicken. The sauce was very good, with a tasty piece of garlic bread. My wife chose the app sampler, which came with potato skins, mozzarella sticks, and chicken fingers. She thought all 3 were very good. The place was a bit loud, but not to the point that it ruined the meal. Overall, I give the Wardhurst 4 solid stars. We will be back. read more

First time eating here as we are a group of 4 that look for new places to eat. Nothing too fancy where we sat, but we're more interested in the food. The queen cut prime rib was selected by 3 of us, turkey dinner for the wife. The prime rib came just as ordered and tasted excellent. The sides were good also, and a bit larger amounts than we usually get at other restaurants. The wife was disappointed with the turkey dinner. She stated it tasted bland and a bit dry. Also it was doused in the gravy, we shared some of our prime rib with her as she was still hungry. I forgot the name of our server, but she was wonderful. She was attentive and kept bread and our drinks filled. The group will definitely come back again, but no turkey dinner will be on our menu. read more

Imagine this it's a 9 PM and I'm coming back from softball and what's on my right the horse. I decide this might be good for a treat. I walk in first of all. I was looking at some Kino. It was broken. I ordered some pizza I'm like can I get a slice of cheese pizza so now we're all gone I looked to my right someone's serving a pizza. I'm like how did she get the pizza and they're like it's all gone now and I'm like OK. 10 minutes. Go by I see the waitress eating pizza. My head was about to explode next I hear everyone complaining all the way just complaining about how I wanna quit. I'm like I don't wanna hear it. I'm just here to take a slice of pizza and chill out but no, I had to find something else to eat and then I was like oh can I get the Greek salad like you can have that but we ran out of dressing like I am so annoyed. After driving past it for years, my friend and I finally decided to stop in for dinner. Parking lot was packed, but we were pleasantly surprised after walking in, as we were seated right away, no wait. I had to try their fried chicken, I've heard so much about it! It did not disappoint! I noticed there was no drumstick, but there were two breasts, so even better! My friend got a Chicken Alfredo dish and said it was very tasty, and a huge portion. Both came with a nice salad. We made reservations for Thanksgiving. This was my very first Thanksgiving spent out at a restaurant after 60+ years! My friend Greg and I both went to this restaurant for the first time. The place was packed when we arrived at 3 pm, but I still didn't expect much after attending and / or cooking Thanksgiving dinner for many years. However, I was very pleasantly surprised at how good it was!!!! We were both very impressed and happy. We had a very generous portion that was truly delicious. It was presented very nicely and hot! The staff was wonderful, and we even got a visit at the bar from who I'm guessing is the manager or owner, as we had a short wait before dinner. Food was mediocre at best. Prime rib was dry and tough shrimp was kind of bland. Maybe I caught it on a bad night.

Just had dinner. OUTSTANDING. Peg had the chicken pie. Terrific. I had the scallops shrimp & fish baked combo. Very good. There squash and broccoli sides were hot and very tasty. The Wardhurst was having a special for one night, I want to say it was Columbus Day. The prices were reasonable so we decided to give them a try. We went in fairly late and we seated quickly. The restaurant was much bigger than what we expected when looking at it from the outside. The bar looked large and full. The waitress was attentive and very good. We ordered our food and waited. We started with potato skins and they were fine. Nothing outstanding but not bad either. It was a long wait for our food to come out. Our waitress came over to explain the delay in that they had been extremely busy all day and the kitchen was still behind and catching up. That made perfect sense and we weren't in a rush so it was fine. The meal finally came. I ordered the marinated steak tips which were quite good as were the fries. My wife ordered the baked stuffed shrimp with crab meat in the stuffing and she said they were quite tasty. My son ordered the fried chicken. They were golden and he said they were cooked perfectly. The service size was great and we all had food to bring home. We decided to order desert (Something we rarely do) because I saw a couple of deserts go by and they looked amazing. We settled on a slice of chocolate mouse cake. It was great. The mouse was soft and melted in your mouth, there was plenty of whipped cream and the cake was soft and moist. A great meal all around. The piece of resistance was when the waitress came over with the bill and told us that the desert was on her because of the lengthy wait for the meal. I guess you could say the desert was the icing for her because she received an extra bonus tip for her great service and attitude. Wide range of Beers and wines available. The Brownie fudge sundae was to die for. Fantastic On our second trip we had the early bird special which included a full salad, dinner and dessert for under $15 for most meals. Turkey dinner was good - real turkey with fresh veggies and bread stuffing. The Baked Haddock dinner was very fresh and nicely finished. Fun place to go - Bar area does get busy by 7pm. read more

Went for a late lunch on a Friday afternoon - the place was busy but not packed. Lots of parking and seating available. Big menu, including a special of the day menu. We ordered a lollipop meatball appetizer (which our waitress forgot to put in so we never got it - sounded good though) and my mother got the crab stuffed flounder (she got the last one so be aware they may run out of specials fairly early). I went with the potted lamb. Prices are great. My lunch portion was huge and only 9.99. The lamb was okay. I found the special Greek rice it was on top of rather bland. I liked the zucchini and carrot side. My mother wasn't a fan of hers. She just didn't like the fish. It looked and apparently tasted a bit dry. There's enough on the menu to justify returning to try more and I'd put this at more 3.5 than 3. Good lunch place on a busy Friday for sure. read more

I had heard and read good things about the fried chicken so I decided to try it myself. I was so very disappointed. The chicken was so greasy that even after we blotted it with a paper bag and paper towels we were still unable to eat it. It was flavorful but the inch of grease the bottom of the bucket is why we won't be getting any more chicken from there. I lived in Peabody most of my life but surprisingly dinned at the Wardhurst for the first time yesterday. The food was very tasty and the luncheon specials (from 11:30-3:30PM) were reasonably priced. I had a "baked seafood medley" with scallops, haddock, and crab stuffed shrimp. My husband ordered a "fried seafood platter" with fried haddock, shrimp, scallops, onion rings, and french fries. My father ordered a Philly cheese steak sub with fries and my Mom had a special, the almond crusted haddock. We were all pleased with our meals. The restaurant was a bit noisy, with a private party room on one side of our booth and a large family with children on the other, but the food was worth the noise. They have a nice bar when you first walk in the restaurant. Next time I'm on the north shore looking for a tasty meal out, I'll be back. read more

Not being a place I would normally patron as it appears dated and has a crowd of locals, it was for a recption after a solemn event. It was a little disorganized as the wait staff weren't aware then said that the reservation was not confirmed. Fortunately the kitchen staff were aware (as the reception was confirmed), and were prepared for a group of approximately 25. Which was fortunate. The wait staff just had to organize itself which took a few minutes. The staff were otherwise polite, pleasant, and expedient. Plenty of space in the dining area for our group, except we had to move our table so to make space for the servers to get by. For lunch I opted for the steak tips, medium rare. Meal included mashed potatoes and carrots. The rolls were warm and fresh. The steak tips had a delightful brown sauce that complimented well, with the steak being tender and well seasoned. The mashed potatoes were a little thin but otherwise had good buttery flavor to them. Carrots were what I would expect prepared at home as far as cut. They were mildly sweet but otherwise bland, a little salt or herb coukd have gone a long way. Ultimately this is a breed of restaurant that is dated in decor but serves great food. It isn't posh or frequented by hipsters, and to be honest I prefer it that way. With their menu options I think I would be able to drag my wife here. read more
