I don't like massages. Or at least, I didn't like them before Eliza gave me one at P&GT. Now I'm a believer! Seeking relief from back and neck pain, I've had many massages over the years from different places and therapists, but they all left me disappointed at best, physically agonized at worst. I had pretty much given up on them entirely, but after suffering a concussion in a car accident, and struggling for weeks without improvement, I was desperate. My head was a fuzzball, my body a twisted wreck. I didn't recognize myself, pained and lethargic, and I was getting concerned about the time it was taking to recover. Fortunately, a friend referred me to P&GT and Eliza, and I decided to give massage one more chance. Hallelujah! Eliza's touch was incredible, and more than that, she shared a wealth of information so that I could try to prolong the benefits after the massage. She took care of me from head (quite literally) to toe, and then focused on trouble spots. I have never been able to relax my muscles and let go like that. I was so comfortable in her studio, which was calm and inviting, and also creative and beautiful. I will definitely be back for more TLC at P&GT. Eliza is someone who obviously lives and breathes her philosophy and is genuinely enthusiastic about not only therapeutic massage, but also educating and explaining to move forward from her session and continue benefiting from it. She immediately found the source of my discomfort and then the surrounding muscles that had tightened up in compensation and was able to give me almost immediate relief as well as show me stretches and light movement exercises to continue to correct my woes. I think the acid test is that Eliza would probably be doing this even if it wasn't her source of income. It is truly a lifestyle focus for her and she brings the knowledge and attention you would expect of someone who has found their calling. Definitely one of the best out there!!! read more

Is there a way to add MORE stars to the rating system? If so, P&GT needs, like, 100. I absolutely cannot say enough about Eliza's ability to pinpoint the actual problem (sometimes it isn't where it hurts) and not only rectify it but tell you what you need to do (or not do, in my case) for preventative measures. She is wildly intuitive and 'really' cares about her craft. REALLY! I have referred many friends here. Her work isn't limited to feel-good massages...in fact, more recently I found out I had Plantar Fasciitis (WTF!!!) and while the diagnosis was a relief (ie., that it was fixable) I was still mad that I hadn't done something about it sooner....truthfully, I just thought it was a side effect of always being on the go, getting older, etc. But the pain became somewhat unbearable and made me less and less enthusiastic about getting out of bed in the mornings (those first few steps in the morning...OUCH!!). Before buying some crazy-ass bootie contraption I saw in the Skymall catalog (I'm not kidding- I was tempted...), I thought I'd try a more...homeopathic approach and see what Eliza could do. She worked on my legs and feet for almost 2 hours along with intense instructions to see-through over the next month... 24 hours later, I rolled out of bed and to my surprise, it felt like 75% of the pain was gone. I didn't have to shuffle to the bathroom like a geriatric patient!! It was honestly amazing. It has been about 2 weeks and I have obediently followed her instructions and feel so much better. It probably helps that she herself had experienced that same thing and found a way to 'cure' hers. In this case and ONLY this case, I am overjoyed to have benefited from someone else's pain... Eliza is an excellent massage therapist - I feel like a new woman! I have gone to her to help me work out some kinks, ease an injury and even just to offer some peace and relaxation. Eliza also takes the time to give a consultation about tips to use at home for stretching or to reduce my risk of injury. A massage therapist is a must for me because feeling well is a priority. That being said, I am strictly a deep-tissue type and Eliza's massage was nowhere near deep-tissue. After a proper deep tissue massage, I usually feel amazing. But right now, I am just regretting spending $90.00 for a 60 minute massage that would have yielded the same result as a $60 massage... PROS: 1. Eliza was Attentive 2. Seemed genuinely interested in making me feel physically better 3. Recommended some techniques to use outside of massage therapy 4. Did a great job on the neck CONS: 1. Did not listen to what I wanted. I told her that I got massages because of ache/soreness in my back due to sitting in a chair all day. After that point, she seemed to have stopped listening to what I wanted and was just intent on fixing my back... But I mean, if I had a serious back problem, I would be going to a chiropractor, not a massage therapist. A massage is supposed to be a pleasant, recreational experience... The first time that I attempted to guide her on how I liked my massage, she seemed unappreciative of the suggestion and said she could do what I requested but asked that I trusted her instead. As I was definitely open to trying new things, I told her that I would love for her to show me her techniques... After some time (and continued dissatisfaction) I tried again to guide her a second time but failed again. At the end of the massage, I told her my grievances. I told her that I liked massage therapists who used thumbs to actually pin-point the knots and then concentrated on massaging them out with their thumbs (she does not use thumbs). She remarked that those massage therapists will most likely have arthritis because of their thumb usage. (I do believe I'll now feel guilty every time a massage therapists uses thumbs on my back because I don't want to contribute to their arthritis). Still, schooling is mandatory for massage therapists and I'm pretty confident that they teach appropriate techniques to prevent them from incurring such an ailment; I don't really see a school teaching massage therapists improper form that could jeopardize their health in the future. Maybe I'm wrong. 2. When I get full body massages, I usually get massages on my feet; she worked on my legs, but did not bother to massage my feet. 3. She kept clutching me in underarms when massaging my arms/back... was not too comfortable or relaxing... additional CONS unrelated to massage performance: 1. Presentation, while not of the utmost importance, is still valuable. The massage bed had dull yellow sheets covered by a fuzzy, woolen looking green afghan. While the dull yellow sheets may be clean, they do not inspire much confidence, especially when compounded by dim lighting; perhaps I'm just accustomed to bleached white sheets. 2. The massage room was cozy (read: small) so the eye can sweep the room rather quickly. There was an aged crockpot underneath a chair, which I think may have best been tucked away elsewhere as it made me question the level of cleanliness in the room. I started to wonder if there was food stewing in the crockpot or if it's some forgotten relic with food and mold commingling inside of it. 3. The music selection was initially not too bad as it was just very airy and light... and then I was jolted by a voice in the music moaning in what seemed like despair.
