I came in on a Saturday evening with a small group of 7 and had a great experience. Our server was super friendly and helpful, ensuring everyone had what they needed at all times. The food took a little while to come out however when it did it was so good and flavorful. I got the sautéed shrimp with wild rice and asparagus and a Caesar salad. Everything was cooked to perfection and the rice mixed with red and green onions had such a great flavor. Definitely recommend if you're in the area for a nice meal in a nice ambiance.

    Cheese curds at Peacock Alley

A pretty standard bar along the main street of Bismarck. We sat at the bar and had a couple of beers with some food. First, the cheese curds. While delicious (and wonderfully not covered in breadcrumbs), they weren't hot when they got to us at the bar. Served with a dipping sauce, they were quite large and had a great flavor. I'd have these again but next time would send them back as not hot enough. I also chose the steak bites salad and it was a little disappointing too. For a bar that partners with what is probably the finest steakhouse in town, the steak on the steak bites salad was not great. Cooked medium well and topped with cheese over a bed of cucumbers and spinach and red onions, it had a good flavor with the blue cheese dressing (they were out of the ground mustard tonight) but lost points for chewy beef. Shrimp Salad & Rangoons

I went for lunch through the week & the wait was longer than expected but the food was amazing. I had crab Rangoons & the shrimp salad. It was delicious. The sauce they use is so so good!

Let's be clear from the beginning, you only got the second star because your Amaretto Sour was spot on and the servers were good, the food was not. Okay, let's get into this. Starting with our drink order, you were out of the N.A. Beer that my husband wanted, the one that is the good one and is usually stocked by all "high end" restaurants. As an appetizer, we ordered Asian Nachos, which had good flavor but poor execution. Everything was cold, like fridge cold. There was no attempt made in warming things up. I ordered a guacamole bacon burger, my husband ordered a prime horsey. First, let's talk about the guac bacon burger. When I got the burger it had about 2 teaspoons worth of guac on it, the burger itself was SO dry that it crumbled apart. My sweet potato fries where so over cooked that I ate about 3 of them and didn't have enough ranch to dip the rest of the dried out fries into. Now let's talk about the Prime Horsey. Well, to start, you hear the word prime and would assume you are getting prime rib, nope sirloin. The menu did note that, but if you are going to cut your quality maybe change the name. My husband got his food and it make my dried out burger look like a raw piece of meat. The beef was incinerated and the bun was dried out, he likened it to sawdust. His buffalo fries were good. We were with group of people, which I know is harder, but having worked in dining services I know it's still possible to get good food. We met in the back group room and our conversation was continually interrupted by the dishwasher banging dishes on the other side of the door in the back of the room. The servers were good and attentive, we appreciated that. The kitchen was not on their game, for more reasons then just the lousy food. The salads and appetizers came out timely, but the main course came out with no rhyme or season. Say guest 1, 7, 11, and 12 ordered the same thing, so those would come out together. Then guest 2 and 9 would come out together. Most of the people had finished eating before the last guy in the middle even got his food. This place has gone seriously downhill and I would not recommended a dinner or lunch there.

This happened a while back, but it bothered me so much I still think about it, so I decided to finally write a review. I ordered a gluten-free pasta dish and clearly informed the waitress that I am gluten intolerant (celiac). When the dish was brought out, I noticed a single regular noodle sitting right in the middle of the pasta. It was visibly different from the gluten-free noodles. Thankfully, I spotted it before taking a bite. Cross-contamination is a serious issue for people with celiac disease, and even one noodle can make us very sick. I asked for the dish to be taken back and explained that I was too nervous to reorder it because I didn't want to risk getting sick. Instead, I ordered a simple green side salad and specifically requested no croutons. A few bites into the salad, I found a crouton. At that point, I was extremely upset and honestly tearful. I informed the manager and explained how serious this is for me. I asked for the salad to be removed from my bill, given that it also contained gluten after I clearly requested it not to. They refused. For anyone with celiac disease or a serious gluten intolerance, this was not just an inconvenience -- it was a health risk. The repeated lack of attention to a clearly communicated medical dietary restriction, followed by the refusal to remove the contaminated item from the bill, was deeply disappointing. I hope the restaurant takes food allergies more seriously in the future and improves its kitchen practices and staff training so no one else has to go through this. Since this experience, I have never been back and would recommend others avoid going back to this restaurant.

After some research, I made reservations at Pirogue Grille. Glad I did. It felt nice as soon as you walk in. We were warmly greeted and ushered to our table. All tables had white table cloths and covered in white paper. There are crayons on the table so you can draw. I thought it a bit odd, but my wife enjoyed drawing. Being a former Marine, I fought the urge to eat the crayons. Service was prompt and efficient, but our waitress wasn't interested in small talk (which was OK). We ordered pre-dinner drinks; my wife had a Cosmo and I had a lemon drop martini (yes, I did...I sometimes order these for a pre-dinner drink). We both agreed that the drinks were some of the best we've had. I had the pork chop and it was EXCELLENT. I had thought I could scrap the chutney off, which I did a little, but it offered a great taste combo. My wife had the shrimp and said they were excellent. The entire meal was perfect for our anniversary. Entrees could not have been better. We had planned to have the dessert flight (small portions of all the desserts) but we could eat no more. Our server brought us a small dish of caramel popcorn. Just right for a bit of sweetness. We really enjoyed everything about the grille and highly recommend.

I'm sure this place is usually much busier, but I'm happy I lucked out. The staff were so friendly and attentive from the second you walk in, with such a warm welcome by the host. The restaurant felt cozy and still had plenty of diners despite the cold. I had the beet salad with goat cheese and pecans, and the bison braised short ribs. Both were excellent. I make a similar beet dish at home, so it was nice to have something simple, comforting, and genuinely delicious -- it felt like eating at home. The beef was incredibly tender and fell apart easily with just my fork. I also had the vanilla crème brûlée for dessert. It was pretty good, but it was cold, and I usually prefer it a little warm and smoother. Not quite the cozy dessert I was hoping for. That said, they had a great dessert selection, and I'm excited to come back and try something else.

Not unlike when grandma decorated her house in 1973 and never changed a thing. It is not bad or anything, it is just maybe not a great backdrop for poorly executed over priced food. Service was great, like most places in Bismarck, people are friendly. I love that. Saturday night around 6:30 there was no wait and we got to a table right away. Drinks were good, but the fresh bread they brought out was great! We started with the bone marrow appetizer, we liked it. It could have used a bit more seasoning and would have greatly benefited from a lemon wedge to balance the richness. I ordered the New York strip with Jack Daniels peppercorn sauce, and this is where the real problems started. The steak was way overcooked and under seasoned. The sauce had almost no flavor at all. The chewy peppercorns were the most entertaining part of the whole dish. I had planned to just eat it and not make a fuss; however, our server noticed the steak was overdone and offered to get me a new one. I said sure, thanks. No more than five minutes he pops back with a new steak. He told us that this one was ready but the other order was waiting on their pasta so they would fire a new one for the other table. I cut into the new one and it was more overdone than the first one. Now we have a bit of a situation and I felt somehow it was my place to solve it. I agreed to eat the new bad steak, so the other table could get one and we were both not having dinner. Quite the kerfuffle, when I had intended to just eat the first steak. When it was all said and done, I ate about half the new steak and a quarter of the first one, so it is not like I went hungry. The server came back and explained they were having some technical issues with kitchen thermometers and that he was going to take some of the price of the steak off our ticket. I feel this was a mistake. A gift card to give them another try or comping the whole steak would have been more appropriate. In all fairness though, the broken thermometer was not at fault for flavorless sauce, or the in seasoned steak.

The ambiance is that of a traditional upscale restaurant, with (most) patrons dressing in their Sunday best. Our kids enjoyed their food off the kids menu. We ordered a lobster bisque, Caesar salad, and crab cakes for starters. The lobster bisque was very, very bland--even for me! And I never add salt to anything, not even to most of my cooking lol! My husband was dousing it constantly. Unfortunately, even with all the added salt, it was tasteless. The crab cakes were ok, and the Caesar salad was standard. I ordered the pecan-crusted walleye for myself--it seemed a bit overcooked and I ended up eating only half. We tried chocolate cake for dessert and it was also just ok, a bit dry and also bland, surprisingly. I hate to give this place a lower rating because it's hard enough as it is to come by a fanciful restaurant in such a small town. They're trying, but need to step it up in the taste & preparation department.
