Where do I start? Peak Auto Service is not only the best auto shop I've ever experienced in the 20+ years since I began driving, but Mike (who runs the place) might just be the fairest, kindest, and most caring person I've ever met in my entire life. My boyfriend & I were just beginning a cross-country journey from Austin, Texas through New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and Nevada when our van suddenly died not ten miles after crossing over the New Mexico border. After being towed to a completely unhelpful auto shop in Raton, NM, a couple days later we were able to get towed to Peak Auto Service just after 5pm on a Sunday. I found Mike helping someone else in the parking lot, (though the shop was supposed be closed) and Mike agreed to take a look at our car on Monday, although there is a typical wait of up to 3 days. We knew the problem with the van was very likely related to the fuel pump assembly & electrical and that the tank would have to be dropped to assess the situation, so it was no small task to squeeze us in. Mike & his crew assessed the situation and installed a new fuel pump assembly that we'd purchased (which, they don't normally do), but soon discovered the fuel pump harness was likely a larger part of the issue, so they spent hours calling junkyards in town, trying to find a fuel pump harness for our make/model. A fuel pump harness in perfect condition couldn't be found in the short time we were hoping to fix the van, so they found one that they ended up splicing with the one we had. They had us on the road at the end of our second day there and definitely didn't charge us anywhere near where I expected the bill to be. Before we left, Mike also made sure our fluids & tires were all filled up for our long trip, at no extra cost, as well as taking extra care to point out exactly where all the important components were that we should be reviewing & maintaining before a long journey. Once on the road, Mike sent a message to me checking in to see if we & the van had made it safely to our destination. This is where the review would end for most mechanics (and, even there is pretty amazing), but on our way back, we had more issues with the van to which Mike helped us troubleshoot enough to get us back to his shop in Colorado Springs. Once there, he checked what was going on, along with fluids & tires, again, and found that the shop who'd recently repaired a blowout we had on our way home hadn't properly replaced the valve and we were lucky not to have another blowout. They fixed everything up and, again, barely charged us a dime. While we were waiting for the van to be fixed, I overheard Mike on the phone with a customer telling him how they'd found a way to repair something in their car instead of buying a new component and were saving them ~$150... With this kind of service, I can understand why there is a 3-day wait for Peak Auto Service. I'm certain that if we'd stayed in Raton, NM, our van would have never been fixed and we would not have made it to our destination. Within the next year, my boyfriend & I plan to move to Denver and the drive from there to Colorado Springs will be a small price to pay to have the best mechanic in the world work on our van. To begin with, when I have taken my cars to New Car Auto Dealers' shops, they always seemed to find more problems than what I was prepared for. Then, the $$$ kept climbing. I had heard "Good" things about Peak Auto on W. Colorado Ave....Not only did they have a "Homey" welcoming atmosphere, the Manager, Neil, was knowledgeable having many years experience, and was professional and polite...and the problems were addressed. More importantly, they explained to me what was going on, my options, their professional opinion, and supported me every step of the way. Not to mention their outstanding customer service and care. I needed some service done on my '17 Volvo and called around looking for a shop with a knowledgeable staff and reasonable prices. I was fortunate enough to find Peak Auto. Jesse was extremely helpful in scheduling my appointment and Jacob and his staff were highly skilled at fixing my car. There was an issue with the first set of brake pads due to conflicting part numbers, etc, but Jacob quickly resolved the issue and I am very impressed with how the car is driving. We were on our way from Denver to La Junta during the COVID-19 andemic for a family health emergency when our truck broke down. A bolt in the front on the track bar had lost its nut. We quickly searched the closest auto mechanic to our location and we found Peak Auto Service! Michael answered the phone at 4:58 (they close at 5pm)and said that they were closing but if we could get there they would wait. First things first: Scotty (the business owner) won Car Talk's coveted Golden Wrench award. If this means nothing to you, then read the rest of the review. For some of you, though, this may be all you need to know! I LOVE Peak Auto Service! I not only love them, but I TRUST them, which is kind of a big deal. If you've read any of my other reviews you'll know that car-related things stress me out because my lack of car knowledge always makes me paranoid that I'm being ripped off. That's why it's always such a relief to come to a place where I don't have alarms going off in my head when the mechanics tell me what I need. Scotty and his team have always worked with integrity when working on my car and my boyfriend's car. I recently brought my car in with 3 concerns: my horn was broken, my oil seemed to be depleting quickly, and my brakes were occasionally squealing. After checking my car out ($85 to do the diagnostic), they told me my oil and brakes were fine, and that it would cost $30 for the part to fix my horn. This is a situation where they could have gotten a lot of money out of me and I think a lot of other repair shops would have taken advantage of that, but not Peak Auto. Furthermore, Scotty sat down with me and we talked about my brakes squealing and what causes brakes to squeal and what I should be worried about and what I shouldn't. I thought this was awesome, because otherwise I would still be freaking out right now when they squeal. I have a friend with a Jetta who was quoted an exorbitant price to get new brakes through the dealership. I called Peak Auto Service and gave them the year and model of her car and their price was at least $140 lower than the dealer price. Another bonus is that if you don't have the time to window shop and enjoy Old Colorado City while your car is being worked on, they will gladly drive you back home and pick you back up when your car is done. And while I forget the name of her, they have an AWESOME shop dog that I'm in love with! read more

I was told while having my oil changed at one of the quick stop oil change places that I needed to have my brakes replaced. Not really being a car guy, but not trusting them to do the job went to Peak Auto Service. Peak Auto Service checked them out, drove it around Old Colorado City and made sure that it ran great before returning back to me. They said that the brakes had about 90% of it's use still left. They do free brakes checks. I drove away knowing my brakes were fine and not costing me a dime. Awesome service read more

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. Took my BMW for services there, way quoted one price, when the bill came it was another a much higher by 180$ on top 350$. The shop is dirty and disorganized. They did not have the tools need to do the service, but they will tell you they can do it any way. You can not get the car from them in till you pay in full. My father's 2002 Cadillac was leaking antifreeze and when my sister took the car to the local Cadillac dealer, she was told that the head gasket was blown and they would charge about $4500 to do the major engine work. I found Peak Auto Service through Yelp, called and spoke with Mike who asked us to bring it in so he could take a look. When my sister arrived, they checked the car out and found that the head gasket was not blown, it was a simple hose with a leak. The replaced the hose for $50, tested pressure, and everything was good as new. No wonder they took the Golden Wrench Award from the Car Talk Guys....they're great! read more

I took my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee to Scotty at Peak Auto at the recommendation of a coworker who is familiar with the myriad of problems that I have had with this car. Scotty remembered the coworker who had suggested him and was extremely friendly and nice as we discussed the problems that I had been having with my car. He drove my car and did a diagnostic on it and was incredibly thorough. He quoted me on what the necessary repairs were for my car and did not try to sell me extra services like I have had happen at Sears or Firestone...as I am not about to put $2000 into an almost 10 year old car! The repairs were done that day, but it was not a problem for them that I couldn't come and pick up the car until the next day (and Scotty offered complementary pickup and drop off service for me at work). Best of all...the final cost came in under the estimate...bonus! Because of my lemon car, I have had lots of experience with a lot of repair shops. This is the first time that I haven't felt ripped off, and can see why this place came recommended to me by another person. I'm thanking my coworker for recommending him, and now in turn, recommending him to all of Yelp because if you have to spend money fixing your car, I can think of no better place! read more

My two appointments involved an oil and filter change, a new battery and replacement of the front struts over two appointments. Unlike the large car dealership service departments with whom I have delt over the last twenty years, Peak Auto Service's office manager, Chad, is entirely familiar with the repairs and the customer's vehicle. My husband and I are traveling musicians and we were in Colorado Springs for only a couple of days. We needed to drive to Wisconsin later that week, and so we needed to get our car checked. Not only did they get our van in before we left, but they went above and beyond! ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE BUSINESS!!! Did shoddy work on my car (supposedly with a warranty). When had trouble with the work, the owner was rude, refused to stand behind his shop's work after his people initially told us that the part and work would be covered. This may have been a great auto service shop back in the day but the owner, Roger is just spooky. After taking my perfectly running car in for a winterizing check up I got back a car with no climate control! Every day I got a different story from Roger and after a week of bringing the car back in again and again, I was subjected to a weird verbal attack from a man that denied anything that he ever said and called me names. All the while talking in this seemingly calm voice; which didn't take the sting out of anything said. I became increasingly more and more upset which didn't seem to matter to him at all. Roger was saying ridiculous things like he wasn't going to replace a non functioning old part with a new part. His distorted logic was that my old part was "used". Just bizarre. It seems that he may be suffering from some sort of onset dementia and could use a good doctor evaluation. read more
