I recently reviewed my experience at Peak but I felt compelled to log in an update. I was having some difficulty shifting gears and I was previously told that I would eventually require a new chain. I took my bike over to be diagnosed and repaired and was told that I might be using the wrong procedure when shifting. They were right!! This bike shop is amazing. We called for them to build a bicycle we purchased online. They took us in the same day and had the bike built, tuned, and ready for pickup the next morning! They treated us like family, made sure we understood all aspects of the new bike, and were extremely welcoming and knowledgeable. We bought some accessories for the bike and they mounted everything we bought from racks to bells to water bottle holders! They have a full stock of clothing, bicycle accessories, bells, tools, replacement tires, and a wide selection of bicycles for purchase, from starter to high end. My pops gave me his old school Masi road bike last week. He's been bringing it to Peak Mountain Bike Pro for years so I figured it would only be fitting for me to bring it in back for a tune-up. The team here does such a great job and they are very honest. If they tell you the bike needs something, trust that they won't steer you wrong. The word is out that they do quality work at reasonable prices, so you might have to drop off your bike for a week or so. But know that it's worth it! They also have weekly long group rides for advanced riders, so if that's your speed, definitely ask Jerry about it. read more

Love supporting this local business! Ask for Jerry, the owner. Great work, attention to detail, awesome local business owners. During the pandemic, they stayed open since many folks got into riding. I've brought a number of bikes to them over the years and there's a reason why they stay in business. They are reliable, and do a good work. They don't upsell and will tell you honestly how much work needs to be done on your bikes. Parts and labor are fairly priced, and when I've had bikes serviced in the past, I can go up to 2 years without having to get it serviced again. On this visit, I brought in a bike that was inherited from a neighbor. Both tires were flat, and I was sure I had to get everything fixed. Sam helped to check out my bike, and thankfully, I only needed one tire replaced, but th3 tubes were still usable. They'll tell you honestly what parts are salvageable. Joanie is usually at the front desk, and can tell you realistic wait times, which is great for any busy parent. read more

Honest Mom and Pop business Went here to get my Uber delivery bike have a crate attached to it. Was charged only 10 bucks. Unfortunately the bike itself (Zoomo e-bikes) was low quality and I went back to get a suspended seat post modification. I was told it was not worth it, they could have just done it and charged me well over two hundred bucks but were honest and told me not to do it. Also the wife at the counter is friendly and talks to all the customers and they obviously love bikes and are life long bikers. Definitely the opposite of that e-bike rental company. I have bought several bikes at Peak and the service by Jerry (owner) and his crew has been excellent. Most recently last Friday the bike didn't shift well and Jerry found the problem and fixed. I was able to successfully ride a 31 mle loop around Manhattan yesterday so very happy. I highly recommend Peak! read more

Came here to swap my pedals because they were so tightly screwed into my bike that I needed pro's help in taking them out and placing another ones. The staff was friendly and quick. I had no wallet but did have samsung pay and they accepted it so they saved the day, fixed my flat, replaced my tube as well and upgraded me to my tire of choice that I wasn't able to find for many months. read more

Peak bikes are right off of northern blvd in Douglaston, and close to the LIRR. Easy street parking in a quiet residential area. You can't miss them. Several rental bikes are parked at the entrance of the shop and at the entrance there is an assortment of bikes (mountain, road, fitness...) propped up on display along the side as well as accessories and gear. Further inside you will see children's bikes and helmets while the operating room (where they work their magic on your bikes) is directly behind the checkout. Everything is nicely displayed for maximum exposure which complements the view of all sale bikes. We picked up 2 bikes on our first visit to Peak bikes several years ago and re-visited today for a quick tune up. My son is starting to outgrow his bike and can transition into an adult bike now and we immediately thought to come back. The showroom is flocked with an array of bikes and aside from the children bikes the ones they currently have are too big for him. Jerry looked in his inventory and located an adult small mountain bike that he plans to build in the next few days. I don't hesitate with purchasing from them because they are very helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and tell it like it is. The grips on my son's bike were tattered on the edge from his younger sister learning to ride and although they still had much life left I decided to swap them for new ones. The staff showed us to the grips best suited for his bike and explained because the handles needed to be shaved down, those were his best bet. They also installed them for us on the premises. The rear wheel of my bike had bent and Kenny adjusted them perfectly like new. Solid bike shop. Don't look elsewhere. They stand behind their products. read more

Came back for annual safety check. Jerry adjusted the derailers (and other things) and made sure everything was ok. Didnt even recommend changing brake pads, no upselling at all. Only recent purchase was a helmet the last 12 months. Been a client for 10 yrs. Need to support these guys otherwise we wont have their expertise when we need them. read more

Quick service even close to closing hours on a holiday! Representative/bike technician gave me a quick synopsis of what was wrong with my bike, dropped it off with them and they offered a tune up, which costed no more than $70 plus tax. I did not know I had so many problems with the alignment until I had consulted peak mountain bike. I will return to pick up my bike very soon! Hopefully it don't take too long! The bicycle my son uses to go to work needed a new rear tire. I called Peak Mountain and they were very nice and told me to come in and they could fix it for me in 10 minutes. We went by and they did just that they fixed the tire in 10 minutes and it really cost pennies on the dollar. Received very poor service from their technician who refused to work on or look at my ebike because I did not buy it from them - what kind of bicycle shop treats customers like that? He told me they do not work on ebikes purchased through the internet. A good bicycle shop should treat all potential customers with due consideration and respect and not brush them off because they did not buy their ebikes from them. Jerry, his wife, and staff are extremely nice and personable people. They're always upfront and communicate with you prior to making any alterations etc. on your bike. Peak helped resolve not one but two situations that I had with another bike shop. I had taken my bike to Roberts Bicycle (because Peak was closed unfortunately) to get my gears adjusted. Roberts had returned my bike after changing my cables (something that cost extra and was not part of the service I had left it for) without telling me. I was told that if changing gears still wasn't working that I needed to come back to them to buy a new sprocket. Peak took a look at my bike and informed me that Roberts had only changed my cables and left my rusted cable housing in which was the root of my issue. Peak helped me confirm the bs Roberts gave me and went on to complete the service I needed properly and with care. Now, I wouldn't go to any other shop, even if Peaks is closed. We rented bikes from here twice and both times the staff (Kenny + another girl who works there) were very accommodating. There's a beautiful road along the water (shore road) they had recommended- the opposite side of the cross island parkway path- that you bike about a half mile to, from this shop. The first time we went we had a valpack coupon which was great; haven't seen a coupon since then but I believe it was $12 hourly for rentals. They have a selection of bikes depending on what you're going for. The most impressive part is that although it may seem like a quiet shop, it's constantly busy with people looking to buy a bike or coming back for tune ups/maintenance (if you purchase a bike from them they provide this maintenance at no cost thereafter which is very helpful). We are not ready to purchase bikes yet but when we do next year we will definitely be inquiring here. read more

This is hands down the best bike shop in Queens. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly and they have the BEST customer service. I had already known in my mind what kind of bike I was getting and had already decided on a bike when all of a sudden I found this place. I was just passing by and by luck saw a sign to their store. Immediately someone was ready to help with any questions. They were never pushy and were completely honest with me. Their prices are very good and their service is incomparable. They recommended me the perfect bike in the perfect size, with the perfect price tag for the budget I gave. They let me test it out on the street and I was sold. Since purchasing my bike, I've been back several times for servicing (lifetime tune ups!) and they are always efficient and friendly even knowing I am not there to purchase a new bike. I'm always recommending this place to anyone I know who is shopping for bikes or need a rental. My first steps into this store, I felt a little like Bart Simpson walking into the Android's Dungeon. Having just tried (and failed) to assemble my first purchased bike in over 20 years, I needed help. Badly. Thankfully, the owner was ANYTHING but Comic Book Guy. Jerry is a swell guy if there ever was one. :) Despite having "NOOB" written all over my face, this man treated me like any other customer. He solved any problems and answered any questions I had, no matter how amateurish they might've seemed. He'll even offer advice. I feel more educated about bikes everytime I talk to this guy. I've always been beyond pleased with the service he's provided. I specifically recall one instance where I had a flat and despite the fact that the replacement tire was a little more expensive than the one I had, he gave it to me for the same price. I was stunned, and thanked him profusely. How many store owners are that nice these days?! Not many! I hope this place lasts forever. It's a shame I'm moving to another state soon, cause there's not another bike shop I'd rather give my business to than Peak Bikes. They even offer free tuneups for life if you buy a bike from them. Jerry and his wife are really unique store owners. As unbelievable as it may sound, despite the obvious age difference between the three of us, I could actually picture them as friends. My first review. Normally I'm a reader and not too much of a contributor but they definitely deserve one for helping me out. Dropped off a fork to be cut and mounted. Kenny helped me and was completely awesome. They're busy and fittingly so but got my frame back in decent turnaround time and extremely happy with the workmanship. They appear to be a family run business with a true devotion to cycling. I actually bought numerous bikes from another bike shop in the area without knowing about Peak (they're kinda hidden near the south side of the LIRR in Douglaston). That will certainly change for the future. They're going to get my business for sure from sales to service. The staff was outstanding with helping me to use clip ins (don't ask, but I will get it), making a few adjustments so I can ride off into the sunset. This is the only place to buy a bike shop. Great Bike Rentals, close to the CrossBay and near Fort Totten Park where there are bike trails, we only paid 21$ for an hr rent, which I thought was pretty sweet.
