I recently bought a used bike here that they built up from the frame with brand new components and tires. It's a good looking bike at $360, and it's been super comfortable to ride. Ted, one of the mechanics, helped me pick out the best bike for my needs, and was super nice to me and my dog. They also have sweet T shirts that I have my eye on!!

This had always been my #1 bicycle shop in North Brooklyn- (I've been coming here since 2010 for…read moreany and all of my bicycle needs)- unfortunately after coming here this last Sat (5.9.26) the individual that I was dealing with was so rude for zero reason that even after leaving my bicycle there, I decided there's just no way I can support that kind of customer service, returned and took it to another place in the neighborhood where the staff were down to earth w/reasonable custom service demeanors (I'm not asking people to make me a coffee or anything- just be a decent person and not an unnecessary jerk). It's sad and unfortunate because I like to continue supporting business that I've had longstanding report with but as someone who worked in the nyc service industry for years- I also can't condone inappropriately rude customer service that comes from nowhere. To the owners/managers who are reading this- I am sorry to inform you that the attitude of your workers do in fact translate into business being lost (I will be living in this neighborhood for a while and am an avid cyclist who visits bicycle shops regularly for my needs throughout the year, and there are plenty of other establishments that understand unwanted pretension is not smart customer service (is it ever really warranted lol) & that you can take your business to any number of them as opposed to dealing with mis directed attitude.

I wanted to like this place (even gave them a positive review after the first repair they did)…read morehowever I cannot stand by a good review. The poor reviews this place has received are warranted and accurate. My experience -- I dropped my bike off on the 19th was told I would receive a quote for the repairs. Initially the ballpark quote was around $100 and these repairs were *necessary*. 12 days later no word from them. I tried calling just their phones aren't working. When I told the guy working that the phone lines were down he just shrugged his shoulders saying "yea they're down. No repairs done after 12 days and now the cost of repairs was $150. I was pretty pissed at having to physically come in to the shop to get a status update on my bike. Regardless, when I told them I wanted to take my bike without having them service it they charged me an ASSESSMENT FEE(?!). I've been riding bikes for decades and have never been charged an assessment fee for just having a repair shop look at my bike. Isn't that what they're paid to do? When I took it to another (read: better) bike shop down the road they too laughed at the idea of an assessment fee. I hate this place. I have spent hundreds of dollars in the last three months at their shop and they are constantly looking at ways to up charge me. In the end, the other bike shop said my bike was fine and needed zero repairs. As stated earlier, the negative reviews you see about this place are spot on. I will never return and I encourage all bikers to visit Bike Plant or another -- literally any other bike shop -- in the area.

I do want to give a little grace since it was close to closing time, but the experience still left me disappointed. There were a few people inside, including staff, and despite making eye contact while they were laughing and chatting, I had to actually raise my voice to get someone's attention. When I finally did, I was told "pumps by the door," and they went right back to their conversation. It felt more like I was interrupting a group ride than walking into a shop that helps cyclists. To their credit, the pump was enough to get me home. When I brought it back, I was again told to just "leave it by the door," which reinforced the feeling that they wanted as little to do with me as possible and to get me out quickly. But if I come into a bike shop saying I nicked my tire, I'm really hoping for a new tube and a bit of help getting back on the road, not a quick solution that gets me out the door. I've heard from friends that this is supposed to be a go-to shop for cyclists in Brooklyn, which is why this was especially disappointing. Maybe it was just the timing, but the overall vibe came off more disinterested than helpful.

As a woman who bikes but doesn't know a ton about bikes, I often feel like guys at bike shops talk down to me / try to take advantage of my lack of knowledge and overcharge. I never have that worry at Haven; they explain everything so I can learn, and make sure I understand all my repair options. Truly the best!!
