From the moment we moved to our home in Portland, we had the very fortunate coincidence of choosing a building offering dog walking/sitting services. So began our relationship with Pearl Paws and Nikki and Tony. For over a year now they have been walking and caring for our Aussiedoodle Madiba and she has fallen in love with them and their dog Millie. Madiba is very picky about who she loves but it became clear very quickly that not only was Pearl Paws a loving, caring, personalized pet care service but they quickly became part of Madiba's very small circle of chosen people. We have lived in a few cities over the years and the biggest challenge has been finding trustworthy and caring pet walking/sitting services. We feel so fortunate that this was one of the easiest things about moving to Portland and that we found Pearl Paws right away. We rarely leave Madiba with sitters overnight but recently, my wife and I had to fly out of the country for a brief period and were agonizing on the prospect of having to leave our Madiba behind. I can't stress how reassuring it was to know that we could count on Nikki and Tony to care for Madiba. She is not the easiest and most happy go lucky pup, she doesn't like to be left alone too long and she's very reliant on human interaction. While we stressed about leaving her behind ( especially my wife), we knew we were making the right choice with Pearl Paws. She was able to spend her days hanging in their home and with dog Millie, who has now become Madiba's friend. In the evenings, they took her back to our home so she could be in her own space with her own things. Most touching was that they took turns spending the night at our place. We knew this would be extra work and added pressure for them considering that they have a healthy client roster but they took impeccable care of Madiba. It's rare to find a pet care service that takes personalized interest in your fur baby but and that's exactly what they provided, a personalized attention to our Madiba. Now, that's what I call service beyond the call of duty. The remaining days of our trip where spent worry-free knowing our little girl was in good hands. I suppose you would think that loving dogs would be a prerequisite for running a pet care service, but there are those who say they love dogs and then there are true pet/dog people, who LOVE dogs and take the time to understand the individual needs of each dog. When I first reached out to them about walking for me they promptly set up a time for a meet & greet and I could tell they were very experienced by the good questions they asked! Now they have been walking my dog 3-4xs/wk for about 4 months and have been so wonderful. We moved to Portland one week before heading out for the big eclipse -- arriving after a pet sitter friend we had arranged for flaked out. After reviewing and discussing options with locals, we selected Pearl Paws and were impressed from the start. Nikki arrived 2 days before our departure so she could meet and greet our kitty, learn about her needs -- and she took notes about it all, too! We even discussed what would happen if kitty got sick and we were out of range -- great thinking ahead. While we were gone, we got sweet notes and a photo texted to us after each visit, keeping us in touch with our girl and letting us know she was well cared for. After we returned, Nikki followed up and we will feel super confident that we've found a great sitter/friend for our kitty next time we're away. Nikki and Tony did a phenomenal job caring for our orange tabby (Maine Coon? he's a big dude) when my girlfriend and I went away for a few weeks over Christmas. Not only did they give our dog-like cat the much needed attention he was desperate for, but they sent us video and picture updates, were always available via text, and were extremely thorough with their intake interview, which convinced us that they were going to do an excellent job even before the sitting began.
