Good day, I wanted to share my recent experience at Pearle Vision in Chesapeake, which was absolutely horrible due to their customer service. When I walked in, I had no idea where to go and ended up standing there for 10 minutes before finally asking someone where to go for my appointment. The lady at the front desk just said to go to the back without any further assistance. Once I reached the back, everything felt rushed, including my interaction with the doctor, who seemed eager to finish quickly. This made me very uncomfortable. After my exam, the doctor left and I was instructed to return to the front desk to pay my co-pay and reschedule. When I went to pay, the customer service representative whispered loudly to a colleague about my diabetes, which is a clear violation of HIPAA. It was unprofessional and inappropriate to discuss my private medical condition aloud for other customers to hear. Following that, I sat down with another lady to get my prescription filled and glasses fitted. She was dry and unpleasant, even trying to discourage me from filling my prescription by saying it was very expensive and implying I couldn't afford it. The prescription alone was quoted at $408 plus tax. Frustrated, I left with my prescription and went to Walmart instead, where the environment was completely welcoming and the price was $200 cheaper. Based on this experience, I would never return to Pearle Vision in Chesapeake and would advise all of my friends to avoid this location. The business is rude, overpriced, and unprofessional. Came in for an already scheduled appointment @1:45pm. I came in and was not greeted or anything from the 2 employees that were in the front. I saw a sign at the first desk to sign in and it was also confirmed when the person who came in behind me was told immediately to put their name on the clipboard and patiently wait to be called. Now I have never been here before so I figured that THIS was protocol. I waited about 10 minutes before they called my name on the clipboard, just for them to tell me to go to the desk in the back and check in for my appointment. I'm a bit disappointed because nobody asked if I had an appointment when I came in... it was just put the name on the clipboard. I didn't get seen until about 25 minutes later past my appointment time. I wish they had 1. A better system or 2. More aware employees that asked more questions to point people to the direction they needed to go. I get the impression that the employees here are only to do the bare minimum here and nothing more to be of assistance. Once I got seen, it was a fairly quick process which I appreciated. I waited on hold for 32 min, no-one came back to the phone. Hung up called back, they answered. I told the stank attitude young lady how long I had been on hold - no apology, no nothing, just attitude. YOU chose this job! If customer service is not your strong suit then do not work in a customer service job. Leaving somebody on hold that long is unacceptable for a business. This place is a franchise; yes, like Burger King. I had an eye exam with Pearle in Roanoke, Virginia last year. Because Pearle has locations throughout Virginia, I decided to schedule my appointment in-person at the Chesapeake location. I could have made an appointment online, but I was conducting business across the street, so I stopped in. I was given two appointment options online that required only a 15- or 30-minute wait. Although I was the only person in the building, the receptionist read from a script about crowds and how I would have to wait behind others because my appointment was a walk-in appointment without priority. She also informed me that I would be considered a new patient, and they had access to none of my records from any other location -- because they are a franchise. What a crock of crap! The same company, yet no access to my eye exam records? Should they not be able to determine how my eyesight has declined over the course of a year? Horrible business model! read more

Do not go to Dr. Patel. He is nice, but his insurance biller, Samantha, overcharges insurance co-pays. After contacting my insurance company and verifying that I owed $50 and she charged me $120, I confronted Samantha. She said she has been doing it that way for 3 years. This is unethical if not illegal. You can't overcharge on the off chance insurance won't cover. I do not recommend this business. read more

The Pearl Vision Center at 1412 Greenbrier Parkway in Chesapeake (near Barnes and Noble) is the best! After years of seeing optometrists in Pennsylvania, Hawaii, and Florida--by far the Dr. Patel and the staff at this Pearl Vision in Virginia are wonderful. The doctor is obviously an expert in his field and he and this staff are genuinely friendly and helpful. The waiting area is bright and clean with a very large selection of frames and the exam rooms are clean and comfortable. My husband went there when we first moved to Virginia, and now our entire family of 8 are huge fans. Totally recommend! read more

This place is in a convenient shopping center with an optometrist on location. My family eye doctor moved to the Peninsula and due to needing eye glasses ASAP before the end of the year "use or loose" benefit, I had to settle coming here. I was able to get an appt the same day and found the perfect pair of glasses. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and I was asked if I needed help by another lady as I was grazing through the glasses. I did notice, the staffers greeting customers by their first name upon entering and leaving the store. It made it feel like a neighborhood doctor office. I also notice there were personal conversations going on while customers where in the office that could be overheard, which seems a little unprofessional. The lady that checked me in was also the one who did my initial eye exam. She seemed to rush everything and didn't asking any questions about my visions or if I had any problems. I also felt rushed by the eye doctor as well. He was nice and seemed very knowledgeable. But it's something when you go to a doctor and you can feel that they "care" and here I didn't really get that. Maybe because of the location, they see a lot of in and out clients. But the store was clean and had nice options of brand glasses. Glasses were reasonable priced and you can take it home the same day. read more

I'm a customer of pearl vision for over 10 years. I even brought my mother, child and husband to pearl vision. A few days ago I went to pick up my mothers glasses and contacts and one of the ladies asked me what I needed I told her I was there for pick up. She asked me to write my name on signup sheet and I would be helped and I said okay. I waited for a long while before I was helped. What struck me is that there was a white gentleman who came way after me.. the same lady asked him what he wanted and he told her he was here for pick up. She asked him his last name and did not even sign his name ( I moved away for him to do so but he did not) and she started helping him !!! She could have helped me but let me wait until I was helped by someone else and he was being helped already. I am a paying customer too and my money is no less than anybody else there! The lady was white and I'm black. I can't help but think about this as a racial discrimination! As a long time customer, this experience was upsetting! read more

I've been going to Pearle for years. They are friendly and have taken care of me, even when my glasses broke? ***IMPORTANT*** So what is the problem? About 2.5 years ago, my left eye was slightly blurry. It just didn't seem to focus right. When I asked the doctor what was wrong, he said I had a cataract forming, but it was too early for surgery. My next year's appointment turned into 1.5 years due to covid. When I went back, my vision in my left eye was significantly worse. In fact, if both eyes were that bad, I wouldn't be able to drive and reading would be extremely difficult. In any event the doctor said I was ready for cataract surgery and referred me to Virginia Eye Consultants. The doctor there told me that I actually had cataracts in both eyes, but there is little difference in both. It turns out I HAVE GLACUOMA IN BOTH EYES. Barring a miracle, my left eye is permanently damaged. Why wasn't that detected after two appointments? I realize the second wouldn't have helped, but Pearle could have saved my left eye. Thank God for Virgina Eye Consultants or I'd soon be blind. read more

My experience was excellent! Monica was funny and very helpful. Andrea was super sweet to come over and help me decide. I briefly met Debbie, the manager who was also lovely. Mary helped me when I picked up my glasses (Earlier than expected- bonus!!). She made sure they were comfortable and I was happy. In the past I've gone to another eye glass store (not Pearle). They were never able to make my high prescription lenses to where I was comfortable wearing in public ( and yes I paid a lot to get them to look the best I could). Pearle Vision you did it! I am amazed at how great my new glasses look! Finally I feel comfortable wearing out! I can't see any of the lenses outside the frame. I will never get glasses anywhere else! The receptionists at this location are not friendly. Not one greeted me. There was a lot of "bring it here" "have a seat" and personal conversations. I didn't leave with a good impression of them. In contrast the woman working in the sales portion was warm and pleasant. Its unfortunate the office staff was not welcoming because the doctor was friendly and informative as well. This review is based solely off the exam portion and not the sales staff in the front of the building. The eye exam was so rushed and robotic that it was actually a bit bizarre. The woman rushed me through everything, and didn't care if I had questions or if something was unclear. I even commented to her that they didn't mess around with moving people through. Definitely sales/volume motivated and not individualized. I was fitted for contacts, and although I have worn these before, I thought it was weird that they didn't even check the fit afterwards. They gave me the wrong prescription and instead of offering to investigate and correct the situation, the lady at the counter called me a liar and argued with me about fixing the problem. The women in the medical office portion of the building are horrible. I work in a medical office myself but I never take out frustrations or stress with patients. They may have been overbooked but their indifference was practically insulting. I tried to give the benefit of the doubt but it was in vain. Dr Borza was great however.
