This was my first time at this Pearle Vision store. From start to finish, the customer service was exceptional! Abi was our technician. She's very skilled in her craft. She was attentive and patient with my search for new ray ban aviators. This segues me to why I was there in the first place. To make a long story short, my husband lost my shades during one of our travel ventures. He surprised me and brought me to this particular Pearle Vision in Commack, NY. Do what they say, simple. Just don't say something to look good. They took an order for glasses and didn't deliver. Went back a couple of times, after calling a couple of times. They said that the girl who took the order was sick and then changed there story and said that she's on jury duty. They will call me tomorrow either way. They will work with me. This review is regarding Stony Brook. Let me start by saying the doctor was excellent. My complaint is with staff member PEGGY. My appointment started by arriving to locked doors and lights out. Then I was told there was an appointment mixup and I was 10:30 not 10. After my exam, Peggy very slowly typed my prescription that was different than the doctor told me. She would not question the doctor and instead sent me to the waiting area but did not tell the doctor I was there. Other staff members questioned why I was sitting there and she finally went into the doctor for clarification, which should have been her immediate remediation. read more

I have been going to this Pearle Vision for over 10 years. The front desk is the problem. Rude beyond. They lie, keep you on hold for about 5-10 minutes and lie about being with customers. I can say this honestly because I have been in the waiting area and I watch them do this. Martha specifically. Jasmine is helpful. Since Dr. Devore is semi- retired, the practice has gone downhill. I took my business to Cohens in the Walt Whitman mall and spent $3,500 on glasses and contacts for my family. Sorry Pearle! Big mistake losing MY business! The employees at this location fixed my glasses free of charge and without an appointment in the middle of the coronavirus shutdown, saving me a great deal of trouble! I have had the WORST experience with Pearle Vision in Commack. I went in for my annual exam and had been having issues with my vision (distance). During my exam Dr. Theodore Devore told me that both of my eyes' prescriptions had changed and that he would write the new script for new lenses. I didn't plan on getting new frames since they were relatively new (just new lenses) and was going to order a pair of prescription sunglasses as well. A week later I went to go get the "new lenses" put in my frames. Shortly after I left I realized that I still was having problems seeing. I called back the next day to inquire about why I still couldn't see with the new lenses and the woman informed me that there was now new prescription on file and that the lenses that were ordered were my old prescription. She also informed me that they ordered the same old prescription lenses for my sunglasses. At this point I was pretty upset because I had spent an hour getting examined and waited a week for the lenses to come in, the. came back to get the "new lenses" and now was being told I would have to come back in AGAIN to get re-examined because there was no record of a new prescription. So I go back in on 3/11 to get re-examined and explain the above to Dr. Devore and he basically tells me that my prescription must be correct because that is what he entered (even after me informing him that he told me both eyes changed). He proceeded to try to tell me that I am probably having issues seeing in the distance due to using a computer at work. I responded by explaining that I am having the vision issues even in the morning after sleeping all night. Dr. Devore then gave me a very quick and not thorough eye exam and then told me "Well what your results are now seem a lot different then what I have down for you" and repeated again that he would change my right eye a bit but that its probably just strain. After this exam I was totally appalled. How can I trust this doctor and my results after he told me two separate things on two different occasions and rushed me through my second exam? He treated me as if I had no idea what I was talking about meanwhile he didn't even remember what happened at my last exam. I went to the women at the desk and said I would like to see another doctor before my new lenses are ordered since he gave me two different opinion and I am spending A LOT of money to have these done. They told me to come back to be re-examined by another doctor and that they would give me a credit. I am SO upset because I have now wasted almost 4 trips there (leaving work early), have been treated so poorly, this has been going on for weeks, and I was told that I cannot get a refund since I paid in cash upfront but they will correct the lenses. I am going for my THIRD exam tomorrow and hope the female doctor can help me. I think I should have been granted much more than a small credit. This has been an incredible inconvenience to my time and to my eye health (I can't see properly when driving and am getting head aches). I was treated in a totally improper manner and I cannot recommend this place and ESPECIALLY this doctor to anybody at this time. Totally unprofessional for a DOCTOR to be acting this way. read more

If you have vision insurance skip the grumpy overcharging doctor at the Commack location and head to Costco (they now take insurance). It will cost you 1/3rd the price. If you don't have insurance skip the grumpy overcharging and obnoxious man at the COMMACK location and head to Costco and pay $200 for frames with transition lens. If you are thinking about getting vision insurance skip the useless insurance company and the useless grumpy man and head to Costco. Cash or credit card is better for glasses and contacts than insurance. If you already have vision insurance go see the Grumpy old man. Pay the $15 exam fee, grab your prescription and head to Costco! I've been going to Pearle in Commack now for over 10 years. Even though my insurance doesn't cover them, they are close to my house and it's easier for my 3 girls. Yesterday, I took my 15 year old there to get more contacts. As soon as they looked my daughter up in the computer, they immediately said she must get an exam because it's been over 1 year (99) and a contact fitting fee (55). I told them that I've been a customer with my kids for 10years and to please waive at least one of the fees. They told me no and that it was impossible to do. Well, I walked out and went to vision works in Hauppauge and they could not have been nicer... I will never go back to Pearle. They were so nasty...Stay away... read more

I'm actually standing in the store as I write this review waiting for them to fix my glasses. I am so angry I bought them here not because of the quality or the doctor but because they have these two 50 something year old women, at the front desk that fight with each other like caddy high school girls. Bickering In outside voices... "Really Lori??! really Lori?! you could have had this done this already, are you kidding me. You're acting like I've been bullshitting around" They are so unprofessional, all 3 times I've been in there over the course of a year, these same two women are BITCHING at each other or to someone else in front of customers... In reading all the other reviews. One thing I have learned in life is that you can't make everyone happy. Another thing is that the saying "the customer is always right" isn't always true. People are going to complain about anything and everything. With that being said.... I bought my first pair of glasses at a place that I will not disclose.. I knew nothing about glasses and walked into this unnamed optical place and they were very nice but it was only to make the sale. Which they did, I had purchased a pair of glasses that wasn't the right fit. I spent allot of money on something I couldn't stand wearing at the end of the day. Painful and uncomfortable... So I ventured on to find a place that would educate me and work with me. And that is when I found Pearle Vision in Commack. I walked in and was instantly greeted. By Dawn. When I explained my situation and experience both her and Ross literally worked with me for just under an hour to ensure I walked out comfortable, happy and satisfied. Which I did. This was a couple of years ago. Since this time. I have purchased prescription sunglasses, bought both my son and daughter their glasses and sport glasses, and my wife to get her glasses. The owner Ross and his father Dr. Devore are so sweet and helpful! My contact ripped on the day of my masters graduation so I called them and they gave me a new one no hesitation! They even sent me multiple trial contacts of different brands to make sure I found the most comfortable one- I've seriously never experienced such amazing service- also the prices are unbeatable and don't compare to lens crafters where we used to go (and were ripped off)! The best part is that they are totally unapologetic and offer zero problem resolution but blame it on their vendor. My husband and I made a last minute appointment at the local pearl Vision... from start to finish we had a wonderful experience ! Allow at least an hour if not more between eye exams and then picking out glasses .. but that is to be expected... the staff was very pleasant throughout our experience and the doctor was pretty darn good! He took the time with both me and my husband and made us feel like he cared ! I would highly recommend them and don't listen to the rest of those reviews! I cannot believe how rude the staff was at my appointment today. If you are not there to spend hundreds of dollars, they don't want you to waste their time. I have a pair of broken frames and they first told me they couldn't order the part. Then all of a sudden when I called another location, they could order the part, but for more money. When I decided to wait and decide what I wanted to do, the woman threw my receipt on the desk and said "you're done." Absolutely the best place for all your vision needs . I feel lucky to have found such a wonderful place . Extremely knowledgeable staff and wonderful service . They have the best selection of glasses and contacts (I wear both ) I have a large head usually have difficulty finding something I like . I had so many choices that suited my large melon .My eye exam was seamless . I used to dread my annual exam but after coming here I can't wait to come back !!! I was charged 70 extra dollars for a contact lens perception because he billed it as a fitting. In all the years of me wearing my contacts I have never been charged anything extra. When I presented them with this problem they said they charge this for their rent!!Not only was I upset by the extra money but every single woman in their had an attitude and was extremely rude. they were all childish and made it obvious they were unwilling to help me but the doctor yelled at me and had me crying as well as another girl who left hysterical right before me. This doctor overcharged me and got my prescription wrong. He did not want to exam me for contacts and glasses bc he wanted me to come back so he can recharge me for a contacts exam. But he already charge me for that. I will never come back here. This doctor should retire. And his customer service team was the worst. I have contacted my insurance company regarding insurance fraud with Pearle Vision. I ordered glasses for my daughter in June, 2015. Staff totally clueless about insurance claims. I personally called insurance company while in the store to verify coverage for them. A day after my visit, I was told by Susan that they never get paid by insurance companies and I'd have to wait a month for glasses until insurance paid them or I can pick them up and I would pay in full and I should submit claim to insurance company because it would be faster for me to get paid then Pearle. I decided to pay out of pocket and submit claim to my insurance than wait the month for the glasses. Pearle vision put a claim into my insurance company, and got paid in full, causing my claim not to paid. This Store is fraudulant, and the staff is clueless and unprofessional. read more

I've been exclusively going to see Dr. Devore and his excellent staff for 10 years now, and I wouldn't consider going anywhere else. Ross, the head optician always goes above and beyond to ensure I'm completely satisfied with my glasses and contacts. I've never once been disappointed. I think some of these negative reviews may come from walk-in patients that come in on a busy day demanding hands on service without any wait. I've never waited more than a few minutes for an exam if I had an appointment, ever. If you walk in and need an adjustment, you may wait a few minutes but they are always up front about this, and honestly with a small family owned business, it's to be expected. I'd much rather wait a few minutes and get exceptional hands-on assistance than to be rushed with such a huge decision (I wear glasses ever day of the year, and i want them to look and feel awesome! And Ross and his staff insure this!) They are great at communicating, always giving updates on orders and confirming appointments. Excellent doctor, excellent staff, excellent service. read more

I don't like giving anyone a bad review. But I did not have a good experience and the staff and owner. Very pushy, and did not listen to my concerns. My glasses did not perform as advertised and instead of approaching the company making the anti smudge product - they told me to. They didn't (or chose not to) even have a working knowledge of a simple word and twisted it for their needs) The lens coating was supposed to repel fingerprints, dust and and scratches. It was worse than my old glasses. Repel: me.. To push away, to discourage - as in insect repellent. Them: You can wipe away the same number of smudges easier. They never even looked at the commercial for the product!! read more

I have been a patient and customer of Pearls Vision in Commack for a few years now and I am always blown away by their customer support. They truly care each one of their patients. The optometrist always make me feel comfortable and truly want to get to know who their patients are. The first time I came, I was ready to make a drastic change in the type of glasses I wear. The owner, Ross Devore, took all the time in the world picking out glasses for me that were outside my comfort zone. He clearly knows what he's doing and picked out the perfect pair for me. I was in the office for 45 minutes just to complete a simple DMV vision test- which took only 1 minute with the doctor. I was first told that I would need to pay $99 for this, when in fact I was being charged for an optional eye exam and the basic DMV vision test is only $15. The doctor was very rude when I declined the full eye exam, and rushed to complete my DMV form. Turns out, I got my form mailed back from the DMV because he incorrectly filled out my form stating that I failed the eye exam (which included reading 4 letters on the wall). When I called the office to resolve this issue the doctor was extremely rude, did not apologize for the mistake, and hung up on me without saying goodbye when I was not done speaking to him. The women working at the reception are very nice and try to be as helpful as possible despite the lack of communication on the doctor's part. I would never return to this office due to the long wait, rude doctor, issues with incorrect pricing/ communication of services needed, and sloppy mistakes made from rushing through patients. read more

I never take the time to write a review but I feel I need to in this case. I've been a customer of this store in the past but will never and I mean NEVER go back there again. They are the most unprofessional group of people I've ever had the displeasure of doing business with. I gave them my new phone number 3 times and my son gave them his cell (as they were his glasses) and still they called our home number which no longer has a phone connected. This delayed my son in getting his glasses by about 3 days. I finally called and that is when I realized what had happen. When he went to pick up the glasses no one even bothered to check with him to see if they sat properly on his face (they were his frame but I still feel that someone should have checked to make sure they were okay) They didn't even send him out with a cheap small case. He couldn't see out of them even after trying to get used to them for a week or so. The center of vision seemed off as well as the peripheral vision. He went back and all the "doctor" did was give him a weaker prescription...well now they were too weak, maybe even weaker than what he went in with. We don't know for sure b/c the "doctor" didn't keep a record of the prescription that he came in with! Long story and it really is a long story, short, I gave them two opportunities to make glasses that my son can see out of and they failed. It was going on two months so at this point I simply asked for a refund so I can move on. I won't tell you the shenanigans they wanted me to go through to give them yet another chance. The doctor told me that he could not give me a refund and that I'd have to come back and speak to the owner. Turns out the owner is his son and if you haven't yet guessed, his son refused to give me a refund as well. Just so you're aware, we are talking about $297 - maybe not so much for a business owner but enough for a customer who now has useless glasses. Well you would not believe the fight that ensued with the owner, who acted more like a spoiled child than a business owner, on a busy Saturday morning. I simply asked for a refund and when he said "no" I told him that I will be forced to take him to small claims court if he would not comply. He continued to refuse, stating that their policy was no refund for "custom made" glasses. My response was "all glasses are custom made, but they should be made so that the customer can see!" We went back and forth, over and over and for the life of me I cannot understand why he was so stubborn and chose to not only cause such a scene but leave me (the customer) so unsatisfied with his store. Anyone else would have tried to smooth it over and at the very least, apologized to me for the inconvenience to my son for not having glasses for almost two months. It ended with the owner, Ross DeVore, grabbing, yes I said grabbing my son's glasses out of my hands and aggressively pushing the lenses out of them and yelling loudly, "give her the refund!" Luckily he didn't break the frame in his haste. As I said, between the staff who couldn't get our phone number right after being told 3x's and the doctor who was basically guessing as to why they weren't coming out right (at one point he suggested bifocals for a 21 year old) I had had enough. Dealing with the owner was an experience unlike anything I've ever had before. Not only was he extremely unprofessional but he acted like a child. I wouldn't recommend the Commack or Riverhead (they just opened up) store to anyone, EVER. read more

Doctor took special care to my issues with contacts and then prescribed the right ones. In all fairness he was the old doctor that used to work there and was filling in. So the regular doc I'm not so sure, no experience with him. The staff, some are great, others like to gossip instead of taking care of customers. Seems some things are more important them customers...like talking about so BS party or crap like that. The one guy on the staff was great, personable and give the right attention. I have had a few pairs of glasses made up for me in the past at this location. However, this time,for some reason, the glasses were not right. I tried to get used to them but it just didn't work. After reading some reviews I was a bit nervous having to go back to say I can't use the glasses. Well, I have to say that they couldn't have been nicer. They redid them for me and they still weren't right. So I had to go back again. And again everyone was so helpful and accommodating that I felt compelled to write this review. They had me pick a new frame and they again made up new glasses for me. I finally have glasses that work for me and I just wanted to write this review to counter the horrendous one that was written about a similar experience. I'm going to simply start off by saying that i will NEVER come here again. I have never met such a rude and bitter doctor in my entire life. And not only was he rude to me, but to his staff as well. I caught the girl behind the front desk on her phone a few times and whenever I asked a question that I genuinely did not know the answer to, she'd give me an attitude. Unfortunately, I don't remember her name.. Angela something like that. Next, let's discuss their OUTRAGEOUS prices. They are charging triple what other stores charge for the SAME exact frame. I understand they're a business and making a profit is the goal, however I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the prices, which did not include the $100 for an eye exam and the lenses. After spending hundreds of dollars they can't even throw in a complimentary spray bottle to clean your glasses.. nope $3 like are you serious??? people are spending $500+ on a frame that should really be no more than $100-200 and you're going to nickel and dime them ???? And if you want contacts then I strongly suggest you go somewhere else because they are going to charge you for every tiny little thing. You will get charged one of two prices for the exam depending on what kind of contacts you need, then you'll get charged for the fitting, THEN you need to pay to be taught to put them in (I've been to 3 different places all of their teachings were free), THEN you need to order your actual contacts. I read the reviews prior to going there, but it's close to my home and I figured it can't be that bad.. nope.. it was worse than bad. I'd rather stay blind than give those people as little as a penny. Be smart go to Visionworks, where I was treated with so much kindness and respect and I got a beautiful REASONABLY priced frame. Or maybe even Costco. Just not here. If this review can help someone save money and avoid that horrible rude doctor and staff, then I'll be happy. read more

Was ok getting glasses dr was nice when I met him but Never going back. Went there for eye glasses with a script from my previous eye dr. Had my glasses prescription refracted a tiny bit Cause I felt my other pair was too strong And they billed my insurance company saying I had full eye exam, glasses prescription and contact prescription. No contact prescription was ever given to me because I never had an eye exam there. I called to speak to the office and the girl at the front answered the phone laughing. So unprofessional.
