The main road is mostly paved, but vehicles are prohibited on the road. There are several trails on the site, but the problem is that the trails are not clearly marked. A few red/white/blue/yellow marks on the poles along the trail, but it was not easy for people who never camp at this site to follow the trail. We had problem finding my way, but some experienced scouts helped us. We set up camp fire at our camp site and it was so much fun. Each camp site was clearly marked and there was a bathroom nearby the camp site. Overall this camp site is good, we look for ward coming back on another day.

This park is supposedly renowned for its biking trails. That may be, but we were there for camping…read more It's a small county park that charges admission unless you have a green key. There's a large, open area with at least 3 restroom facilities that I could see and a shower. This open area is ringed by woods and inside the woods, kind of well-concealed, there are several numbered drive-in camping areas, suitable for about 30 people. The private camping areas are nice and flat, and there is open access to the woods behind. There is also a playground and several open fields to play kickball or other sports and a picnic pavilion with bbq setups. Cons: loads and loads of ticks. I mean, you need to prepare for ticks if you're going camping in the woods but the amount of ticks we encountered here was crazy. And they allow dogs! They really need to spray here, one kid in our group had 15 ticks on him and his sister had 13. Good news is there were no mosquitoes and very few ants and spiders. There are no outlets for electricity at the campsite nor individual water pumps/spigots, as there are at many other camping areas. Bring your remote charging blocks and be prepared to haul buckets from the bathrooms to your campsite. Also the bathrooms needed attention when we got there, however by day two they had cleaned them up. And even though it seems remote there, we heard neighbors (not inside the park) setting off firecrackers as well as a local fire department siren. Overall would probably return as it's a nice spot to let the kids play or hike. But they've got to do something about the ticks!!

And yeah, that marsh grass just sucked up all the excess water like magic. What marsh grass? Well, the marsh grass that's under all that water. Three million dollars' worth of rocks and marsh grass. Unbelievable. Next time they want to blow three million, they should just give it to me. The flooding situation still won't be fixed, and they'll still be out three million, but at least I'll put it to good use.

Formerly Home to Mascot Inn.(1903), One of Patchogue's most Beautiful palacial Hotel Resorts. 100+ years ago. Patchogue, Long Island was a "Vacation Destination" for thousands of City weary folks. Many would arrive by train in the thousands in the summer, living the summer in luxury in the dozen or so huge hotels and resorts that dotted Patchogue waterscape. Leo's was one of the many Resort Hotels in the area at the time. In the 1900s, Mascot Dock was the Main Port and terminal for ocean-going ships barges and other vessels. You camp in the middle of sunken martime forest with the ocean on the other side of a sand berm - so you go to sleep listening to the waves and with no city lights and a million stars in the sky. A wooden elevated pathway leads through the forest and after the sun went down there were hundreds of fireflies above our heads. Magical. And there's a cool general store and tiki bar just a short walk away, nice rangers and I met some cool people. But here's why I won't go again and I couldn't recommend it to anyone else - the mosquitos were insane. I had read the reviews and had 4 heavy duty citronella candles triangulated around our campground, a huge fire, mosquito coils and we were coated in deet insect repellent. Usually I can live with mosquitos, but this was like wave after wave of them and even worse were the big biting flies which were incredibly painful. It was impossible to ever really relax or enjoy the beautiful surroundings. My kids were traumatized. I ran into a guy who had been camped out in a bog in Viet Nam for months and he said he'd never seen bugs that bad. Another couple had camped there a few times and said it usually is much worse. Would recommend this for a day trip to the beach but overnight camping is a no-go.

Watch Hill Beach, Long Island, specifically. It's a national seashore, so it's clean and nice. It's not crowded like other nearby beaches. It attracts an ecletic mix of city people and local folks. It has a boat basin where people tie-up and hang out. And most greatly, you get there by taking a boat across Fire Island Sound (an enjoyable 15 minute ride that transports you from suburban Long Island to watery paradise). There's a little snack and drink stand and a more formal sit-down restaurant, too, right near the beach. Near the ferry boat landing there are restaurants where you can buy lobster salad sandwiches and put together picnic lunches. You can buy an excursion ticket that gets you train fare and ferry boat tickets all in one. I've made the trip out here going back several summers, with friends. Swimming, sunning, walking -- This is one of the nicest beaches I've been to. They sell some incidentals at the shop, but didn't try to upsell. We were instructed to pick up the life jacket, but they brought the paddleboard over to the dock across the street. There was no demonstration, but it was easy enough to figure out that I started backwards on my board and the family was nice enough not to say anything about it (lol). We did a very short ride, an hour out in the water. The paddleboard and the paddle seemed well-maintained (not that I am an expert). The course they suggested was perfect as it gave us some time in the water. Because it was the height of the day, it was not very crowded out in the water, though I could see larger groups starting their rides by the time we came back to shore. It was a surprisingly pleasant experienced and I love that it's a family business. I would visit the Peconic Paddler again.

They helped us decide what would work best for our group. They gave us all life preservers and had us in the water and going within 5 min of arrival. Easy Peezy. You can go as long as you want or just do a quick float about. We did about a 2 mile trip, (took about 3 hours)we arrived at a small waterfall and the kids got to get out and play about a little. They loved it, don't forget your water shoes and your bathing suit. You cant really swim but you will get somewhat wet. Pack a lunch or go to the end where there is a spot to get out and grab and taco or some ice cream. Maybe both. The trip back went a little faster as you are going back with the current. If you are always wondering what to do with the kids ( of any age ) I highly recommend you try this place.

I have been horseback riding in this park for decades. I've done trail maintenance and helped find…read morelost souls. It would be nice to see more markers on the horse trails. It's a lovely place to ride with varied terain. One could ride all day if so desired. There are some steep up and down trails and some with rocks so be sure your horse is in condition and has shoes or hoof boots. There are easier rides there too if you know where to go. They have installed a mounting ramp for riders, and there is plenty of room for parking with horse trailers. Careful on the drive in as there are deep potholes.

This was the second hiking trail I found in Farmingivlle. This is a trail that you can hike on but I think it's meant more for mountain biking. I didn't have a whole day to complete the ten miles on the whole trail by hiking, I ended up doing about two miles before I found my way back. This trail was beautiful, but I generally give most trails about 5 stars. I love to get lost in the woods and just forget I'm on Long Island and this trail definitely helped me do that. From a hiking perspective I'd say try to get here as early as possible before mountain bikers start coming to use it. When I was on it I didn't see any mountain bikers.

I met the trail master Carey( hope I didn't butcher his name) during my ride and a few other bikers. He led us up the black diamond trail 1000 ft elevation! Unfortunately I couldn't keep up but I plan to conquer it! Back to the blue trail for me and whew! My bow flex stations bike has nothing on Glacier! No pics cause I was to exhausted to worry about a phone! Lol next time. Carey also does gatherings with bbq's and Rockefeller oysters in the parking lot and night rides there. It's well lit at night. I'll definitely be back there more often. The mountain bike community is just a great community of people who always look out for each other.
