This might be the scummiest company I've ever dealt with, on par with those collection agencies that just randomly call you and claim you owe money but don't know your name. We had a hearing test for our one-day-old child that was mandated by the state and supposed to be free, but we somehow got billed for it. The doctor pointed me to Pediatrix, and I called them to find out the details of the situation. They refused to admit they made a mistake but they said I could appeal it and they would call me back. About 6 weeks later, I got some hostile letter from them because the bill was unpaid. I called them, they never apologized for not following up. I spoke to one of the most vile people I've encountered in my life and she blamed everything on me and said it was impossible for the bill to be reversed and such a thing had never happened at Pediatrix. It was December 14 and I tried to appeal to Christmas spirit and it went nowhere. I'm sure if you work there, you must be an awful person whose family hates you, so no surprise. Anyways, I called the insurance company (which I should have done in the first place) and they forced Pediatrix to write off the bill. Could have been resolved in two minutes if Pediatrix cared about the law, but instead they wasted my time and then insulted me. read more

One of the doctor of this group - Dr. Bokelman saw my new born baby at Texas Health Harris Methodist HEB. Received a surprise bill. "Pediatrix Medical Group" was out of network. For two visits Pediatrix billed outrageously even after my insurance paid twice. "Pediatrix Medical Group" representative states( when I called) they do not offer any incentives for paying or assistance in paying except for instalments. They threaten to send to the collection if not paid within 45 days. This Doctor, her group Pediatrix and Texas Health Harris Methodist appear to unified to torture patients and their families for MONEY. Please Stay Away if you can. read more

The doctor performs surgery with a very old technique, he does not even use dissolvable stitches and claimed that if I use it, there will be a scar!! The best doctors all over the world do not even bother with removing stitches anymore. I would not be exaggerating if I say that their employees are the worst, most incompetent and useless team I have ever seen in my life. I called them 9 times for a scan order and to send the order and fax. I called the hospital 9 times to make sure they got it. I canceled everything because they said they didn't receive it last time. It would be crazy to trust them and think about having surgery. While the team of other doctors was coordinating all this for you, they made me spend a week on the phone until they canceled it. It's been 15 months since I had my baby, and I'm still waiting for a refund of $292 that I overpaid. 'the case is still under review' has always been the feedback. Anytime I call, they also involve the insurance in the conversation when they know the insurance cleared their part well. 'The case is still with Aetna', even after being in a 3-way call with this group, Aetna, and myself. Their service is a complete disaster, and I can never recommend this company to anyone. If you're reading this page, it's probably because you recently had a child and were hit with a surprise bill from the Pediatrix group several months after your child was born. And now you're frantically Googling Pediatrix to see who they are and if they're even legit. I did the same thing. One bit of good news: -Yes, Pediatrix is a legitimate company. They are a "physician's staffing" group, meaning a doctor who treated your child at the hospital may be paid through this group. Now, the bad news: -They are a predatory medical billing group. Do not pay the charges they send you until first checking with your insurance company. It's more than likely they are attempting to overbill you. -The bill will say "Due Upon Receipt". What they really mean is that the bill is due 90 days from the day it was issued. You will not get any reminders. If you do not pay the bill within 90 days, it will go to collections and your credit will take a hit. -They have an abysmal record with the Better Business Bureau. Please feel free to file a claim with the BBB so they can continue tracking this company's scam-like behavior. To protect yourself: -You can ask the hospital where you will be delivering how they assess physician's fees ahead of time. They may be able to provide you some price transparency before you deliver so you can better prepare. -Know that you can decline services at the hospital. -Always check with your insurance what services they cover and at what rate. If you call Pediatrix, they will not be able to help you and will attempt to charge you more than what you should pay. Scam artist. Got a bill 15 months after my son was born for 99238 hospital discharge day (IE hearing test) & 99464 Attendance at delivery. Both charges list providers i never heard of. I budgeted for the baby a full year before he was born. i was not expecting a bill as his first birthday gift. (they billed insurance $1,189. and claim i owe $407.46) for a hearing test and what is an attendance fee? did the person just stand there and do nothing? the person listed on the bill is not the Dr. who delivered him. I called insurance to check if this is legit and i asked them wondering why i would be getting bills if i already satisfied my "maximum out of pocket" it turns out that co pays, etc. are not counted towards the max and they say this is allowed and technically anyone can submit a bill for 2022 since i did not satisfy my max which will result in endless bills. Pretty much any person at the hospital can send in bills not sure why they can bill this long after the baby was born. I paid the bill fully expecting new bills to come in a year for other charges. in summation, give birth, make sure baby is breathing and self checkout as fast as you can get medical clearance. read more

This company is the worst! I don't know why our hospital uses them but they just show up after your child is born and a hearing test. You give them all your insurance information on the spot because they are a 3rd party and do not work with the hospital billing department. Well several months down the line, you get a bill from them for their services without them ever attempting to bill your insurance. You then have to call them and submit your insurance information again and are told that they will submit it to insurance. Well several more months go by and they yet again send another bill. This time when I call, they tell me that they haven't even submitted the claim to insurance because they have a system where they can check the effective date of your insurance and it begins on the 1st day of the following month. How does that even make sense? What insurance would begin 2 weeks after birth? Effective date is the DOB... So they have done this twice now with both our kids and as others have said before me, their billing department is atrocious.. I'm telling you, if they come in your room to test your child's hearing, SEND THEM AWAY! I would rather use another facility then getting involved with these lunatics. STAY AWAY! read more

This one line item is more than ANY OTHER line item including attendance at my daughter's birth (a real service). I have asked for written details of the service(s) included in "Hospital Discharge Day" and have been told by numerous reps and supervisors that the burden is on ME to find out what those services are. Like every company, there's always some good employees, but our overall experience was average at best. First off, our baby had jaundice so we knew the routine with having them in the NICU for a few days... However, we would keep asking when she could come home and on a Friday they told us we have to wait for a doctor tomorrow. Keep in mind, every day your child spends in there is going to cost a lot of money. It's almost like they want to keep your child there because they literally had 1 other baby there. Also, preferential treatment to other parents. I saw a couple not wearing gowns n so I followed n did the same thing. They immediately told me I have to go back outside and put on my gowns. I told them, well why aren't they wearing any? A long stuttering pause and they said " oh they probably just forgot ". Maybe because we're asian and they were not but I found that extremely rude and slightly racist!!! Then I saw them go outside n put the gowns on... I will probably pay for the 3 days and leave the remaining 2 days on the balance and they can come try and collect the rest. It was shitty experience when all we wanted was our daughter to come home. There was no trigger that allowed her to leave, only the fact that the doctor wasn't coming in until a Saturday! They have a D rating on BBB and they are not accredited at all. read more

Received a surprise bill for baby's hearing test. We went to an in-network hospital, arranged to have all medical providers be in-network. Then we learn that the hearing test was done by this scam out-of-network company that pretty much exists only to rack up big bills on stuff that should be 100% covered if it's in-network. Horrible company, everything that's wrong with American healthcare. It went well with the doctor as he has no fault in this. They never told us the cost up front and we had been there before as a cash patient for the same procedure and the second (and definitely the last) time we paid $271 and thought that was it. The billing department hit us with later on with a $849.25 that was owed. Long story short it was absolutely ridiculous and way over the fee schedule for this procedure. The total cost was around $1121 for that simple procedure that normally would charge $75 in other better places. They changed the office from doctor owned to company owned and all they care about is the $. I am a doctor and would never do this to any of my patients. After the birth of my kid, I had paid all of my hospital bills, and then 6 month later I got a bill from this group with no details information except for the total amount owed to what I don't know. Prior to my hospital stay I make sure My hospital is in network. For some reason there is one or two doctor who came check up on me aren't. This is too shady ! When I gave birth there are ten people in the room with me, how do I know who was covered under my insurance? Didn't I check with the hospital? I feel like they shake hands together to scam me. 1 Star because I cannot give zero stars. I was sent a bill nearly 6 months after my son was born. A claim was never sent to my insurance provider. After a lot of back and forth, it was submitted to my provider. Pediatrix said they didn't receive the Explanation of Benefits. I send it to them in November of 2021. I asked when I would receive an updated statement and was told that answer could not be provided. I just received a call from pediatrix asking for payment for the original, full amount. Some note about my provider not processing it at the correct percentage. I call the provider that has not covered me or my dependent since 2020 and asked if they would call Pediatrix with me. They would not, but that's a different review. Pediatrix is a sham. Make sure you pick your pediatrician prior to giving birth and don't give this "group" any of your business or money. read more

Repeatedly sent me bills for charges already covered by my insurance, and constantly states that my insurance company is being difficult, when it's actually Mednax who is not billing correctly. This group will try to run you in circles to get you to cave and pay. The only reason I'm surviving this is due to my company's HR department. Furthermore their customer service is awful and will not return my calls, but keeps sending me bills. Calling their help line will send you in circles and you'll never get a straight answer. Your best bet is to get a hold of someone from their appeals department, and keep on them! Otherwise they'll go silent for months, then pop up and bill you again claiming that your insurance company failed to properly process the claim. Here's another one for a surprise out-of-network bill from a maternity ward in a Pennsylvania hospital where Pediatrix was providing routine pediatric service to my newborn. I preregistered with the hospital and thought I was all good with in network coverage but was later told it was my fault that I didn't drill down into every service provider in the ward ahead of time to check for in network coverage with my good employer sponsored plan. They were aggressive in trying to get me to sign over my rights for them to argue with the insurance carrier, which included some statements that I agree to be billed for the balance. People in Pennsylvania, wake up, support Pennsylvania bill HB 1862 which has been introduced to address this surprise billing practice. read more

I called them to set up my daughter's endocrinologist appt BUT the agent never answered the requested price before set up the visit. I went for this office visit, no procedure at all, and then 2 months later I got a letter from Pediatrix Medical Group which charged me $1,139.00 for a regular visit!!! This is a rip off! I paid the same amount for a specialist in ER a year ago. How this is possible??? They don't say the up front cost because they overcharge it. This lack of information is the way they can steal you. Beware and stay away from this company. Same thing happens with their service for newborn hearing screen. This company saw my daughter after she was born. They never sent a bill but sent something to collections. When I called to ask what the deal was I heard several different stories about how at first they sent text message bills and then how they sent actual paper bills. I checked with our insurance company prior to the birth of our son that everything was going to be "in-network" and were told what to expect in regards to billing. Hospital bill, anesthesiologist etc. What our insurance company failed to tell us was that the Drs visiting our son each day while he was in NICU were a "third party contractor", Pediatrix Medical Group hired by the insurance company. PMG charged the insurance company over $22,000 for 18 Dr visits in 18 days. ($1,222 avg per visit. The initial visit on day of birth was $3,009). Our portion came to $4,490. I don't know how long the first 3 visits were as the Dr never contacted us but 15 of the 18 visits by the Drs were only 3 to 5 minutes to check heartbeat. In comparison, the hospital charged the insurance company $88,000+ for an 18 day stay in NICU. Our portion was $2,341. The hospital offered us a discount so we only paid $1,003. (I didn't even have to ask for the discount.) PMG wants all their $4,490 and won't discuss discount or financial aid. Grossly overcharging for medical services.... I had my daughter on 12/31/12. The next day, before we were allowed to be discharged, a hearing test had to be done on the baby. We agreed, and allowed the nurse to conduct the test. What a freaking nightmare dealing with this company has been since then. My contact with this company started on 1/17/13, and I spoke to an Iris at 1pm. We gave her my insurance information.... why this wasn't done at the hospital is beyond me. Thinking that it was taken care of, I was not worried. On 3/1 a "Darrin" calls me. Darrin says that there was NEVER any record of me speaking to the employee named "Iris". I was told to resubmit to my insurance. I called my insurance THAT DAY, and my insurance representative told me that Pediatrix did NOT bill them for the hearing test. My insurance tells me to protect myself, and submit an itemized bill for myself. I am called by Pediatrix, once again on 3/9. This time, I speak to two different ladies, "Angela" and "Laurie". I asked Laurie for an itemized bill that I could submit myself, and her answer was that she would "try", and that she would also "try" to resubmit to my insurance. Pediatrix employees told me that my insurance gave them denial over the phone. HOWEVER, I never received denial from my insurance. EVER. Why would my insurance tell a strange company my benefits, when they won't tell me...... Sounds fishy!!!!!!! I once again called my insurance, and they checked for a claim. ONCE AGAIN, there is no claim from them. I AM CALLED AGAIN on 3/30 by pediatrix. Telling me that I owe almost $300 because my insurance told them "over the phone" that coverage was denied. That's odd, because the $20,000 hospital bill has been 100% covered. I have not paid a penny, and you're telling me that now my insurance has decided not to pay? My insurance had a paper trail for EVERYTHING that has been conducted on my daughter, except from Pediatrix.... Might I also add, that I never got the itemized bill that I requested on 3/9. I sent a certified letter letting Pediatrix know that I felt scammed, and harassed. I also let them know that I would not be paying the bill until my insurance notified ME that coverage is denied. I once again, asked for an itemized bill to try and submit to my insurance myself. 4/4/13 I get a letter from Pediatrix. Letting me know that they have received my "dispute" letter. Some are hard to understand, some lie to you, and you can never get a manager during your call. They have to call you back! By the way, be careful when you do request a manager - I've been transferred to another representative or told that I need to submit a letter. Shady practices folks! By they way, they give discounts to people that don't have insurance to ensure quicker payment. Unfortunately, if you do have insurance, you pay more! I have experienced the same issues as the people below: -Calls from multiple people vaguely mentioning company name, but unable to tell me what service I am being billed for, asking for my insurance information weeks after having a baby with the incorrect day of service and only knowing my son's gender and last name. First call didn't know what service, second call said circumcision, third letter said hearing test. -Three different letters/bills from same company name but different addresses, formats, and letter heads. -My insurance had no claims placed by them and could not match their name to any service my son could have gotten. -I called the hospital where my son was born, and they said that they did not see that company on their vendor/provider list. I think this "company" is trying to scam overtired and disillusioned parents out of money. Beware! My insurance company recommended that we should not pay them. All bills should go through the insurance companies. I almost got desperate enough to pay the most recent "bill" because this one actually looks like a bill, has a returnable envelope, and says there will be a $5 charge for each month that this bill goes unpaid.
