These tacos are the best on the WestSide of Chicago!!!! Peeples has been in business many, many, years, ever since I was a kid, I'm in my 40s now. They used to have a place on Pulaski and VanBuren before they moved the location to Chicago Ave and Austin. Their tacos are famous because they don't follow a traditional Mexican rule for making them, they're more like homemade ones that you'd add your own special touch to. What REALLY makes these tacos stand out is the sauce and the tortilla bread they use, combined with the cheese (yeah, you gotta get that cheese!!). It's all of this, with added touch of the cooking oil and the ground beef, all mixed together, that gives these tacos such a distinctly unique taste, like no other. If you love hot food, I recommend ordering the hot ones with cheese, they taste 10 times better than the mild ones, IMHO!! They really lay the long cut jalapeno peppers, carrots and onions on there, along with that FABULOUS sauce!! :) True, the service is a bit slow from time to time, but if you go early morning, afternoon, or late night, you'll avoid the wait time. Peeples truly does have the BEST tasting tacos you could ever try, this is honestly why they have been in business so long. You can call your order in, wait thirty minutes before you go and get it and the order still won't be ready once you get there! I love their Tacos but I hate the service! Sometimes they are rude, and you always have to wait forever for your food. However once you get your food you will be a Happy camper! But beware of the hot sauce they put on tacos, I think it's straight from Hell because it's so hot! I always go for the mild sauce! Good food, service sucks. read more

Tacos are a hit or miss sometimes they're great sometimes they're not.... What is consistent are their attitudes. They are very rude .... unwelcoming. ..and SLOW but overall Nasty Attitudes. So if you are expecting authentic Mexican tacos you are not in the right place, however if you want pretty good "soul tacos" you have come to the right place! I usually get about 3 tacos. Tacos come in mild, hot or mixed. I love hot food but their hot tacos are really hot so I get mixed. I get my tacos supreme which come with tomatoes, cheese and onions. 8/8/13 Just bought 5 tacos from this joint and was very disappointed!!The tacos stuck to the foil, they were greasy,the meat tasted like dog food, the cheese was non-existent, the lettuce was wilted. i was out west getting white girl wasted and after a few hours of going hard it was time to feed all the loud and liquor i consumed ;- ), my cousin suggested peeples its like a million other ghetto shops as i like to call them, no seating bullet proof glass full of colorful characters. unlike others have commented the wait was not long, we were "entertained" by some guys who wanted to warn us of the dangers of being fukd up out here by retelling a story of some very pretty ladies like us who wrapped their car around a pole and died. i had two deluxe chicken tacos w/out lettuce and they were sooo good. yes they were super greasy and falling apart but the chicken was seasoned perfectly and the veggies were a perfect compliment. next time im on the westside wasted i will keep this place in mind read more

The employees there are ghetto as hell, unprofessional, and don't know how to take orders because they gave me the wrong orders and refused to correct the orders. I requested for the manager today contact me and they never contacted me. I stopped in there and the manager is never there or never available! Bad, bad service! Never, ever visit this restaurant ever again. And the wait time is unacceptable! Waiting over 45 minutes for the wrong order only made the situation worse. DA GHETTO TACO BELL. When you go to Peeples Tacos...do not expect a Five Star restaurant. I grew up eating Peeples tacos as a shorty. They can be hit or miss as twice I got them when they were a miss. The customer service can be hit or miss as well...mostly miss. If you are looking for good Mexican tacos they are not the place to go to. If you want some good ghetto tacos they are the place. Some people say that "oh they are not Mexican" I don't think they are portraying to be. They may even appear to be greasy but that juice just makes them so juicy and not dry. When I lived about 25-30 minutes away from them...I have to admit we ate them every weekend. Now that I have moved further I get them about once a month. This is not a place for people who are dieting. I love when the extra seasoned meat falls into the aluminum foil and you can eat it alone. I would give them 5 stars but the bad customer service prevents me from doing so. They tried opening up a location in Maywood but it wasn't there for long...not a good location for business I guess. I am glad that they are further from me as I can control the cravings more. I wouldn't recommend going there after midnight alone...especially women, Overall I give them 4 stars. read more
